-Stroke Awareness-

Stroke is the second leading cause of death and the leading cause of disability. One in
every 4 people face the risk of having a stroke in their later life because of the habits they
practice through their lives. Therefore, identifying the warning signals of a stroke and
taking precautionary steps early as possible is important to take immediate action and to
prevent a stroke happen to ourselves and our loved ones.

Commemorating the world stroke day
which falls on 29th October 2020 Leos of
Polgasowita organized a webinar Stroke
Away in order to raise awareness among
communities on the importance of
detection of the warning signs of a stroke.
Our goal was to create a dialogue among
the youth as well as the elderly population
in our country about the detection of the
possibility of strokes and influence people
to follow a healthy lifestyle to minimize
such a risk in their lives.

Stroke Awareness Continued…
The webinar was held on 28th November 2020 via Google meet platform with the
participation of Consultant Neurologist and the President of the National Stroke Association
of Sri Lanka Dr Harsha Gunasekera as the guest speaker who enlightened the audience about
what is a stroke and what are the steps that can be taken by us to prevent a stroke happening.
He further was able to show a scenario on how we must respond to a situation of strokes in
order to take quick steps which can save the life of the patient.

Past Multiple District President of Leo Multiple 306 Sri Lanka, Lion Kesari Seneviratne
PMJF also accepted our request to join as a facilitator of the forum which indeed added color
to the session. She spoke of the importance of the youth to be informed and have the
knowledge of the warning signs of strokes for the benefit of themselves as well as their loved
ones as the younger generation also have a big role to play in three family units. The
discussion was conducted as dialogue about how we can make ourselves active in fulfilling
our day to day tasks. Further discussions were conducted about the steps taken by the
institutions such as universities and offices to make people active through their lifestyles and
Leo Lion Kesari Seneviratne provided her experience and novel ideas to create things which
makes people more active. The session was conducted by none other than our very own Leo
Disali who made it an interactive session.

The event was also live streamed through the
Facebook to reach a greater audience and we
were able to conduct a very fruitful session to the
participants. The webinar concluded with the
hope of continuing the Stroke awareness
campaign in the future to spread awareness of the
risk of strokes across the general public.

- Lights of Hope -

Almost all the people are stuck at their homes
due to the prevailing situation of the country.
People are so caught up with pandemic that they
have forgotten about Deepavali , the festival of
lights and is usually celebrated between mid-
October and mid-November. Polgasowita Leos
decided to initiate LIGHTS OF HOPE to remind
the people who died due to this pandemic and
using virtual platform we got people to light
candles of hope and add it to our official
Facebook page. Lights of Hope took place on
14th of November 2020 with the purpose of
retaining the HOPE that keeps us moving
forward alive even in these times of difficulty.

-Koththamalli Evening-

Koththamalli evening is a project that The project was arranged on 30th

Leos of Polgasowita organized MDHL on to help a poor family during this
pandemic who live in Kalubowila. We collected donations from Leos, and we
gave it to the family having the hope that it will help them to overcome some
of their difficulties or challenges during this pandemic. We believe seeing
with the eyes of another and feeling with the heart of another is something
we should train not just as Leos but as Humans.

-Stride to Justice-

-November-

An informative flyer series was conducted for the month of
November for project ‘STRIDE TO JUSTICE’ to achieve the
motive of providing knowledge and generating awareness to
individuals about the basic aspects of different fields of law
and justice.
Flyers on the meaning of cyber-crimes and major computer
crimes were discussed including crimes such as hacking,
cracking, unlawfully obtaining data, and usage of illegal
devices, punishments and liabilities involving each offence. It
was our belief that creating and communicating these types of
awareness flyers relating to Cyber-crimes under Computer
Crimes Act of Sri Lanka would have given a better
understanding about the justice system and basics of Law of
Sri Lanka.

General Meeting

- Month of November -

The Monthly General Meeting of Leo Club of Polgasowita for the month of
November was held as a virtual Joint General Meeting with Leo club of
Mattegoda on 29th of November 2020 from 11.00 a.m. onwards. This virtual
General meeting took place via Google meet with the presence of Chief Guest
Leo Navod Kiriwathtuduwa, District vice president of Leo district 306A2 for
the Leoistic year 2020/2021 , Guest of honour Leo Raseema Sugandi, District
Secretary of Leo district 306A2 for the Leoistic year 2020/2021 and the Special
Guest of the meeting Leo Tharini Subasinghe, Director District contest.
