FY20 Cloud County Annual Report Final Export

01 | Annual Report 2020

Our Mission

is to help people invest in meaningful ways to
make a difference in the community by building
permanent endowment funds and meeting
charitable community needs.

DIRECTOR'S LETTER

Cloud County, your strength and commitment to a better Cloud
County community astounds me. As we conclude our 18th year in
October 2020, the Community Foundation for Cloud County
(CFCC) is pleased to recognize the establishment of three new
funds in the CFCC. These include two designated funds, the
American Legion Avenue of Flags Fund, and the Dana J. Nelson
Memorial Scholarship Fund and a provisional fund, the Full Court
Press for Progress Fund.

In fiscal year ending June 30, 2020, (the COVID-19 Year) over
$510,000 of new monies have been invested in the CFCC.
This community’s investment in the 67 funds in the foundation as
of June 30, 2020 totaled over $8,445,000. Forty-eight of the
existing funds received additional contributions during the year.

Your past investments in the CFCC provided us the opportunity to
make annual charitable contributions from 56 funds totaling over
$500,000 to Cloud County charitable efforts and nonprofits, once
again. These grants included 16 special procedure COVID-19
grants to County charities totaling over $61,950.

Whatever your passion, we’ll help you connect your gifts with
what our community needs. And that starts with YOU. Check out
how your passion creates impact today and transforms tomorrow
through the Community Foundation for Cloud County.

Thanks to all of the contributors, fund holders, grant applicants,
board members and all who support our foundation’s mission to
connect your gifts to our community needs.

THANK YOU!

Robert L. Steimel
Executive Director

NEW AG FACILITY FOR
CLOUD COUNTY CC

The Cloud County Community College (CCCC) Agriculture Facility
began as a small 20' x 30' pole shed. As the program has grown, so
have the needs and possibilities for what a bigger facility could offer
for the program. The Community Foundation for Cloud County in
collaboration with other community entities awarded the program
funding for a new facility. This new 80' x 100' building will help
CCCC meet the needs of its growing agriculture program,
providing space for the precision ag equipment and livestock as
well as allow for community and business outreach opportunities.

“We are building a space with the potential to be so much more,
and meet the needs of not only the college, but the community,”
said grantee Heather Gennette. “We envision events and shows of
all kinds that people from all over can attend.” This new space will
provide an indoor environment for students to experience hands-
on learning through the college's agriculture program, a space for
local high school and youth programs and enhance enrichment
opportunities for local business and the community.

TOUCH-A-TRUCK
WITH BROADWAY

In September of 2019, The Broadway Plaza hosted a new event
called Touch-A-Truck. The committee collaborated with local
businesses to provide unique specialty equipment for all ages to
touch, climb in and learn about. One goal of this event was also to
entice a love of reading for kids by offering a free book to the first
50 families that attended the event. With the support of a grant
from the community foundation, the first 50 families received a
special Usborne book, "Big Book of Big Trucks."

"I am blown away by how successful the event was," said grantee
Stacey Smith. "With the funding that we received for the books, it
encouraged many members of the community to show up early.

CONCORDIA "QUARANTEAM"

While most activities look a little different during these times, bringing a "norm" to youth also brings a positive
impact to the community. With losing spring baseball, Coach Brandt Hutchison and contributing community
members saw a need to bring summer baseball back to Concordia and area youth.
The Community Foundation for Cloud County awarded funds to make this a reality. Funds were used for
insurance, umpires and baseball supplies. "It was a great opportunity for our young men to play games at
home. We had great attendance where parents, grandparents, friends, and community members came out to
watch the boys play a sport they didn't get the opportunity to play in the spring," said grantee Amy Lange.
This funding made it possible for youth to remain active while being able to be around friends and coaches,
who are all a part of a support system. "Without funding from the community foundation, we wouldn't have
been able to play because the team didn't have a sponsor," said Lange.

DOWNTOWN
SOUNDS

With the revitalization of the 6th Street buildings in downtown
Concordia, the wired speaker system was cut in multiple places and no
longer in use. The Community Foundation for Cloud County supported
the community improvement with a grant that assisted in purchasing
and installing a new wireless speaker system. The new system consists of
20 speakers that cover a 4-block span of Concordia's business district.
The speakers offer live streaming of audio for ambient background
music, seasonal music, festivals and parades.

During concerts or movies at Concordia’s Broadway Plaza, the Mobile
Master transmitter can be relocated to the site and connect to the
equipment to send a live feed downtown, potentially attracting patrons
to the plaza. "This was a wonderful project that gave new life to
downtown Concordia. It also inspired others in the community to give to
the project, and we cannot thank you enough for giving us the boost we
needed to get this project done," said grantee Heather Gennette.

LIFETIME HUNTING
AND FISHING

To encourage youth to spend time outdoors and understand the
importance for habitat conservation, Cloud County Ducks Unlimited
gives away one lifetime hunting and finishing license to a greenwing
attendee at their annual conservation banquet. The Community
Foundation for Cloud County was able to support the organizations
mission, by sponsoring one of the licenses. Cade Anderson was the 2019
attending greenwing member awarded with the license. This allows
Cade to hunt or fish in Kansas throughout his lifetime, even if he no
longer resides in Kansas. "You can always tell how excited the winners of
these licenses are by their huge smiles and beaming faces," said grantee
Joshua Meyer.
