Sources allege that the officers had demanded US$20 000 to destroy the case. The State is denying bail for the six arguing that they are likely to abscond considering the serious charges that they are facing. The Investigation officer, Eric Chacha told the court that investigations have linked syndicate members to 10 other properties that were fraudulently sold. He said the syndicate has links to a number of Government departments where it managed to get forged identity cards and to get a replacement deed. Bizwork was supposed to appear in another courtroom today in a case in which he forged title deeds to Dr Mutumbuka’s US$600 000 Chisipite house and sold it for just US$45 000. The case had to be postponed. According to the State outline, conveyancing of the property; Number 589 Rietfontein Township of Lot 15 Harare was done at TK Hove and Partners. The law firm’s conveyancing clerk Samson Mushayi is one of the six who was arrested and appeared for bail application today. Mushayi is also accused of creating a duplicate title deed used to sell the house. The State also says Mushayi is the one who facilitated interviews at Zimra and the transfer of the property in the name of the buyers. The other accused are Erick Dube (39), Tedious Marufu (47), Amos Chisvo (43) and Patience Nhope (46). Another suspect only identified as Collen is at large. The State says sometime in 2023, the six connived to defraud unsuspecting buyers and sell them houses. Bizwork hired Patience Nhope and another person only known as Collen to act as sellers of 589 Rietfontein which in actual fact are owned by Octavious Chikonyora and Precious Danda. He managed to get fictitious identity cards for the two sellers of the houses in the name of Chikonyora and Danda. Nhope and collen appeared for interviews at Zimra pretending to be Chikonyora and Danda. Bizwork then brought in Marufu to look for agents to sell the house. Marufu brought in Chisvo and Ndamuka as agents. Mushayi was brought in for conveyancing and allegations are that meetings were held at his offices at TK Hove. Dube advertised the house using a fake name Raphael Dube under a marketing company called Rockwell Land Developers. Max Merrit Msutu and Tariro Chingaya responded to the advert wanting to buy the house. The two insisted that they wanted to use their own conveyance company but they were told that for the purpose of transferring and conveyancing, this was strictly going to happen at TK Hove and Partners. It is the State case that TK Hove did not have the original title deed of the property hence Mushayi created a duplicate deed. After the finalisation of the deal the syndicate which had agreed to share the money equally getting about US$10 000 each did not as others were duped and they got less than US$5 000. The owner of the house who was away only became aware of the deal after a neighbour called him to find out if he had sold the house since he had seen new people tidying up the place. The bail ruling will be on Monday. Another Borrowdale home sold for US$92 000 From page 1 at Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel. It is crucial for those abroad to attend as the showcase will tackle issues designed to empower Zimbabweans in the UK to invest securely in their homeland. There will be panel discussions, presentations by property experts and networking opportunities, said Seeff managing director and licensee Patience Patongamwoyo in an exclusive interview with The Mirror this week. The event has garnered support from estate industry giants. Registration for the showcase which is going on now and entry are both free. The event which is organised by Zim Inspired Limited will start at 10am and close at 5pm and 2 000 visitors are expected. The bulk of exhibitors will come from Harare, Mutare and Bulawayo. “The Zim Diaspora Property Showcase aims to connect property businesses from Zimbabwe with the Zimbabwean community in the UK, addressing the challenges diaspora face in managing and investing in property from afar. “We have heard horror stories of lost investments due to untrustworthy agencies and family members and this event seeks to offer reliable solutions and encourage investment back into Zimbabwe through real estate. “Visitors will have the chance to engage with over 40 exhibitors, including top developers, financial institutions, conveyancers, suppliers, property consultants and a lot more real estate stakeholders. “The event will feature discussion panels, presentations by property experts and networking opportunities, all designed to empower Zimbabweans in the UK to invest securely in their homeland,” said. Patongamwoyo. She said that the showcase will bridge the gap for the Zimbabwean in the Diaspora. “We are really excited about this and the opportunity to bring the whole real estate industry to the UK. We believe this will strengthen and bridge the gap between the Zimbabwean diaspora, a huge and developing market for us and the property industry in Zimbabwe. We are grateful to the other companies within the industry that have chosen to partner us on this journey. It is certainly a winwin situation for all parties involved,” she said. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Local news Page 5 12 - 18 April 2024 www.masvingomirror.com 071 689 5703 Chipinge Times & Two Nations Editor: Ellen Mlambo Editorial Comment In a few days all roads will be leading to Murambinda for Zimbabwe’s 44th Independence Celebrations. Ideally this indeed should be a time for celebration for every citizen of the country irrespective of political affiliation. However for some there will be noting to celebrate about as we continue to experience pockets of division. What picture do we get from the case where ZANU PF officials at a mine were firing miners belonging to the CCC party just because they voted for CCC councillors during the previous national plebiscite? Then we have a case in the border town of Beit Bridge where a ZANU PF official vowed to make sure that CCC youths are not offered employment at a certain security company saying they should get employment at Chamisa’s border posts. Now as we find ourselves staring in the face of a serious drought we are hearing some ZANU PF officials saying that members of the CCC party will not get any food from the government, this while their top brass is assuring the nation that no one will starve. Of course we know that what has been happening before is that the highest officials of ZANU PF will promise food for everyone while coming down to the ground at distribution centres you would see CCC party members going home empty handed after being told to go get food from Chamisa. Some ZANU PF officials even go to the extent of barring CCC members from carrying out development projects in their areas, maybe for fear of losing elections as they would be doing very little in their constituencies themselves. The impression given here is that Zimbabwe belongs to ZANU PF members and they can do whatever they want with it even to the extent of refusing to share it with other Zimbabweans on political grounds. In the given scenario can we then talk of every Zimbabwean fully enjoying Independence Celebrations and other national festivities? If some people are denied rights and services due to them as citizens how can they see themselves fully participating in such national events? ZANU PF members cannot put the country in their own pockets. Zimbabwe belongs to every Zimbabwean. In an independent Zimbabwe no Zimbabwean can be more independent than the other just because of political affiliation. Let every Zimbabwean freely enjoy, celebrate and benefit from the independent Zimbabwe. Where is the Independence? ALVINA CHIWANIKA MIRROR REPORTER ZVISHAVANE – Zvishavane Town Council has procured two refuse trucks, constructed a garden flat in Mandava and rehabilitated its long distance bus terminus using devolution and own funds. The projects and equipment were commissioned by Midlands Minister of State Owen Ncube last Friday. Zvishavane Town Secretary Allan Chaparadza said they used devolution funds and own resources to complete the projects. He said their thrust is to attain smart town status by 2030. "We used devolution funds to procure one truck and we acquired the second one using council's internal funds. The fleet is already collecting garbage and we want to have a clean town. "We also constructed a second block of flats in Mandava for ZWL$124,812,389.00 which is approximately US$ 66 000. The Kandodo bus terminus along Bulawayo road was upgraded and there is now a 21 vendor bay at the terminus,” he said. Ncube commended the local authority for timeously completing its projects. "I commissioned a fleet of vehicles here 53 days ago and today I am back to commission more equipment and projects. This shows that you are working tirelessly. Keep up the good work to archive smart town status by 2030," said Ncube. Zvishavane council commissions 3 projects I will be reunited with my snakes – Gokwe n’anga tells magistrate

The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Page 6 12 - 18 April 2024 www.masvingomirror.com ELLEN MLAMBO MIRROR REPORTER GUTU – It never rains but pours for the late national hero, Brigadier Patius Charles Ruocha’s family. After losing the late Brigadier Ruocha’s wife Grace Gumbo Ruocha, Headman Nerupiri born Burton Nerupiri is demanding US$100 from the bereaved family allegedly because he was not afforded a chance to speak at the burial. Nerupiri and his village head David Mahove also demanded and were allegedly given the hind leg of the slaughtered beast leaving mourners without enough relish. An angry villager said if such could happen to a national hero like Brigadier Ruocha’s wife it means worse things are happening to ordinary villagers. Ruocha was probably the biggest hero of the 1998 DRC war. “Corruption and oppression by traditional leaders are stinking. The problem is that there is no system that they account to,” said the villager. Ruocha received State assisted burial as happens with all national heroes’ wives which means they are not supposed to bear any costs for the burials. She was buried at the Ruocha rural home in Mahove Village, Nerupiri, Gutu two and-half weeks ago. Nerupiri allegedly made the demand for the US$100 through Brigadier Ruocha’s son Passmore. Ruocha’s brother, Obas however disputed allegations that they refused Nerupiri the chance to speak. They said that many people dispersed before the end of the funeral hence the headmen was left with no one to address. Nerupiri confirmed the case to The Mirror but demanded to know the newspaper’s source. He said the people were pre-empting the case because there are no summons that have been issued. Masvingo lawyer, Collen Maboke said the headman’s claims are unlawful. He said it is not mandatory to have a headman talk at a funeral and since the gathering is not a public event, the proceedings are decided by the family. “What transpired is that people left before the burial ended. We couldn’t stop them from leaving the place and this is what we are being blamed of. The burial got State assistance,” said Passmore. “That’s something which just happened, the case was not brought to the court. Who has reported the issue to The Mirror? No one has been summoned to the court. “These people undermined the authority of the headman. It is common knowledge that the headman, village head and councillor are supposed to speak at funerals, making announcements and appreciating the gathering for paying their last respect. To our surprise none of us spoke at the occasion. They voluntarily offered us some left overs of meat, we never requested them to pay us with such,” said Mahove. Headman Nerupiri demands US$100 from late Brigadier Ruocha’s family

The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Page 7 12 - 18 April 2024 www.masvingomirror.com Kwekwe Round up PRISCA MANYIWA-MASUKU MIRROR REPORTER KWEKWE – Mbizo Constituency MP, Corban Madzivanyika is giving the newly introduced Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency no chance of success because the issues that led to the collapse of previous currencies have not been addressed. He also blasted the Reserve bank for ambushing the nation with the new currency and called on Government to fully dollarize. Madzivanyika said there is no confidence and trust in the currency with Government itself being the biggest culprit by refusing to accept it in the payment of passports, birth certificates, electricity, fuel, taxe and duty at the border. He also said crucial factors like disputed elections, financial discipline and corruption needed to be addressed and boost confidence before the introduction of the ZIG currency. “The ZIG currency like all others before it is doomed to fail because the real problems have not been addressed. We need to have confidence in ZIG for it to succeed but as it is even Government does not have confidence in the currency. “Government must be the first to show confidence in their own currency and to do that all vital services such as Central registry fees (Passports, birth certificates etc), electricity, fuel, vehicle licensing, Toll fees and all statutory fines should be exclusively payable in ZiG,” said Madzivanyika. “No economy will flourish when the political leadership ‘s ascendancy to power is disputed,” he said. “In light of the impending failure of ZIG, I suggest full dolarisation of the economy because RBZ in its Monetary policy pronouncement, admitted that 80% of Zimbabwe’ s transactions are now in USD which means that the country has dollarized. “This will eliminate the Exchange rate volatility and hyper inflation at least in the short to medium term,” he said. The new Zim dollar will fail again - Mbizo MP PRISCA MANYIWA-MASUKU KWEKWE – Heavy water leakages that the City of Kwekwe is facing, causing shortages of the precious liquid are likely to continue for a long time because there is no financial capacity to upgrade the water system, deputy director of works, Engineer Vincent Mutambirwa has said. Mutambirwa was responding to questions raised by Councilor Alfonce Mugwagwa during a recent full council meeting. Mugwagwa had called upon the Engineering Department to attend to serious and persistent leaks in Ward 13. He complained that the alerts on water leakages were falling on deaf ears. Mutambirwa told city fathers that as much as the problem of water leakages was urgent, there was no funding to deal with it. He said the water system actually needs a major upgrade because the pipes were old and the population served had grown exponentially. “The elephant in the room is funding, we need a lot of money to revamp our water distribution system. We haven’t done system upgrade to match our growing population. Council is underfunded, our revenue inflows are low. We cannot eliminate leaks without adequate funding,” said Mutambirwa. Mugwagwa said he had been reporting leaks in his ward for a long time. “May the works department come to our rescue in ward 13. We are having serious water leakages and I have been reporting this challenge for some time but nothing is happening,” said Mugwagwa. The mayor, Albert Zinhanga however urged the department of works to come up with a work plan on all areas that needs attention. “I call upon the Works Department to come up with a plan in all areas with water leakages so that we see how we can address the issue of funding,” said Zinhanga. No solution in sight for Kwekwe water leakages Corban Madzivanyika. Albert Zinhanga.

Winfildah told The Mirror on the side-line of the Midlands Business Indaba held at a Kwekwe Hotel last Saturday that they have created the Red Diamond Network to incorporate PWDs into entrepreneurship. “We have come up with a strategy for PWDs to venture into business under the Red Diamond Network which we have designed. We will have a separate program such as today’s indaba and it will focus on the Red Diamond Network. The program will unpack what the Red Diamond Network is all about,” said Dangarembizi. Arthur Marara who was a guest speaker at the business indaba said Government needs to come with programs that equip PWDs to become entrepreneurs. “I think now we need to be proactive in terms of coming up with programs where we basically have to equip them. The default for many PWDs is resolving to beg and we need to break that cycle. I really think that the private sector and Government should come together to equip them,” he said. Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko told The Mirror that the robbery occurred around 1 am. He said the unidentified robbers where armed with axes and logs. Chari, his family and workers were assaulted. Circumstances are that the thieves broke into the house behind the shop around 1 am. They were armed with axes and logs and demanded cash from Chari and his employee. The four robbers assaulted him, his wife, children and the shop attendant and proceeded to steal US$9 900, ZAR3 000, a Taurus revolver loaded with 28 rounds and 5 mobile phones and went away. Chari filed a Police report. The revolver was found in his yard in the morning. Mahoko urged the public to desist from keeping huge sums of money at their place of residence. “We are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects. We further urge members of the public not to keep large sums of money in their premises,” said Inspector Mahoko. Gokwe businessman loses US$10k to armed robbers SYDNEY MUBAIWA MIDLANDS BUREAU REDCLIFF - Redcliff Town Council is offering a 60% discount to residents and ratepayers who pay their service bills in US$. Redcliff Mayor Vincent Musiiwa urged residents to take advantage of the initiative in an interview with The Mirror. He said the initiative is to raise money to pay off a water debt owed to Kwekwe City Council. "We have introduced a 60% discount to all residents and ratepayers who pay their bills in United States Dollars. The development is aimed at increasing our revenue base so that we can our water bill to Kwekwe City. Kwekwe is willing to give us a discount if we pay in United States Dollars," he said. Zisco Steel treated and distributed water to Redcliff residents before it began facing financial hardships. Redcliff now gets its water from Kwekwe but has been failing to pay its service bill. The town can at times go for weeks without tap water leaving residents stranded. Some rely on contaminated water from rivers and streams that are contaminated with cyanide used by illegal miners in the area. Maria Hlaisi, a Redcliff resident urged the local authority to find a lasting solution to the water problem. "As residents, we suggest that council should come in the open with a total budget required to solve the water problem. They should also approach the resident minister and the corporate world to find a lasting solution to the problem," she said. Redcliff offering 60% for bills paid in US$ Vincent Musiiwa. Gukwe appeared at Chiredzi Regional Court, facing one count of theft and one count of corruption. He is being represented by Prince Ganyani of PC Ganyani Law Firm, Charles Vhudzi of Vhudzi and associates Law Firm and Rita Chakauya of Muzenda and Chitsama Legal Practitioners. Magistrate Vimbai Mutukwa heard that in January 2024 Gukwe instructed Brighton Muza, a truck driver of a truck registration number AGJ 7704 belonging to Muguju Transport to collect 300 by 50 kg bags of compound L fertilizer from Cottco Kadoma depot. On 11 January 2024, Cottco Kadoma transferred the 300 bags to Cottco Chiredzi Business Unit under internal movement of fixed items documents. Muza collected the 300 bags of fertilizers but did not deliver them to Chiredzi depot but diverted them to an unknown destination. The court also heard that on 22 January 2024, Gukwe instructed Muza to go to Chiredzi Bussiness Unit with internal movement of fixed item document for transfer of 300 by 50 kg bags compound L fertilizers claiming that the fertilizers were delivered at Ngundu transit Depot. Stores person at Chiredzi depot then querried why the document for fertilizers that were collected on 11 January 2024 was presented on 22 January 2024 and Muza said he was busy transporting other loads. Total cost of the fertilizer is US10 500 On count two it is alleged that in 2022, Gukwe hatched a plan to siphon money from Cotco by saying that he would get a truck to contract to Cottco depot at favourable rates. Gukwe then bought two trucks and registered them in the name of Regis Chivaura. The registration number for the trucks are AFS 2424 and AFU 4824. Gukwe using his position would give the trucks frequent contracts and facilitate propmt payments. Gukwe got US122 421.47 from using his trucks at Cotrco. Prosector Ronald Kwangware opposed bail and ZACC Investigating Officer Taurai Andrew Ziyambe argued Gukwe would interfere with investigations. Chiredzi Cottco manager remanded in custody over corruption SIMBARASHE MTEMBO MIRROR REPORTER MASVINGO – Ngonidzashe ‘Soda water’ Kanengoni (40) notorious for shooting and killing a tuck-shop owner feigned mental illness again when he appeared at the High Court in Masvingo three weeks ago to answer to charges of murder. Kanengoni shot and killed Mike Munhungowarwa who operated a tuck shop in Sisk, Mucheke in Masvingo in January 2023. Justice Mawadze ordered that Kanengoni be tested for mental fitness after he failed to answer questions directed at him by the judge. He kept gazing into the distance, murmuring to himself, following and ducking some unseen objects and at one time as Justice Mawadze was addressing him he acted like he was opening an imaginary window. His pro deo lawyer Tatenda Nyoka applied for an order for mental examination arguing that he also failed to engage the suspect. Nyoka said he did not receive any in- structions from Kanengoni who is seem- ingly hallucinating most of the time. Justice Mawadze ordered that he be examined by two doctors before his next appearance in court on May 7, 2024, when the High Court mid-year term begins. However, this is not the first time that his mental challenge problems have been dismissed. During his trial for unlawful entry, possession of firearm and robbery for which he was slapped with a 22-year sentence by the magistrates court, he alleged that he was seeing vultures in court, bees were stinging him and could not speak because of illness and a tooth ache. Magistrate Bishard Chineka slapped him with the jail sentence after two doctors concluded that he was mentally stable and fit for trial. “My lord I am a creature of instruction and I have not received any instructions from the accused. He was examined three times last year and there is a need for new examinations as the old ones cannot be relied upon for the purposes of this trial. He was examined by Dr Simbarashe Jena on May 2, 2023, at Masvingo Provincial Hospital and he concluded that Kanengoni is mentally stable. “Dr Leeroy Mahomba examined him on May 8, 2023, at the same hospital and concluded that he was having visual and auditory hallucinations. Dr Delight Chiwororo examined him on May 18, 2023, and concluded that Kanengoni is well oriented,” said Nyoka. Emmanuel Matose prosecuted. Suspected murderer Kanengoni feigns mentally illness again

The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Crime & Courts news Page 13 12 - 18 April 2024 www.masvingomirror.com INCREASE GUMBO MIRROR REPORTER CHIREDZI - The trial of former Chiredzi Town Council chairperson Francis Moyo has been postponed for a second time because the State is still carrying out investigations. Magistrate Vimbai Mutukwa postponed the trial to May 3, 2024, last Friday. Moyo is being charged with abuse of duty as a public officer in terms of Section 174 of the Criminal Law (codification and reform) Act chapter 9: 23. He was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) in February. His arrest emanates from a Government investigation into goings-on at the local authority which resulted in a report titled Investigation Report on Chiredzi March – April 2016. Although submitted in 2016, the report was only released by Minister of Local Government and Public Works, July Moyo, last year after pressure from Boniface Mutemachani (65) of Hippo Valley Estates and Clemence Saidi (67) of 1742 Javangwe in Ward 6 who engaged lawyers. The allegations are that Moyo was implicated in a scam in which 50 commonage stands were sold for US$60 000. The said Chiredzi Town Council submitted 50 high density stands (stand numbers 7851-7900) to the Ministry of Local Government as Commonage. The commonage stands were then allocated by the Ministry to Trinity Mutsetse after an application by his company, Inotrade Investments (Pvt) Ltd, on February 5, 2014 for housing development in Tshovani Township. It is alleged that the application was approved dubiously because there was no allocation memorandum from the State Land Management for approval by the Permanent Secretary. It is further alleged that Mutsetse, who allegedly had no financial capacity then roped in Justin Chauke Housing Cooperative which was the brainchild of councillor Moyo resulting in the area being referred to as ‘KwaFrango’. The agreement was that Inotrade would provide 50 stands to Moyo’s cooperative and in return Inotrade would become first choice supplier of services and construction materials. The stands were sold for US$1 200 disguised as registration fee and an additional US$95 being administration fee to people on Chiredzi Town Council waiting list despite that some were not members of the cooperative. The 50 stands were sold for US$60 000 and to date the Government suffered a prejudice of US$60 000 being the land intrinsic value. Moyo was a signatory to the housing cooperative’s CBZ main account 012824001170014. Rutendo Ndibwo prosecuted. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa s Page 14 12 - 18 April 2024 www.masvingomirror.com International News UK ministers considering banning sale of smartphones to under-16s Polls show significant support for curb to protect children but some Tories uneasy with idea of government ‘microparenting’ Ministers are considering banning the sale of smartphones to children under the age of 16 after a number of polls have shown significant public support for such a curb. The government issued guidance on the use of mobile phones in English schools two months ago, but other curbs are said to have been considered to better protect children after a number of campaigns. Esther Ghey, the mother of 16-year-old Brianna, who was murdered last year, has been campaigning for an age limit for smartphone usage and stricter controls on access to social media apps. Ghey told the BBC in February: “We’d like a law introduced so that there are mobile phones that are only suitable for under-16s … So if you’re over 16 you can have an adult phone, but then under the age of 16, you can have a children’s phone, which will not have all of the social media apps that are out there now.” A March survey by Parentkind, of 2,496 parents of school-age children in England, found 58% of parents believe the government should ban smartphones for under-16s. It also found more than four in five parents said they felt smartphones were “harmful” to children and young people. If you really want kids to spend less time online, make space for them in the real world Another survey by More in Common revealed 64% of people thought that a ban on selling smartphones to under16s would be a good idea, compared with 20% who said it was a bad idea. The curb was even popular among 2019 Tory voters, according to the thinktank, which found 72% backed a ban, as did 61% of Labour voters. But the thought of another ban has left some Conservatives uneasy. One Tory government source described the idea as “out of touch”, noting: “It’s not the government’s role to step in and microparent; we’re meant to make parents more aware of the powers they have like restrictions on websites, apps and even the use of parental control apps.” They said only in extreme cases could the government “parent better than actual parents and guardians”. A government spokesperson said: “We do not comment on speculation. Our commitment to making the UK the safest place to be a child online is unwavering, as evidenced by our landmark Online Safety Act.” Rishi Sunak is already braced for a backlash to his plan to ban the next generation from being able to buy cigarettes. Anyone born on or after 1 January 2009 – in effect anyone who is 14 or younger now – will not legally be able to buy cigarettes in England during their lives as the smoking age is raised by one year every year, subject to MPs’ approval, under the plans first reported in the Guardian. The policy was first announced at Conservative party conference last year. But since, then, the Conservative government of New Zealand has said it will revoke the country’s own policy on banning smoking. www.theguardian.com

The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Page 15 12 - 18 April 2024 BY PRINCE MACHAYA HARARE – Starlink is disabling its high speed satellite internet service to Zimbabwe at the request of authorities, the American company said in e-mails to customers. Starlink, whose internet service is now available in over 70 countries, is not licenced to operate in Zimbabwe but that has not stopped locals from acquiring kits from neighbouring countries including Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique. “You are currently using Starlink from unauthorised territory. As a result, Starlink has been directed by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) to disable your service,” an e-mail sent to Zimbabwean subscribers of the service said. Starlink, a product of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, said it would “continue to work with POTRAZ to obtain necessary regulatory approvals to turn on Starlink services in Zimbabwe as soon as possible.” POTRAZ maintains that it has not received Starlink’s application to provide internet services in Zimbabwe. On its website, Starlink says its service in Zimbabwe will start in the third quarter of 2024 – between July and September. Zimbabweans frustrated by low speed internet have been clamouring for Starlink to be licenced, but some government officials have voiced security concerns seeing the service as a threat to tight government controls of telecommunications services in the country. Space exploration company SpaceX began launching Starlink satellites in 2019. By early March 2024, the constellation comprised more than 6,000 small satellites orbiting Earth at low altitudes. Starlink users typically experience download speeds between 25 and 220 Mbps, with a majority of users experiencing speeds over 100 Mbps. Many Zimbabweans see opportunity in Starlink with its ability to connect the remotest parts of the country to internet services, although the service is relatively expensive. A kit comprising one Starlink dish, a dish mount, and a Wi-Fi router base unit costs between US$450 and US$500. In Zambia, which has licenced Starlink, customers pay US$36 monthly subscription for unlimited low latency internet. www.zimlive.com Zimbabwe asks Starlink to switch off internet service to local customers 'We will continue to work with POTRAZ to obtain necessary regulatory approvals to turn on Starlink services in Zimbabwe'

The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Religious news Page17 12 - 18 April 2024 www.masvingomirror.com BY FR ISIAH DHLIWAYO The doctrine of Soteriology is the acme of Christian theology. But according to Brian Gaybba (1988:6),the concept of salvation is not exclusively Christian. The etymology of the term soteriology is from the Greek words soter,"saviour"and soteria,"salvation". Soteriology denotes the doctrine of salvation.Theologically,we can distinguish two concepts of soteriology, that is subjective and objective salvation. In this theological reflection,I will define , highlight and reflect on soteriology, the doctrine of salvation as inclusive of the person and work of Christ. In other words soteriology and Christology are understood to be mutually inclusive. Thus , Theologically,we can therefore distinguish two concepts of Soteriology, that is, subjective and objective salvation. In Christian theology ,the term salvation (soteriology) is used to express God's provision for the plight of humans. It is a term associated with being saved or delivered from danger or the threat of death. It is also explained thus ," The sense of rescue or deliverance is still uppermost but the reference is deliverance from sin and the wrath of God as the ultimate fate which awaits the sinner."(Ferguson S.B.1988:610). Ferguson sees it not unfair to say that the title of God and Jesus as "savior" sums up the Christian doctrine of God in relation to His people. Soteriology, the doctrine of salvation, embraces all of time as well as eternity past and future. It relates in one way or another to all of mankind, without exception. Soteriology has ramifications in the sphere of the angels and it is the theme of both the Old and New Testaments. It is personal, national, and cosmic. And it centers on the greatest Person, our Lord Jesus Christ. In Christianity, soteriology is inextricably linked with Christology, for both fields centralize the significance of Christ as savior. Christian soteriology, then, developed vis-à-vis the process of defining doctrinally who Jesus is and what his life, death, and resurrection mean for humankind. Objective Salvation and Subjective Salvation. This refers to what Jesus already achieved -the saved situation.Subjective salvation refers to humanity's participation or involvement in their redemption.Salvation is inclusive of both what Jesus has achieved and our sharing in it.Objective and subjective salvation then implies the already-and - not yet. These complement each other. Objective salvation has several aspects that include:(1)The risen life. The understanding that the saved situation exists in that a human being Jesus Christ ,the God -man having conquered sin ,death and the devil.(2) Reconciliation between God and humanity.(3) The winning of forgiveness.(4)The winning of graces.(5) The opening of heaven's gates Subjective Salvation also takes note of several aspects:(1)Sharing in Jesus' unity with the Father-Justification by faith (Protestant position ) and sanctification (Roman Catholic stance).(2) Benefitting from the transforming power of Jesus ' Spirit.(3) Building up community between people.(4)Humanizing our environment. The theory of the Cross of Christ as a moral example has its protagonist in Peter Abelard. There is dialectic between objective and subjective aspects of salvation (of humanity) from sin and its consequences.Abelard's basic presupposition is that in the incarnation, life ,death and suffering of Christ , humanity has an epitome or example of supreme love.Salvation is subjective or is a human effort in that the Christ -event evokes a response of love (Culpepper 1966,1988:88-91;cf . Abelard's Epitome of Christian Theology and Commentary to the Romans.;McGrath 1994 ,1997:404-408.) Gaybba(1988:64-65) notes that the metaphorical use of ransom in denoting the soteriological importance of the suffering and death of Christ is both good and biblical.,with emphasis on the fact that the liberation of humanity from sin by God was dearly costly to both God and Jesus. It is true that sin is oppressive and enslaving. Thus God does not hold humanity in bondage. However the reverse is true of God ,that is the Cross of Christ is God's gift to humanity.(Aulen 1970:49-50) Concerning God's redemptive action in history, salvation was first understood in exclusive terms of the God -Israel covenant relationship. In Israel 's linear conception of time and the eschatological hope of God leading humanity and history to a definitive end - encapsulated in the apocalyptic - eschatological Day of Yahweh, salvation was understood in universalistic terms-as inclusive of other nations or all people. However there is also reformed doctrine of soteriology whose main thrust is about the idea that God sits outside of time (which is absolutely true), so when God created the world, he looked into the future and saw who would choose to believe the gospel and who would not. And it was those people who he foresaw would have faith that he elected (or predestined) for salvation. Reformed theology focuses on theology shared with Lutheranism and Anglicanism a commitment to the generic doctrines of the Protestant Reformation: justification by grace through faith; the sufficiency and normative authority of Scripture alone; and a basic opposition to the sacramental system and the magisterial authority of the church. Reformed churches are also Protestant churches—rejecting the claims of the Pope to be the Head of the Church, acknowledging instead that Jesus Christ is the Head of his Church, and that he rules and governs his Church by his Word and Spirit. The reformed position, about soteriology is that God saves sinners, completely and entirely of his own free will and action (that's “monergism”). We absolutely believe that people act and choose. God accomplishes his purpose through people and through means. According to John Hendryx ,Monergism strips us of all hope to ourselves, reveals our spiritual bankruptcy apart from Christ, and thus leads us to give all glory to God alone for our salvation. As long as we think we contributed something, even a little bit (like good intentions) then we still think deep down that God saves us for something good he sees in us over our neighbor. But this is clearly not the case. Only Jesus makes us to differ from anyone else. We are all sinners and can boast in nothing before God, including the desire for faith in Christ (Phil 1:29, Eph 2:8, 2 Tim 2:25). ©09/04/2024 Theological Reflections on Soteriology- (The Doctrine of Salvation)

The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Sports news Page 21 12 - 18 April 2024 www.masvingomirror.com Liverpool ‘lost the plot’ after being rocked by Atalanta in Europa League quarterfinal Liverpool and its manager Jürgen Klopp were left stunned after losing 3-0 at home in the first leg of its Europa League quarterfinal against Italian side Atalanta on Thursday. Atalanta, currently sixth in Serie A, could have scored more at Anfield had it not been for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. Given Liverpool’s formidable form in the English Premier League – Klopp’s men are second with just goal difference separating them from table topping Arsenal – very few would have seen this result coming, and it leaves Liverpool with a mountain to climb in the second leg on April 18 if the Reds are to progress to the semifinals. “We can make the shortest press conference of all time, it just was a really bad game, oh my God,” Klopp told reporters after what could have been his last European night at Anfield. “I think even before they scored we just lost the plot a little bit, like we were everywhere and nowhere.” A result no one saw coming The game had started at a frantic pace with both sides having opportunities to score. Atalanta came closest, denied in the third minute by a stunning save from Kelleher. The Irishman rushed off his line with Mario Pašalić seemingly certain to score, blocking the shot with his face. Liverpool then started growing into the game and missed a number of chances to score, Darwin Núñez getting his finish all wrong before Harvey Elliot hit the woodwork in the 26th minute. But Atalanta broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when Gianluca Scamacca’s effort found a way past Kelleher. The goalkeeper probably should have done better, but he quickly redeemed himself with another smart save against Teun Koopmeiners to stop Liverpool going 2-0 down moments before half time. In search of an equalizer, Klopp introduced Mohamed Salah after the break and the Egyptian almost made an instant impact. His fine effort, though, was well saved by Juan Musso as Atalanta’s defence stood firm. The extra attacking impetus from Liverpool seemed to play into Atalanta’s hands and Scamacca doubled his team’s lead on the hour mark after being left unmarked at the back post. The goal sparked panic at Anfield as Liverpool went searching for a goal to help reduce the deficit. Salah thought he had done so in the 79th minute but the forward was flagged for offside. Related article Kylian Mbappé and PSG suffer dent to Champions League dream after defeat to resurgent Barcelona The misery was only compounded as more defensive fragility from the host afforded Atalanta a chance to score its third – this time it was Pašalić who turned in the rebound after another smart save from Kelleher. Atalanta players celebrated its famous Anfield win following the final whistle, but there is still another 90 minutes to play in Italy next week. Liverpool does have a history of comebacks in Europe – not least when it turned over a 3-0 result against Barcelona in the Champions League semifinal in 2019. Klopp, though, did not want to speculate on the return leg, focusing instead on Liverpool’s next Premier League fixture, against Crystal Palace, at the weekend. “We try to win the game there and then we will see what we can do from there, but it’s now not the moment for having a big mouth,” he said. “This was probably a low point for us performance-wise, I would say, for a long time, so I think it should be possible to play a little bit better. If we can play a little bit better then we can play much better as well.” After Klopp announced his decision to step down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season, many involved with the club had hoped to send him off with another European trophy. Fans had earmarked the Europa League final in Dublin, Ireland, as Klopp’s potential last game in charge, but those plans now seem in jeopardy. cnn.com

THE Sport Mirror 12 - 18 April 2024 www.masvingomirror.com masvingo mirror masvingomirror INCREASE GUMBO MIRROR REPORTER CHIREDZI – Living with albinism is not easy, Triangle FC, one of the top soccer team’s long serving medic Ashual Chikandiwa has said. Born at Triangle in Chiredzi, Chikandiwa who has served the club for 26 years said his journey in football has not been easy due to his condition. Some people stigmatized him because they think people with albinism can be used as juju and he was therefore employed at Triangle FC for that purpose. He also said at secondary school he had to drop Maths as a subject because the teacher could not understand of his poor eyesight which is a natural condition for people with albinism. "It has not been an easy journey due to my condition especially when the Club was in the Premier League. Some soccer lovers thought I was used for juju by my team and I suffered social exclusion and stigmatisation," said Chikandiwa. Chikandiwa joined Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe (THZ) in 1998 as the company's nurse aid and became the Club medic in 2007. He however, is happy to say that he managed to overlook all that and soldiered on. Born in 1978, Chikandiwa is married to a beautiful wife Faith and the two are blessed with three kids. "Growing up as a person with albinism is not easy. Some teachers did not understand my condition. People with albinism tend to have poor eyesight so my Maths teacher would not understand it and he would be rude to me and I ended up dropping the subject," said Chikandiwa. He however said things are changing now and some people now understand his disability. Chikandiwa is also a holder of certificate in sports medicine from Mars. He encouraged People with Disability (PWD)s not to look down upon themselves whatever situation they might be facing. "Disability does not mean inability. Let’s not look down upon ourselves, we have the capacity to participate in activity in life," said Chikandiwa. Living with albinism is not easy – Triangle Football Club medic Ashual Chikandiwa.
