Project Summary: Request for funds to replace the Freezer used to store Friendship Meal Program Frozen
Meals.
Use of Funds: Purchased Freezer from Cole’s appliance as estimated and have been using it to store the
frozen meals.
Impact & Results: This Grant has allowed us to better serve the Shut-ins and Disabled members of our
community through supply of lost to no-cost Nutritious meals.

USD 109, East Elementary STEM and Robotics

Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, $5,500, Awarded
05/02/2019
Project Summary: Support in purchasing multiple robots, coding and
STEM items. We need these resources because teaching robotics in the
classroom can create a sense of community within the classroom that
expands to the outside community in which we live.
Use of Funds: We used the funds to purchase two remote control
machine kits, Legos, an OSMO coding classroom kit, code-and-
go robot mouse sets, an NWA3D printer, code-a-pillars, Jimu
Robots, OSMO coding bases and games, a KIBO robot set, and
Wonderworkshop robots.
Impact & Results: This grant allowed us to start a STEM program at
East Elementary. This classroom soon became a student and East
Elementary favorite. All students in grades kindergarten through fifth
grade are learning coding, robotics, and STEM. Students are able to understand computer programming,
work on problem-solving skills, and collaboration while solving real-world problems. Students are able to
learn with hands-on experience. Students are improving their STEM skills while working on group projects
and exploring the design process. East students now have the ability to participate in learning communities
that have maximized their potential in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

USD 109, WeatherSTEM 2018-2019

Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, $1,600, Awarded 10/18/2018
Project Summary: Earth Networks had updated its curriculum to the new WeatherSTEM, which replaces
the WeatherBug Achieve we originally had. These funds would help provide for the upgrade to the new
educational system.
Use of Funds: Upkeep of WeatherSTEM system
Impact & Results: WeatherSTEM continues to be utilized by the school and general public in many different
formats and for a variety of means. Weather updates, lightning strikes and how close the lightning is, rainfall
amounts, radar, and general weather data have all been constantly accessed. The swimming pool and other
outdoor functions use the lightning meter to determine how close lightning is and if/when events need to be
postponed for a short while until the weather improves. Science classes have, and continue to use, the vast
array of available weather data in a multitude of ways throughout the school year. Examples include creating
datasets, graphs/charts, weather predictions, and comparing weather data with in-person observations.
Without this funding, the project would not be able to continue because it allows for the continued upkeep
of the system. This system has, and will continue to, benefit not only the district at a PreK-12 level, but also
the entire community as a whole and serves to continue fostering positive relations between the two.
