KERN
EDUCATION PLEDGE
Building a Pathway to the Future
No single program or institution can
single-handedly solve the complex,
large-scale, education and workforce
readiness challenges facing our community.
The Pledge
Kern’s 47 school districts and partnering institutions of higher education have committed to working
together as one system to ensure student success. The Pledge signatories have agreed to:
Meet regularly, recognizing that work is generational and requires long-term
stakeholder commitment.
Work together within an environment of co-learning and collaboration.
Share best practices, services and resources.
Commit to innovation and possibility thinking to achieve greater outcomes for all
students.
Share student data to set baseline measures and monitor progress toward
achieving collective goals.
The Kern Integrated Data System (KIDS) is an integral part of the Kern Education Pledge and
ensures the sharing of student outcome data to assist all stakeholders in making informed
decisions about what is best for students, teachers and schools. KIDS is a powerful, and secure,
student data warehouse where educators have access to large data sets and a myriad of
real-time reports that can be disaggregated to:
• Inform current instructional practices;
• Implement targeted instructional strategies;
• Provide warning signals where student interventions might be needed;
• Illuminate bright spots that might be investigated and replicated; and
• Activate professional development needs for teachers, administrators and other
instructional support staff across Kern County.
