Report from our President
July 2020
This certainly has been an eye-opening
year. June was a first as far as I know,
an on-line meeting for the club member-
ship was held for the general membership. Seeing so many people
using Zoom was an amazing experience for me. We have such a
wide range of experience here with how much members doing on-
line things, quite frankly I expected many more issues than we had
and those we had seemed to be very minor in nature. I want to
thank everyone involved here in pulling off the online meeting and
especially Sandi Scott for setting up and administering the session.
I would also like to thank those members that attended the online
meeting, we need your participation to be able to conduct club
business and this is one way to make it happen. This coronavirus
has sure messed up so many things this year but online meetings is
one way we can get around some of those issues.
I expect we will be doing online meetings for the foreseeable
future due to social quarantining but we’ve already proven it can
be done. We will be able to do the things we need to do yet keep
everyone safe. I wish I knew how long this will be required but
unfortunately, I have no idea. All we can do is make the best of a
bad situation and forge ahead and see what happens.
We had a quarantine cruise on 6/27. The wife had just had surgery
before the cruise so I brought my granddaughter along instead.
This is the same one that when she was in kindergarten would
sneak out and ‘drive’ the Vette, along with making motor noises.
Unfortunately, we had to pull out before the cruise was done due
to the car acting up, but she enjoyed what we experienced.

BIR Driver’s School and Track Day
Summary
June 22, 2020
With all the changes and requirements necessary for people to follow
due to the Covid-19 pandemic we were very fortunate to have had
beautiful weather for the June Drivers School and Track Day at
Brainerd International
Raceway.
It turns out the SCM
Board made a good deci-
sion to move ahead with
the School at the board
meeting in May. Once
David Scherf and I got
the bit between our teeth
we forged ahead. Thanks
to Ron Weeks for his
help with the mail in hard
copies of the flyer and to
Roger Dahlquist for his
help with the event email
blasts.
We had 29 entrants, which put us into a profit situation, which is
very good considering. We had 6 Novices, 9 Intermediate and 14 Ad-
vanced drivers at the school. Each individual Novice had an instruc-
tor and I interviewed each Novice and they were very impressed
with our instructors. I interviewed all of the instructors and like-
wise, they were impressed with the students. All good interviews.
The day went smoothly, with the classroom duties attended to by
yours truly. The braking exercises and car control clinic handled
nicely by Jon Thompson and Janet Hanna.
For excitement we had a 1967 Corvette Coupe blow it’s pinion seal
and spray oil on the track, make a huge cloud of smoke as the oil hit
the hot exhaust and more smoke as the car was doused with an ever
present fire extinguisher in the pits! Once the professionals from
BIR helped clean up the track we were back to running laps.
Page 6
I’d like to thank our instructors: John Boos; Ron Marks; Rick Ohland;
David Scherf and yours truly. Thank you to Greg Marnach for sub-
bing for me while I helped a driver who spun out get back running.
I’d also like to thank our corner workers and marshals: Ron Reidell;
Larry Zimuda; John Engstrom; Eric Kehle; Ron Weeks; Barb Price;
Pam Ellingson; Russ and Pat Mittelstaedt; Dick and Sharolyn Jacob-
son.
Our check in went
very smoothly thanks
to Sandy Norgaard,
Janet Hanna and Lori
Marnach.
After a great day we
were all pretty happy
and tired campers.
So many thanked me
for making it so much
fun to get out and run their cars. Very gratifying.
Looking forward to doing it again in September.
Shawn Hanna, Co-Chair 2020 BIR Drivers School and Track Day
(NCCC Approved)

The 2020 Firecracker Cruise was held on Saturday June 27th.
It was a beautiful warm sunny day. We had 40 cars with 71 par-
ticipants. This was our first event of the year due to dealing with
the Coronavirus Pandemic. It felt good to get our Corvettes out
and see good friends for the first time in months.
The cruise was a shortened version and got off to a good start.
But around
mile 27 in Af-
ton the Fire-
cracker blew
up! Our left
turn lane and
intersection
were, at some
point, blocked
by oncoming
traffic waiting
to gain ac-
cess to a boat

launch. Hopefully most were able to recover and finish the
cruise. If there is interest we would be glad to re-run the cruise
later this summer.
Thanks for cruising with us! Stay safe.

changed from Sept 19 to Sept 26. It will be a 70 to 80 mile cruise with

due to Coronavirus. See the Vice President’s calendar for a full list of both
club sponsored and non-club sponsored events in the Bucket Sheets or visit the
Website.
Old Business:
● Jim reported that there has been a practice photo shoot of a few cars and all
went well so should be good for the July 23rd scheduled picture.
● Pat Bodin reported that she has talked with Keller Golf Course and we must
use the $650 deposit money related to the 50th Anniversary event or lose
it. They are flexible in scheduling a luncheon or brunch for 30 – 40 people
if that is what we want. It was suggested that we try to utilize the deposit
money for appetizers after the Autumn Cruise on September 26th. Pat will
follow up with Keller Golf Course to schedule.
○ As previously noted in the June Board meeting minutes members
will need to pay so that the deposit money can go back into the
SCM treasury.
New Business:
● Joan and Terry Wigginton reported on the Fall Color Run. They are expect-
ing social distancing to be very difficult for this event and they would need
to limit the number of participants if they try to go forward with it.
○ Barb Stattman made a motion to cancel the Fall Color Run with a
second by Marie George. The motion passed with one opposing
vote.
○ 2020 was to be the last year for Joan and Terry to chair the Fall
Color Run. No provisions have been made to go forward with this
event. SCM will need new chairs and new contracts to be set up
with the hotel so we don’t lose our venue location. Terry and Joan
have volunteered to assist the new chair people during their first
year.
Page 20
● Paul Hauschildt brought up the fact that SCM’s Facebook page has not been
updated in a year. Dave Benner reported that right now we don’t have an
access password. This was previously discussed during his prior term as
President and we were unable to gain access. Steve Heasley said that he
believes that there is a way to update pages using Facebook software. He
will look into it to see if he can update SCM’s page.
● Paul Hauschildt brought up discussion as to when we should be able to
resume physical membership meetings. He will talk to Jimmy’s to deter-
mine what they are expecting from us and what provisions they will have in
place for social distancing if we have a meeting in August. For now we will
plan to have a Zoom meeting in July. Gloria Weeks brought up the need for
us to encourage member participation in these meetings. We just barely met
quorum for the June meeting. We need to meet quorum numbers in order to
hold a meeting and do business as a club.
A motion to adjourn was made by Ron Weeks with a second by Dave Benner.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15pm.

sion due to COVID 19. Dave has sent another renewal request to the
other advertiser.
● Dave contacted Matt Saxe to determine if they wanted us to do a car
show per SCM’s contract with them. Matt Saxe does not want to host
a car show this year due to all of the unknowns associated with the
Coronavirus.
Page 22
Editor’s Report: Ron Weeks reported
● Ron announced he is changing the deadline for event articles and flyers
to the board meeting date effective with the July issue. This will give
him additional time to complete the bucket sheets layout.
● The inside covers of Bucket sheets were done in color this month.
This was an error made by the printer and the ads will return to black
and white next month.
● There was a discussion around the clarity of the front Bucket Sheets
cover. Dave Olson will check to see if he can obtain a high resolution
copy of the picture used as well as for the logos. Ron explained that it
is cheaper to order six months of covers than to print them each month.
Ron will check with the printer to see if they have printed the covers
yet. If not he will request a hold on the printing while Dave checks on
the high resolution pictures needed for the Bucket Sheets cover.

prior to the photo shoot. Jim would like to have at least 35 cars and
can accommodate more. No need to sign up – just show up.
● Jim Bodin reported that the Special Interest rear license plate will not
make it to session this year. Lynn Steenblock further reported that they
are working on backup work and looking at what will be needed going
forward.
