LAND DRAINAGE & ATTENUATION
Planning restrictions and environmental sustainability requirements make it essential to have any drainage work carried out by a
specialist land drainage contractor. We specialise in providing highly effective land drainage solutions and systems in a wide variety of
challenging environments, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget and to the correct standards.
Since 2002, we have been carrying out land and sports pitch drainage installations, so we understand the regulations and the
importance of designing every system on a site-by-site basis.
At the start of a project, we undertake a site survey to address the topography of the land and the soil makeup, which will then
indicate the problems and any requirements to consider. Our highly qualified land drainage specialists then put together a bespoke
design, which is tailored to your site’s requirements. Whether your needs demand a surface water drainage system or a more complex
deep drainage system with a restricted outflow, we have the capacity to provide first-class land drainage design, management and
installation services.
Every land drainage project we work on is approached with innovation and precision. Our effective, modern solutions are installed
efficiently and professionally with specialist equipment such as AFT Whizz Wheels and chain trenchers.

the number of stakeholders involved. However,
CLS worked in a non-adversarial manner and
took a flexible approach to the Clients and others’

safe management of high pedestrian flows and

YARM SCHOOL CASE STUDY - YARM SCHOOL
HOCKEY PITCH CONSTRUCTION, BOATHOUSE CONSTRUCTION, HARD AND SOFT LANDSCAPING
Located on an environmentally sensitive site next to the River Tees, historic Yarm School appointed us as their
main contractor to carry out major improvements to their sporting provision and car park.
The project involved the construction of a full-sized synthetic hockey pitch, a modern boathouse and a new car
parking provision. This is in addition to the MUGA and cricket training facility we had previously constructed on
the other side of the school grounds.

OVERFIELDS PRIMARY CASE STUDY - OVERFIELDS PRIMARY SCHOOL
SCHOOL
CIVIL ENGINEERING
To make a more practical use of space, we were
appointed by Overfields Primary School to
construct a new car park on an unused area of the
school grounds.
At the start of the project, the topsoil was stripped and
all site vegetation removed, along with the existing
footpaths, kerbs and boundary fencing. Once the
site was cleared, the area was then excavated to the
required formation level. Precast concrete kerbs were
laid into concrete foundations along with drainage
channel kerbing.
A full-surface water drainage system was installed and
all existing manhole covers and inspection chambers
were adjusted and finished to the new levels.
We then installed a geotextile layer, a 250mm layer
of Type 3 open graded unbound sub-base material
and a two-layer macadam surface to meet EN13108-1
standards. Thermoplastic parking bay line markings
were then installed to complete the surface.
Block paving perimeter footpaths were installed in a
herringbone pattern along with bird’s mouth fencing
to separate the car park and pedestrian areas. Wire
mesh security fencing was also installed to the external
perimeter of the car park.

RIDLEY PARK CASE STUDY - RIDLEY PARK
PLAY AREA REFURBISHMENT
After a competitive tendering process, we were
appointed by Blyth Valley Borough Council to fully
refurbish the existing play area within Ridley Park.
Established in 1904 on land donated by Viscount
Matthew White Ridley, the park provides a variety of
recreational opportunities for the local community
and is a well visited area.
The project began with the removal of the existing play
equipment and a small cut and fill earthworks operation
to level the ground. We then installed bark areas with
associated timber unilog edgings, planted trees,
constructed and installed turf beds and fitted a bitmac
footpath with traditional tegula edging.
To create a more exciting and up-to-date play
environment for the community to enjoy, we installed
a variety of new playground activities. These included
caterpillar swings, a tightrope walk, a hill-side slide,
mountain boulders and more. The play area is now a
great addition to the formal gardens and wooded area
