10 Little Rubber Ducks

Firefly Speech and Language
Dear Parents,
This week we’ve been reading Ten Little Rubber Ducks by Eric Carle.
This is a story of ten rubber ducks who are packed in a box and loaded
on a ship. On their way to “far away countries” there is a big storm and
one of the boxes falls off! Each rubber duck drifts in a different direction
and encounters a different sea animal along the way.
Attached you will find a short summary of the story designed to target
the use of sequence words (e.g., first, second), adjectives (little, rubber),
past tense (floated), and the tricky consonant blend /fl/.
You can help at home by reading the story with your child. You may try
pausing at the end of each sentence to give your child an opportunity to
fill in the ocean vocabulary. After a few times, maybe your child would
like to “read” it to you! Questions are also included at the end for discussion.
Have fun!
