Hanover Hospital, Connectivity in Long Term Care

Hanover Community Fund, $1,046.59, Awarded 4/17/2020

Project Summary: Increasing the connectivity of residents to friends and
families, by integrating new technology into their lives. This new technology will
be a 6th generation iPad and a 43in smart tv for the dining room.

Use of Funds: The grant funds were used to purchase a television, two 7th
Generation iPad’s and two cases for the iPad’s.

Impact & Results: We used this grant money to help our long-term care
residents communicate with their family members during the COVID-19
pandemic. Since visitors are not allowed during this time, the iPad’s provided a
visual tool for communication. The residents were able to Skype, Zoom or Face
time with their family members. This has brought them so much joy in a time
where they do not always understand what is occurring in the world around
them or wondering how come their loved ones are not visiting. Being able to
“see” their family has helped boost their mood resulting in positive behavior and
attitude changes.

Without the help of the Washington County Community Foundation, this
would not have been possible. Healthcare facilities are facing financial issues
due to the COVID-19 pandemic and this allowed us to worry about one less
thing when it comes to taking care of our long-term care residents.

USD 223,
The Social and Emotional Well Being of Early Childhood Students

Kansas Health Foundation Fund, $1,401.04, Awarded 10/18/2018

Project Summary: Using a social/emotional content created curriculum, the staff at
USD 223 Barnes TLEC Preschool will strive to encourage and enhance the social and
emotional well being of all young learners.

Use of Funds: Grant funds were spent on materials to use within early childhood
classrooms to help the social/emotional well being of students.

Impact & Results: In the spring of 2019, the USD 223 Twin Lakes Educational
Cooperative preschool teacher sent ASQ-SE questionnaires to parents requesting
information about their child’s social/emotional well being. Based on the
documentation results, students were placed in small and large group activities to
work on skills relating to their social skills. Throughout the 2019 - 2020 school year,
the materials continued to be used daily. Whether the teacher was introducing
a lesson pertaining to how we treat others, the children were working on puzzles
with faces of children showing different emotions, small groups of students playing
games learning about our emotions or books being read to help children relate
to how they may feel, these materials helped reach a large population in a short
amount of time.

In the month of October 2020, four out of five early childhood lead teachers met to
discuss student development and ways to improve social skills in their classrooms.
At that time, it was decided that the materials would be shared, and teachers would
contact each other when specific materials were needed. The materials are housed
at the USD 223 Twin Lakes Preschool and may be checked out by individual teachers to be utilized within all early
childhood classrooms in Washington County. During this period, there were four teachers and over 75 children in
four early childhood classrooms able to access and utilize materials to help develop positive social skills.

City of Washington, EMS/Fire Education Equipment

Washington County Opportunity Fund, $600.99, Awarded 4/17/2020

Project Summary: 65” smart TV with wall mount and DVD player to be used for
EMS and fire department educational offerings and opportunities.

Use of Funds: To purchase a 65” smart TV, wall mount, and DVD player.

Impact & Results: The emergency services agencies, Washington EMS and
Washington Fire, will now be able to incorporate multiple online and multimedia platforms into their training,
enabling them to update some of their education and skills locally. The upgrades will have a tremendous benefit to
the population we serve, just over 3,000 people, in our community.
