THE MOORE CENTER

FOR EXCELLENCE

Bishop Moore Catholic’s campus footprint will be changing
over the next year to accommodate for the growth of the
school and provide enhancements necessary to serve
our student body. A 5,000 square foot band building
and a 27,000 square foot two story building called
the Moore Center for Excellence will be erected in
spaces neighboring the stadiums.

The current band room is located within ear shot of the
administrative building and the art wing. This space has
served us well, but the new band space will allow our
band students the space needed to practice and will
place them within a few feet of the field; providing our
marching band close proximity to where they will
perform.

The Moore Center for Excellence will provide seven
additional classrooms, a weight room, alumni event
space with a balcony overlooking the fields, a
merchandise store, locker rooms, and a multi-purpose
space that can be used for retreats.

The ceremonial groundbreaking took place on January
27, 2020, appropriately on the opening of Catholic
Schools Week. The morning began with a school Mass
celebrated by Bishop John Noonan and concelebrated
by 8 local pastors. The groundbreaking held at the future
site of the building was attended by diocesan officials,
donors, parents, students, and those involved in the
design process.

The Moore Center initiative affords donors an attractive
range of prominent and meaningful opportunities to
link their name, or the name of a family member or
honored friend, in perpetuity with the life and work of
Bishop Moore Catholic.

Naming and recognition opportunities to
support the Moore Center are still available.
These opportunities include:

The Moore Center $1,000,000 1 available

Strength & Conditioning Center $500,000 1 available

Lobby $150,000 1 available

Classroom/Team Room $100,000 2 available

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
PAUL PERREAULT

Since graduating from Bishop Moore Catholic in 1975, Paul Perreault has been
leading the way in bringing life-saving medicines to people all over the world.

He currently serves as the CEO and Managing Director of CSL Limited,
headquarted in Melbourne, Australia. CSL is the fifth largest biotech
company and second largest supplier of influenza vaccines in the
world, researching, developing and supplying medicines for rare
diseases to over 60 countries.

This past October, Paul was recognized by the Harvard Business
Review (HBR) as one of the Top 100 Best Performing CEOs

in the World 2019. The HBR uses a rankings metric based on
financial performance as well as environmental, social, and
governance ratings over the entirety of the CEOs tenure.

“This recognition speaks volumes about the commitment our people
have for delivering on our promise to support patients with rare and
serious diseases and to protect public health around the world,”
Perreault said.

During Paul’s tenure, CSL has also been recognized by Forbes as one
of the Top 50 Employers in World and by Thomas Reuters as one of
the Top 100 Companies in Global Diversity. Recently, Penn State University
also named CSL as their Corporate Partner of the Year.

In addition to being a supporter of global healthcare, Paul and
his wife Beverly have been avid supporters of BMC.
The family foundation served as the presenting sponsor
for the inaugural Legacy Gala in 2014. They
also have established the Perreault Family
Endowment to financially assist BMC alumni
who wish to further their Catholic vocations
and education through religious studies.
And most recently, the family has generously
committed to a lead gift for the Moore
Center for Excellence.

When asked what BMC means to him
and his family, Paul replied, “The faith-
based values and superb education that
BMC provides to the students and alumni,
and the lasting example that this has on
future generations is amazing. In addition,
the lasting friendships that we fostered from
our days at BMC remain to this day.”

JOURNALISMFINE artsTHE BMC CHOIR

continues to excel at its craft. Junior Kaitlyn P. was selected to
represent the school at the 2020 All-State Choir in Tampa
after undergoing rigorous auditions. The entire choir performed
at St. James Cathedral as preparation for the state music
competition. And...the choir was once again selected to
perform in the Candlelight vigil at Epcot on December 22nd
with Steven Curtis Chapman as the narrator.

The 2019 volume 65 Moore Memories yearbook Be Heard was a huge success. The
journalism class met every deadline and successfully distributed over 1,000 yearbooks to
the student body. For their efforts, they received the following recognition:

Columbia Scholastic Press Association: Gold Medalist with 926 points out of 1000
possible. Received All-Columbian Honors for the Reference section.

National Scholastic Press Association: First Class rating with 449 points out of 500
possible. Received marks of distinction in Essentials, Writing & Editing, and Photography.

The Herff Jones 2020 “best-of” publication, Portfolio: Cover and Athletic Endsheet
were featured.

The art department participated in the 43rd Maitland Rotary Art Show on November
10th and received several awards. Additionally, our students displayed their creative
genius at the annual Larry Kelly Winter Art Exhibit on December 4th.

BISHOP MOORE THEATRE COMPANY

The drama students have put together quite the season for the viewing
pleasure of the BMC community. In the fall, the fairy tales of the Brothers
Grimm were turned on their heads in this fast-paced, rollicking ride as two
narrators and several actors attempted
to combine all 209 stories ranging
from classics like Snow White,
Cinderella, and Hansel and Gretel,
to more bizarre, obscure stories like
The Devil's Grandmother and
The Girl Without Hands -
The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon.

In the Spring, the thespians will be performing their rendition of THE MUSICAL
FOOTLOOSE. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small
farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new APRIL1ST, 2ND, 3RD & 4TH
high school. What he isn't prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, includ- AT 7 PM
ing a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, who is determined
to exercise the control over the town's youth that he cannot command in his HEIDRICH DOME
own home. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son
he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.
FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people while
guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

&BLACK GOLD BRIGADE
The Black & Gold Brigade have had a very productive start to the 2019 school year
and continue their success as they march into 2020.

Our Band participated in two FMBC
Marching Band competitions, The
Colonial Invitational and The University
Classic, and came home with first
place trophies in both.

The Brigade marched in the Veterans
Day Parade in Downtown Orlando
and represented BMC in the Winter
Park Christmas Parade as they joyfully
escorted Santa down Park Ave.

If you happen past the band room this
winter, you may find them preparing
for their historic spring trip.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

THOMAS COPPOLA

When Thomas Coppola ‘10 and his
friends took home the Talent Show gold
with Bohemian Rhapsody his Junior
year, the Lord had already invited him
to consider the priesthood. As a matter
of fact, throughout his time at BMC,
the Lord continued inviting him; as he
played soccer, shared deep faith
conversations with friends, or again
won the talent show his senior year.
He remembers his friends calling him
"Father Thomas" which would make him
mad. It turns out, his friends recognized
his vocation right along with him.

He first truly encountered the person of
Jesus as a parishioner and student at
Annunciation, when once a week his
mom would take the family to pray the
rosary with Mrs. Nettles. In 5th grade,
the Lord asked him to be a priest,
and it was what he wanted more
than anything. A year later, Thomas
became aware of the reality that priests
couldn’t get married and prayed,
“Lord, I am open to your will, but
if I find a wife, I will get married.”

During this time of spiritual growth, Thomas also had Thomas was successful in his pursuit of medicine which

education. Intentionality with a search for excellence,
ultimately to be given over to God. If your standard is
God instead of the person next to you, your search
for excellence never ends.”

If high school was a search for glory, college, was a
search for peace. At the University of Florida, Thomas’s
feet were straddled between two worlds; carrying the
traditions he had been taught, but also experiencing a
new world of availability which put those traditions to
the test. Knowing wasn’t enough. He had to internalize
these values and let them impact his whole life.

Thomas wrestled with God. “Like Jacob, I limped for
6 months because I wanted to join my friends but had
no peace.” Then, during a homily, a priest encouraged
the congregation to pray the rosary during Lent, which
brought back all of those childhood memories.

It was through praying the rosary that Thomas really fell
in love with God. “Love is the most practical thing there
is in the world. When you fall in love, it changes
everything.” Ultimately this journey was between the
two of them, and once Tom turned the search for truth
into a dialogue with Truth himself, it became fruitful.
