Verve Monthly Magazine – Oct 2018 – Issue 13

QUESTION 9
If you were a sandwich what would you be and why?
QUESTION 8
What is your number 1 festival necessity?
a. People that are contageously fun
b. A hotel room nearby
c. A tent that I can stand up in
d. Comfortable shoes
e. Being a one-day event so I don’t have to camp
f. Anything that makes me want to dance
g. A shower h. Shades
i. Sunglasses j. A luxury tent
b.
d.
a. McDonald’s McRib Sandwich, because I’m always in high demand
but not always available and I’ve been known to cause severe indigestion.
Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel - fancy, satisfying and well rounded
c. Peanut butter and Jam - it’s a little bit of me
I would be the tuna sandwich on a wheat bun with avocado from the Dutch Goose in Menlo Park with a deviled egg because he’s not only my favorite sandwich but he also represents who I hope to be. He’s been consistently delicious and filling, and when I’ve had a hard day he’s cheered me up. You see, loyalty and trust are very important to me and I would call this tuna sandwich the most reliable and trustworthy sandwich I’ve ever eaten. I hope one day I can be just like him.
e. Cheese toastie - classic, child- friendly, making a comeback
One of those massive delicious ones with hundreds of filling that requires several people to hold me together.
Sausage and peppers, because it’s a NY classic.
Prosciutto & Mozzarella panini. Made in Italy found all over the world.
Anything thanksgiving inspired (e.g. turkey cranberry and brie) because it is my favorite holiday and I am all about the sweet and savory.
A chilli veggie burger - full of beans, nicer then I look and a hint of fire...

ORLANDO BAEZA
Creative Director
WELCOME TO ORLANDO
What attracted you to joining Verve?
The opportunity, the leadership, and the culture. I’ve already talked about what excited me about the opportunity. As I started talking to more and more members of the leadership team here, it became very apparent that the talent level is AAA and even more importantly, they were all great people who I’d be excited to work with and learn from along the way. And I love the culture that has been created here. So that was the cherry on top if you will.
What are you most looking forward to at Verve?
Connecting with the people here and building meaningful relationships while at the same time doing work that we’ll be proud of and talk about for years to come.
What are your passions outside
of work?
I’m a HUGE sports fan. And being from NYC originally, I am a Knicks, Yankees, and Giants fan. Separately from that I am a novice art collector, avid fashion trend watcher, and dog lover.
What exactly will your role involve?
Here at Verve, I will be overseeing all things Brand Marketing, Content, Social Media, Creative, and Design. Which is a long winded way of saying I’m here to help the team create a brand that matters in youth culture and is here
to stay.
What part of your job is the most exciting?
The idea that we can create a new youth culture brand with staying power. That is an exciting challenge to take on. And I’m here to use every bit of my experience to help the team build exactly that.
What were you doing before you came to Verve?
Well just before coming to Verve, I was VP of Marketing at BuzzFeed where I was managing multiple functions that spanned both B2B and B2C. Before there I have experiences working
on theatrical marketing campaigns
at Paramount Pictures, leading the marketing for Call of Duty and Guitar Hero at Activision, brand & product marketing at Adidas, and working on Kobe Bryant’s brand during my time on the marketing team at Nike. It’s been a fun ride.

LOCK-INS
OCTOBER 2018
GLOBAL
For November lock-in we had
to keep it as spooky as possible
and went with a Halloween Horror theme. Me, Katja, Mary and Liz we’re calling venues and asking how scary was the attraction, and was there anything they could do to make it scarier. My stretch goal was for someone to cry with fright- I don’t think we succeeded unfortunately but hope everyone had fun regardless! Allison Florek,
Global Head of Employee Engagement at Verve
LA
Absolutely loved the Haunted Hayride lock-in! Considering
we kind of dreaded the evening, everyone got out of the ride safe and sound! I was impressed by the production, decorations, horrifying costumes of the actors and the whole setup in general. Fav moment - angry and evil clowns trying to catch and get on our carriage, but luckily they didn't succeed.

October Lock-in
was scary good. Like it was frighteningly successful. Haha, sorry.
They put us in a cage and shut it behind
us. Then we got into a giant people-sized wagon with a stranger who pulled us through the woods where some very unsavory characters reside. Talkin clowns with chainsaws, satanic cults, zombie Beyonce backup dancers and the most flamboyant demon we have ever met. And we live in LA. We may or may have not sacrificed Ryan Bentley in order to escape the Haunted Woods but cannot confirm
or deny at this time.

"The spooky frights didn’t start when we got to the tombs... Callum dressed as Theresa May dancing on our party bus on the way to the tombs was certainly not a sight for the faint hearted.” Georgia Owen
LAS VEGAS
“There’s no bonding experience quite like being
scared out of your mind with the people around you! We took a party bus to Bonnie Screams Ghost Town and had a blast going through haunted houses and walking through the spooky path to the ranch! I love getting to hang out with coworkers I don’t get to work with on
a day to day basis and I’m so glad
we made it out of the ghost town alive!”
Alana Perez

“Considering we’re a company that works with music festivals and events, it’s probably no surprise to anyone that there are a lot of people within the organisation with a real passion for music, particularly electronic music (we  techno).
We’ve created a slack channel ‘song_selector_ society’ where anyone with a passion for DJing, music production or just a good night out with good music can come and talk about it and maybe even learn some stuff. It ranges from people who can produce or have played out quite a lot to a decent crowd, to those just igniting their love for it and learning the ropes (Georgia - she insisted I mentioned she was the mentee of the group).
The goal is to have a group of us who can go b2b2b2b all night long at the retreats, hopefully see you there”
