Laurin & Klement (L&K) and Sportline. The new Superb gets LED lighting all
around, new bumper designs for the front and rear, a shiny new grille, and 17-
inch alloy wheels. The L&K gets a dual-tone interior with a beige and black
combination, while the Sportline makes do with just black. Under the hood is a
BS6-compliant, 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine that makes 190 hp (10 hp more than
the previous model) and a peak torque of 320

250 Nm. In terms of performance, Škoda claim that the Karoq can do 0 to 100 km/h in nine
seconds and then push on for a top speed of up to 202 km/h. These figures do not come at the

when it’s not there. although it does tighten the turning
circle, the Urus is no black cab. But the system pays out fat
g-force dividends through the twisties, where this
Lamborghini is surprisingly chuckable for a high-roofed
behemoth. It also brings almost unreal high-speed stability,
which bunkers more confidence than even pessimists could
ever use up. Powered by a 48-volt system, the active
stabilizers act like a magic carpet, keeping the body in
check irrespective of whatever momentary earthquake
might occur beneath it.
make no mistake, this is not a compliant crossover by
any stretch of the imagination. But the vertical cushioning
effect of the air suspension and the horizontal sedation
effort of the self-adjusting roll bars provide a unique level
of physical composure which takes the sting out of pressing
on regardless.
the gap between the two candidates widens further on
steering and brakes. the Levante’s steering is light in
normal and meaty in Corsa, yet it always feels oddly spring-
loaded irrespective of the settings. Its self-centring action is
annoyingly exaggerated, there’s a growing vagueness as you
apply more lock, and the soft-ish damping can be at odds
with Skyhook’s algorithms. all this doesn’t mitigate the car’s
tendency to understeer at the limit, which means less grip
despite more lock, a familiar formula for frustration.
there is little wrong with the absolute stopping power of
the modenese entrant, but the grabby pedal feel and the
extra effort it takes to bring the vehicle to a halt are an
acquired taste. In both departments, the Urus plays in a
league of its own. It has the sharper and more responsive
steering which delivers the right amount of feedback
irrespective of speed, input or undulations. the
Lamborghini’s carbon-ceramics are nicely progressive,
inexhaustible, and powerful.
Ultimately, the Urus fuses Italian charisma and german
engineering into one pace-setting whole that possesses all
the ingredients of which memorable drives are made.
although the maserati is impressive and enjoyable, the
Lamborghini shows how much better it could have been.

W ITH OVER TWO DECADES BEHIND IT, THE
Honda City is one of the longest-running car
badges in our market, with timely updates and fresh
models keeping it relevant in an ever-changing
landscape. Competitors have come and gone over
the years, the advent of crossover SUVs and sub-
four-metre sedans has eaten into C-segment sales,
but, through it all, the City endures, continuing to be one of the best-
selling sedans in our market.
For 2020, Honda have given us the fifth-generation City which builds
on the outgoing model’s strengths with an eye-catching design, class-
leading interior space, and excellent driving dynamics. The car is being
offered with either 1.5-litre petrol or 1.5-litre diesel powerplants, and I
recently spent a day with the top-end ZX variant of the petrol-powered
City, equipped with the optional CVT automatic.
The design of the new City is clearly an evolution of the fourth-
generation car, retaining the broad chrome strip running across the nose
and a familiar side profile. Headlights are now slimmer and get an array of
nine LEDs each for illumination, plus LED DRL strips above and slim
LED turn signals below. The bonnet seems to have muscled up, while the
darkened LED tail-lamps have also been redesigned and create a unique
light signature as they wrap around the corners of the rear at the same
level as the sharp shoulder-line.
The fifth-generation Honda City uses the same platform as the outgoing
car and shares the same 2,600-millimetre wheelbase, so we still get a
spacious passenger area. The thoroughly redesigned cabin features light-
coloured leather upholstery that contrasts well with the mostly black
dashboard, with a couple of faux wood inserts thrown in for good
measure. I quite like the simple, mature design of the interior, dominated
by horizontal lines, with an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment display

taking centre stage between two angular air vents. all the standard
connectivity options are available, while honda have also included an
app-based amazon alexa system for voice commands and remote
capabilities to lock or unlock the doors, start the engine or turn on the
climate control system. class-leading leg- and knee-room at the rear will
keep taller passengers happy and comfortable, while the well-shaped and
supportive seats are clearly a step up from the outgoing car. although i
found the clear-cut design of the interior quite appealing, there are a few
places under the dash that seem somewhat plasticky, and the central
infotainment display is angled slightly upwards, catching the sun during
the afternoon hours, rendering it unusable.
settling into the driver’s seat, the leather-wrapped steering wheel feels
nice to grip, and the steering-mounted controls feel sturdy and intuitive.

and while this is true of the physical speedometer on the right, the rest of the driver’s
instrumentation is actually a tFt screen that displays speed, fuel level, coolant
temperature, odometer, and the extremely real-looking tachometer on the left. the
tacho can be replaced with a number of options, including trip computer, fuel efficiency
and G force meter, while warning messages are also displayed in this area. Lane watch

T he hyundai Verna has been a strong contender in the c
segment since its launch back in 2006, consistently offering buyers an attractive
combination of stylish exteriors, well-appointed interiors, and powerful engines.
the car has evolved through facelifts and newer versions over the last 14 years,
going through the “transformed” and “fluidic” phases, finally leading to the
new-for-2020 hyundai Verna splashed across these pages. our test car is the
top-end sX(o) variant powered by hyundai’s 1.5-litre dohc petrol-powered
motor, mated to an eight-speed cVt.
as you can see, the new Verna is quite a looker, with strong lines flowing back from that massive grille
up front, over the sharp Led headlamps and on to the a-pillars. the design of the front air dam and
recesses for the fog-lamps give the face some character and, while the large grille melds well with the
design, i’m not a fan of its heavily textured, criss-cross chrome detailing, which is a little too gaudy for
my taste. the roof-line curves in an almost coupé-like fashion back towards the boot, where the diffuser
on the lid adds a sporty touch. angular Led tail-lamps wrap around the rear edges just below the
pronounced shoulder-line, and the dual-tone 16-inch
alloys look quite stylish.
the interior of the new Verna is a pleasing contrast of equipment levels and the new Verna is no different. occupants are pampered

ultimately, the Verna strikes a fine balance between peppy
acceleration at city speeds and relaxed high-speed cruising out on
the highway.
during our performance testing, the new Verna dispatched 60
km/h from a standstill in just over six seconds, while 100 km/h
came up in less than 13 seconds. While blazing acceleration and
exciting performance may not be what this car is all about, its forte
seems to be effortless cruising at triple-digit speeds on the
