Personal Belief
I believe that every student has the right to an appropriate education. I understand that all
students do not learn in the same way. I want to create a learning space that reaches all
learners not just one type student. I plan to use a variety of teaching methods in order to
help all students learn to the best of their abilities. I plan to provide examples in the
classroom that are both visual and auditory. I also know that some students do best when
they discover the information for themselves while other students learn best while listening
to instruction.
Communities In Schools of the Lehigh Valley
Instilled and adopted beliefs:
Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
Our five basics:
1. A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult.
2. A safe place to learn and grow.
3. A healthy start and a healthy future.
4. A marketable skill to use upon graduation.
5. A chance to give back to peers and community.

Allentown, Pennsylvania
I have the great privilege in working with over 153 students and 16 staff to provide free, quality after
school and summer programing that include homework help, academic support, STEAM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) enrichment activities, social and emotional learning, heath and
nutrition, service learning opportunities, field trips, meals and transportation.

● Lehigh Valley Zoo volunteer hours and Trexler Game Preserve- A small group of students have the
opportunity to volunteer at the zoo for four hours. Volunteer opportunities include helping young zoo
visitors complete arts and crafts activities. After the zoo, students choose to go for a hike or learn
about creatures that live in the creek at Trexler Game Preserve.
● Helping students move from F’s in the fall to A’s and B’s in the spring.

● Developing meaningful one on one relationships with each student so each child feels a sense of
belonging and purpose.
● Creating memories and positive experiences that will last a lifetime.

Doctoral Research
Purpose of Research
The purpose of this research is to examine the impact of SEL on adults and how it
relates to students development of their own SEL skills. Students look to the
adults in their lives as role models on how to process their emotions and social
cues while many of the adults in their lives do not have a full understanding of their
own social and emotional skills. This study intends to determine if there is a
correlation between adult receptiveness and practice of SEL skills and how
receptive students are toward SEL.
Research Questions
1. What are the best practices for providing SEL development to middle school and high
school parents and staff.
2. What resources and trainings are currently available to train adults in SEL?
3. How do adult (parent and staff) attitudes towards SEL affect the outcome of students’
SEL?

Words That Put My Life In Perspective
“If they say,
Who cares if one more light goes out?
In a sky of a million stars,
It flickers, flickers,
Who cares when someone's time runs
out?
If a moment is all we are,
We're quicker, quicker
Who cares if one more light goes out?
Well I do.”
