Ikko Tanaka's Abstract Visual Noh
Ikko Tanaka (田中一光; 1930 – 2002) was a Japanese grandmaster of graphic design. Vibrant and highly geometric, Tanaka unites stylistic elements of Japanese art and Western Modernism with abstract flair. In this article, we discuss how Tanaka's graphic design work intersects with his background in theatre design in works such as "Nihon Buyo" and "Ginza Saison Theatre", and how these influenced the Noh revival scene in post-war Japan.
