1702 39 lonsdale street, [email protected] 3000 +61 451731769HARI PRABHU MThe responsibility of the architect today extends beyond form-making. Practice must respond to environmental limits, social equity, and the long life of materials. Design decisions influence energy use, resource extraction, and patterns of occupation; therefore restraint, adaptability, and repair are as important as invention. The architect could act as a mediator between client, community, and ecology, translating needs into spaces that remain useful over time. Buildings should accommodate change rather than resist it, and construction should minimise waste while enabling future reuse. In the present era, architecture is accountable not only to its users, but also to the conditions it leaves for those who come after.REFERENCEPROF. Infra.cultureSubject: Architecture Major projectLocation: RMIT UniversityProject: Academic thesisThe project proposes a new form of infrastructure that integrates cultural programs and recreation spaces to encourage social interaction and collective engagement. By supporting community-driven activities, Infra.Culture allows communities to share heritage, sustain cultural practices, and build a collective future. Ultimately, it transforms the urban edge into a framework for connection, continuity, and coexistence.

The urban void aftermath of the infrastructure Rowing communityArt communityDesign process Site plan Infra.Culture redefines infrastructure as a cultural connector rather than a purely utilitarian system. Located in Richmond along the Yarra River, the project acts as an inclusive civic platform that reconnects fragmented communities and cultural networks disrupted by urban development. The design combines social infrastructure with cultural space, where the ground plane supports art, learning, and performance, and the roof becomes a public gathering space overlooking the river.
