Report from our President

January 2021

Happy New Years everyone. I hope you had the Merriest
of Christmas and the Happiest of New Years.

Well, they often say “the best laid plans …”, and in
December 2020 I thought I had some plans. In the past,
I had driven the Corvette on Christmas day because the
weather was fair and streets were clean; and it was kind
of fun to say. Well, the weatherman didn’t cooperate this
last Christmas day as at the last minute it snowed. I like
most people drove a snowblower around on Christmas
Eve Day, digging out all the snow that fell and drifted up
around the house and garage. Oh well, maybe next year.

Here’s hoping 2021 will bring new opportunities to do
things as a club that we couldn’t do last year.

Be safe and looking forward to seeing everyone at
January’s virtual meeting.

2021 Club Events

Not knowing what 2021 will be like for our
activities I want to remind you that if any
normalcy returns we will need volunteers
to organize and run these events; HF&C’s,
Cruises, Car Shows, Fall Color Run, Annual

Banquet, etc.

I also want to inform you that at the
January Board Meeting the Board

committed to a 2021 Spring & Autumn
Cruise (as conditions allow). Last year,
thanks to Jim Bodin, the club was able
to have a great Autumn Cruise while

maintaining COVID-19 social
distancing requirements.

At a minimum, we look forward to a similar
experience for these two cruises.

If you are willing and able please keep this
in mind and consider helping.

Thank you!

SCM Hospitality Guidelines

Current Member Policy

• Send a get well/thinking of you card to members whenever it is
learned that they are dealing with an illness, surgery, etc.
If the recovery time is lengthy this may include requesting
other members of the club also send get well cards so that
we are providing additional support to the ill member.

• The Hospitality Committee needs to be sensitive to member
privacy. It is not the role of this position to make known
the specific details of member illnesses. Permission
should be sought from the ailing club member prior
to communicating to the entire club membership.

• Send a sympathy card to members whenever a family member
passes. Family members can be non-member spouses,
siblings, parents, children, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.

• Whenever we lose a member the following guidelines will apply:

o The cost of a memorial or flowers will be $60. If flowers

are sent in lieu of a memorial donation then $60

will be spent on the flowers plus the cost of tax

and delivery fees.

o Memorials when requested in the obituary will be the

first choice. Flowers will be sent when there is

no mention of a preferred memorial.

• The Hospitality Committee shall annually attend a Board
meeting to request a budget of $249 to be spent on cards,
postage, and memorials or flowers on an as needed basis.
If the committee runs out of money before the end of
the year they will need to request from the Board
an additional $249 budget.

Hospitality Guideline continued on next page

Hospitality Guideline continued from page 5

Members should notify the Hospitality Committee of any
circumstance that would require a card or memorial to be sent.
Hospitality can be notified by e-mail to [email protected].
Former Member Policy
• The Hospitality Coordinator if asked by a current member will
send out information via SCM email communication
program pertaining to former members.

NEW VETTE DUES REIMBURSEMENT

As part of our sponsorship agreement with
Matt Saxe Chevrolet any member that purchases
a new Corvette from the dealership would be eligible
for reimbursement of their dues. To insure that we
include everyone that made a purchase during 2020

a list needs to be compiled with the name,
date purchased, mailing address, and Corvette model.

The club will send a recap of those purchases to
Matt Saxe Chevrolet with the amount of dues paid.

The dealership will send checks to
the individuals that qualify.

Members that have purchased a new Corvette
from Matt Saxe Chevrolet this year should
send the information to:

C7 Corvette Z06 Shows Off

Worst Body Kit Mod Ever

By Keith Cornett -Jan 4, 2021

https://www.corvetteblogger.com/2021/01/04/pics-c7-corvette-z06-shows-off-worst-
body-kit-mod-ever/

We get that people love to mod their Corvettes, and
generally we are all for it as we like to refer to a stock
Corvette as a blank canvas in which the owner can cus-
tomize to their heart’s content. However, the friends
and family of the owner of this Baby Blue C7 Corvette
Z06 should have hosted an intervention because the
final outcome of this widebody project leaves a lot to be
desired.

Chevrolet didn’t offer baby blue on the C7, and I would
hazard a guess that the owner painted or wrapped the
car in that color after seeing rapid blue on a C8. Not
stopping there, the owner added a “liberty walk”-styled
widebody kit consisting of wider front and rear wheel
arches that were screwed into the existing body. The
body kit is also done in baby blue, but unfortunately, it’s
not quite the same shade as the existing color on the
car so the new panels stick out like a sore thumb.

The front fascia of the Z06 has also been changed to
that of a Ferrari F12 and a custom hood was added that
puts the heat-extraction vents at the very base of hood
near the windshield. Instead of the hot air being ex-
tracted in front of the engine, that hot air now flows
over the LT4’s supercharger before being expelled at
the rear of the motor. Not the greatest way to help a
sportscar with known cooling issues. That’s assuming of
course that the car did indeed began life as a Z06.

Page 8

Making the build even worse is the black panel gap
between the new wheel arches, as well as the gaps
around the front fascia and hood. We wonder if this

car had been wrecked and the owner decided to
reconstruct the car a bit differently (and watched
a video on youtube on how to do it themselves!).
Photos of this poor Z06 were first posted to the

Reddit forum called “Shitty Car Mods” and the
overall responses regarding the car are pretty
funny to read. One of the commenters found
the original details for the kit which is called

Chevrolet Corvette C7 Gran Veloce Series
Body Kit. As you can see from the photos,
the owner of the baby blue C7 Z06 totally

nailed it!
Not!

Treasurer Needed

As you received your election results for
SCM’s Officers you would have noticed
there was no candidate listed for the office
of Treasurer. With this past year being very
difficult and challenging for all of us, we

still need to focus on the successful
future of our club.

If anyone is willing to step up and take on
this challenge please contact an officer or

Board Member at Large.

SCM Presents - Meet Your Members:

Krysti Clayson

My father passed away in January 2018, and I was given his 1961

Corvette. During the last few months we have been cleaning out his
house and I have located the entire history of this car, since my dad
never got rid of anything. I now have the original documentation from
when the first owner purchased the car, the paperwork from when dad
transferred the title to his name and a photo album that had pictures of
the Corvette when it was still in the original owner’s driveway. The best
thing that I found however was this story that was written by my dad on
how he got the car:

In 1970 I was working at my dream job at Southview Chev in South St.
Paul as a parts man. I was the Corvette and high performance guy that
would not run away when you asked for something odd. I also got to roam
the part books and order anything I wanted which made it like Christmas
when cool things came in from GM.

I planned my vacation to California in May 1970 to coincide with the
delivery of my brand new 1970 Chevy Short box Pick Up (which by the way
I payed $2475.00). My trip to California was for two reasons: My brother
lives in San Diego and I was picking up a 1932 Ford Roadster body for
my growing collection of Model A’s– Disneyland and the sites were also on
the agenda. he trip was uneventful but was fun because in those days you
could drive 70-80 all day and it was a fine way to break in the truck.

Continued on Page 13

Page 12

Continued from Page 12

Anyway, with three days left before I had to start heading back to
Minnesota, I saw this blue 1961 Corvette driving by my brother’s
apartment, which of course I had to know more about. My brother who
owned a 1960 Corvette, told me that the ‘61 was just up the street. I went
to look for the ‘61 and found it parked in a driveway. I went to the door
and a lady answered and asked what I wanted. I told her that I wanted
to buy her car and she said it was not for sale. I left and came back the
next day and did the same thing, and then I came back the following and
got serious because I had to leave the next morning. She was the original
owner and told me her Daddy bought it for her when she graduated from
college, I thought that was fine, but how much? She called her Daddy
and he said if she wanted to sell it go ahead but the price was 1400.00.
I told her no, and paid her $1075.00 and drove the car away. I think she
still might be in shock.

I had to rent a tow bar to get it home and the funny thing on the
way home , the truck that cruised at 70 to 80 was now cruising
80-90 and 100 in Utah, man those Corvettes are fast.

The 61 has been in the St Croix Valley Corvette Association since
the club started. It has raced around cones at Minnesota drag
ways, on the street it has chased, caught, passed on the left, right
and through the middle most corvettes in the club, and I was just
along for the ride. The ‘61 is retired now and only comes out
twice a year. If you ever see it parked stop and say hi, I think it is
the 2nd oldest Corvette in our club, and believe me the ‘61 needs
a well deserved pat on the back along with it’s owner.

I have also attached some photos of when
he got the car in 1970, some pictures of
the Corvette he took in 1985 on our front
lawn and recent pictures now that the
Corvette has been brought back to life.

Already behind last year’s schedule.

o Talk to Matt Saxe about possibly hosting
