Report from our President

July 2021

Well, another month has past and some things appear to
be getting back to normal, not so much in other areas. I
had a chance to go to both the GMCCA car show along
with the Back to the 50’s car show. I’ve missed going
to car shows and these helped make up for the missed
shows. I haven’t been walking as much as I used to in the
past and these two shows helped make up those steps I
hadn’t been doing.

Club events look to be getting closer to where they
should be. Cars Under the Stars is a go as is the Fall
Color Run to name a few along with more in the plan-
ning. I hope everyone plans to attend our club events and
support our club. These events are one more way we can
support our club and the charity work that we contribute
to. It’s another opportunity to get together as a group and
enjoy each other’s company. Attend a show, go on one of
the cruises, attend the club meetings, we need to get out
there while the weather permits and enjoy what we can.

Special Message from President Paul Hauschildt

It has come to my attention that we are causing confusion and extra work when
it comes to submitting information for publication. In an attempt to eliminate
some of these issues I’m putting forward the following to hopefully make it
easier and more accurate in the future.
We need a single point of contact for each source to be published and here’s
the list that has come up and I have supplemented. This applies both to the
publishing in Bucket Sheets and Online as applicable.
For Bucket Sheets and Online as applicable, applicable source and submitter
to the Editor and IT for inclusion:
The Vice President will be responsible as the source for all upcoming events.
Any changes, updates or additions should be funneled through the VP.
Membership will be responsible for any items relating to the general
membership including any information provided by Hospitality. Any
applicable items should be funneled through Membership.
The Secretary is responsible for the minutes from both the board and general
membership meetings. Any identified changes/updates/corrections should be
funneled through the Secretary who in turn will submit them to the Editor.
As there is usually questions or updates to the minutes, it may be worth
holding them for a day or two to allow for all corrections to be submitted
to the secretary prior to submission.
Public Relations is responsible for information relating to advertisers and
suitable items relating to the PR duties. Any updates should be funneled
through PR.
The Governor should not have a need to submit anything to either the Editor
or PR as any relevant items should be included in the respective minutes.
The Treasurer should not have to submit anything to the editor as all
applicable info should already be included in the minutes.
The Editor will submit to Information Technology the electronic version of
the Bucket Sheets for inclusion to the website.
Things like event photos, new member photos and comparable should be
cleared with the respective person and submitted as requested to the Editor
and Information Technology.
Wheelin’ and Dealin’ items can be directly submitted to the Editor for
inclusion in Bucket Sheets.
Anything that comes up that is uncertain who should deal with it, submit it
to the President who will then become the intermediary for that item.
I am not suggesting that we not submit things like the minutes to the board
for review prior to publishing. Rather I am suggesting any review and
subsequent changes first go through the owner of the item (e.g., Secretary)
who will them submit the final version to the Editor.
Hopefully this will help streamline our process and simplify the overall
information process.

Firecracker Cruise Recap

We had 46 people in 25 cars join us for the 2021 Firecracker Cruise held on
June 27th. Although the day was overcast and threatening rain, we were able
to avoid most of it – but not all.
We spent time traveling the backroads of Dakota, Goodhue and Wabasha
Counties as well as Western Wisconsin. We passed through Prescott, Red
Wing and Lake City before landing at Lark Toys in Kellogg. We enjoyed a
picnic lunch, a bit of toy shopping and admiring the carved wooden carousel
which is operational. There were new, antique, and handcrafted wooden toys
to catch anyone’s fancy.
After lunch we took more scenic roads back through Lake City – where we
ran into a parade! The police allowed us to cross the parade between other
Corvettes – creating two Corvette parades at one intersection! Traveling on,
we came through Red Wing and took a surprise side trip through Memorial
Park for a very scenic (and high) overlook of most of Red Wing.
We ended the cruise outside of Prescott at Valley Bar and Grill for refreshments.
In all, we covered about 165 miles. We hope everyone who participated had a
good time and enjoyed the views supplied by Mother Nature.
We were happy that you joined us.

Hello ALL!! Dave Anderson and I have been working on
additional entertainment for the CUS Show this August 7th.

We have finalized that “Speedway Racing Systems
“Radio Remote Controlled Stock Car racing will be there
at the show!!! The total cost of this event (6- cars, complete
oval track, Pit Crew, 6- steering wheel control stations) will
be $1,200.00 , this will be divided as follows: Matt Saxes
$600.00, SCM $300.00, Ann and Paul Capeder $300.00. The
plan is to NOT charge the participants for this entertainment,

but to put out a “Donation Bucket” this was also approved
by Greg Simon @ Matt Saxe. We can use the bucket money to
either go direct to Spina Biffida or to the overall profit of the
event and take out the required percentage to go to the Charity.

Please go to: speedwayracingsystems.com to see what this is
all about. Spread the word at other car show and perhaps get
a link on our club web site to this attraction. We will either
fund the total amount, or ask for the total from the club and get
Matt Saxes and ourselves to pay the club balance when need
be. Thank you all.

Paul Capender

— Treasurer Needed —

As you received your election results for SCM’s Officers you would have
noticed there was no candidate listed for the office of Treasurer. With this
past year being very difficult and challenging for all of us, we still need to

focus on the successfulfuture of our club.

If anyone is willing to step up and take on this challenge
please contact an officer or Board Member at Large.

https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/genovations-gxe-is-an-800hp-electric-
corvette-with-a-manual-transmission/

Genovation’s GXE is an electric Corvette
with 800 hp and a stick shift

Finally, a proper electric sports car.

Building a car from scratch is complicated, to say the least. When Tesla first

started it worked off a Lotus chassis to develop the Roadster and now
Maryland-based Genovation is taking the same route. At CES the company
showed off the GXE, a Corvette Grand Sport with twin electric motors stuffed
under the hood.
An all-electric Corvette is pretty cool in its own right, but Genovation is going
one step further, offering a seven-speed manual transmission in the GXE.
The Tesla uses a single-speed reduction gearbox, which offers incredible ac-
celeration but doesn’t do much for top speed. Keeping the manual gearbox, or
the available eight-speed automatic, allows for both quick acceleration and fast
speed. The company claims a sub-3-second 0-60 mph time and a top speed of
220 miles per hour. We’ll be sure to test these claims if we get a test drive.

Twin electric motors are stuffed under the hood, producing 800 horsepower
at the wheels and 700 pound-feet of torque. Five battery packs are good for
61.6kWh of storage of go-go juice, enough for a range of 175 miles. Unless,
of course, you drive with a rock on your right foot, which will lower the range
significantly.

Page 21

This 800hp electric Corvette has a manual transmission

Although the Grand Sport is available with GM’s stellar magnetic ride control,
Genovation decided to go with a third-party suspension that drivers can
program to fit their favorite tracks like Laguna Seca or Road America.

The interior of the GXE is all alcantara, all the time. Every visible panel is
wrapped, if not
quilted, in the stuff.
Each car is bespoke,
with customers
naming their own
unique color.

You’ll need to be one
of the 1% to buy a
GXE, however.
Genovation will only
make 75 of the GXE
electric monsters, at
a price of $750,000.
