NEW TECHNICAL CENTRE
IN ASIA PACIFIC REGION

Bridgestone Asia Pacific Technical Center Co., Ltd., wholly-owned subsidiary of Bridgestone Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd.,
started business operations in July 2013. Located in Thailand, this technical centre is the Bridgestone Group’s first
technical centre in the Asia Pacific region.

Research and Development

As markets in the Asian region continue to grow and diversify rapidly, Bridgestone sees
the need to set up a technical centre in Thailand as a step to strengthen its framework
for research and development in the region. By establishing a technical centre close to
the markets, Bridgestone will be able to grasp changes in its customers’ needs
constantly and reflect these in the development of its products.

Support as A Regional Base

The new technical centre will support the region through its functions of Tyre
Development, Production, Technology, Quality Management, and Procurement, and
serve as a regional base to enhance the operational level in terms of safety,
environment, product quality and delivery in its Asian plants.

Increase Presence In the Asia Pacific Region

Moving forward, the Bridgestone Group plans to increase its presence in the Asia
Pacific region through enhancing research and development, expanding its sales
network, and increasing tyre production capacity as it strives to achieve its mission of
"Serving Society with Superior Quality".

BRIDGESTONE NEW TECHNOLOGIES

Introduction to “ologic”

The Bridgestone Group continuously strives to develop new technologies and
products to better serve its customers with superior quality. As one of its latest
technology, Bridgestone developed the “ologic”, also known as the “large &
narrow tyre” aimed at achieving superior levels of fuel efficiency and safety.

Narrower and Larger Diameter

The “ologic” represents a new category of tyre that is narrower and features a
larger diameter than conventional tyres. The air pressure within these tyres is
higher than conventional tyres, and the design includes new pattern technology
and compounds designed specifically for use in these tyres. The new brand of
innovative technology employed in the “ologic” enables it to realise significantly
lower levels of rolling resistance and substantially higher levels of wet grip
performance. It will help vehicles achieve improved fuel efficiency and thereby
contribute to reductions in CO2 emissions.

Moving forward, Bridgestone will continue advancing the development of “ologic”
as a new technology incorporated into its ECOPIA line of fuel-efficient tyres.

Eco Technology

Eco-friendly driving with ECOPIA

Global warming has raised the awareness of green mobility. Growing number of drivers are
keen in eco-friendly driving but are unaware of the significant difference eco-friendly tyres have
on the environment. As an eco-conscious tyre manufacturer, Bridgestone continues to work
on its ECOPIA range to find the ideal mix of technologies that encourages optimal fuel
efficiency and overall performance.

ECOPIA tyre is characterized by reduced rolling resistance, achieved through the ECOPIA
compound, which means it can travel a longer distance with the same amount of energy as
oppose to a conventional tyre, hence saving on fuel consumption. At the same time, the
ECOPIA also promises uncompromised safety as it provides wet braking and handling
performance that is comparable to conventional tyres.

RETREAD TECHNOLOGY

of the raw materials needed for a new one

The materials we currently use in our products can be broadly classified into three categories – renewable materials,
non-renewable materials (exhaustible resources) and recycled materials. In addition to reducing the use of raw materials, we are
promoting the use of renewable materials in place of non-renewable ones.

As a specific example of this activity, Bridgestone is advancing its global expansion of Solution Business by providing a
combination of “retreading” together with new tyre sales and maintenance service as a package for commercial tyres. A retread
tyre is one that can be reused by applying a new tread to the existing casing. Retread tyres not only use less than one-third of
the raw materials needed for new tyres, but also help reduce the number of spent, or discarded, tyres as tyre life is extended.

ECO-ACTIVITIES
IN THE ASIA PACIFIC REGION

Green Hands Activity in Thailand

Thai Bridgestone Co., Ltd. started the Green Hands Activity in 2006 to encourage
Bridgestone communities to participate in contributing to society. This is done through
environmental conservation, waste management, ecosystem and biodiversity-learning
simultaneously, while trees are also planted with the aim of green land rehabilitation
and contributing to relieving global warming.

Yearly Coastal Cleanup in Taiwan Since 1998

Bridgestone Taiwan Co., Ltd. has been carrying out coastal cleaning activities as
part of their efforts to conserve the natural habitat of marine life, encouraging the
involvement of many Bridgestone employees while raising awareness on the
importance of environmental conservation.

Reforestation project in New Zealand

Since 2009, Bridgestone New Zealand Ltd. has been a proud sponsor of an
ongoing reforestation project with the Motuora Restoration Society. The
forests revived through the program support kiwis, and other endangered
animals by providing a safe habitat. The island reforestation project, which
involves planting of over 300,000 trees and translocation of important
animal species to Motuora, depends on the hard work of volunteers from
Bridgestone and the public.

Eco Friends Drawing Competition in India

Bridgestone India Private Ltd. conducts the “Eco Friends Drawing Competition” at its flagship
family channel concept stores to promote Bridgestone's “Eco-friendly, Safe & Reliable”
philosophy. Children who take part in this activity are educated on how and why they should
make the effort to conserve the environment. While the top three winners of the competition are
awarded Bridgestone’s “EcoDrive” Medal, every participating child also receives a certificate
of participation together with a plant sapling. Through such activities, Bridgestone hopes to
further raise awareness on the importance of caring for the environment.

ECOPIA tyres return more energy back to the tyre instad of generating
heat and compromising fuel efficiency. They are made using recycled
ground rubber, which contributes to at least 5% of the tread compound
in every ECOPIA tyre. ECOPIA tyres help channel water away from
the tyre through circumferential grooves, which improve resistance to
hydroplaning and increase wet traction.

What is Rolling Resistance?
Rolling Resistance is the force that you need to overcome when you roll an object.
The more rolling resistance it has, the more force is needed to overcome it.

What is the difference between a Low Rolling Resistance tyre and
conventional tyre?
Tyre deformation generates friction between the rubber and the road, which causes
excess Rolling Resistance. ECOPIA tyres roll more easily than conventional tyres
because their reduced tyre deformation means less resistance and less energy loss.

Communicating the joy of sport driving is core to the
POTENZA brand. In fulfilling this mission, POTENZA S001
(heir to the RE050 legacy) and POTENZA Adrenalin were
developed along distinctly different paths – the difference
lying in driving styles. With its optimal balance of function
and performance, the S001 is always stable, no matter
what the surface or how extreme the cornering. Adrenalin,
meanwhile, has been designed to handle best when
performing in dry conditions. Drivers should make their

I think drivers will realise just how far the tyre has evolved,
most noticeably when they are cornering at high speeds.

In developing the S001, we set the lofty goal of achieving excellent performance and handling in both wet and dry
conditions. By optimising contact between car and road, we achieved the most stable maneuverability possible. Another
point that sets the S001 apart is its comfortable ride. The fact that the S001 is selected for factory installation on high-
performance cars throughout Europe is recognition not only of the tyre’s premium status, but also recognition of its

ADRENALIN: PURE INTERACTION WITH THE ROAD

When developing Adrenalin, we strived to maximise the amount
of information the tyre relayed to the driver about changing road
conditions, and how truthfully it responded to steering.

It is worth noting that Adrenalin was developed in collaboration with former Formula One driver Stefano Modena, whose
precision reflexes and split-second sensibilities demand the highest level of technical performance. I’m proud to say that

Heat Control Technology

Drive in comfort even with tyre air loss

When tyres puncture, the sidewalls can suddenly warp and generate greater
heat. The biggest challenge to maintaining or increasing Run Flat Technology tyre
durability (after air pressure is lost) and enhancing riding comfort, is coping with heat
generation. Bridgestone’s heat control technology resolves this problem.
