The restive clients also accuse Vonani Majoko who was appointed the curator of trying to sweep their complaints under the carpet. They also said Majoko attempted to milk them by claiming that he could make an urgent caveat application in the case involving Toendepi Tanyanyiwa whose property was sold in 2019. Majoko had charged them US$ 1,500 for the service. One of the complainants Netsai Magunda said Majoko cannot make an urgent caveat application because the property was sold almost four years ago. “After consultation, we discovered it’s not possible to make an urgent application for a matter that happened four years ago. What will be urgent there,” said Magunda. Majoko, however, said he admits understands the people’s frustration because of the delays in resolving their issues. He went on to say Tanyanyiwa told him that the alleged buyer is a non-existent, unregistered company and he advised him that legally there was no sale because one cannot sell to a non-existent company. “I stated the basis of my opinion in the letter you have sent. Mrs Tanyanyiwa and Mrs Magunda were to bring proof that the buyer is not a registered company, but they did not and I left the matter at that. They are very wrong I must emphasize. Urgency is not determined by reference to the harm sought to be prevented “Mrs Tanyanyiwa was willing to be advised but not Mrs Magunda. It's a Lie. I have never refused to give anyone a file I have. You can confirm with the Law Society that the Tshabalala report was sent to the Law Society last year, around August. Why would I want to sweep anything under the carpet? I understand people are frustrated by the slow pace and they are anxious to know what the future holds for them, but casting unfounded aspersions helps no one,” said Majoko. According to documents in the hands of The Mirror, Doreen Vundhla Phulu a principal partner in Vhundhla Phulu and Partners was engaged by different clients in conveyancing and other legal services who later lost properties and money through alleged forgery, misuse of money, negligence, misrepresentation and unauthorised discounts and payments in RTGS not agreed upon by clients. Clients also complained that Phulu would not bank money she received on behalf of her clients and she did not keep proper accounting records. In one case Phulu allegedly sold a property of her client twice resulting in a prejudice of US$15 000 to one of the buyers. Getrude Tshabalala of Riverside Bulawayo complained that she contracted Phulu for conveyancing for 10 plots owned by her and her three children. The plots had a total value of US$245 000 and she was allegedly prejudiced through false documents by the lawyer, concealing important information, failure to present complete statements of accounts and failure to produce. Tshabalala complained that Phulu failed to produce documents for the payment of US$55 000 she made to a Mr Sithole for the servicing of land in the form of construction of roads and water supply. Tshabalala had complaints with all the 10 plots sold on her behalf by Phulu. Netsai Magunda complained to Law Society that in 2017, she and her brother Kutamahufa engaged Phulu to prepare an agreement on the sale of a property that they wanted to purchase Stand 153 and 154 Matsheumhlope Bulawayo. After signing the agreement of sale they only realised in 2019 that Phulu had transferred the property into another person’s name. Magunda has allegedly failed to recover her US$15 750. Viola Chagweka complained that she engaged Phulu to do her appeal case at the Supreme Court. Phulu demanded payment upfront within four days and this was done. After serving the other parties the Supreme Court allegedly called her to provide a copy with the High Court stamp and this is when Chagweka realised that Phulu had not served the High Court. In May 2021 Phulu made a chamber application for reinstatement of the matter which had been struck off. She allegedly did not give Chagweka the reasons why the matter was struck off. Later Chagweka allegedly realised that Phulu was suspended from duty and her company was put under judiciary management, and Majoko of Majoko and Majoko was appointed in charge of all Phulu clients. In 2018, Netsai Magunda says she engaged Phulu over a relative’s property that was being auctioned. They wanted Phulu to save the property, The property was referred to a private treaty with the complainant expected to get a buyer. Magunda and her relatives were surprised to be told that Geomoses Investments was the highest bidder and it got the property for RTGS$180 000. Records at the Registrar of Deeds allegedly indicate that the said company does not exist. The value of the property was US$250,000. Tanyanyiwa reported both Deputy Sheriff Mitchell Shungu and Michael Nekati of Bulawayo Real Estate to the Commercial Crime Division (CCD) under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Southern Region. The case is yet to be heard at the Bulawayo Magistrate Court almost three years later. He had written to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the LSZ, but he found no joy. Delays at Law Society worry Byo clients

The cost is higher than at the High Court where one pays US$10 to file an application and US$20 to do the same at the Constitutional Court. Villagers who spoke to The Mirror described this as extortion and they appealed to the Minister of Justice, Legal and ParliamentaryAffairs, Ziyambi Ziyambi to intervene. Asked for comment, Ziyambi said his Ministry gazettes fees for chiefs’ courts every year and urged the chiefs to comply with requirements. The Mirror established that the current gazetted fees for chiefs’ courts is US$27. Acting Chief Nyamandi, born Siyano Machaya exploded when The Mirror called him for a comment. He said what transpires at his court was none of the media’s business. Constitutional Court Judge, Justice Rita Makarau, however, expressed concern at the low coverage of traditional courts when she came to Masvingo to officially open the High Court for the 2024 Legal Year recently. She said coverage of traditional courts is important for transparency and said the matter would be discussed at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). In the latest case, Machaya demanded US$137 each from Clever Tozoona of Kudzerema Village who had a land dispute with Simion Mukurumbira of the same Village. Tozoona who won the case but is not happy with the chief’s exorbitant fees said he was going to demand back the money he was overcharged by the chief. “I and Mukurumbira both paid US$137 to appear before him. I plan to approach the chief so that he gives me back part of the money,” said Tozoona. “Who are you to ask me what I charge my subjects. What is the media’s interest in my court? I don’t answer to you,” said acting Chief Nyamandi before he hang up his phone. Mukurumbira could not be reached for a comment by the time of going to Press. Impeccable sources, however, told The Mirror that Chief Nyamandi seized four goats belonging to Mukurumbira’s son after he failed to pay the US$137. Nyamandi chieftainship elders who spoke to this publication said that the three immediate past chiefs maintained the same land boundary that the acting chief has reversed. “The piece of land under contention was bought by Mukurumbira’s grandmother in the 1960’s. The first dispute was heard by the late Chief Nyamandi born Mushai Machaya in the 1970’s and he upheld the boundary line with markings. The second case was heard by the late chief born Mambayo Machaya sometime around 2015. The current acting chief’s late father, Kokerai Machaya also heard the same matter in 2017 before he died and upheld the same boundary. “This acting chief has overstayed. The 24 chieftainship families chose Zvagara Masunda to be the substantive chief in 2021 and we are waiting on Government to complete the process,” said former Helen McGhie Primary head and chieftainship elder, Horuno Herbert Zengeya. Provincial Chiefs Assembly Chairperson, Chief Chitanga of Mwenezi born Feleni Chauke said he is not in a position to comment. “I will need to hear from the chief and the men who appeared before him before I comment. There might be some circumstances that forced the chief to do so. Our fees are gazetted by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC),” he said. Chief demands US$137 to hear cases Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Ziyambi Ziyambi.

The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Local news Page 8 02 - 08 February 2024 www.masvingomirror.com Positive Parenting: Raising happy and resilient children BY ALPHIOUS MUGARI Parenting is undoubtedly one of the most important and challenging roles in our lives. Parenting styles and the family environment significantly influence the development and overall wellbeing of children. This influence can be either positive or negative depending on the style used. Positive parenting has recently gained widespread recognition because of its focus towards the full development of children through non-violence, care, recognition, guidance and the establishment of limits. It is an empathy-based approach that involves techniques such as encouragement and problem-solving rather than shouting, hostility, shaming or leveraging rewards. The idea is to focus on a child’s strengths rather than trying to focus on their weaknesses. This article will delve into the principles and advantages of positive parenting which contributes to national development and reduction of juvenile delinquent behaviour. Principles of positive parenting Creating a strong, warm, and nurturing relationship with children is essential under positive parenting. This involves parents spending quality time with children, showing empathy and understanding. Both parents and children benefit from this meaningful, happy, and less stressful relationship. Spending regular quality time with children and modelling good behaviour is by far the best thing one can do to help them develop selfconfidence and healthy relationships. Radiating positivity and warmth through actions such as making eye contact, embracing their child, smiling, hugs and kisses is very crucial under positive parenting. Positive reinforcement is another crucial component of positive parenting. It includes acknowledging and praising children for their efforts, achievements, and positive behaviour to reinforce desired actions. Ensuring that children get more attention for their good behaviour than the bad ones is a necessity. This encourages them to do more of the good work and maintain a positive self-identity. Evidence shows that young children are very responsive to praise, hence, words that are said to children at any age become their inner voice. Establishing clear, age-appropriate expectations for children’s behaviour helps children understand what is expected of them. It also provides consistent boundaries to guide their actions. Clear expectations and boundaries minimise potential conflicts and ambiguity. Parents must not be controlling or permissive and start working with their children. Explaining the consequences of violating certain limits is very important. Children should be given attention and praise when they follow instructions and try to limit attention for bad behaviours like tantrums. Positive parenting also emphasizes open and courteous communication between parents and children. This involves active listening, expressing feelings and needs clearly. Children want and deserve explanations as much as adults do. If parents don't take time to explain, children will begin to question the basis of parents’ values and motives. On the other hand, children’s suggestions should also be considered and be discussed. Children who participate in decision making are more motivated to carry them out. Parents’ tone of voice, body language, and every expression are absorbed by children.Caregivers can also encourage children to openly express their positive and negative feelings without fear of judgment, or punishment. Use of active listening skills also shows sincere interest in your child’s thoughts and experiences by setting aside time for listening, maintaining eye contact, and asking clarifying questions. Parents acting as role models for their children through demonstrating the behaviours they expect from them constitute also good parenting. These behaviours include empathy, respect, friendliness, honesty, kindness, tolerance, and good communication. Children learn a lot about how to act by watching their parents. The younger they are, the more cues they take from parents. Teens, on the other side tend to look more to their peers for role models. Parents must continue to provide guidance, encouragement, and appropriate discipline while allowing them to earn independence. A parent imitating a child can be flattering and send a message that the child is important and interesting. In return, the child is more likely to imitate the adult as well. Parental self-care is another important pillar of positive parenting. Self-care offers a caregiver more energy, mental strength, and positive attitude needed to teach good behaviour. Regular meditation, active hobbies, quality time, and healthy nutrition are just a few strategies for self-care. It is common for parents to struggle with guilt when prioritizing themselves, but their positive habits and attitude will rub off on the child’s behaviours. Caregivers are also advised to take time out from parenting to do things that will make them feel happy and refreshed. Getting one’s own emotional state under control before interacting with a child is crucial. Creating a safe, engaging, and supervised environment is essential for encouraging positive play, experimentation, and exploration. Children’s environment has great effect on their behaviour. Parents can change children’s behaviour by changing their environment. If caregivers find themselves constantly saying "no" to a 2-year-old, they must look for ways to alter their surroundings so that fewer things are off-limits. This will cause fewer frustrations. Benefits of Positive Parenting Positive parenting is a powerful approach that offers a myriad of benefits to both parents and children. It fosters strong relationships, boosts self-esteem and confidence, improves emotional intelligence, builds communication skills, and promotes positive behaviour among children. Using positive parenting techniques promotes a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment. It also sets the foundation for a healthy parent-child relationship that will last a lifetime. Positive parenting is crucial for instilling moral values, good manners, and discipline, which work even during adolescence up to adulthood. Positive parenting helps to boost a child’s cognitive development. Through encouraging positive behaviour and rewarding it, parents can help children to develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills. This can help them to learn to think for themselves, make good decisions as well as aid in school readiness. Positive parenting also builds a stronger and healthier relationship between parents and children. This is because it focuses on fostering a positive and supportive environment, where children feel valued and respected. This can lead to increased communication, trust and mutual respect between parents and children, which can help to prevent conflicts and promote healthy family dynamics. Children who receive consistent praise and positive physical touch tend to experience higher relationship satisfaction than those who experience more aggressive parenting. When caregivers use positive parenting, they teach their children emotional intelligence, which is a crucial factor for healthy relationships. Positive parenting teaches children how to manage their emotions, recognize and understand other’s emotions, and respond appropriately. Nurturing parents are more likely to have children that feel cared about and likewise care about others. Positive parenting reduces disruptive behaviours such as attention problems, hyperactivity, aggression, separation distress, and externalising problems Positive parenting significantly boosts self-esteem and confidence of children. Encouraging children through praise and recognition nurtures positive behaviour, strengthen positive self-image, and build trust. Children can learn and grow better in a safe environment under positive parents thereby increasing their willingness to try new things Communication skills between parents and children are significantly enhanced under positive parenting. Active listening, empathy, and honest communication can help parents build strong communication skills in their children. When children feel heard and understood, they are more likely to express themselves and voice their perspectives, which helps to build practical communication skills. Fostering positive behaviour is another benefit of positive parenting. Positive parenting uses a non-punitive approach that replaces negative behaviours with positive ones. When parents use positive reinforcement to promote positive behaviour, they create an environment of learning and growth. Through this approach, children learn that their actions have consequences and they have the power to make positive choices. In conclusion, positive parenting offers a nurturing and constructive approach to raising children. This is achieved through focusing on building strong parent-child relationships, fostering emotional intelligence, employing positive reinforcement, setting clear boundaries, and prioritizing parental self-care. Positive parenting cultivates an environment that nurtures overall development, adds creativity, selfesteem, relationship goals, and a good sense of well-being among children. A loving and warm parent who supports their children and nurtures their inner spirit empowers them with the intellect and tools that will serve them well into the future. . The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Page 9 02 - 08 February 2024 www.masvingomirror.com Business News ELLEN MLAMBO MIRROR REPORTER MASVINGO- Hippo Valley Estates and Triangle Operations Managing Director (MD)/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Aiden Mhere is retiring on March 31, this year and will be replaced by Tendai Masawi. Head Corporate and Industry Affairs Team Dr Dahlia Garwe confirmed the development to The Mirror in a telephone interview. A statement released by Tongaat Hulett Limited says that Mhere is going into early retirement after serving the sugar producing company for 24 years. He will stay on as an Independent Consultant to the group for a year and assist on issues of strategic importance. The Chairpersons and Boaards of Directors of Hippo Valley Estates Ltd and Triangle Ltd applauded for his contribution in the development and rolling out of the 4 000 hectare Kilimanjaro Sugarcane Project. “Aiden Mhere has elected to proceed on early retirement on 31 March 2024, to allow him to focus on the next phase of his career, following a sterling contribution to the Group over 24 years. Over the last 30 years Aiden contributed in executive roles in the maize meal, flour, cooking oil, sugar and ethanol sectors, having joined TA Holdings Ltd in 1995 and before crossing over to Anglo American Zimbabwe Corporation on 1 November 1999, to provide transformational leadership support to the CEO of Hippo. The organisation was integrated into Tongaat Hulett Limited and he served in several roles. He was appointed as CEO and MD of Hippo and Triangle on 1 December 2019. Aiden has served on several local and regional boards over the years. “Aiden will be remembered as a respectful, practical and reassuring optimist who played a leading role in collaborative stakeholder engagements involving Government, Farmers, Unions, Community Leaders, Shareholders, the Media and Business Partners, through the years. A highlight of his career was his guidance in the conception, development and roll out of the iconic 4 000ha Kilimanjaro Sugarcane Project, officially launched by His Excellency, President Dr E D Mnangagwa, in November 2019, a worthy example of a post-independence private sector led, broad based economic empowerment program,” reads part of the statement. Masawi joined Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe as Milling Operations Director in September 2012. He holds an M Sc. Chemical Engineering (Sugar Technology) degree and is a seasoned sugar technologist with 35 years of regional industrial and corporate management experience. He has held various roles within the Sugar value chain. “Tendai is no stranger to the Zimbabwean operations, which he joined after fulfilling various roles at ZSR Corporation Limited (ZSR), where he started his career in the Sugar Industry in 1988 as a Chemist at Harare Refinery. From there, he picked up several roles such as Operations Manager and General Manager at ZSR Bulawayo and Harare Refineries; and later as Chief Operations Officer and Executive Director for Star Africa Corporation until July 2012. “He joined Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe as Milling Operations Director in September 2012 to be later appointed as Executive: Milling Operations and Technical Services from 2018. He then moved to Mozambique as Managing Director for Tongaat Hulett Mozambique. There he and his team successfully implemented the turnaround of the Mozambican operations and today Xinavane is one of the best performing mills within the Industry. In 2021 he was promoted to the Chief Technical Officer of Tongaat Hulett group. Working closely with the South African operations, him and his team successfully contributed to the turn around and improved performance and efficiencies of our South African mills,” reads the statement. Garwe said Mhere’s retirement is a huge loss to the company and to the sugar industry. “It’s a huge loss to the company and the sugar industry. He is one of the gurus in the industry and the good thing is that he is going to be remaining as a consultant so people can benefit from his great knowledge of the industry. “He is experienced and he was an asset to the company and the organisation will certainly feel the loss. We welcome the incoming CEO who also has been in the sugar industry for a long time. We feel that the two of them working together for 12 month will certainly benefit the company,” said Garwe. Mhere leaves Tongaat in March, Masawi to replace him Aiden Mhere. Tendai Masawi.

The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Business news Page 10 02 - 08 February 2024 www.masvingomirror.com MARTIN MULEYA CHIPINGE TIMES REPORTER MUTARE - Rusape Combined Residents Association (RCRA) has petitioned Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Deputy Minister, Chido Sanyatwe to order the closure of lodges mushrooming in residential areas as they are encouraging and increasing crime. The petition dated January 17, 2024, is also copied to Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Misheck Mugadza and Acting Officer Commanding Police Manicaland, Assistant Commissioner Arnold Makomo. RCRA alleges that the number of murder, theft, sexual abuse of minors and drug abuse cases has rapidly increased as most people booking the lodges are sex workers, thieves and conmen from other towns who are plying their trades in Rusape. "Minister we are appealing to your good office to shut down all indoor lodges especially in Rusape. We have had many encounters where residents are being murdered after having sex with sex workers who are renting at these indoor lodges. Officer (CEO), Aiden Mhere will this year on March 31 make an early retirement after serving the giant sugar producing company for 25 years, The Mirror has been informed. Head Corporate and Industry Affairs Team Dr Dahlia Garwe confirmed the development to The Mirror in a telephone interview. Mhere will stay on as an Independent Consultant to the Group for a period of 12 months further allowing access to his counsel on issues of strategic importance to the respective companies and the sugar industry. Garwe said Mhere’s retirement is a huge loss to the company and to the sugar industry. Garwe also welcomed the incoming CEO Tendai Masawi. RCRA spokesperson, Noel Toto said the most affected areas are R section, UVE, VE, and B. He said most of the indoor lodges are found in the ZBS area. Rusape Town Clerk, James Gabaza said the matter is of a criminal nature and referred all questions to the Police. Acting Manicaland Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said they have not received a formal complaint. "We have not yet received a formal complaint over the matter," he said. The 65 member delegation was led by Masvingo Province Permanent Secretary for Devolution, Dr Addmore Pazvakavambwa. He told The Mirror that they toured the farm to borrow ideas on how they can take up the project. The delegation included chiefs, councillors, farmers and Government officials. "We are here on a learning programme where we are going to grasp farming skills on how we can implement this Lucerne project in the Lowveld. This visit is made up of local traditional leaders, lead farmers and other Government officials and we have great hopes that through this engagement, we will have an appreciation of the product. "As Government, we are going to support these farmers with all requisite skills, trainings and inputs so that they can improve their livelihoods,” he said. Chief Chilonga born John Ben Chilonga said the educational tour will benefit the Chilonga community. "We are here in Kwekwe on a learning programme and we are seeing how fodder can be produced. We have learnt that through fodder supplementary feeding, each dairy cow can produce about 24 liters of milk per day and this is a good project we are also going to undertake. Going back home, we are going to tell others of the good side of the project and we are ready to start," he said. The tour follows an order from the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Dr Anxious Masuka recently. Masuka said that it is important for Chilonga chiefs to get an appreciation of fodder production as they await the Dendairy project to begin. Dendairy Public Relations Officer, Lilian Muungani said their commitment before is to make sure that communities hosting Lucerne projects benefit for the betterment of their livelihoods. MARTIN MULEYA CHIPINGE TIMES REPORTER MUTARE – The Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) has dispelled rumors of maize meal shortages in Manicaland after weeks of supply falling short of demand. The association held a media tour of maize meal wholesalers and retailers in the province early this week to assess stocks and production capacities. GMAZ chairperson, Tafadzwa Musarara told Chipinge Times during the tour that the province requires 400 tonnes of maize meal per week and GMAZ is currently able to supply 1 290 tonnes per week. "We started having supply gaps soon after Christmas and this has been rectified. We are supplying the market threefold than demand. There has been an infiltration of illegal imports and we are now calling on Government to investigate. The country is secure in terms of maize-meal supplies. We contracted farmers to farm 50 000 hectares of maize," he said. Discover the enchanting beauty of Victoria Falls with Mopani Lodge. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Page 17 02 - 08 February 2024 ww.masvingomirror.com Crime and Courts News MIRROR REPORTER MASVINGO – Magistrate Elizabeth Hanzi removed Masvingo ‘lesbians’ Flora Tofa (24) and heavily pregnant Nyasha Chabika (24) from remand on Monday. Their case will proceed by means of summons when the State has finished building a case against them. She freed them after their lawyer Tatenda Nyoka argued that the State is yet to come up with a charge and the duo is pointlessly coming to court to be further remanded. He also produced a medical affidavit stating that Nyasha is heavily pregnant and will give birth soon. “We have attended all court sessions and the State is yet to serve my clients. They should be removed from remand and the State can summon them when it has a case. Nyasha is pregnant and about to give birth, there is no point in them continually coming to court just to be further remanded,” argued Nyoka. Nyasha and Flora have appeared before Magistrate Hanzi four times since December 2, 2023, when they were arrested. They have been further remanded on three occasions as the State is still preparing a case against them. The two were arrested by the Police and charged with violating Section 13 (1) of the Censorship and Entertainment Act, Chapter 10: 04 (publishing the video) Godknows Mugondo prosecuted. THERESA ZIBOWA MIRROR REPORTER CHIVHU — Chikomba District Development Coordinator (DDC), Michael Mariga has lifted a suspension he imposed on four Chikomba Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) councillors after they filed an urgent chamber application challenging the suspension. A letter seen by The Mirror dated January 25, 2024, addressed to the four councillors’ lawyers Mabundu and Ndlovu Legal Practitioners from Mariga’s lawyer Herbert Mutasa of Gill, Godlonton and Gerrans Legal Practitioners confirmed the lifting of the suspension. The four CCC councillors are Collen Zvarevashe (Ward 11), Amos Reza (Ward 10), Fexil Zhakata (Ward 9) and Ishmael Maukazuva (Ward 12). “We refer to the above matter and to our telephone conversation earlier today. During the aforesaid telephone conversation, Ms Ndou told us that your clients will withdraw their urgent chamber application if written undertaking is given on the terms that we proposed to you before. Here now is our clients’ undertaking, your clients will not be hindered from discharging their duties as councillors for their respective wards and your clients’ allowances will not be withheld,” reads the letter. Mariga suspended the quartet after they filed an application for a declarature to nullify all council committees at the High Court in Harare. They are alleging that the committees were imposed by the council chairperson Israel Dhikinya without conducting elections thereby violating the Rural Councils Act. The four CCC councillors then filed an urgent chamber application challenging the suspension. They alleged that they did not receive any official communication notifying them of the suspension. They also argued that Mariga does not have the power to suspend them. Meanwhile the councillors are continuing with their application to nullify all council committees. The quartet initially approached Chivhu Magistrates Court but withdrew the application after agreeing to resolve the matter in a full council meeting with Zanu PF councillors and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bullen Chiwara. THE Sport THE Mirror 02 - 08 February 2024 www.masvingomirror.com masvingo mirror masvingomirror SIMBARASHE MTEMBO MIRROR REPORTER MASVINGO – Wealth flaunting FC Wangu Mazodze is begging for financial assistance from Masvingo City Council. The Masvingo based Zimbabwe Football Associating (ZIFA) Eastern Region Division One club applied to the city begging for affiliation fees for the 2024/25 season. Masvingo City shot down the appeal but allowed the club to use Mucheke Stadium for its training sessions once a week. “Council resolved to recommend that the request by Wangu Mazodze Football Club for financial assistance towards payment of affiliation fees to the 2024 season be turned down given that the Club is privately owned. “That Wangu Mazodze Football Club be granted one day per week free use of Mucheke Stadium for training purposes,” reads Masvingo City Finance and General Purposes Committee meeting minutes held last Tuesday. Club chairperson Trevor Chateuka told The Mirror that he is not aware of the appeal. “For now I don’t have any comment until I communicate with the ones in Masvingo. But how can you say that we are financially unstable while we are opening a new club in the Central Region and still in negotiations with the Northern Region to get a slot there,” he said. Ironically the club registered and affiliated a new team with the ZIFA Central Region Division One league in January. A source told The Mirror that the club has failed to fix a fleet of old busses allegedly bought from Miles Coaches last year. The four busses spent the better part of the 2023/ 24 season parked in a garage in Mucheke and have since been sold off to sustain operations. “The club bought old busses that spent the better part of the 2023/24 season parked in a garage in Mucheke as the club failed to fix them. The team bus was last used on September 17, 2023, when the team travelled to Rusape to face Midway FC at Vhengere Stadium. The club has been using a kombi for its travels since then. We are not sure if they were returned to their previous owners or sold off to sustain operations,” said the source that spoke to The Mirror on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals.
