Event Descriptions (9 & 18-Hole)

Ringers:   A Ringer Score could be known as the “Ultimate Round” played over the golf league season!  Each

member of the 9 and the 18-Hole Leagues has their name listed on the Ringer Forms posted on the ladies’ golf
bulletin boards located in the locker room.  The member’s first round of league golf scores are written in
pencil as the baseline score.  As additional rounds are played throughout the season and the league member
plays a hole in fewer strokes than previously recorded, the higher score is erased and the lower score is
recorded hole by hole. This is known as a “ringer.”  The member must have one of their playing group post the
ringer scores to verify the score.  If a member plays on the assigned league day but not at the scheduled
league time, they may post a ringer if they play with another league member who can verify the score.  At the
end of the golf season, the Ringer Chair totals the last ringer scores and identifies winners based on the
lowest gross score in A, B, and C flights.

Event Descriptions (18-Hole)

Summer-Long “Partners’ Event:”   This tournament is a bracketed best ball partner tournament.  You may

choose your partner or The Golf Shop will help pair you.  Once the entry deadline has closed, a random draw
is used to set the brackets.  On the “tree diagram” used, you will see deadlines for each match to be played.
Matches are played off the lowest handicap.  Match play is played by holes.  A hole is won by the side that
finishes with fewer strokes.  The score is kept by the terms:  number of “holes up” or “all square”, and so many
“to play”.  For example, please refer to the 9-hole match between Jack and Jill:

Hole: 1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  9
Jack: 4  5  9  5  7  5  3  4  5

Jill: 4  6  5  5  4  6  4  4 6

Hole 1: The match is all square. Jack and Jill tie the hole and neither player won. Hole 2: Jack is 1-up with 7
holes to play. Hole 3: The match is all square with 6 holes to play. Although Jill beat Jack by 4 strokes, the
state of the match is adjusted by one hole. Hole 4: The match is all square with 5 holes to play. Hole 5: Jill is 1-
up with 4 holes to play. Hole 6: The match is all square. Hole 7: Jack is 1-up with 2 holes to play. Hole 8: The
hole was halved, thus, the state of the match did not change. Jack remains 1-up with 1 hole to play, or Jack is
"dormie 1." Hole 9: Jack wins the final hole, and wins the match 2-up.(Rules 2-1, 2-2, and 2-3).

Matches must be completed by designated date

Run For The Roses:   Throughout the season, league members can

qualify for Run for the Roses by reporting their lowest net 18-hole
score to Sara in The Golf Shop.  You can turn in a qualifying score
either on league day or in a club-sanctioned event.    The lowest 13
net scores (and ties) plus last year’s winner, qualify to play in Run
for the Roses.   The event takes place in August.  Qualifiers tee off
on the 10th hole and proceed to play 11, 12, 7, 8 and 9.  Two to three
players are eliminated on each hole until only two players remain to
play number 9.  This event is played off the lowest handicap.

27-Hole Event:   This is a one-day 27-hole event that takes place on a league day.  You and your partner

compete against the entire field.  Pairings will be made by the golf staff.  The format is as follows:

Front Nine:  1 Net Best Ball of 2
Back Nine:  2 Net Best Balls (combined net scores)
Third Nine:  Alternate Shot (Teams choose who will tee off on the first

hole, then alternate shots the entire 9 holes.)

The winning partners are determined by the low score for the 27 holes.  This is a very fun event!

River Cup:   The River Cup is a “Ryder Cup” type format which takes place in September.  The participants

are divided into two teams, “Town” and “Country.”   The Golf shop determines the teams/partners.  You sign
up as an individual.  Once the teams are decided, you now have a “partner.”  Two partners from the “Town”
team, play a match against two partners from the “Country” team.   Gross stroke play is used in the matches
since the teams/partners were based on handicaps and equally divided.

Front Nine: ½ Best Ball (1 point for winning a hole and point for tying a hole)

Back Nine:   ½Alternating Shot (1 point for winning a hole and point for tying a hole)

All points earned by the entire “Town” team are added and compared to all the points earned by the
“Country” team.  The team with the most points is the winner!

The two team captains are the 18-Hole Club Champion and the Run for the Roses Champion.

18-Hole Club Championship (New for 2018):

Low Gross Division:  These players will be required to play 2 days (August 7th-8th, 2018).  The combined 2

day gross score will determine Town and Country’s Club Champion.

Stableford  Division:  These players will play only 1 day, August 7th, 2018.  Players will be flighted depending

on how many players register.  Competitors will have similar handicaps in each flight and play a Stableford
Format (Points are awarded per hole.  Net Bogey=1 Pt, Net Par=2 Pts, Net Birdie=3 Pts, Net Eagle=4 Pts.)

PLEASE NOTE:

Both leagues have an automatic paperless renewal system.
You will be signed up in 2018 for the SAME league as this year,

unless you notify Sara Evens ([email protected])
in the Golf Shop of your desired change.
