MUHAMMAD

He was born on the 24th of August
in 1895 in the city of Diraja Seri
Menanti. He is also the 2nd son of
Yang DiPertuan Besar Negeri
Sembilan which is the son of Tuanku
Muhammad Ibni Almarhum Tuanku
Antah and Tuanku Ampuan Negeri
Sembilan, Tunku Puan Chik. His
father was Yang DiPertuan Besar
since 1888 which replaced her
grandfather, Almarhum Yam Tuan
Antah which the warrior of his state
and one of the most popular person
in history of Malaysia. Negeri
Sembilan is also one of the earliest
states that had a democratic system.

In 1917, he was appointed as a Tunku
Muda Serting after his brother’s,
Almarhum Tunku Abdul Aziz death.
On that time, his uncle, Tunku Besar
Burhanuddin Ibni Almarhum Tuanku
Antah stand for the position of
Tunku Besar Seri Menanti while his
brother, Tunku Laksamana Nasir Ibni
Tuanku Muhammad stad for the
position of Tunku Laksamana. In first
of August 1933, his father, Tuanku
Muhammad Ibni Almarhum Tuanku
Antah died at the age of 68 after 45
years ruled Negeri Sembilan. Then,
on the next day, on the second of
August 1933, he became Yang Di-
Pertuan Besar at the age of 38 to
replace his father's rules. He was
enthroned on 25th April 1934 at
Istana Lama Seri Menanti.

NEGERI SEMBILAN | 1957-1960

YANG DIPERTUAN AGONG - 2

SIR HISHAMUDDIN ALAM SHAH
ALHAJ IBNI ALMARHUM
SULTAN SIR ALA’EDDIN
SULAIMAN SHAH ALHAJ.

He was born in 13th Mei 1898 at
Istana Bandar Temasha in Kuala
Langat, Selangor. He is 3rd son of
King of Selangor, Sultan Sir
Ala’eddin Sulaiman Shah Ibni
Almarhum Yang Di-Pertuan Muda
Musa and Cik Puan Hasnah Binti
Pilong. His father became The King
of Selangor on the 17th of February
in 1899 after a year of his birth.

He became a Tengku Panglima Di
raja Selangor in 1920 at the age of
22. After 11 years, in 1931, Sultan
Hisamuddin has appointed as
Tengku Laksamana Selangor and
being in the second position after
Raja Muda Selangor which is his
brother’s, Tengku Musa Eddin. But,
the British did not like his brother
and pushed them to dismiss his
brother from being Raja Muda in
1934 and then Sultan Hisamuddin
officially became Raja Muda
Selangor to replace his brother on
the 20th of July in 1936 at Istana
Mahkota, Klang, Selangor. He then
became a King after his father’s
death in 1938 at the age of 39 years
on the 26th of January 1939.

SELANGOR | 1960

He was borned in 25th November in
1920 in Bandar Diraja, Arau, Perlis.
He is the first son of YM Tuan Syed
Hassan Ibni Almarhum Tuan Syed
Mahmud AlHaj Ibni Almarhum Raja
Syed Safi Jamalullail and YM Che
Puan Wan Teh Binti Endut. His
father was pointed out as the
upcoming king but his dad died
when he was 15.

On 30th April 1938, Tuanku Syed

Putra has appointed as Bakal Raja

Perlis which the king of Perlis at

that time was her uncle, Raja Syed

Alwi Ibni Almarhum Tuan Syed Safi

Jamalullail, but his uncle does not

have any children to continue his

legacy. Since the colonization of

Japan, he has been fired as Bakal

Raja and being replaced by his

uncle, Syed Hamzah Syed Safi

Jamalullail. After Japan

surrendered, Raja Syed Hamzah

was fired and replaced by Tuanku

Syed Putra on 4th December 1945.

He became Yang di-Pertuan Agong

on 21st September 1960 after the

death of the former YDPA.

Almarhum Tuanku Ismail

Nasiruddin Shah Ibni Almarhum

Sultan Zainal Abidin was born in

24th of January 1907 in Kuala

Terengganu. He is the 5th son of

HRH King of Terengganu, Sultan

Zainal Abidin III Mu’azzam Shah

Ibni Almarhum Sultan Ahmad and

YM Cik Maimunah Binti Abdullah.

His father died when he was just 11

years old.

In 1940, Tuanku Ismail Nasiruddin
has been appointed as Yang
Teramat Mulia Tengku Sri Paduka
Raja from his brother and then, his
brother Sultan Sulaiman Badrul
Alam died in 25th September 1942,
so his nephew, Tengku Ali has been
appointed to replace his father as
King of Terengganu. But, British did
not like Tengku Ali to rule
Terengganu for some reasons. So, in
1945, government meeting councils
announced the dismissal of Tengku
Ali as the King of Terengganu and
his replacement filled by Tuanku
Ismail as a 15th King of Terengganu.
He used the title Ke Bawah Duli
Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Ismail
Nasiruddin Shah Ibni Almarhum
Sultan Zainal Abidin III and he was
enthroned in 16 December 1945 in
Istana Maziah, Kuala Terengganu.
He then became the 4th Yang Di
Pertuan Agong in 21st September
1965 at the age of 58 years old.

ALMARHUM SULTAN
BADLISHAH

Almarhum Al-Mu’tasimu Billahi
Muhibbudin Tuanku Al-Haj Abdul
Halim Mu’adzam Shah Ibni
Almarhum Sultan Badlishah was
borned in 28th November 1927 in
Istana Anak Bukit, Alor Star, Kedah.
He is the second son of DYMM
Sultan Badlishah Ibni Almarhum
Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah
and YTM Tunku SOfiah binti
Almarhum Tunku Mahmud. He was
raised in Istana Anak Bukit as a
discipline prince.

He was appointed as a Duli Yang
Teramat Mulia Raja Muda Kedah in
1949 at the age of 22. He was
appointed as Pemangku Sultan
Kedah on 9 March 1957 when his
father went overseas. His father
died on 14th July 1958, so he was
enthroned as King of Kedah on
20th February 1959 at the age of 31.
He then became a 5th Yang di-
Pertuan Agong on 21st September
1965 at the age of 38 due to his
rotation turn.

KEDAH | 1970-1975

YANG DIPERTUAN AGONG - 6

ALMARHUM TUANKU YAHYA
PETRA IBNI ALMARHUM
SULTAN IBRAHIM

Tuanku Yahya Petra was borned on
10th December 1917 in Istana Balai
Besar, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. He is
the second son of 26 siblings of Ke
Bawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan
Ibrahim Petra Ibni Almarhum
Sultan Muhammad IV and Yang
Mulia Cik Embong Binti Daud. His
father was appointed as the King of
Kelantan Darul Naim on 21st
January 1944 until his death on 9th
July 1960.

On 21st July 1939, Tuanku Yahya has
endowed with the title of Tengku
Temenggong Kelantan at the age of
22. He is also endowed the title of
Darjah Kerabat Kelantan. He then
promoted as Tengku Bendahara
Kelantan on 6th February 1945 from
his father. He has appointed as
Yang Teramat Mulia Tengku
Mahkota Kelantan on 19th June
1948 to replace her brother. After
his father died in 9th July 1960, he
has enthroned as the King of
Kelantan on 17th July 1961 from
YAM Tengku Panglima Raja
Kelantan Tengku Long Ahmad in
Istana Balai Besar Kota Bharu. He
then became Yang di-Pertuan
Agong in 21st September 1975 at
the age of 58 to replace the former
Yang di-Pertuan Agong and served
this position in 3 years and 6
months due to his death in 1979.

HAJI AHMAD SHAH AL-
MUSTA’IN BILLAH IBNI
ALMARHUM SULTAN ABU
BAKAR RI’AYATUDDIN AL-
MUADZAM SHAH

Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah was born
on 24th October 1930 in Istana
Mangga Tunggal, Pekan, Pahang.
He was the only son of Sultan Abu
Bakar Ri’ayatuddin Al-Muazzam
Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan
Abdullah Al-Mu’tassim Billah Shah
and Tengku Ampuan Besar Raja
Fatimah binti Almarhum Sultan
Iskandar Shah Kaddasullah.
EDUCATION: Sultan Haji Ahmad
Shah was a student of the Malay
College Kuala Kangsar and he then
received his diplomas in public
administration from Worcester
College, Oxford, and the University
of Exeter.

Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah served as
the seventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong
of Malaysia started from 26th April
1979 until 25th April 1984.

PAHANG| 1979-1984

ALMARHUM TUANKU SULTAN
ISKANDAR IBNI ALMARHUM
SULTAN ISMAIL

Sultan Iskandar was the third and
the eldest surviving son of Sultan
Ismail ibni Sultan Ibrahim and
Sultanah Aminah binti Ungku
Ahmad and he was born on 8th
April 1932 in Istana Semayam, Johor
Bahru.

On 10th May 1981, he was appointed
as the Regent of Johor following his
father’s death. He was elected as
Yang di-Pertuan Agong on 9th
February 1984 and being of YDPA
on 26th April in the same year until
1989. Sultan Iskandar served in the
capacity of the Yang-Di Pertuan
Agong until 1989, whereby the
Sultan of Perak succeeded him.[30]
As the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,
Sultan Iskandar was automatically
designated under constitutional
provisions as the Supreme
Commander of the Malaysian
Armed Forces, holding the rank of
the Marshal of the Royal Malaysian
Air Force, Admiral of the Fleet of
the Royal Malaysian Navy, and Field
Marshal of the Army. On 8 April
2006, the Sultan appointed his
grandson Ismail Ibrahim—the son of
the Tunku Mahkota then—as the
Raja Muda during an investiture in
conjunction with his birthday. The
rank of Raja Muda denotes that
Ismail is second in position in
terms of the order of succession to
the Johor royal throne.

Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah

was born in 19th April 1928 at

Kampung Manggis, Batu Gajah,

Perak. He is the only son of Sultan

Yussuff Izzuddin Shah ibni

Almarhum Sultan Abdul Jalil

Karamatullah Nasiruddin

Mukhtaram Shah Radziallah Hu’an-

hu and Toh Puan Besar Hatijah

binti Toh Indera Wangsa Ahmad

and he was also brought up by his

mother outside the royal circles:

Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah
wan entitled as Raja Muda of Perak
by his uncle, Sultan Idris
Almutawakil Alallahi Shah II on 1st
July 1983. During the long reign of
His uncle, his other elder’s brother
had died, and his only surviving
elder brother which is Raja
Baharom Shah is refused the office
of Crown Prince and Sultan Azlan
Shah was suddenly heir to the
throne. After 6 months, his uncle
died and then he became The King
of Perak on 3rd February 1984. He
was officially officially become the
King of Perak on 9th December
1985. Then, he became the 9th Yang
Di-Pertuan Agong in April 1989.

PERAK| 1989-1994

YANG DIPERTUAN AGONG - 10

ALMARHUM TUANKU JA’AFAR
IBNI ALMARHUM TUANKU
ABDUL RAHMAN

Tuanku Ja’afar was born on 19th
July 1922 in Klang, Selangor and he
was raised in Seri Menanti, Negeri
Sembilan. He is the son of Tuanku
Abdul Rahman ibni Almarhum
Tuanku Muhammad which is the
first Yang di-Pertuan Agong and
Che Engku Maimunah binti
Abdullah.

Due to his brother’s death in 1967,
Negeri Sembilan needs a new ruler.
So, they made a selection to
replace his brother, Tuanku
Munawir. The Undang Yang Empat
then decided to choose Tunku
Ja’afar Ibni Tuanku Abdul Rahman
who was 44 years old at that time
to succeed his elder brother as
Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri
Sembilan. He then enthroned as
the 10th ruler of Negeri Sembilan
on 18th April 1967. He then became
a 10th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of
Malaysia from 26th April 1994 until
25th April 1999 to replace the
former Yang di-Pertuan Agong,
Sultan Azlan Shah.

Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah
was born on Monday 8th March
1926 at Istana Bandar Temasha,
Jugra, Kuala Langat. He is the
eldest son of Sultan Hisamuddin
Alam Shah Al-Haj ibni Almarhum
Sultan Alauddin Sulaiman Shah and
Tengku Ampuan Raja Jemaah binti
Almarhum Raja Ahmad.

Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah
was appointed as Tengku
Laksamana of Selangor on 1st
August 1946 and as the Raja Muda
of Selangor on 13th May 1950. He
became the 8th Sultan of Selangor
on 3rd September 1960 to replace
his father. He was the second
oldest ruler to be elected as the
eleventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong
from 26th April 1999 until 21st
November 2001 due to his death
after his service for two years and 6
months.

SELANGOR| 1999-2001

YANG DIPERTUAN AGONG - 12

TUANKU SYED SIRAJUDDIN
IBNI ALMARHUM TUANKU
SYED PUTRA JAMALULLAIL

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin was born
on 17th April 1943 in Arau, Perlis. He
is the second of ten children of
Almarhum Tuanku Syed Putra
Jamalullail and Tengku Badriah
binti Tengku Almarhum Tengku
Ismail.

In October 1960, he was appointed
as Raja Muda of Perlis while still a
student. He then was installed as
the 12th ruler of Perlis in 2000 the
day after his father’s death. He has
elected as the 12th Yang di-Pertuan
Agong of Malaysia on 13th
December 2001 which earlier than
expected due to the former’s Yang
di-Pertuan Agong death. His term
ended on 12th December 2006

AL-WATHIQU BILLAH
TUANKU MIZAN ZAINAL
ABIDIN IBNI ALMARHUM
SULTAN MAHMUD AL-
MUKTAFI BILALL SHAH.

Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin was
born on 22nd January 1962 at Istana
Maziah, Kuala Terengganu. He is
the eldest son of Sultan Mahmud
Al-Muktafi Billah Shah and Sharifa
Nong Fatima Alsaggof.

Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin was
appointed as Yang di-Pertuan Muda
of Terengganu on 6th November
1990, and then he was appointed as
the Regent of Terengganu to 8th
November 1990. He became the
President of the Council for Islam
and Malay Culture of Terengganu
from 1991 to 1995. He also became
the youngest ruler of Malaysia's
federal state when he was
appointed as the King of
Terengganu on 15th May 1998 at the
age of 36 due to his father’s death.
He was elected to be the 13th YDPA
on 13th December 2006 as the five-
year term of being YDPA.

Sultan Muhammad V was born on
6th October 2010 in Istana Batu,
Kota Bharu, Kelantan as Tengku
Muhammad Faris Petra ibni Tengku
Ismail Petra. He is the eldest son of
Sultan Ismail Petra and Raja
Perempuan Tengku Anis.

Sultan Muhammad V was elected to
become the 15th Yang di-Pertuan
Agong started from 13th December
2016 at Istana Negara, Jalan Duta,
Kuala Lumpur. He then became the
first Yang di-Pertuan Agong to step
down from the throne which in 6th
January 2019 while his term should
end on 12th December 2021.

He was born in 30th July 1959 in
Istana Mangga Tunggal,Pekan,
Pahang. He is the first son of
Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad
Shah of Pahang and Tengku
Ampuan Afzan and he is also the
fourth child among eight siblings.

Sultan Abdullah was appointed as
the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang on
1st July 1975. He was also appointed
as the Regent of Pahang twice. The
first time was when his father was
elected as YDPA, then the second
time when his father’s health
deteriorated in 2016. On 15th
January 2019, Sultan Abdullah was
proclaimed as the 6th Sultan of
Pahang upon the abdication of his
father due to ill health. Sultan
Abdullah then has been elected as
the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong
due to former YDPA who abdicated
weeks earlier. He was sworn as
Yang di-Pertuan Agong on 31st
January 2019 in a public ceremony
at Istana Negara, Jalan Tuanku
Abdul Halim.

Malay School until standard two,
then he continued his primary
education at Wellesley Primary
School in Penang and followed by
Westland Primary School until
1955. Then he began his secondary
education at Penang Free School
on 1956 and he further his studies
at Wellingborough School until

a Cadet Officer at the Royal Military
Academy in Sandhurst, England
from 1964 until 1965.

After he went back from England,
he was serves with the Ministry of
Defence Malaysia. He was post as
Second Lieutenant in 2nd Regiment
of the Malaysian Reconnaissance
Corps on 1965. In 1966, he was
transferred to Sabah and then to
Sarawak in 1967. He then served in
Pahang for several years until he
resigned on 31st December 1969 to
return to Perlis. He then was
promoted to the rank of Lieutenant
in December 1967. In 1970, he
served in the armed forces again
until 1972. He then was promoted to
Major on 1st October 1972.

His first child is His Royal Higness
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra and
Her Higness Sharifah Fazira.

He was married to Tengku Fauziah
binti Almarhum Tengku Abdul
Rashid at Kota Bharu, Kelantan on

Sultan Mizal Zainal Abidin was
studied at Sultan Sulaiman Primary
School and Sultan Sulaiman
Secondary School in Kuala
Terengganu. He then further
studies abroad at the Geelong
Grammar School in Geelong,
Australia. In 1988, he completed his
studies at US International
University-Europe and earn B.A in
International Relations. He then
participated in military course at
the Army School of Languages
from 1982 until 1983. Then he went
to Royal Millitary Academy
Sandhurst in England and

On 15th September 1981, Tuanku
Mizan was appointed as Assistant
Land Levy Collector, then a year

Officer in Kuala Terengganu. In
1988, he was appointed as a State
Administrative Officer at the State
Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) in
Wisma Darul Iman, Kuala
Terengganu. He also served as
Assistant District Land Officer at
the Kuala Terengganu District Land
Office.

Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin has
married to Sultanah Nur Zahirah on
28th March 1996 in Kuala
Terengganu. They have two sons
and 2 daughters.

His 4 children are Her Higness
Tengku Nadhirah Zaharah, His
Royal Higness Tengku Muhammad
Ismail, His Higness Tengku
Muhammad Mua’az and the last one
