THIS MONTH WE WANTED TO LEARN MORE ABOUT RYAN’S PASSION FOR COMEDY, WHERE IT CAME FROM, WHAT KEEPS IT SO STRONG AND WHY HE FEELS SUCH AND AFFINITY FOR JONAH HILL.
it another shot. I started going by the moniker the “Asian Jonah Hill”, who is an actor that I look up to.
I even started rocking an Asian fro, which was a lot of upkeep
for my flat Asian hair. I ended up shooting some promo videos for a company. One of the videos got about 30K views within the first couple of days. I hope to build
off of that one day! The dream is still alive!
What type of comedy do you like to watch?
I love all sorts of comedy! Recently, I started getting heavily into the stand-up comedy scene. Before
I joined the travel team, I interned briefly for the owner of a company that produced comedy shows in Las Vegas. I learned as much as
could from him and the comedic talent on his roster by watching/ studying them perform. It made me realize how much of an art stand up comedy is. Comics put
in a lot of effort making sure their routine is spot on and crowd pleasing. Some of my favorite comedians are Dave Chappelle, John Mulaney, Daniel Tosh, Steve Byrne and Nick Swardson to name a few. As much as I would love
to try stand up, I am way more comfortable in front of a camera. It’s likely because I suffer from stage fright!
A few of my favorite comedic actors are Jonah Hill, Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey. Jonah Hill is on the top of my list because I feel like I relate to him the most. He is more my style by using sarcasm
and wit combined with slapstick and low-brow humour. Love watching his movies.
What do you love about it so much?
Comedy brings laughter and happiness to everyone. Just hearing the sound of people laughing their asses off brings
a smile to my face. I think that people need to stress less and laugh more. Comedy can definitely help with that! It’s a great way to escape reality when those stressful moments in life hit you. I’ve created tons of memories with my friends doing the filming we did when we were growing up. I just have so much fun doing it and that’s why I love it!
