October 2019

Letter from the GM

Thanks to everyone that participated in our food
and beverage survey a couple of months back.

We have and will continue to improve our operations based on your input. With that
in mind, I hope you were able to attend our Vendor Showcase “A small bite” on Sep-
tember 25.The showcase provided members with samples of the direction we are
going using sustainable, organic, grass-fed, free-range, antibiotic free meats, seafood
and produce. There will be a follow-up survey within the next few weeks that will
help us track progress in our programing and goals.

As of this writing, there are still openings for the “Supper Club”. For $50 per person
monthly, you receive a $30 credit towards a bottle of wine per month, a complemen-
tary shared plate and dessert at every visit to the Oak Room, no corkage fee and the
opportunity each month to join in exclusive communal dinners with other Supper
Club members.

I also wanted to remind everyone that if you have not made arrangements for your
holiday events and parties, you should do so now. This year, the Burnham Library and
1898 Room have been added as event space and they are excellent options for up
to 40 or more depending on the set up. Irene and her crew do an excellent job and
your guests will be impressed and thrilled.

About five or six years ago, the Board of Directors embarked on a Long Range Stra-

ersBoard tegic Plan for The Club. Many of the goals and objectives from that plan have come
to fruition so your Board of Directors recently worked on a refresher to identify other
Members

Richard O. Doran goals, objectives and programs for the future. I have had the honor of seeing what
President Michigan Shores was in 1999 compared to today and it has grown! If you did not

Suzanne M. Eschel attend the Annual Meeting earlier this year it was communicated to the member-
Vice President ship that in the past few years $10M in capital has been invested and with $0 assess-
ments. I can tell you that is pretty unheard of in the club industry.
Matthew J. Revord

Kevin R. Lawler What was also communicated was our dues at MSC. Earlier this year we conducted
Treasurer a Competitive Market study and found that of 14 clubs in the survey, MSC has the
best value in membership. The average initiation was $35,000 (MSC $12,500) and the
Board of average monthly dues was $617 (MSC $286). In addition most all of the clubs had op-
Directors erating and/or capital assessments, and food minimums.

Cupping is an ancient Chinese method that involves applying
a silicone cup to create a partial vacuum by means of suction.
When the cup is left in place on the skin for a few minutes,
