WE HAVE LIFT OFF!
THE NEWSLETTER TEAM:
ANNE BEDI

CAISIE DILKS
ELINA MEIMANE
Hey Gang!
Last week Pollen o cially launched and it was a massively exciting moment for Verve. The Pollen team have been working tirelessly for months to hit a hugely ambitious deadline - and hit it they did, and in what style! So so proud of everyone! Massive kudos in particular to Ashley, Ola, Harriet, Jade, Dan P, Erica, Rahul, Antony, Nick for absolutely smashing it out of the park - and also to Dan Almeida, Jason, George, Alex, Chrissy, and Caitlin for all of their support in making the launch such a massive success. If you see the team wandering around looking sleep deprived, o er them a hug and a lie down - they deserve both.
In other news some of the team went wild in di erent parts of Europe - catch up about why in this issue. Yes our coverage of the events seem somewhat tame, however believe me when
I say I have tried and failed to get the juicy photos... however as they say, what happens in Groningen gets put on Jan’s insta stories oh-so-brie y and then deleted and denied by everyone attending.
Aside from that you can also see what Nic is getting up to
in Vegas, hear from Kelly, get to know myself, Irene and
Jaimy better, experience Jan’s fashion over the years and understand what makes up an Alex. I particularly loved Anet’s passion points feature on the nal page - brace yourself guys, we have a star in our midsts...
Enjoy!

NEWCOMERS
Bo Eckhardt
Client Success Manager, Benelux
Which person dead or alive would you like to have dinner with and which restaurant?
Heath Ledger, just saw a documentary about his life and he was (tragically) such a creative and energetic person that he lived a 100-year live within 29 years. Still have so many questions for him after seeing that documentary. And I wouldn’t mind cooking from
him at home ;)
What is your favourite swear word?
Besides the standard Dutch swear words: ‘Coconut’, actually learned that one from an Uber driver in London.
Which profession other than your
own would you like to attempt?
De nitely a F1-driver. Obsessed with Formula 1 and would be awesome to be able to drive as fast as you can without getting a speeding ticket!
Mark Poehner
Senior Client Success Manager, Germany
Which person dead or alive would you like to have dinner with and which restaurant?
De nitely would have loved to meet Jimi Hendrix right at Woodstook ‘69 at some food stand. I’d also would love to meet James Het eld (Metallica) for a guitar chat somewhere at Battery street/San Fran’.
What is your favourite swear word?
Many of them. Most times I swear in English but this is pretty boring for you, so I’d like to teach you some good German swearing: VERDAMMTE AXT! (equals: God Damnit), OTTO (basically a German Name, but most recently used for people who seem to be not that bright), HACKFRESSE (don’t say that to you’re neighbour!)
Which profession other than your
own would you like to attempt?
Work on some remote quiet Southeast Asian island selling Fish or boat tours probably? So the exact opposite of what I’m going right now. But probably that would only last for a few weeks until I have to get back to big city and online Media etc.
Florent Cossarizza
VP of Growth
Which person dead or alive would you like to have dinner with and which restaurant?
A dinner with Fabrice Luchini in
the “Paradiso Perduto” in Venice.
I had many incredible nights there. This restaurant is the most beautiful mess I have ever seen.
What is your favourite swear word?
“Ghe Sboro” is one I pick up from
my years as a student in Venice.
My girlfriend used to use it as I was learning Italian, so I started using it too without really understanding what it meant. I ended up saying it out loud
in a supermarket and an old lady advised me to “change teacher or learn to “Shut the f#ck up”.
Which profession other than your
own would you like to attempt?
“Architect”. I started studying it when I was younger. I have always loved the idea of mixing the design & technical/ mechanical constraint of the reality, until I realized that, unfortunately,
I suck in design and only a small amount of architects work on the cool projects while most of the others recycle the same design that they sold to the entire neighbourhood.

Amanda Drugnick
Operations Director
Which person dead or alive would you like to have dinner with and which restaurant?
You’re always told to never meet your heroes because invariably you’ll nd yourself exceptionally disappointed. So taking that into consideration,
and not wanting to destabilise my daydreams where I end up marrying Tom Hardy, I’d most like to have dinner with Hitler just to try to understand how someone managed to have such an impact on world history. I can’t imagine I’d eat anything (I’ve got quite an appetite but meeting him would throw that o ) so a greasy spoon would su ce. If I’d opted for Tom I’d pick Chez Bruce in Wandsworth, or a restaurant with dark corners...
What is your favourite swear word?
Bugger. I say it all the time. And yes, I’m old-school.
Which profession other than your
own would you like to attempt?
An acrobat. I know a few of them and they’re awesome. We’ll ignore the fact that I can’t even do a cartwheel.
Antony Shaw
Product Designer
Which person dead or alive would you like to have dinner with and which restaurant?
Depends on the mood. For banter
I’d get a meal with Stone Cold Steve Austin at Eddie Huangs BaoHaus in NYC. Otherwise I’d catch up with Nina Simone at Le Petit Marcel in Paris.
What is your favourite swear word?
“F*** sake” In a strong brummie accent. (I’m from Birmingham).
Which profession other than your
own would you like to attempt?
It’s hard to imagine not being creative. If I wasn’t a designer I’d either be writing about the state of society or making movies about it - sharing people’s perspectives. Maybe I’d be that unknown dude in documentaries living life on the edge holding a hidden camera in a drug den haha!
Elliot Cross
Sourcing Manager for Pollen
Which person dead or alive would you like to have dinner with and which restaurant?
As a huge house music fan I have
to say I would choose the guys from Solardo. They are known in the music industry as a little crazy so I know they would have endless amounts
of hilarious stories from their days of touring and partying.
What is your favourite swear word?
I play football a lot and I tend to have a bit of a ‘potty mouth’ on the pitch but I have to say I use dickhead the most.
Which profession other than your
own would you like to attempt?
Both are quite predictable but has to be either a professional footballer or a DJ.

NEWCOMERS
Sascha Crombach
Senior Community Manager
Which person dead or alive would you like to have dinner with and which restaurant? Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter (RIP, legend). If you are man enough to throw yourself at snakes and crocodiles with a smile on your face as if Costco just started their winter sale, I’d pay for your meal too. Australians are the real deal. I’d take him to some vegan spot around the East.
What is your favourite
swear word?
“Fodes”. Portuguese people infected me with that word
and now I nd myself saying it whenever I do something stupid. I forgot what it means over a year ago, but it still comes out at random mess ups.
Which profession other than your own would you like
to attempt?
Archaeologist. Always sounded interesting to me, but I didn’t have the nerve to attempt studying any of that.
Salomé Lelu
French CM/Client Success Manager
Which person dead or alive would you like to have dinner with and which restaurant?
I would like to have a dinner with Marilyn Monroe to learn the truth about her death. She had everything going so well for her but then she allowed herself to be guided by men she loved. Interesting subject ! In a burger king, to see how she would eat a burger with class and glamour!
What is your favourite
swear word?
“Putain de merde” and I can even add “Ça fait putain de chier” when I am really, really UPSET. If you want me to teach you to swear in French, I am your man.
Which profession other than your own would you like
to attempt?
I am already attempting an extra profession as DJ, go and follow me https://www.instagram.com/ salomelelu ;) And when I will be done with that, maybe I’ll try to become a mermaid.
Leila Collins
Client Success Manager
Which person dead or alive would you like to have dinner with and which restaurant?
I would probably have dinner with hip hop artist Princess Nokia. She’s an opinionated rapper from East Harlem, who can swear on stage while diving head rst into the crowd, but also eloquently quote feminist literature. She seems both nerdy and rowdy, and I feel like
we would have some great chats. In terms of where, I would say my dream restaurant in London, Sketch (just Google image the place and you’ll get why).
What is your favourite
swear word?
Cunt, unconditionally and unapologetically (the Brits seem to use it a lot more frequently - and casually - than the Americans).
Which profession other than your own would you like
to attempt?
Probably one of my two favourite side gigs, photography and
DJing (P.S: here for the next Christmas party).
Florie Evan
PA to Callum
Which person d would you like t with and which Princess Diana in Greek Taverna.
What is your fav swear word? Cluster Fuck.

Which person dead or alive would you like to have dinner with and which restaurant? Daenerys Targaryen, a.k.a. Khaleesi. Would be great to put our heads together to strategise the takeover of Westeros. Which restaurant? Probably something casual in King’s Landing. #gameofthrones
What is your favourite
swear word?
The sweet combination of WTF and FFS. Back in my coding days, it was especially refreshing to nd these in the comments. A kind of memorial to the lost hours of engineers trying to debug issues that reproduced only in certain parts of the world. WTF indeed!
Which profession other than your own would you like

Zookeeper. To be clear, it’s because I love animals, rather than cages. Oh and minus some of
the cleaning.
Angela Varretto

Which person dead or alive would you like to have dinner with and which restaurant?
I’m watching ‘La Casa de Papel ’ (Spanish series) on Net ix, would be cool to meet the group of actors with pizzas and beers in a cool place. Would be nice to chat with them about the series to learn what happens at the end, because I can’t wait to see the nale! Haha!
If it was someone from the past I would like to meet Frida Kahlo, as she really inspires me as a strong South American woman and I love her style.
What is your favourite

Honestly I don’t swear much.. but I’m Argentinian and BOLUDO is
a Argentinian word, we say this probably a thousand times per day
Which profession other than your own would you like

Profession which would help with easy children adoptions in the world.

Pollen Launched this month - the team have worked incredibly hard to meet a hugely ambitious deadline. The early response from Pollen Members has been
fantastic and we’re already seeing cross-pollination (members representing multiple brands, which is the most important thing that we
need to prove).
We had our rst design sprint to nd a
solution for seating led by Liam & Viv - we tested the solution that came out on clients and ambassadors on Friday and the feedback was great!

the time has come...
WE HAVE LIFT OFF! Pollen has o cially launched and now Pollen members can start signing up to campaigns they’re interested in.
This is a massively important moment for Verve as building a marketplace that enables people to sell products to their friends and earn rewards for doing it has always been our ultimate vision. We’ve always believed that the marketplace is where we want to get to because it’s the truest representation of what we believe in, our understanding of advocacy and the way our customers want to use the products.
8 Verve Newsletter | Issue 5 | January 2018

Well done to the amazing team that has prepared us for the launch
- this is a huge, huge step towards realising our vision of enabling everyone to discover and buy products from experts in their network
Callum & Liam Negus-Fancey
What is Pollen?
Pollen is a marketplace that enables people to buy the experiences they love from people that they trust. Its ultimate role is to facilitate friendships & relationships between people.
For Pollen Clients
They want to access young people they haven’t been able to access before.
For Pollen Members
We know that people have more than one passion, and for every passion they have there are loads of brands that they like at di erent points of their life. Therefore we want to take them on a journey and give them access to di erent brands to experience at each stage around the passions that they have.
For Pollen Customers
It’s all about better buying experiences - they are buying from someone who really knows them, understands their interests and there is trust and accountability there. They get more information and context when they make a purchase and then they are getting after-care and someone to talk about the products after they make the purchase. This all means that they get a really high touch experience.

CAISIE DILKS
Personal Assistant
It’s always nice to be able to travel within your job and see some of the most beautiful places in the
world... this, however, is not one of those stories... This is the story of ‘Irene and Caisie do Groningen! (The Netherlands!)’
You’d be forgiven if you haven’t heard of Groningen, however it is the home of EuroSonic Festival, a four-day music festival and conference, which will
hold it’s 31st annual event in January 2018, attracting approximately 40,000 attendees. The rst three days of the festival (Eurosonic) feature artists from all over Europe, the last day of the festival (Noorderslag) features only Dutch artists.
The event is a great place to meet
new clients, existing clients and partners all in one place, which is
why the European Sales Team will be attending in January and working their wonderful magic. After the success of our ‘Evening of Champagne and Sushi’ during Amsterdam Dance Event, we wanted to host a similar event during EuroSonic and invite key clients and partners to attend.
Cut to Irene and I wondering around Groningen scouting for venues t for our soiree. Why must we go there
and visit, you ask? Check out the photo of a conference room we were intending to hire, and then see the next photo of what we actually saw when we got there! From chic conference room... to dingy bingo hall-looking room (Yep that’s the same room!)
Aside from our conference room hell and a few failed attempts, we did manage to nd a beautiful
venue to host our ‘’Winter Barbeque’’ during Eurosonic, which
will feature a re pit, some delicious food, champagne and
of course the witty charm and intellect of our Sales Team. They’ll be beating the doors down to attend this one!

EUROSONIC WASN’T THE ONLY EVENT GOING ON...
BIS (Biennales Internationales du Spectacle) has become “the” professional meeting of the world of performing arts and culture and takes place in Nantes in France. The event brings together all artistic sectors - music, dance, theatre, street arts - with no equivalent at
the international level.
Stephan went to BIS to represent Verve to the professionals of the entertainment industry in France and transform the prospects into future clients. We had the stand dedicated to Verve, and Dara and Salome helped Stephan with the prep and organisation during these 2 days.
As Salome said, “BIS loved Verve and the concept of word of mouth!”
Flycon! Ticketfly’s annual conference in
New Orleans. They were recently bought by Eventbrite so it was Ticketfly’s conference hosted by Eventbrite. There were a ton
of Ticketfly clients there to learn all about what Eventbrite has to offer, so we thought it would be a great opportunity to go and showcase our product and meet potential new clients.
Emily: “We had a stand, banners, and we were showing off our integration with Eventbrite. Oh and free red bull to hand out to keep everyone going. It was great to meet so many of the Eventbrite team in the US and Canada and they even put on an awesome parade and party for everyone through the streets of New Orleans. We stopped by Preservation Hall for some killer jazz too - a definite must for anyone who is visiting the city!”
Elina: “The Event was a ge success and allowed us to et important clients, and even

IRENE COGHLAN
travel. Working with partners and teams across Europe means I get to visit a lot of di erent cities and meet and work with people from various countries and cultures, which I absolutely love.
Favourite moment at Verve so far?
Sink the Pink at the HMS Bestival last year was stand-out. I think we managed to gather most of the Verve crew front of stage and it was back-to-back old skool bangers with about 50 drag queens dancing and hanging o the stage for hours - what more could you want :)
What do you do outside of work to nd balance?
Outside of work I do yoga or
go for a run outside to clear my head. I also travel whenever I get the chance, whether it’s a quick weekend break down to Cornwall for some sur ng or a longer trip to some far- ung destination where I can completely switch o .
IRENE COGHLAN
Partnerships Director
What is your role and what does that involve?
My role is Partnerships Director for Europe. I’m responsible for maximising the value of our European partnerships by building relationships with partners, educating them on Verve and ensuring they intro us to as many of their clients as possible. I also work closely with sales to support expansion into Europe, overseeing trade PR, B2B marketing and conferences and events.
What does a normal day look like for you (if there is one!)?
I’m not a morning person, but in
denial of the fact, so despite my best e orts to get up early and
do some exercise before work,
it never happens. I have a 50 minute commute to the o ce so
I check my emails en route and add any tasks to Todoist. We have 14 partner o ces across Europe so a lot of my day is spent chasing them for leads and meetings,
and connecting them with the right people at Verve to push a deal through or get clients live.
A normal day might also include travel & event planning, working on PR, partner comms or agency management. Depending on how late I get home, I try and go to a yoga class or the gym, cook dinner, indulge in a bit of rubbish TV, read and hit the hay after midnight.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
I love the diversity of my role as it combines business development with elements of marketing, relationship management and

HOW DOES THE WAY WE WORK WORK FOR YOU?
JAIMY KEARNEY
Sales Director Benelux
Where you work best?
I don’t really have a favourite place to work. I usually work at
the o ce on Mon, Wed, Fri since there’s less tra c on the road (part-timers being home). Tuesday and Thursday I work from home to save my commute. It also depends on what’s happening in my house. At the moment we’re renovating
face (yes, that’s an egg smashed into my face). Therefore I’m super happy we nally have our o ce in Amsterdam! Although Rick already complains that I type to loud (sorry!).
When do you work best?
When I get full responsibility and trust of what I’m doing. I’m the type of person that needs/wants her freedom to perform at my best. Working from home is very valuable to me. First I have zero excuses to workout (we have our own little gym in the garden) and I feel much better when I do. Second I can do pyjama/
no makeup/onesie day all day! Preferably in my xmas onesie (only
How do you work best?
I’m super (read over) organised. I have xed schedules per day. Mon/Wed/Fri are my meeting days. Tue and Thu, my o ce days, are divided in call blocks (10-12am & 14-17pm) and admin blocks (8-10am, 12am-14pm & 17pm-whatever is needed). That was the Groupon drill and as
a control freak I very much like structure and it works good for me. I always start early so I have a clear overview of what I’m gonna do that day and I perform much better early morning than late evening. I’d rather get up at 4am to get work done than to work late. I’m also super happy to work with Salesforce again. It helps a lot in structuring the day, for everything I do I create tasks so I won’t forget things. I prefer to be super busy than too relaxed as I easily get bored. Therefore targets and deadlines work really well for me!
I’D RATHER GET UP AT 4AM TO GET WORK DONE THAN TO WORK LATE.

ANNE BEDI
Communications Director
Where you work best?
I like to get a healthy balance
of working around other people and working in total solitude - too much of one or the other and I feel unbalanced. When I’m at the o ce my favourite place has always been the canteen - I love the high ceilings and the light. I also love the fact you get to see everyone
in the building at some point in
the day when they come in for a co ee. When I’m being reclusive
I work from either a cafe, my bedroom or a hotel room if
I’m abroad.
When do you work best?
I’m in Vegas at the moment so the jet lag means that my best hours are 5am - 3pm. I don’t ght jetlag
when I’m in the states as I like how easy it is to get up super early and have loads done by lunch time. When I’m in the UK I would love to be one of those people who can get up at 5am and seize the day but I really can’t, I’m much more of an evening worker. I don’t stick to any type of schedule - my week is led by the projects I’m working on, so if I’m chasing a deadline I’ll stay up super late and be reclusive, if I’m not then I’ll take it easier, nish earlier and do something like

How do you work best?
I like having the television on or radio four sometimes. I like working from bed too. I need snacks and drinks around me, and if we’re talking about absolute necessities
I also need an expensive notebook and a good pen because it makes me happy - preferably Moleskine although I have a copycat one
Whatsapping Harriet and Allison, or lling my Pinterest board of dogs or pigs I want to have.
I’ve also found I work best when slightly tipsy, so I try and make sure that I drink regularly for my jobs sake. :)

WELCOME TO KELLY
KELLY JOINED VERVE AS VP COMMUNITY - WE WANTED TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE ROLE AND THE WOMAN FILLING IT!
KELLY SNODGRASS
VP of Community Experience
What exactly does your role involve?
My role as VP Community sits closest to our “customer”...
in Verve’s case meaning the Ambassadors. They’re the ones that everyone works for Verve to enable, whether that be through building / developing the product, closing deals, managing client relationships, or supporting the
Ambassadors themselves! I see my job is made up of 3 parts (for today!): 1 - improving the current CM org operations (making them more e cient, more e ective, etc). 2 - working to ensure that
What part of your job is the most exciting?
There are so many parts really! My background is in industrial engineering and I still really get hyped about e ciency and

processes that scale (I know, dorky). I also love the concept of mastery and getting the opportunity to help the team achieve their professional (and maybe even personal!) goals over time.
16 Verve Newsletter | Issue 5 | January 2018

What were you doing before you came to Verve?
I’ve lived in California for the past 6 years (though originally from Chicago), and was lucky enough to drink the Silicon Valley koolaid, working at Uber, Snapchat, and Groupon at relatively early stages, though still at a stage much further along than where Verve is today (500-1000 employees). I worked in a variety of analytics, operational, product marketing and customer experience/support roles at both companies. Happy to share my experiences in more detail with anyone who’s curious!
What attracted you to joining Verve?
I fundamentally align with Verve’s mission of helping people take what has been an online world back o ine, through an industry focus of being in experiential events via the concept of word of mouth marketing! I feel very lucky to have found a company that aligns with my personal interests and beliefs so well.
What are you most looking forward to at Verve?
I’m excited about the level of “things” (for lack of a better word!) being introduced to clients and ambassadors over the coming months. I’m stoked to be able to use my relevant past experiences to help create an environment comprised of organized chaos as we go through a period of rapid change, rather than just chaos :)
What are your passions outside of work?
I have too many .... but if I’m allowed to ramble .... I’m really into staying active, speci cally circuit & spin classes (let me know if you’re a Psycle’r or do Ministry Does Fitness!) and also a yogi speci cally obsessed with Rocket Yoga (a certain type of class). I’m also a bit of a foodie, both loving to host dinner parties & go eat all the food I can’t cook (#1s are sushi, Thai & Vietnamese!). I’m also trying to get back into dancing, and will be hitting up Pineapple / Studio68. If anyone knows someone I
can tag along with that’d be amazing! And then lastly travel - I studied abroad in Sevilla and will 100% be needing to make it back there this year, among hopefully many other trips around the continent, with Scandinavia & Croatia topping my list.

When did you rst get into singing/writing music?
I began writing and singing when I was about 8 years old. I would get involved and perform for the choir at school, church, and community events. I started learning piano and guitar when I was about 11 and started taking dance classes then too. When I auditioned for
my school’s dance team, I was accepted and then also decided to join the band at school. The school’s band was a bit boring for me since it was very technical, and although I appreciate learning a lot from the band, I quit after a year, but continued to play music with friends and my twin brothers who are two of the most talented people I know.
What type of music do you do?
Even though I love listening to many di erent types and genres of music, I enjoy composing and playing rock music. Performing at rock shows is so energizing and thrilling for me, so it is de nitely my favourite genre of music! I’m so happy/thankful that I grew up around other rock music lovers and am now in a band in LA with 2 guys who are super passionate about music, speci cally rock.
EVERYONE WISHES THEY
COULD SING, DANCE, PLAY AN INSTRUMENT AND HAVE NO QUALMS ABOUT DOING THEM ALL IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE
- TURNS OUT ANET ACTUALLY DOES, SO WE SAT DOWN AND ASKED HER HOW IT ALL STARTED?
What do you love about it so much?
Music is something I’ve enjoyed since I was very young. My parents also grew up singing and composing (my dad was in rock bands throughout his youth) and seeing their passion when they played at home was so inspiring and soothing for me. Writing/ playing music is a cool and fun way to express yourself and can be done when you’re in any kind of mood, whether you’re happy, sad or angry. Since I studied professional writing in college,
I love the fact that when you’re writing poetry or songs, you can break all of the technical rules you learn at in school – this makes writing songs super fun for me.
Music has been an amazing
outlet for me to write, play guitar, and perform live. The connection that’s formed when collaborating with other musicians is incredibly powerful when you become so vulnerable expressing what you’re feeling or what you’re going through when writing and creating music. This can seem cliché to say but I honestly feel so lost if I’m not writing or playing every couple of days. I cannot see myself getting old without music; even if I’m not performing, I know I will continue to write, compose and play music till the end of my days.
