GARIKAI MAFIRAKUREVA/SIMBARASHE MTEMBO MIRROR REPORTERS MASVINGO – Presidential Spokesperson George Charamba and two military spokespersons have given conflicting statements on the destination of a heavily guarded military haulage trucks convoy that entered the country at night through Beitbridge Border Post on Sunday. The contingent which went through the Beitbridge VIP section, got into Masvingo just after midnight and drove towards Mutare raised eyebrows with many people calling Masvingo Mirror to find out the contents and destination of the convoy. In Masvingo, all intersections along Robert Mugabe Ave were heavily guarded by Military Police as the contingent passed through. Sources who contacted The Mirror said President Mnangagwa is on high alert against possible civil unrest steered by reports of high-level corruption at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and other public entities. Sources said the contingent was destined for one of the Zimbabwe barracks. There is also speculation about military assistance that President Mnangagwa asked for from the Russian President Vladimir Putin having arrived already. However, a statement from the office of the Minister of Defence, Oppah Kashiri said this was part of a Lesotho Defence Forces convoy that entered Zimbabwe through Nyamapanda Border Post on its way from Mozambique to Lesotho. Meanwhile, a statement by Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) spokesperson Colonel Alphios Makotore gave a different destination and said that the Lesotho Defence Forces convoy was coming from Lesotho and going to Mozambique. Charamba said the trucks were transporting food rations to ZNA members that are currently doing drills across the country. “It was an escort for army food rations. It’s normal for the Military Police to escort such cargo. We hold drills this time of the year in different places of the country so, we were transporting food rations to the areas. If they were weapons why would we let them pass through South Africa? “We have no need to arm ourselves and I keep repeating that when the President was in Russia he raised complaints against the behavior of the US in the region. The reference to Zambia was coincidental not intentional. Zambia is our good neighbour,” said Charamba. “The Lesotho Defence Forces convoy spent the night of June 17, 2024 on their way to Beitbridge Border Post. The Botswana Defence Force and Lesotho Defence Forces requested to use the territory of the Republic of Zimbabwe as part of their movement plan as they were withdrawing from the SADC mission in Mozambique,” said the statement from Muchinguri’s office. “It is not true that the convoy of military trucks you saw was ferrying weapons. The military convoy you witnessed passing through Beitbridge Border Post was a contingent from Lesotho Defence Forces. It was on its way to Mozambique. “The convoy passed through Masvingo and Mutare. It then exited the country through Forbes Border Post into Mozambique on its way to Cabo Delgado Province where the Lesotho Defence forces are deployed on military operations. “You will be informed of any other movements of the military convoy, however without compromising security regulations on such matters,” said Colonel Makotore. A statement on the International Crisis Group website, on May 8, 2024 shows that Lesotho and Botswana troops left Cabo Delgado in April this year and the two countries have no troops in the war torn region. International Crisis Group is an independent organisation working to prevent wars and shape policies that build a more peaceful world. Lesotho was part of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) operating in Cabo Delgado to combat terrorism and acts of violent extremism. “In January, SADC said it would withdraw the force when its current mandate expires on 15 July. Botswana and Lesotho pulled out in April, while Angola and Namibia are packing up now,” reads part of a statement on the organisation’s website. They are doing a great job and I encourage the parish to keep doing fundraising events of this nature to raise funds for building another church to decongest this parish,” said Musekiwa. Bishop Nyandoro commended the unity of purpose and said it shows that the church works harmoniously with other churches. “I must commend the unity of purpose and good relations that have been displayed here. Vice Secretary of the parish’s fundraising committee, Morris Chinwada said the event was a success. “The event came out exactly the way we wanted it because we have managed to attract the business community’s support and I am sure that we have managed to reach our targeted figure of US$6000. “My sincere gratitude goes to Mr Musekiwa for his tremendous support, Mrs. Mukewa who also extended her hand and other business people like Mr Peter Gore who promised to support us and the Halsted brothers,” said Chinwada. He made the donation during a site visit on Saturday. The initiative is spearheaded by Zibagwe Rural District Council (RDC). “The community has been walking for close to 30 km to access health services in Chiundura or at Bob Swift which is about 12km from here. This has been causing a lot of problems especially for pregnant women. “I am pledging my full support. I would like to commend the community for their contribution because they are the resources we need to build the clinic,” said Chokururama. The diesel will be used to transport bricks molded by villagers in the villages. The distance also made it difficult for women to access Sexual Reproduction Health Services (SRHS). Ward 2 Councillor, Basilio Mutosvori facilitated the drilling of a borehole at the site. He said the project requires collective action and input to come to fruition. “Council does not have resources for building this clinic at the moment so as the leadership we decided to kick start the project with help from the community. We drilled a borehole, footing of the building has been done and council has given us a tipper truck to carry bricks, pit sand and river sand,” said Mutosvori. The community is providing labour and bricks towards the initiative and the project is expected to be complete in three months. Getrude Vumba, a Ward 2 villager said the community lacks access to health services. “We are facing a lot of challenges especially pregnant women as it is difficult for them to access health services around here. It is our wish that this clinic will be built within a very short space of time,” she said. The local authority has 29 clinics servicing 33 wards and some villagers are traveling long distances of about 60km to access a clinic according Zibagwe RDC masterplan report of study findings. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Local news Page 5 21 - 27 June 2024 www.masvingomirror.com 071 689 5703 Chipinge Times & Two Nations Editor: Ellen Mlambo Editorial Comment The veld fire season which starts in….and ends in………. will soon be upon us. This is the time when we always witness countless veld fires raging in different parts of the country. The dry winter grass coupled with strong winds offer a perfect scenario where a small fire from a matchstick or burning cigarette stub can easily turn into a wild and fierce inferno. It is estimated that Zimbabwe loses more than 300 000 hectres of forest and grassland to veld fires every year. To that add loss of human life, valuable property and wildlife. The story does not end there as destroyed vegetation will result in serious soil erosion with the resultant smoke spewing into the atmosphere worsening the problem of climate change which in turn leaves the nation hungry and poorer. It is an undeniable fact that most of these veld fires are caused by human beings. Now if they are caused by human beings it means that they can be avoided. Usually it is that burning cigarette stub carelessly thrown away. Someone will make a fire and leave it unattended or would not be bothered to put it out. Then there are those hunters who deliberately burn the grass in order to force a single hare out of its hiding place so they can kill it. Yes, you can get a veld fire not caused by someone but solely by extremely hot temperatures especially in some countries found in the Americas or Europe. This in our case would be rare as we normally don’t have very high temperatures during the fire season. Now if for us veld fires are avoidable then we should seriously be conscietising, educating, reminding and motivating each other of the need to prevent veld fires. As it is we are not making much headway in prevention as we continue to register high incidences of veld fires that come with devastating consequences. Veld fire prevention is everyone’s responsibility and should start with you and me as individuals, flowing into the family, the community and the country at large. The business sector, government, traditional leaders, churches and schools play a critical role and should prioritise veld fire prevention in their activities. Because it is better to catch them young, special attention should be given to school children. This way they will grow with a sense of ownership of the environment and dedicate themselves to protecting it as their source of life. We all depend on Mother Earth for survival, let us all make sure that we protect her by all means possible. Veld fire prevention, Everyone’s responsibility From page 1 Georgina said Majange had visited his sisters in Harare and started having breathing difficulties as he arrived at the former’s Milton Park home on Wednesday. “He was driven by his cousin to visit his sisters in Harare. They entered the gate into the Milton home but he started to have breathing difficulties just as he was trying to open the car door. He never came out of the car as we immediately drove him to the hospital where the doctor found no pulse and declared him dead,” said Georgina. Mourners are gathered at the family’s rural homestead at Mashamhanda Village, Sese, in Chivi where he will be buried on Sunday. Majange has since been declared a liberation hero by President Mnangagwa and he joins his late father Calvin who was granted the same status by the late President Mugabe. Majange and his late father Calvin (senior) have left an indelible mark on the City of Masvingo. Calvin Majange Road, one of the biggest streets in Mucheke Suburb is named after the father while a thriving business center in the same area is named after the son who was the first man to build a shop there. Majange senior was a businessman who was murdered by the Rhodesian Army in 1977 for supporting the liberation war with material resources. “His excellency, the President and First Secretary of ZANU PF, Cde E.D. Mnangagwa has conferred a Liberation Hero status to the late Cde Charles Shanyurai Majange who died on the 19th June 2024…,” reads part of the conferment signed by the party’s secretary general Obert Mpofu dated June 21, 2024. Majange was best known by many as Mr Chikwepa because he always went around with a tobacco pipe. He was Masvingo City Treasurer for 17 years from 1983 – 2000 when he was elected Chivi South MP. He served two consecutive terms until 2008. Majange was born in Chivi on March 2, 1954. He is the first born in a family of nine. He did his primary education at Berejena Mission and enrolled at Fletcher High School for his O and A Level studies. He studied at Oriel College at the University of Oxford from 1974 – 1977 and graduated with a degree and a masters’ in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. He signed a training contract with KPMG then Peat Marwick and Company after graduating and received training in auditing, financial accounting, taxation, company law and information and technology. He left the company in 1982 when he returned to Zimbabwe. He joined Masvingo City as treasurer in February 1983 and left the local authority in March 2000. Majange was elected Chivi South MP on a Zanu PF ticket in 2000 and served two terms until 2008. He also held several posts within the party as provincial secretary for commissariat and secretary for finance from 1999 – March 2008. He left active politics in 2008 and became a director at TAM Chartered Accountants operating in Masvingo City from April 2008 – 2014. His specific role was quality control. Majange joined Ralph Bomment Greenacre Reynolds Chartered Accountants in February 2015 and he represented the company in Masvingo region with special responsibility for business development. He left the company and was doing periodic consultancy work in and around Masvingo at the time of his death. He is survived by five children and four grandchildren. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Page 6 21 - 27 June 2024 www.masvingomirror.com SYDNEY MUBAIWA MIDLANDS BUREAU MBERENGWA - A critical shortage of health workers is affecting health care services in Mberengwa with over 35 open vacancies that have gone for months without being filled, district lead master planner Average Chigwenya has said. He said the high medical staff turnover is attributed to poor working environments and impassable roads. He said some staffers can only leave their stations once every quarter due to impassable roads and risk being robbed along the way. “Mberengwa district is suffering from high staff turnover where there are more than 35 open vacancies that have been difficult to fill. These include doctors, mid-wives and general nurses. There is need to add two more doctors to make them four. There are no visiting doctors in all rural clinics. There is need for doctors to visit a clinic once or twice a month to offer general services. “Most of the hospitals in Mberengwa do not have functional theatres. The district has four hospitals, one Government and three mission hospitals. However, of the four, only one (Masase) has a functional theatre while all others refer their critical operations to Bulawayo, Gweru, Masvingo and Gwanda where such services are found,” he said. Chigwenya said the major challenge was that there are no ambulances that service rural clinics as most of the roads are impassible. Roads in Mberengwa are impassable because of illegal gold and emerald mining. Most roads are now gullies and have open shafts making it impossible for vehicles to pass. The spread of waterborne and sexually transmitted diseases is also high due to the mining activities. “All the hospitals in the district do not have specialist doctors hence all such services are referred to Bulawayo, Gweru and Masvingo which are the nearest referral hospitals. There is need to provide specialists such as neurologists, laboratory specialists, dentists, opticians and mid-wives to enhance better health care services,” he said. Mberengwa has an acute shortage of medical staff ALVINA CHIWANIKA MIRROR REPORTER MBERENGWA - Midlands Minister of State, Owen Ncube has handed over Information Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to Chabirwa Primary School. He handed over the equipment that includes 20 laptops, a printer, projector and white board last Thursday. The equipment was donated to rural schools in the Midlands by President Mnangagwa through the Ministry of Information, Communication, Technology Postal and Courier Services on March 7, this year, when he launched the National ICT Policy, Smart Zimbabwe 2030 Master plan, National Broadband plan, the optic Fibre Network Backbone, Schools ICT labs and clinic connectivity in Somabula. Ncube said the equipment is in line with Government’s education 5.0 initiative which seeks to enhance E-learning and strengthen universal access to education. “These laptops are part of the broader strategy by Government to modernise rural schools across the province from Mberengwa to Gokwe. I urge learners to fully utilise these laptops and take their studies seriously. I urge all girls to desist from child marriages. Equip yourself first,” said Ncube. Mamoti is secluded and minor children have to cross a river to get to Machitenda Primary School which is about five km away. The preschool currently has 45 learners and pupils abandon class when it rains or there are strong winds. The project began in 2019 when Mavhaire donated cement that was used to construct the building until it reached roofing level. He donated roofing materials recently. He told The Mirror that they are also seeking assistance from well-wishers for window frames, cement, paint, furniture and construction of a teachers’ house. “We are building the preschool to make life easier for the village folk. The nearest school is five kilometres away and pupils have to cross a river to get there. This is not acceptable thus we began this project to ensure that pupils get services at their doorsteps. “The project is still in the pipeline and we will see it through to fruition. Children have to abandon class when it rains or there are strong winds and this is an undesirable situation. We are for the people and have to better communities at every turn,” he said. Mavhaire also donated 10kg bags of mealie meal to close almost 50 villagers at Rupike in Masvingo Central Ward 23. Neighbouring wards and villages also received the mealie meal. “The mealie meal is being given to the needy, child headed families, People with Disabilities (PWD), those facing starvation and the elderly. This is a running program to ensure that no one goes hungry in the wake of the drought. We have done a similar project at Chesvingo Village and we will continue it,” he said. WALPE financed the workshop facilitated by Gutu United Residents and Ratepayers Association (GURRA). GURRA secretary general, Tafunga Mamombe confirmed the matter to The Mirror. He said they suspect that Muyambo succumbed to political pressure from Zanu PF Masvingo Province secretary for commissariat, Brian Munyoro who stays near the workshop venue. “We did everything by the book. There was no need to get Police clearance for the workshop and we always seek their clearance when we hold events that require us to do so. We suspect that Muyambo succumbed to pressure from Zanu PF provincial commissar Brian Munyoro who stays next to the lodge. “After ordering us to disperse, we requested for time to give the youth food and certificates and they allowed us to do that. Had the workshop been illegal, there was no way Police would have allowed us to wrap up,” he said. Masvingo Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said he was yet to receive the matter when contacted for a comment. Munyoro did not respond to calls when contacted for a comment. Mamombe added that officers from the CID section first interrogated them and left before Muyambo arrived with eight armed officers an hour later. He interrogated us in a separate room and kept making phone calls before ordering us to disperse, he said. “We invited two youth, a male and a female from each of the 41 wards in Gutu and 33 individuals were able to attend. We have youth committees in every ward and that is where the youth where selected from. Our plan was to invite the remaining 49 youth in groups but it will be difficult after what transpired on Friday,” he added. Madzure was sentenced to two years behind bars for stealing a laptop and 12 months suspended from his previous conviction were added to his jail term. He was found guilty on his own plea. Circumstances are that Madzure stole a laptop valued at US$300 belonging Ashley Munyoro on May 13, 2024. The laptop was later recovered at his residence in Woodlands, Gweru. I am supposed to submit my CALAs next week. I enrolled for my O Levels whilst serving time at Whawha,” he said. Magistrate Dube considered that the accused was not a first offender when handing down her sentence. “You have repeated the same mistake you did last time and this shows that you are not yet reformed. Your continued disregard for the law shows that the previous sentence was not deterrent enough to make you a reformed person. “In this regard, you need a longer sentence that will rehabilitate you. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Page 14 21 - 27 June 2024 www.masvingomirror.com Religious News BY FR ISIAH DHLIWAYO The scepticism of modern society has affected the clerical profession profoundly. The attempt to find other levels at which religious propositions are true - that is to say , levels other than the common -sense and literal level - has led to widely diverse clerical interpretations of religion in its contemporary meaning. Today, the loss of association with other major social institutions has not been accomplished without some effects on the religious profession itself.Truly the clergy have already been seen in this contemporary world to have lost social standing. Though I don't have a metric to measure the amount of respect and honour but decreased church attendance, and clergy related infidelities , scandals and abuses however, can be indicative of loss of respect for clergy, although that isn't the only factors to drive home for this view. Over the years in my country , there has been this insidious, malevolent fusion of religion and politics with religious leaders being vicarious politicians.and some laity because they think churches' current teachings are hypocritical regarding human rights, especially those of women and LGBTQ individuals have low tone for clerical profession. However, scientists have increasingly replaced clerical profession as the intellectual stratum of society, and literature and the arts have passed almost completely out of the religious sphere . Simply explained for basic Christian and sociological comprehension ,religious profession is often associated with the granting of a religious habit, which the newly professed receives from the superior of the institute or from the bishop. Simultaneously ,acceptance of the habit implies acceptance of the obligation of membership of the religious institute as well as the associated vows. In sociology, secularization is a multilayered concept that generally denotes "a transition from a religious to a more worldly level." (International Encyclopedia of the Social & Behavioral Sciences (Second Edition) It can also mean the lifting of monastic restrictions from a member of the clergy, and to deconsecration, removing the consecration of a religious building so that it may be used for other purposes.(Berlinerblau, Jacques (2022). Secularism: The Basics. Routledge. p. 35.) In its simpler understanding secularization can be summarized under two heads: maintenance of the religious life, and at the same time relaxation of the religious life so far as is necessary in order to live in the world.. Religious Professionals are the formal leaders within certain religions. They conduct religious services, preaching sermons, celebrate or administer the rites of a religious faith, provide spiritual and moral guidance and perform other functions associated with sacred traditions, practices and beliefs. An example of the profession of faith is," I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church." Religion is basically defined in this article as a “set of beliefs, practices, and language that characterizes a community that is searching for transcendent meaning in a particular way, generally based upon belief in a deity” (Astrow et al.) Secularisation has really challenged Clerical Profession and Christianity It has been brought about by the rise in science which means that there is no need for a 'God of the gaps'. It has directly challenged Christianity as modern beliefs oppose the traditional teachings and practices of the Church therefore the Church has been unable to defend itself against secularisation. Secularisation has been caused by the rise in science. Dawkins would say that science eliminates the need for religion. He states that religion and science are incompatible and so people can only believe in one. Since Christianity has no successful defence against science, it has no successful defence against secularisation. McGrath disagrees with Dawkins and says that religion and science can be compatible. He gives the examples of Francis Collins who is a leading scientist but also a Christian. Pope Francis has stated that religion and science can work together. According to the Article Written By Timothy H.J. Nerozzi Fox News Published August 2, 2023 3:24pm EDT Pope Francis emphasized the need for courage and resilience in the face of a secularized, increasingly pessimistic world during his vespers address for World Youth Day. Although the Church may now try to promote the relationship between Christianity and science, as science advances it will be more convincing that Christianity and secularism will continue to rise . Clerics have now come to disbelieve in the ultimacy of any answers which they can supply about social questions ,as they did earlier about physical questions. As the range of empirical information has increased, acquisition of the knowledge of it and the skills to analyse it and interpret it pass beyond the range of clerical education. There is then ,nolonger much confidence im God's word or in God's guidance about the issues arising in contemporary society. +263773426115 [email protected] Clerical Profession and Secularisation: A Sociological Comment Ps Trymore Dzobo Some have argued that the Holy Spirit literally does nothing when we sin .Except to tell us we are righteous, It’s likely they were in a hurry listening to their teacher . That’s the danger of cherry picking or listening to build your sermon or woo others . It has happened with many bible concepts . John 16:8-11 KJV [8] And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: [9] Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10] Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more I Suspect this is one of such subtexts . It’s proof texted. The concept discussed was about his resurrection not Christian living . The background suffices . John 16:7 KJV [7] Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. His going away is his death burial and resurrection and its facts . He will convince on this . Some have likewise used James’ submission James 1:5 KJV [5] If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. Upbraids not ,which could also mean to find wrong or fault . This context is persecution and trial of faith . Context is always king . That same word was used for other instances . Matthew 11:20 KJV [20] Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not: For Jesus . Mark 16:14 KJV [14] Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. For Jesus again . He was said to have upbraided ,contradictions? No . I often teach that words only have its true meaning in sentences used not necessarily dictionaries. Did Jesus find fault ? Obviously he corrected like every teacher should . He definitely told them their wrong ,unbelief .And taught them . This is where mere fault finding differs from correction. In correction ,deed done wrong is pointed out Mark 4:40 KJV [40] And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? Matthew 17:17 KJV [17] Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. That’s the spirit speaking .The Spirit of God .Telling them what they did wrong . However the difference is correction teaches what you should do or should have done Like a school class teacher marks your scripts ,then afterwards does a class to show what you should have written where you missed the mark or issues . Luke 24:25 KJV The spirit when we sin ..or go wrong ..

The other five countries are Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, and Tanzania. The WHO uses the Global Benchmarking Tool (GBT) to assess regulatory authorities based on more than 260 indicators. Reaching Maturity Level 3 indicates a stable, well-functioning, and integrated regulatory system The highest level, Maturity Level 4, represents advanced performance and continuous improvement. MCAZ Director General, Mr Richard Rukwata told journalists in Harare on Monday that public safety was the organization’s priority. “The attainment of GBT ML 3 has been a strategic objective for us as a regulator, reflecting our dedication to safeguarding public health. This milestone demonstrates our capability to effectively regulate and monitor the safety, quality, and efficacy of medicines, vaccines, and medical devices in Zimbabwe. It assures the public and our partners that Zimbabwe’s regulatory framework meets international standards. I commend the MCAZ Board and all our staff for their relentless efforts and commitment to achieving this goal. ” said Mr Richard Rukwata, MCAZ Director-General. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Health news Page16 21 - 27 June 2024 www.masvingomirror.com CATHERINE MUROMBEDZI HEALTH CORRESPONDENT This week, the column takes a look at tuberculosis (TB) burden, strategies and tools used across the Zambezi River, our neighbours in the north, Zambia, with a population of 20.02 million (2022), and Ethiopia, with 120 million people, in East Africa. The Ministry of Health in Zambia, together with partners, undertook an in country evaluation of TB. Zambia has demonstrated massive reductions in new TB cases and associated mortality. However, there remains a significant need for improved TB care delivery. TB remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Zambia, especially among people living with HIV. In 2022, Zambia had a diagnostic network assessment conducted by the National TB & Leprosy Program (NTLP). It revealed that hard-to-reach facilities lacked equitable access to the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended molecular rapid diagnostic tests, e.g, GeneXpert and Truenat. The WHO recommends the following first-line diagnostic tools for TB testing. Rapid molecular diagnostic tests, such as GeneXpert, MTB/RIF Ultra, and Truenat assays, as the initial diagnostic test for all persons with signs and symptoms of TB. Both tests can detect TB and rifampicinresistant TB, but Truenat MTB/RIF DX is used as a follow-up test on samples that test positive for TB to test for rifampicin resistance. Previously, sputum smear microscopy and culture testing, chest X-ray for the diagnosis of pulmonary TB were mainly used. In 2016, the NTLP, Zambia, adopted the GeneXpert as its first line diagnostic tool in presumptive TB. According to the 2021 Zambia Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (ZAMPHIA) survey, the HIV prevalence among adults 15+ years was 11.0%. HIV prevalence among women was 13.9%. HIV prevalence among men was 8.0%. HIV incidence among women stands at 0.56%. HIV incidence among men was 0.06%. Prevalence of viral load suppression (VLS) among adults living with HIV was 86.2%. Meanwhile, a closer look at Ethiopia, showed the TB incidence at 126 per 100 000 people. The TB burden and strategy in Ethiopia was given by Mr Getachew Aga Getachew Aga, Ministry of Health, Disease Prevention and Control General Manager in Goa, India. The meeting took place in May. The call to find all TB Heading: Towards ending TB: Evolution of diagnostic tools and current strategies CATHERINE MUROMBEDZI HEALTH CORRESPONDENT A novel utraportable X-Ray (UPX) that detects TB is a game-changer in the tuberculosis response. It’s ability to screen large numbers of people quickly eases burnout in settings with staff shortages. It cuts turnaround time as the diagnosis is done on site. Mr Shiva Sriram, President Business Development , Molbio Diagnostics recently announced the revolutionary tool in TB diagnosis. The UPX has the potential to significantly improve TB detection in low-resource settings, making it an invaluable tool in the fight against TB. “Prognosys Medical Systems --- a Molbio company, has designed and developed the Prorad Atlas, which is a small, battery-operated, lightweight and AI-enabled Ultraportable X-ray (UPX) system, ideal for deployment in remote locations. “The UPX-ray system is designedt for point-of-care screening and diagnosis of TB in remote locations. “Molbio's Prorad Atlas is a revolutionary, ultraportable X-ray system designed for point-of-care screening and diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) in remote locations. It’s novel tool runs on a small battery, is lightweight, and has artificially intelligence (AI) technology capable of producing high-quality image output. It also has advanced software technology for image enhancement,” said Mr Shiva Sriram. With minimised radiation exposure for patient and technician, the UPX ensures safety for both patient and technician. "The tool is in commercial use across India and has been successfully demonstrated to the national TB Programme (NTP) officials in several countries, including Bangladesh, Kenya, Nigeria, Philippines and many more.. "We have been requested by most countries to make the product available through international funding agencies such as The Global Fund, Stop TB Partnership, the United Nations Global Market (UNGM), the official procurement portal of the United Nations Systems, among others," he said. The UPX's ability to screen large numbers of people quickly has the potential to significantly improve TB detection in low-resource settings, making it an invaluable tool in the fight against TB. With 78 months to 2030, “Ending TB by 2030” is off track. The response requires an accelerated response to finding all tuberculosis patients using the latest diagnostic tools. "Fifteen Truenat machines have been distributed to selected health facilities (HFs) for a feasibility study. "An additional 15 machines are in the pipeline for distribution. “Molecular testing, specifically real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction), is being expanded to health facilities, building on the experience of the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) and the guidelines developed for GeneXpert MTB/RIF in 2013. The implementation includes integration with private facilities, mega projects, and Missionary of Charities. "Specimen transportation for referral is also being integrated into the program,” said Mr Getachew. "The expansion aims to improve access to molecular diagnostics for TB in Ethiopia, enabling earlier detection and treatment of tuberculosis," he added. With science and innovation ushering efficient diagnostic tolls, civil society organisations must advocate for countries to purchase effective diagnostic tools and therapeutics for the treatment of TB. TB can be treated and is curable. Nash head in charge of Debate and Public Speaking, Lincoln Mlambo said drama not only entertains but educates. “Each year’s theme has a solid reason behind it and this year’s theme aims to teach and warn youth and the community at large of the effects of certain decisions in life. “Drama showcases talent but we also regard it like all other sporting activities while trying to portray that it’s not only ball games that are important and can earn one a source of livelihood,” he said. With Peter Marimi Let me go Death knocked on my door, No choice I had to open, For death is man’s destiny. Opening the door I welcomed death, Taken away as flesh and soul parted ways, Each on its way to where it came from. Flesh to dust, soul to Creator. Gone, gone, let me go, Let me go to where I belong. Let me go to my Maker. Your hearts grieve with pain untold, Helplessly watching my lifeless body, Sorrow in hearts deeper than deepest. Time to depart, belonging to the departed. Me on this earth just a tourist. Tourists to their homes do return. Gone, gone, let me go, Let me go to where I belong. Let me go to my real home. You love me, you all dearly love me, But time to go is time to go. Release me from hearts so loving. Let me go to my heavenly bliss. Gone, gone, let me go, Let me go to where I belong. Let me go to Christ my Saviour. Stop crying, tears wipe away. Christ’s resurrection reason to smile. Stop weeping I am not dead. Christ’s resurrection my resurrection. Joyful farewell let this be, For we shall meet in the afterlife. Grieve not like the hopeless, Christ my hope, Christ your hope. Gone, gone, let me go, Let me go to where I belong. Let me go to Christ my Love.

Club chairperson Crispen Ngwenya confirmed the development to The Mirror. He said outgoing CEO Wounder Chaka has been appointed club’s football director. Veteran coach Gibson Mutemera has been put in charge of the women’s team which plays in the Zimbabwe Women Soccer Premier League. Ngwenya said the appointments were made necessary by the need to meet FIFA standards, team’s growth and recent adoption of Chipembere Queens. “I am pleased to announce that the team has made secretariat changes. These were necessitated by the team’s growth. “Veteran footballer Wounder Chaka will work with all the coaches of our various teams as our full time football director. We have women and men soccer teams and these need an experienced footballer. These teams need direct support in terms of strategies and advice from him,” he said. She added she intends to support the girl child to earn a living through sport. Chaka said the Club’s vision is to get back into the Premier Soccer League and it is working hard to achieve this feat. “I’ m quite optimistic that the team will get back into the PSL. Inaugural Shurugwi marathon on Saturday Wilbert Rambanapasi. Kylian Mbappe may be prevented from wearing a protective mask that he's had on in France training because of a littleknown Uefa rule. Mbappe broke his nose in France's opening Euro 2024 clash with Austria following a nasty coming together with opposition centre-back Kevin Danso. The 25-year-old leapt to win a header as the ball was crossed into the box, only to be intercepted by the point of the Austrian's shoulder. Extensive on the field treatment was required before Mbappe could be taken off, with Real Madrid's new talisman looking to be in extreme discomfort. France communicated their plan for Mbappe in the hours that followed the 1-0 win, courtesy of an own goal from Max Wober, and he's been training with the squad as usual after wearing a protective mask donning the colours of the national team flag - red, white and blue. But UEFA's rules in regards to protective covering state that “medical equipment worn on the playing field must be of a single colour” and “must not allow the team or manufacturer to be identified”. Reports in France say that Mbappe has already been presented with alternatives and the guidelines will be checked during a technical meeting before France play the Netherlands. Wearing protective masks is not uncommon for players who have suffered facial injuries. Napoli's Victor Osimhen has famously worn one ever since he injured an eye socket while playing against Inter in November 2021. The Nigerian underwent surgery to fix the problem and missed three months of action, before returning with a protective mask. He has continued to wear it even though doctors have fully cleared of him and say it is not a necessity. France head coach Didier Deschamps said of Mbappe's progress: “Everything is going in the right direction after this major shock with the consequences. Yesterday he went out, he did a little activity. This will also be the case this evening. Things are moving in the right direction to ensure that he is available tomorrow.” There is no guarantee that Mbappe will start against the Netherlands in Friday's late game, particularly as Deschamps has a number of strong alternatives should he wish to. Olivier Giroud could return up front, shunting Marcus Thuram out to the wing, with Kingsley Coman, Randal Kolo Muani and the extremely talented Bradley Barcola also part of France's 26-player squad.- 90min Why UEFA rule may stop Kylian Mbappe from wearing training mask for France • Mbappe suffered broken nose in France's opening Euro 2024 game • New Real Madrid forward set to undergo surgery after the tournament • Protective mask intended to allow Mbappe to continue participation
THE Sport Mirror 21 - 27 June 2024 www.masvingomirror.com masvingo mirror masvingomirror SIMBARASHE MTEMBO MIRROR REPORTER MASVINGO – The ZIFA Eastern Region board highjacked weekly and monthly awards done by the region’s aspiring chairperson, Rtd Major Special Matarirano and failed to pay winners over the weekend. Matarirano was holding Man of the Match awards that saw nine players taking home US$20 prize money every match day. Player, coach and referee of the month winners received US$50. The region’s board led by incumbent chairperson Davison Muchena wrote to clubs on June 9, 2024, advising them man of the match winners’ names should be submitted to the region’s office. “From this coming week, each team should select man of the match from their side and submit it to the match commissioner at the end of every match. For the coach of the month, the one who has won many matches during that month will automatically win,” reads part of the memo. Region’s vice chairperson, Wisdom Simba said anyone who intends to hold awards should partner the board. He added that they are holding monthly awards. “I will set the record straight. Anyone who wants to hold awards should partner the board. We do organised things here. We are having monthly awards and the best players will be awarded at the end of the month, ours are not weekly awards,” he said. Matarirano said the board lacks integrity and transparency and his camp is open to partnering the board if they are allowed to administer the awards. “The board lacks transparency and integrity. We are open to partnering the board if it plays an overall role and does not interfere with the selection processes and handling the finances,” he said. Team managers who spoke to The Mirror on condition of anonymity said the move by the board is political. “This is purely political. The board is trying to save face. The awards were benefitting players and the level of competition had improved. We don’t know if players and coaches will get anything at the end of the month as has been promised,” said one manager. “The board is desperately seeking reelection and wants to ride on the wave set by Matarirano. This is, however detrimental and affects players who were benefiting,” said another manager. Masvingo United chairperson Collen Maboke said they are going to end FC Wangu Mazodze’s winning streak in Sunday’s derby. He said Una Una performed superbly yesterday and the team is ready for Mazodze. “Our target is to get into the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and our chances are good because the league is still young. Buffaloes is a big team and the win is our statement of intent. We are going to end Mazodze’s winning streak on Sunday,” he said.
