Report from our President

January 2022

Happy New Year to all SCM members and friends,

With the start of a new year, we are optimistic that
2022 will exceed our expectations in every way. We look forward to floating
effortlessly down winding roads on our cruises taking in the beauty of nature
while taming the beast beneath our feet. We anticipate with great longing a
year of socialization with club members Well Acquainted and New. We
welcome all to our Car Shows, Hamburger Fries and Catch-Up, Track Events,
and our premiere event of autumn, The Fall Color Run. We especially look
forward to once again seeing the smiles of the children afflicted with Spina
Bifida as they seat themselves in a Corvette for what may well be for them
“A ride of a lifetime”. If you haven’t participated in this annual event,
please do. It will be the most rewarding thing you will ever do as a member
of Suburban Corvettes of Minnesota and we are so proud to be associated
with these kids, their parents and this great cause.

At the start of this new year, I would like club members to take note of our
sponsors who advertise in Bucket Sheets. We appreciate and depend on their
support and can best show our appreciation for that support by supporting their
business. If you yourself do not have a current need for their services, pointing
a friend their direction is another way we can support our advertisers.

The office of Vice President and office of Public Relations in our club remain
vacant. These positions need to be filled for the continued smooth operation
of our club. Please consider giving back to your club by volunteering for one
of these positions. Contact any board member or officer.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention our “snowbirds”. We miss you already
though for some, you have just recently departed yet we know it will be one,
two, three, four months before we gaze upon your browned faces again and
we feel sorry that you miss out on the winter wonderland which is Minnesota.

We wish you a Happy New Year with confidence and optimism that 2022
will be the best year ever.

CORVETTE PURCHASE
DUES REIMBURSEMENT

As part of our sponsorship agreement with Matt
Saxe Chevrolet any member that purchases a new
or pre-owned Corvette from the dealership would

be eligible for reimbursement of their dues. To
insure that we include everyone that made a

purchase during 2021 a list needs to be compiled
with the name, date purchased, mailing address,
and Corvette model. The club will send a recap of

those purchases to Matt Saxe Chevrolet with
the amount of dues paid. The dealership will send
checks to the individuals that qualify. Members
that have purchased a new or pre-owned Corvette
from Matt Saxe Chevrolet this year should send

the information to:

Agreed-Value Car Insurance

I found the discussion in the 2022 Buyers Guide of Corvette Magazine
regarding Agreed-Value Insurance to be interesting.

“None of us likes to think of our Corvette sustaining damage in a traffic
accident…” The article explained the basic types of coverage:

► “Liability insurance covers costs that you might be responsible for in case
of an accident and is usually mandatory.
► Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage provides recourse if you’re
hit by someone who doesn’t carry enough insurance…
► Collision and Comprehensive provisions, meanwhile, cover damage to
your Corvette when another driver is not at fault.

The most important factors in any insurance settlement are the insurance adjustor’s
estimates of both the value of the car and the amount of damage. They may have
difficulty appreciating the subtle differences in Corvettes and may opt for the
lowest common denominator in” assigning a value for the Corvette.

“In cases where the estimate to repair the damage exceeds the car’s value, as
determined by the adjustor, the car will be considered ‘totaled’. Unfortunately,
there’s a decent chance this amount will be less then the true market value of
your Corvette.”

Is there an alternative? “Agreed-Value Insurance is an agreement when the policy
is initiated as to the value of the insured vehicle. The figure is then included in the
calculation of the premium. The idea is to eliminate the valuation problems that can
occur when a car is somewhat unique.” This policy may also be named Stated-Value
Insurance. “Make sure that the policy language states, that in the event of a total loss,
you will recover the agreed or stated value in the policy.”

Why does this make a difference? The insurance company determines the value
based on comparable vehicles. With Corvettes, it may be difficult to find comparable
vehicles. “When purchasing Agreed-or Stated Value insurance, the insurance
company will probably require a review of the valuation once or twice a year.
This is extremely important, especially considering the recent and rapid escalation
of values in some older Corvettes.”

The article concludes stating that there are some companies that specialize in
Agreed-Value Insurance. Regardless, it may be worth reading the entire article
and starting a conversation with your Insurance Agent, before your next
renewal date.

CDC recommendations
According to current CDC recommendations “Everyone 2 years or older who is
not fully vaccinated should wear a mask in indoor public places”. Our Board has
discussed and recommends the wearing of masks by all members at our monthly
meetings until the current upswing of Covid subsides. This is a Board recom-
mendation only. The wearing or not wearing a mask remains a personal choice.
Ron Kabat, SCM President

Scheduling conflict
Please note due to a scheduling conflict we were not able to secure Tuesday,
June 21, 2022 for our club meeting at Jimmy's. As of now we have secured
Wednesday, June 22, 2022 for our June meeting. This will be discussed during
our January Board Meeting with a decision to stick with Wednesday, June 22,
2022 or look for a different date being decided at that time.
Thank you
Ron Kabat

Bucket Sheets Printer

We have been using a print shop near Ron Week’s home for almost two
and one half years to print the Bucket Sheets. The agreement with the owner
was that when we submitted our newsletter’s file by a Monday morning they
would provide a forty-eight hour turn around, having the books available by
the following Wednesday morning. We have not had an issue during the past
few years. The shop changed owners in July. The new owner stated he would
not offer two day turn around in the future.

Ron moved us to the above stated printer during his tenure as Editor. Ron had
difficulty during that move finding a print shop that would offer a two day turn
around. Since Ron does the mailing he looked for another printer who could
accommodate our needs.

Ron found a new printer that would allow the editor the chance to complete
the newsletter the weekend prior to the board meeting. This provides for
sending the file to the printer by the Sunday after the board meeting to
allow for the newsletter to get it out to the members prior to
the membership meeting.

Thanks goes out to Ron for all of his hard work and for his many years of
commitment to the Suburban Corvettes of Minnesota throughout his life
and his continued and deicated service to our club.

More Than 100 Corvettes Damaged In
KY Tornado To Be Crushed

Jan 6th, 2022
December brought destruction to much of Kentucky with storms and
tornados. The GM plant in Bowling Green sustained damage and the au-
tomaker is planning to crush the 120 C8 Corvettes deemed the “Tornado
C8s” that were damaged.
The storms put another dent in an already challenging time for GM when
it comes to production. Thanks to chip shortages and supply chain woes,
customers have been left waiting for their new Corvettes. Some of those
hopeful owners are now receiving calls from their local Chevy dealers
with news their vehicle was crushed and to re-submit their order.
And while there’s still a chip shortage in the industry, these vehicles will
not be parted out – even for chips. Hopefully, the number stays at 120 as
GM staff are still inspecting the remaining completed cars to make sure
they are good to be shipped.

by Paul Hauschildt to approve the minutes as published. The motion
passed. Jan thanked Lynn Steenblock for helping with the Secretary’s
transition.

Treasurer’s Report: Sandy Reibel reported. She thanked Barb Stattman for

while Mike and Judy are away.

● SCM Members: 185

● Lifetime Members: 86

● NCCC Members: 161

Marty and Mary Buck are now Lifetime Members. They were congratulated.
Mike called the names of those members who have not yet claimed their SCM
nametags. None were present at this meeting. There were also no First, Second,
or Third Timers attending this meeting.

Public Relations: (Open Position) Ron Kabat reported that Greg Stattman
will no longer advertise in the Bucket Sheets. A current advertiser
has expressed interest in having its ad on the inside cover.

Page 10

Editor’s Report: Steve Mael reported. He thanked Ron Weeks for help
with printing/mailing the newsletter each month.
● Deadline for articles next month is Jan 5, 2022.

IT Report: Steve Heasley reported.

● Calendar of Events is up to date on the website.
● Gallery is up to date on the website, but Steve is looking for additional

club in the region. Jim encouraged members to keep it that way,
and to continue support of NCCC.

Vice President’s Report: (Open Position) No report this month.

Old Business:
● GMCCA report - Eric Kehle. Eric described GMCCA - The General
Motors Car Club Association (12 GM car clubs in our region are
members). Each club has a representative, and those reps make up
the Board of Directors. The main function of GMCCA is to organize
and conduct the annual car show and swap meet at the Fairgrounds
in June of each year. The GMCCA show in 2021 incurred increased
costs and reduced attendance, due to pandemic concerns. We hope
2022 will be better (June 5, 2022). Eric said our annual club
assignment is to park swappers, and many members have helped
with that. Eric thanked our members, and said this year will be the
40th anniversary of the GMCCA show. There are usually more
Corvettes than any other GM mark. Last year we had 115 Corvettes
at the show. Eric is looking for feedback/suggestions for improvement.
This year they are thinking about a special display of pre-WWII
vehicles. Please let Eric know of anyone who might want to
show such a vehicle.

Page 11

Old Business: contiued
● Board Positions open – VP and Public Relations. Ron Kabat said each
Board position is vital, and explained the duties of the open positions.
The PR person contacts current advertisers, explores new advertisers,
and supports the mutual benefits of those relationships . The VP
coordinates events and oversees/reports them, and stands in for
the President at meetings if/when the President is absent. Ron
asked anyone interested in helping the Club in this way, to contact him.

New Business:
● Member at Large (MAL) Board appointments for 2022 are: Barb Stattman,
Lynn Steenblock, Ron Weeks, and Butch George.
● Ron Weeks said the business he usually works with for printing the
Bucket Sheets has changed hands, and is not able to guarantee
meeting our monthly deadlines. Ron found a different business
to help us, which is less expensive, and promises to meet our
schedule requirements. Ron was thanked for his efforts.
● Birthdays: Members with December birthdays were recognized:
Shawn Hanna and Peg Hauschildt.

Door prize drawing. $25 gift certificate to Applebees was won by Jan Hanna.

A motion to adjourn was made by Shawn Hanna and seconded by Larry Zmuda.

A motion to adjourn was made by Paul Hauschildt and seconded
