Brickwork Contractors to check the position of the previously
installed halfen channels and to then set out the brickwork clad-
ding system on the building. The angular design of the building
posed a challenge, with precision a prime requisite.
High Accuracy Survey Control and Instrumentation
Warner Surveys were responsible for checking the existing sur-
vey control network and adding additional control points where
required.
All four corners of every halfen channel had to be surveyed and
each point compared to design – in total 15,000 channels cover-
ing 60,000 surveyed points.

Paddington Station—Roof Span 4
Detailed 3D Laser Scan Survey
WS carried out a detailed survey of Span 4 of the roof at Padding-
ton Station. Span 4 was built in 1916 and has been in need of
repair for some years.
Structural Assessment
We were awarded the contract by WSP and Wentworth House
Consultants, to carry out a full 3D laser scan of the entire roof.
The laser scan aided greatly in the structural assessment and
engineering of the £25m restoration project.
Matt Young was responsible for carrying out the laser scan and
supervising a team of surveyors that dimensionally controlled
the location of each scan.
Leica ScanStation & TCRP1201+
Two Leica ScanStation’s were used to scan the 200m long roof
and a Leica TCRP1201+ total station was used to provide dimen-
sional control to the individual scans.
Scans were registered using CloudWorx Software and drawing
produced on AutoCAD

Tottenham Court Road LUL Station Upgrade
Bauer Tech / Keller Foundations JV
Bauer / Keller JV was awarded the contract for the foundation
and ground engineering works of the £250 million Tottenham
Court Road Station Upgrade.
WS were appointed for the setting out & collection of as built in-
formation on one of the most technically challenging Europe-
an piling project in recent years.
Construction Works Included:
• 440 m’s of hard / soft piled secant walls
• 150 m’s of Diaphragm Wall. 1m wide X 42 m’s deep
• 11 no 2.5 m dia Rotary piles inc Plunge columns.
• 7 no 2.5 m dia Complex Rotary Over Site Development
(OSD) piles.
This project drew on the skills & procedures developed over the
years while working on complex projects such as: One New
Change; 2012 Athletes Village; British Museum Great Court
Roof, etc.
Fabrication Shop Visits for QA/QC
Visits to the steel fabrication works were needed to carry out as
built surveys of critical elements, prior to these elements being
transported to site. As well as being a crucial QA/QC check these
works proved invaluable to planning and logistics.
Primary & Secondary Control Networks
WS were involved from the early stages with the checking of the
client issued Primary Control network and establishment of a
project wide Secondary Control network.
Specialist Constructed Heavy Duty Piles
WS continued to assist with the installation of the Plunge Col-
umns for the Crossrail ticket hall. The plunge columns were up
to 0.7m square and 33.5 m’s long. Too large for traditional manu-
facturing techniques, these columns had to be welded together
from 3 separate pieces of steel, with the heaviest column weigh-
ing approximately 55 tonnes. Each of the 2.5 meter diameter piles
supporting the plunge columns containing the heaviest steel
reinforcing cage to be installed in the U.K. to date.
Tottenham Court Road LUL Station Upgrade
Most Technically Complex Piles in UK
The most challenging aspect of the project was the construction
of the 7 Over Site Development (OSD) piles. These have been
recognised as the most technically complex piles construct-
ed in the UK. Each one took a week to construct, three of which
were positioned less than 2 metres from the LUL Northern
Line running tunnels.
Continuous Phased Surveying
As well as being involved with the pre construction phase carry-
ing out as built checks at the steel works of the steel liners, on
site we; positioned the liners for welding; provided real time as
built information during the pile oscillation phase, ending with
the final pile as built information. The deepest pile was installed
to a depth of 64 metres.
UK Firsts
Many U.K. firsts can be claimed on the OSD piling works includ-
ing the first piles with 3 steel tubular linings and the very first D
shaped pile in the UK.

DLR East India Station
Crossrail 3D Laser Scan Project
WS were commissioned by Crossrail to undertake a 3D measure-
ment survey of East India DLR station.
We first checked the integrity of the Survey Control Points provid-
ed using a Leica 1201+ Total Station and found no problems.
Remote Survey Without Track Access
Using a Leica 3D Laser Scanner we carried out a ‘non-track’
measurement survey of the station. Even though we were not
required to access the track to take measurements the scanner
was still able to capture much of the rail data.
Observations to the underside of the rail viaduct were carried out
from the public highway in liaison with the local council and prop-
erty owners.
Leica Cloudworx / AutoCAD / Microstation
The individual laser scans were dimensionally controlled by a
Leica 1201+ Total Station and registered in the office using
CloudWorx software. The modelling was carried out in AutoCAD
and the end deliverable was a rendered 3D model in DGN
(MicroStation) format.
DLR Track Awareness
Rail protection staff were utilised whist on DLR property and all
staff were DLR Track Awareness trained.
