The North Macedonian Association of
Agricultural Cooperatives was founded in 2012
on the initiative of 12 agricultural cooperatives
to create an umbrella organization that
would represent the interests of agricultural
cooperatives and protect their rights, to
consolidate the work of agricultural cooperatives
in order to achieve their individual and common
rights and to promote the cooperative movement
in the country.
In 2013, NMAAC received the status of
socio-economic partner of the Government
and was recognized as a representative actor
for representing the interests of agricultural
cooperatives before the Ministry of Agriculture,
Forestry and Water Economy (MAFWE).
In its work so far, NMAAC has implemented
activities aimed at improving the legal framework
for agricultural cooperatives, promoting
cooperatives and supporting the work of
agricultural cooperatives. One of the regular
activities of the Association is the celebration
of the International Day of Cooperatives, which
is celebrated in parallel every year around the
world.
Vision, mission and values of NMAAC
Vision: Successful, modern, united and responsible farmer’s
bearers of the development of the association in the Republic
of North Macedonia.
NMAAC believes that the economic associatiaon of farmers
in cooperatives is one of the key preconditions for successful
development of agriculture in the country.
Mission: NMAAC exists to organize and connect agricultural cooperatives
on national level, to strengthen their capacities, to represent their interests
and to promote agricultural production and rural development.
NMAAC as an umbrella organization of agricultural cooperatives
strives to be the key link between them and to provide support for their
development and growth. By uniting the cooperatives, NMAAC is committed
to creating mechanisms for them to articulate their needs, and on that basis
to represent their interests before the institutions and key stakeholders.
NMAAC also works on capacity building of agricultural cooperatives
in order for them to ensure responsible and successful operation and
adequate satisfaction of the needs and interests of its members.
Values:
In its work NMAAC adheres to the following key values
and principles:
• Partnership and cooperation - NMAAC builds cooperation and
partnership with all relevant institutions, as well as other stakeholders
(donors, companies, civil society organizations) with whom it shares
a common vision and values;
• Transparency and accountability - NMAAC shares all relevant
information with its members, stakeholders and the public and
will ensure that it is accountable to all those who support it in
any way;
• Quality and excellence - NMAAC strives to ensure that
all activities and services it offers to its members are of
top quality and meet the highest standards;
• Sustainability - In its work NMAAC is integrating the
concept of sustainability which means that it will implement
activities and provide services that have long-term positive
effects on users;
• Care for the environment - Through its activities NMAAC presents
that it cares for the environment and does not cause any damage to
the environment in which it operates. In addition, through its work it
supports, promotes and prioritizes approaches that take care of the
environment;
• Learning, Development and Innovation - Through its operations,
NMAAC is committed to providing continuous learning, development
and innovation to its members, as well as to its governing structures
and Executive office;
NMAAC unites 48 agricultural cooperatives that are members of the
Association on a voluntary basis, based on established rules, have control and
decide on the functioning of the organization. As a socio-economic partner of the
Government and has delegated representatives to sub-sectoral groups of MAFWE.
It is a representative of agricultural cooperatives as most of the registered and
active cooperatives are members of NMAAC.
NMAAC is organizing and connecting cooperatives at the national level,
by strengthening their capacities, representing their interests for promotion of
agricultural production and rural development and promotion for association of
farmers in order to achieve common interests for development, profitable agriculture
that provides a dignified life to farmers and will enable the members of agricultural
cooperatives to be bearers of the development of cooperatives in the Republic of
North Macedonia.
The structure of NMAAC consists of an Assembly which is the highest
governing structure and which consists of all members. The Management board
is elected by the Assembly and consists 9 members and the Supervisory board
is also elected by the Assembly and consists 5 members. The representative of
NMAAC is the President who is also the President of the Management board. The
last composition of the Management and Supervisory board of NMAAC, as well
as the President of the Association were elected in February 2021.
