The Southwoods Waterfront is one of the most beautiful
places on Earth! Since arrival day, all of our campers have
been down at the waterfront to take their Skills Check,
which helps our amazing Waterfront team know where
they’ll be safe to swim! Everyone at Southwoods (both
campers and counselors) takes a skill check, and receives
either a red, blue, or gold tag.

Red tag swimmers can swim in the shallow end, blue tag
swimmers can swim in the shallow end and lap lanes, and
gold tag swimmers can swim in the shallow end, lap lanes,
and deep end! At Southwoods, we encourage campers to
try their skill checks again, after some swimming lessons
from a member of the waterfront staff. Some of our
campers have already worked hard with the lifeguards and
moved up a tag level! No matter your tag color, everyone
can have a wonderful time at the Southwoods waterfront!

Dear Southwoods,

What a fantastic start we have had this session here at Southwoods! How about that opening
night welcome campfire? I have never seen Southwoods sing and cheer and laugh with such
wild enthusiasm. To add to that start, the weather has been deliciously perfect and all of our in

and out of Camp activities have been awesome!!!

And speaking of activities, just think of all the things you have been busy doing since
Wednesday when you got here...Varsity under the lights and inter-camp sports, our play
auditions for SHREK the musical, All Camp Shaving Cream fight that started as a Tribal Fake
and ended with the real Tribal Break and giant sprinkler, Tribal Tug on the beach, All Camp
Campfire, Trek trips; Mountain Biking, Caving, and Upper Senior Boys and girls hiking
Cascade Mountain, Early Risers Club fishing, water-skiing and tennis just to name a few, and
all the other wacky and wild evening activities and events. WOW…do we have a 40 hour day or

what????!

More important than all the silly, amazing and great events we have enjoyed so far, is how fast
you all have become such great friends. Friends are what makes summers at Southwoods so
very special for all of us. You are truly living The Southwoods Way. Watching you raise your
voices every night to congratulate each other as you get a fuzzy, whether at sports, campfires,
mealtimes, cabin cleanup, group activities, or our out of camp trips…you have all been helpful

and kind to one another. Way to go Southwoods!!!!

Believe it or not, camp is going to fly by and be over before you know it. So let’s take advantage
of the time we have together and make sure sure we stop, take a moment, and enjoy every

second of where we are and who we are with, because before we know it, we will have to wait
11 months to do it again.

Love
Andrea & Scott

Welcome Campfire Wonders

We celebrated our reunion together at
Southwoods with an amazing Welcome Campfire!
Campers watched as members of the Southwoods
staff performed some classic Southwoods campfire
songs like the Moose song, the Burrito song, the
Salmon song, Herman the Worm, the Milk song,
and more! We also recognized the Southwoods
returners with their 3 year t-shirts, 5 year fleeces, 8
year blankets, 10 year sweatshirts, and 15 year rain
jackets! Part of what makes Southwoods so special
is the family we build together, and a huge part of that is being together year after year!
Campfire was closed out by Program Assistant Jordan Shedrofsky, who played songs
like Riptide, Build Me Up Buttercup, and Take Me Home, Country Roads! It was a
beautiful opening campfire and a perfect way to start our summer together!

SUNDAY SUMMARIES

Tribal Break, Tribal Tug, and Campfire! Page 5

Tribal Break happened on Saturday afternoon! During Free Play, the whole
camp gathered on the soccer ?ield to take some drone footage of all of us
together! After a few different group shots, Head Staff surprised the
campers with a SHAVING CREAM FIGHT!!!! During the mayhem, everyone
got a can of shaving cream and had a blast spraying each other and running
around the soccer ?ield! Afterwards, everyone gathered to take a silly group
photo post-shaving cream, at which point.... TRIBAL BREAK!!!!! Everyone
jumped up in excitement to grab a colored paper and ?ind out which tribe
they’d be cheering on this summer. We ?inished off Tribal Break with the
giant sprinkler!

On Sunday morning, Iroquois, Navajo, and Mohawk faced off in a ?ierce
Tribal Tug battle, followed by group and individual games in the afternoon.
After an intense day of competition, it was Mohawk who raised their tribe’s
?lag at evening lineup! There’s tons of Tribal War left to go- who will come
out victorious? We’ll just have to wait and see!

Every Sunday night at Southwoods features our traditional all-camp
camp?ire. This week, the Upper Inter Boys and Girls hosted with the theme
of Dependability!! Camp?ire also included some camp classics like the
Moose Song, the Milk song, and more! LIT Director Brian Rauch closed out
camp?ire on the guitar, playing songs like Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran
and Humble and Kind by Tim McGraw. We can’t wait for the next camp?ire!
