BUSINESS STUDIES CONTROLLED ASSESMENT

Business Studies Controlled Assessment – To what extent is

the business you have chosen more successful in adding

value than a competitor.

Adding value is the process the difference between the price of the
finished product/service and the cost involved in making it. Added
value is equivalent to the increase in value that a business creates by
undertaking the production process. An example of adding value

would be branding, a reputation for things such as quality or value

that customers are prepared to pay for. For example Nike trainers sell
for much more than Slazenger, even though the production costs per
pair are probably pretty similar! This is an example of added value.

In my controlled assessment, I will focus on the business ‘Capital
Compactors’. Capital compactors is owned by Alistair and Joe Lindsay.
Capital compactors is described on their web site as ‘’The U.K.’s lead-
ing compactor and waste baler supplier we aim to remain the most
competitive in the field, with a backup service that is second to none.
We have just opened our new purpose built, fully equipped manufac-
turing plant in Barnsley where our compactors and waste balers are
produced.’’ Capital compactors was founded in March 2000.
