~4th Installation Ceremony of Leo Club of Saegis
Campus~

The 4th Installation Ceremony of Leo Club of Saegis Campus was
successfully concluded on 29th August 2020 with the participation of
many leos and non-leos at Saegis Campus premises.

The Chief Guest of the morning was Immediate Past District
President of Leo District 306A2 Leo Mudith Jayasekara whilst the
Chief operating officer of Saegis Campus, Mr.T.M.P.G Tennakoon was
the Guest of Honour. Leo Lion Kesari Seneviratne PMJF, the Past
Multiple District President of Leo District 306, was the Special Guest
of this occasion..
Leo Thisuri Nisalya, Leo Mevan Yohantha, and Leo Omali Radhika
were inducted as the President, Secretary, and Treasurer
accordingly including the board of officials of 11. More than 30
prospects were inducted as members, giving new hope to the future
of the club.

We appreciate all the leos and non-Leos who attended our 4th
Installation Ceremony paying their valuable time for us. Your great
support encouraged us to work harder

Suicide Prevention Day

What is suicide? Taking one’s own life consciously which
is a desperate attempt to escape
unbearable suffering is the simplest
definition for what suicide does mean.
“Suicide” comes from Latin, which
means “to kill oneself” precisely.

A suicidal person can’t see any way of
finding relief except they see only
death. They only desire their pain to
stop nut they always wish that there
was an alternative to suicide unless
they see none.

According to researches, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death where there
is a higher percentage in men for suicide rather than women. When talking
about nowadays even children suicide themselves.
As the World Health Organization estimates that more or less than 1 million
people die each year from suicide, but the question is that what drives so many
people to take their own lives?

Reasons that cause suicide attempts?

Mental illness, alcoholism, or drug abuse
previous suicide attempts, family history of suicide, or history of
trauma or abuse
Terminal illness or chronic pain,

To help them?

Most of the people believe that suicide isn’t preventable. The main thing is
that we have to understand the signs and the symptoms. Some of the
behaviors of a person who are thinking about taking their own lives are
listed below.

Talking about wanting to die or wanting to kill themselves.
Using alcohol or drugs more often.
Withdrawing from family and friends.
If you find out some of the symptoms which are in the above list, you should
get help as soon as possible. Keeping them safe ,Ask them straight,

Being with them. Listening carefully and learning what they are thinking and
feeling and helping them to take medication and to take mental therapies
from a doctor are the ways that you can help them to survive from this major
crisis.

Leo Presidents & Council Officers Camp 2020

"Numero Uno" the annual leo 6
presidents and council officers
camp was successfully held in
Boarder Camping Site in Knuckles.
The President, Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer and the
Immediate Past Club President of
Leo cLub of Saegis Campus
represented the club.
The two days club was filled with
sessions for club officers and
adventurous activities. The
waterfall abseiling was one of the
most unforgettable among other
activities.
This camp helped the club officers
to tighten the bond between
other club officers and council
officers which is very important
when it comes to working
together with the district.
As for us, we hope it was an
unforgettable and splendid
memory for everyone who
participated for "Numero Uno"

"SHRAMA SAVIYA"

~A joint project with Leo Club of Piliyandala and
Leo Club of Kalubowila~

The best thing we can do to help elders is to
protect them and use our ability to do things to
help them with what we can and they can’t do.

Due to the heavy rain and storm that occurred
in the few days many people suffered and
Salena Alwis Elders Home is one of the Elders
homes who needed support from others to clean
the mess that happened to their garden
including their ‘bodhiya.’ We, Saegis Leos joined
hand in hand to clean the garden of Salena Alwis
Elders Home to make sure that the grandmas
and grandpas in there can safely worship their
‘bodhiya’ without any harm.

As young Leos, we hope we did what we could do
to help Elders with the ability of ours. Special
thanks go to the Leo Club of Piliyandala for
joining us to this worthy cause.

The Man behind
Sherlock Holmes

- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle-

Sherlock Holmes’s stories are very famous crime fiction
stories in the world .Arthur Conan Doyle is the writer of
Sherlock Holmes’s stories. He is very famous British
writer and Medical doctor.

This clever writer was born on 22 May 1859 at
Edinburgh in strict Irish-Catholic family. He studied at
Hodder Place, Stonyhurst, Stonyhurst College and
University of Edinburgh.. In 1885 Doyle married Louisa
Hawkins. After having two children she was died in
1906. After that Doyle married Jean Elizabeth Leckie

Doyle served as a volunteer doctor in the Langman Field Hospital at Bloemfontein
between March and June 1900, during the Second Boer War in South Africa. Later that
same year, he wrote a book on the war, The Great Boer War. He stood for Parliament
twice as a Liberal Unionist.

In his life he had a good sports career Doyle played football as a goalkeeper for
Portsmouth Association Football Club, he was a good crickterand he was an amateur
boxer, also a keen golfer and a billiard champion.

Doyle's first novels were “The Mystery of Cloomber”, He amassed a portfolio of short
stories, including "The Captain of the Pole-Star" and "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement",
and another popular story of “The Mystery of Mary Celeste”. In 1887 this writer created a
famous characterof Sherlock Holmes publishing the first story of “A study in scarlet” and
after that other stories about Sherlock Holmes. Between 1888 and 1906, Doyle wrote
seven historical novels.

Doyle was found clutching his chest in the hall of Windlesham Manor, his house in
Crowborough, East Sussex, on 7 July 1930. He died of a heart attack at the age of 71. As
like that a wonderfull person left the world

White Doves:
The symbol of peace

Doves belong to the Columbidae family, which is the family

of pigeons. They have around and a stout body, short neck,
and beak.
In the ancient period, Doves used to deliver messages because
of their excellence in navigation. Doves are extremely loyal
who build their nests in areas near human settlements.
In a way, this may have allowed people to witness the
immense love, care, and loyalty displayed by white doves.

In many religions, there are stories that associate white
doves with peace. Christianity and the Bible describe dove as
the symbol of the ‘Holy Spirit’, during the Baptism of Jesus
Christ.
Many artists have depicted the white dove as a symbol of
peace. The lithograph by Picasso -La Colombe- showing a dove
with an olive branch in its beak, was chosen as the emblem of
peace in 1949 for the World Peace Congress in Paris. After
this, the dove became very popular as a symbol of peace for
the modern world:

Note From The Editor

I am very proud to present
the 3rd edition of "Pulse of Leos" for the month
of September. It's my great pleasure to join with
Leo Club of Saegis Campus where I can learn
many things including teamwork. As I work with
my fellow members, I gained many experiences

that are important to my life.

"Pulse of Leos" is a place where Saegis Leos can
show not only their teamwork but their creativity
and writing skills too. This is only the 3rd edition

still but we were able to reveal the creativity of
many Saegis Leos. We are hoping to include

many articles of our very own Saegis Loes in the
upcoming editions too.

Finally, I invite you to look forward to the next
edition of "Pulse of Leos" and I hope the next
