Dear Collector

Our October sale heralds a new dawn for the company. We are extremely
happy to be in our new home, an expansive space in the heart of Claremont.
We hope that the visibility, accessibility and parking, as well as the vivid
environment, enhance your experience with us. To this end, I need to thank
Arnold, John, Philip, Anwar and the team at Ingenuity Property as well as
Daniel and Martin at DHK Architects for this marvellous space. It has been
purposely designed for us and curated to our clients benefit.

As this is the first sale in our new space, it seems fitting that we begin with
a truly remarkable collection of silver and plate. Clayton Holliday has been
a fixture in the South African museum community for many years, and his
generous collection of silver and plate has been lovingly composed over four
generations. From the moment the oak chests filled with silver arrived on our
shores alongside his grandmother back in the late 1800s, up to the present
day, the Clayton Holliday collection continues to reflect a lifetime of care
and refined curation. It is our hope that the successful bidders are enthused
custodians of each piece’s glorious heritage.

Cape furniture is well represented by a cabinet -on-stand, a bible desk, a
West Coast table and a rare bureau. Decorative arts items sure to generate
interest include a Versace dinner service, a large Esias Bosch lustre tile
and a wonderful Lalique chandelier. All of these unique items are a true
pleasure to offer at auction as they each boast a rare and unusual charm.

Our featured Sidney Kumalo bronze, his Large Seated Woman, is a
formidable work from the sixties and holds an elevated place within
our sale. Amongst our Fine Art items, Jean Welz’ s Poet shines
bright. The work has never been offered for sale. I well remember the
painting hanging in my grandparents’ home, both in Worcester and
Rondebosch, stoically observing our comings-and-goings since 1955.

We are awed by having come across a collection of forty etchings
by Francisco de Goya. Each print, with their dark and magnificent
symbols and visions, stand as a part of the very canon of all of art
history. Originally released in 1799 in Spain, the fascination inspired by
the collection is still as potent as it ever was.

We await your next visit at our proud new space,
See you in the new saleroom
