Report from our President

Hi folks,

This year’s driving season is winding down and
there are a few items I need to share. November is
the end of our financial year and I plan to present a
financial summary at our November 19th member-
ship meeting. At the conclusion of the financial presentation, we will vote on the
pending membership dues increase. In addition to this budget presentation, it is
also the meeting where we elect our club officers for the 2019 season. We have a
nomination committee that is amassing a list of interested members who would
like to be on the board. I strongly encourage anyone that has thought about
seeking a board position to contact Lynn Steenblock or Marty Buck. This is a
great opportunity to engage with other members, make a difference, and ensure
the success of our club.

Next year is our club’s 50th anniversary and is a very significant event for us. We
need to make this special and demonstrate just how unique we are. Our “50th
Anniversary Bash” is at the idea stage and I would like to form a committee to
make this happen. We need a committee chairperson and committee members.
Some of the attainable goals are to have a summer weekend devoted to the
event, have a club picture with an article for submission to the NCCC Blue Bars
magazine and the National Corvette Museum. The list goes on… This event
could be a blockbuster so if you’re interested in steering this event let me know.

Don’t forget, the Fall Color Run isn’t our last get together for the season, we
have our awards banquet and typically have a Hamburger, Fries, and Catch-up
every month. So, during the off-season get out of the house, keep up with your
friends, and stay in touch with your Corvette family.

See you at our events,

Dave Benner

This restaurant is a little bit further northwest than most
of our dinner spots, but well worth the effort! It is near
the intersection of 394 and Hwy 100, off Park Place/Xe-
nia Ave. The building says “Metropolitan” on the west side
(club and ballroom), and the restaurant is on the south
side, with a bright yellow awning. We will have a section to
ourselves, and can order off the full menu with separate
checks, as usual. Millie is the head cook, and she makes
“serious” homemade soups, in addition to cleverly named
signature items such as “Worst Day Wings”, which are de-
scribed as “looking like hell but tasting like heaven”, or the
“Good Day Burger”, or “Millie’s Meatloaf Dinner”, or “OT’s
Sautéed Liver with Caramelized Onions and Thick Smoked
Bacon”. There is a full range of dishes, including vegetar-
ian options, such as a veggie sandwich, 10 different salads,
5 noodle dishes, and all day breakfast items like Paulie’s
Veggie Quiche. YUUUMMM!!!!!!

The annual election of Suburban Corvette Club (SCM) Officers for the
coming year will occur with nominations at the October meeting and

elections at the November meeting.

Being an Officer or Board Member of SCM gives you an opportunity to shape
the future of the club. Please consider running for one of the offices: President,
Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations, NCCC Governor,
Membership, Editor, or Information Technology.

All offices are open and the term is for one year.

If running for one of the offices isn’t an option for you this year; the 2020 Board
will also need Members-at-Large. Being a Board Member-at-large is a great
opportunity for new members and long term members alike to add value to the
Club. Board Members at large will be selected at the December Board meeting.

Contact Lynn Steenblock ([email protected]) or Marty Buck
([email protected]) to have your name added to the ballot or volunteer
for one of the Member-at-Large positions.

Eligibility for Office

Nominee must have been a full/associate member for at least twelve (12) months
prior to the nominations. Nominees must be present at the nominations meeting
unless they have given an officer an acceptable excuse and acceptance of the
nomination.

Board of Directors

Members at large are appointed at the December Board meeting. Appointees
must have a minimum of three months active membership in the Club.

Complete detail information on the Duties of
Elected Officers will be available at the General
Meeting to review for the nominations process.

Spina Bifida Picnic 2019

On September 22, 2019 the Spina Bifida (SB) annual picnic was held at New
Brighton Pavilion just off Highway 35W north of 694. Spina Bifida is Subur-
ban’s (SCM) club charity and has been for close to 3 decades. I feel fortunate to
be the current SB liaison for SCM.
The picnic began at around 11:00 am. SB provided us with a nice lunch of
hamburgers, chips, hot dogs, baked beans, pop, water and many, many deserts.
Yum, love those deserts.
Various kid’s prizes, donated by SCM, were distributed by Jim Thayer to the
families at the picnic. Ball caps, courtesy of Paul Hauschildt, were also given
out. We also had Mylar helium balloons to celebrate the picnic. Did you know
that SB children are intolerant to Latex?
Approximately 17 Corvettes arrived before Noon and parked in two rows adja-
cent to the pavilion. This amount of cars was a wonderful signal to the kids and
parents that SCM cares about them.
The kid’s
faces lit up
with antic-
ipation at
getting rides
in America’s
Sports Car. It
has been my
experience
that the kids
are becoming
much more
comfortable
with riding in
the Corvettes and have pretty much overcome any fear. Actually, just the oppo-
site. We had 17 cars yet we provided over 40 rides. Can you say, “I’m going in
the red one next!!”? We had booster seats for the smaller kids.

I know the kids and their
parents were very grateful
for the opportunity to ride
in America’s Sports Car
because many of the kids
and parents took the time to
personally tell me this.
Myself, I am very thankful
to be doing this and asso-
ciated with SB and SCM
for 29 years. I have many,
many fond memories of our
