MESSAGE
KEKAL & TEKAL (Preseverance & Grit)
As quoted by Michael Jordan, ”Obstacles don’t have to stop
you. If you run into a wall, do not turn around and give up.
Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around
it.” Keeping that in mind, let us look at the bright side even
though the Covid-19 pandemic is still not declining. The
National Book Council of Malaysia (NBCM) believes this is
the right time to explore potential actions which could help
the Malaysian publishing industry to reach out to foreign
partners and improve its international exposure.
Not forgetting, publishing is an ever-evolving landscape,
one that can be quite unpredictable to gauge. With that
belief, Malaysia once again presents our best works − The
50 Best Malaysian Titles 2020/2021, both in printed
and e-catalogue to the international level with the hope of
showcasing Malaysia’s uniqueness in books form.
Getting the opportunity to participate in this prestigious
Book Fair is a dream for those involved in publishing industry.
This is the time, for us to get access to the international
market, meeting with sellers, buyers, traders from all over
the world including scouting for agents and translators.
NBCM will ensure that the Malaysian book industry will
continue to shine in spite of challenges and obstacles.
We believe, there is a way out there, to market our books,
channel them correctly through e-commerce and establish
partnerships to deliver a long-term sustainable ventures for
our book industry to preserve on a stronger grounds. Through
the 2020/2021 online store, we were fascinated to learn that
there was a huge resurgence in the sale of old classics, with
readers going back to the nostalgia of books they loved in the
past for entertainment and education. We predict that this will
influence future publishing trends and may even be the content
for authors to meet readers’ demand.
We believe this catalogue would be a note of success for the
readers and traders to dwell with. As the National Book Council of
Malaysia, we will always strive for the sustainability of the book
industry which would always be relevant in people’s life.
Thank you.
