PriceGuide: US$16 500 GARIKAI MAFIRAKUREVA HARARE - The case involving Dzingai Mutumbuka's US$600 000 Chisipite house in Harare which was allegedly sold by fraudsters has been postponed for the umpteenth time after Detective Constable Tafadzwa Marashe brought his statement a few minutes before trial. This led the accused’s lawyers to ask for time to go through it. The trial of the matter which has been dragging on for almost three years was postponed by Magistrate Ethel Chichera to February 8, 2024. It is alleged that Tatenda ‘Shaft’ Wakatama (44) of 10049 Unit H Seke Chitungwiza, Prosper Bizwek (43) of 15331 New Zengeza 4, Seke Chitungwiza and Jonah Ngome of 13819 Kuwadzana Extension with the assistance of a Deeds officer connived on June 22, 2021 to forge Mutumbuka's title deed 4480/88 into Ngome's name. Mutumbuka who is Zimbabwe's first Minister of Education is now based in the United States and he is being represented by Dzikamai Danha who has his power of attorney. It is alleged the trio then advertised the house and Harrison Marange and his wife Demetria Zirenga agreed to buy it for only US$140 000. They paid US$45,000 only and were given the title deeds. The agreement of sale was prepared by lawyer Kenias Mutyasira. When Mutumbuka got wind of the deal he reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of Wakatama and Bizwek in October 2021, but Ngome is still at large. They were arraigned before the courts facing forgery charges. However, the trial that was supposed to begin on November 9, 2023, was postponed to November 29, January 16, 2024, January 24, 2024 and now February 8. The Registrar of Deeds is one of the witnesses and he will testify that the house belongs to Mutumbuka and indeed the title deed was forged. It puts paid to conservative Zimbabweans who castigated Nyasha and her partner Flora Tofa for being lesbians. Nyasha could be bisexual after all. The sources said Nyasha has a steady relationship with her boyfriend suspected to be the author of the pregnancy. The two are always seen together, said sources. Chabika who still visits entertainment places is pregnant, said several trusted sources. Nyasha did not pick calls from The Mirror. Another source said she no longer answers calls from numbers that are not saved in her phone book. The Mirror has a picture that show that Nyasha is pregnant. Nyasha appeared in the video licking Tofa’s private parts. Tofa could be heard screaming and calling out Nyasha’s name as they enjoyed the intimate moments. The two were arrested by the Police and charged with charged with violating Section 13 (1) of the Censorship and Entertainment Act, Chapter 10:04 (publishing the video). They were remanded out of custody after paying bail of ZWL$100 000 each. Efforts to get a comment from Tofa were futile. Masvingo’s ‘gay’ Nyasha heavily pregnant Dr Dzingai Mutumbuka. Nyash
The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Local news Page 3 26 January - 01 February 2024 www.masvingomirror.com Person of The Year 2024 Water is life! Nothing can be added to the adage. The Mirror’s Person of The Year 2023 is Masvingo Town Clerk, Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa. He has given life to 92 000 residents of the Ancient City. By implementing various strategies, Mukaratirwa who was appointed town clerk in June 2021 increased Masvingo’s water supply from 8 million to 30 million litres a day bringing the City’s water deficit to within 15 million litres a day. This saw residents who used to get water once in two weeks, getting it every day. Mukaratirwa’s target is to give Masvingo uninterrupted water supply within the next three years. This is no mean achievement in a country where residents in some cities have gone for 20 years without tape water. The Mirror’s choice of Eng Mukaratirwa as The 2024 Person of The Year was obvious and easy. Zimbabwe, now more than ever before needs servant leadership and managers who can take the country forward. The country needs managers who bring about development more than they are focussed on accumulation of personal wealth. Eng Mukaratirwa’s work has had a positive impact on 92 000 residents. No investor goes to a city where there is no water. Mukaratirwa is bringing back mordenity to a City that has been sliding backwards with thousands of women and children queueing at night at boreholes for water. Quite a number of residents were murdered as they fetched water at night while a number of women were raped. Residents fetched water from unprotected sources and used buckets to flash toilets. This has been wiped out. Today residents go under a shower in the morning and gardens are watered with tape water from the council. The turn around was not easy. It involved robust restructuring of the water engineering department with heads of senior managers rolling. It also involved meticulous attention to detail as the City dealt with factors that caused the collapse of the water system. Humanitarian Organisation of The Year The Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference (ZCBC) is the Humanitarian Organisation of The Year. This Church stayed alert and defended people’s rights during the August 23, 2023 Harmonised Elections. The Roman catholic is probably the only church which spoke for the people before, during and after the elections. The bishops’ voice was unique at a time when most churches were reduced to praise singers. It is probably the only church organisation Zimbabwe that spoke truth to the power over issues of voters’ rights and electoral intimidation. Some quotable quotes from ZCBC; “Do not be intimidated, coerced or manipulated to vote against your will. Refuse to be used in violent attacks against your fellow brothers and sisters. Any party or politician that incites violence or persuades you to join in violent attacks is not worth your vote.” “In reflection, on the election challenges, ZCBC encourage ZEC to give an account to the nation about the delays and procurement of voting material and the missing names on the voters’ role. The opening of polling stations during the night may surely bring to question the preparedness of ZEC for the just ended election.” • Improved Masvingo’s water supply 4-fold To page 6 Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa Archbishop Robert Christopher Ndlovu. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Local news Page 4 26 January - 01 February 2024 www.masvingomirror.com 071 689 5703 Chipinge Times & Two Nations Editor: Ellen Mlambo Editorial Comment Chibhorani Talk With Sekuru Taurai City fathers behaving like land barons It would seem that the issue of land will be for Zimbabweans a hot potato for a long to time to come. One of the main reasons for the armed struggle was that of land. Once land became available after independence people were allowed to grab whatever land they could settle on while some went on to sell land that they grabbed free of charge in order to enrich themselves. For a long time now we have been witnessing people settling and being settled on wetlands and other places not suitable for human habitation. Surprisingly the government is only now waking up to the situation to evict people who have lived in these areas for more than twenty years. The question is why were they not stopped to settle when they moved into these areas? It is not as if these people secretly settled in the dark with no one noticing what was happening. Definitely the police knew, the traditional leaders knew, the councillors knew but nothing was done. Coming to urban areas we have for a long time been witnessing councils and land barons selling residential and commercial stands situated in wetlands and river banks. Desperate home seekers are tempted to buy these stands and build their houses but almost every rain season these houses are flooded and they end up losing a lot of their property. During the crisis these people are promised new stands somewhere else and some compensation but nothing happens and the process is repeated every year. As it is the headmen and kraal heads who settled people in gazetted areas are being arrested together with the settlers under operation ‘No to Land Barons’. What is happening to the city fathers who allow their councils to sell stands in wetlands and river banks? Shouldn’t they be receiving the same treatment as those traditional leaders in rural areas? The toilet pachibhorani WITH SEKURU TAURAI The Shona being very grateful people say, “Kusatenda uroyi,” this in an effort to encourage everyone to be grateful. The white colonialist brought with him an evil called colonialism that left us colonised. However he also brought some good things we did adopt and continue to utilise and benefit from. Like the good Shona people it is proper that we all Chibhoraniland citizens be grateful and say thank you murungu, otherwise we will become witches. Now one of the good things the white colonialist gave us is that little room he calls the toilet. No need to describe what happens there. You see, before the advent of the toilet our ancestors used to relieve themselves in the open behind bushes, anthills, trees and boulders. To clean themselves up they used the leaves of the bush in front of them with some using grass or maguri. Of course squatting in the open air offered its advantages of fresh air and sunshine but challenges arose when one had to relieve himself or herself while it was raining. This way of waste disposal had unwelcome consequences that resulted in diseases and the resultant death. Today most of us have used and continue to use the toilet on a daily basis, which is good. Of major concern however is how that little room is used. Think of a toilet in Chibhoraniland and what comes to mind is a little room whose floor is all wet with urine and decorat- ed by heaps of human feces. You can top it all up with the horrible resultant smell. Now one thing to note is that most of us, if not all of us males find it very very difficult to accurately direct our urine into the small pit latrine hole that has the shape of the base of a clothes iron. I am not sure how females urinate in the blair toilet but as for men no matter how much you try to be accurate you will often spill your urine onto the floor. Then of course the careless ones and the drunken will make the situation worse and it becomes worst as more and more people come in to relieve themselves standing farther and farther from the little hole in order to avoid stepping on the urine and feces on the floor. Get into the modern toilet that uses the flushing system and you will still see males missing the wide opening of the toilet chamber when urinating. Females do it while standing, I am told so they don’t mess up. Ladies and gents of Chibhoraniland let us thank the colonialist for giving us the toilet. However we need to admit that we have failed to use it properly and make a resolution to mend our ways and learn how to properly relieve ourselves in the little room. I had to say this unsavoury as it is because it had to be said. Ndazvitaura ndini wenyu Sekuru Taurai. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Hoth Page 6 26 January - 01 February 2024 www.masvingomirror.com Hello everybody compliments of the season. It has been a while since I had a chit-chat with you my fellow countrymen. HOTH is back with a bang. A lot has been happening behind the scenes. Even the notorious Chabangu, Chabengula whatever the case might be, has managed to cause a lot of mayhem in the political arena. South Africa dragged the Israelis to the International Criminal Court of Justice and in retaliation, Israel removed direct flights from Johannesburg to Tel Aviv. Even near us, the courts ruled that an impostor who came right straight from the blues and started recalling duly elected Members of Parliament is the party’s SG. The courts actually handed him the party on a silver platter. The best enumerator in the country has been given another six-year term after she made a record-breaking announcement of the presidential results in less than 24 hours, a feat that no other enumerator came close to in the country’s 44-year history. She also had the best mathematical results totalling over 100%. Ko mozodei henyu? Even the president of the main opposition had called it quits and left Chabangu or Musoro Bhangu marooned in the middle of nowhere trying to drive an engineless car. You should have seen how the Gumbakumba Club apologists are angry with that move. Hanzi hee, he abandoned his supporters. Heee, he is a coward and a deserter yada yada. Ko imi marwadziwa nei? This is what happens when people hate you so much and you just decide to leave them whenever they push you out. A lot of people particularly politicians would go to town dissing Uncle Bob, (MHSRIP) blaming him for failing to run the country until they forced him out. Now who is to blame? The whole blame is on them. That’s how Karma works. If you try to bring someone down with lies, remember to take it as a loan. It will come back to you with an interest. As I said a lot has been happening. Everything has gone haywire and topsyturvy. The country has been dragged into a cistern of political turmoil, dire poverty, the highest unemployment rate and runaway inflation. Blame it on Uncle Bob if you want. So as usual I was minding my business when someone brought me this one. Hanzi ko mukuru uya took one of the party supporters to those many congregations the Gumbakumba Cult usually have. As you all know whenever the cult goes for those meetings there is a lot drinking, eating and merry-making. So, this woman had one too many and the politician allegedly dragged her to his room where they had quality time. Baba vangu Moyo iweeee, aikaka ndajaira mutupo wasahwira. Pakabatwa basa ndopika naBaba vangu Chasura kudai and for the next three days they enjoyed evey minute of their outing. Hell broke loose when they came back and he picked another chick much to the chagrin of the first one. Baba vangu Madyira iweee! Chaurura, Chitova nedzevamwe iweee. Pakaipa. Zvemaslay queen zvinonetsa izvi. As usual, her narrative is that she was taken advantage of because she was drunk. It’s either a woman cannot give consent or she can deliberately cook up a story if you decide to dump her. That’s really bad hey. Guys, we should refrain from having sex with drunk women. Now the woman is struggling to file a report at the police station. No cop is willing to take it up but she is not giving up. I will give you more details later. Keep tuned. MIRROR REPORTER MASVINGO – Parents at Chipinge Primary School have accused the School Development Committee (SDC) and headmaster David Chinerere of having misplaced priorities and abusing funds. The disgruntled parents said they have been paying a US$35 general levy that was channeled towards the construction of Early Childhood Development (ECD) classroom blocks since 2018 but pupils are still learning in cabins. They also alleged that boys in the boarding facility are sharing one toilet. SDC chairperson Netsai Chigoro refused to comment when contacted by The Mirror, “I am sorry I cannot give you a comment,” she said before hanging up. Chinerere was not picking up calls when contacted for a comment. The parents said they have also been paying a US$50 solar levy for the boarding since 2022 to upgrade the solar and geyser systems but students are allegedly still bathing cold water even in winter. “How is such a big school still putting pupils in cabins during the rainy season? This is not a conducive learning environment. The head and the SDC have misplaced priorities. We appreciate that two ECD classrooms have been constructed but again they don’t have floors. Most of the pupils are still learning in leaking cabins. “The school doesn’t have viable income generating projects to sustain operations and is buying chickens and vegetables from other schools because the garden has been run down,” said the disgruntled parents. Chipinge Primary School is a former A school and used to be for whites only before independence. Teachers at the school who spoke to The Mirror on condition of anonymity said there has been a huge staff turnover owing to special treatment that some teachers are getting. “Weekend lessons are not being distributed equally among the teachers. Some have classes every weekend while others only come once or twice a month. This has led to high teacher turnover in the past few years,” said another teacher. Person of The Year 2024 GARIKAI MAFIRAKUREVA MASVINGO – Metro Peech, one of the leading wholesalers has given its workers, some who served the company for over 12 years, terminal benefits of US$77. The package was paid after Sub-Sahara Capital Group (SSCG)-owned, Gain Cash & Carry bought the company in a deal agreed upon towards the end of last year. Metro Peech which was unable to pay salaries for its 497 employees since August 2023 paid the terminal benefits in December last year. “Under normal circumstances and conditions based on your contract of employment, your terminal benefits worked out using a normal forced termination formula would have been US$239 gross subject to Pay As You Earn (PAYE) taxation. “However, due to the forced closure of Metro Peech & Browne Wholesalers under Corporate Rescue (CR9/23), the agreed Resolution was that all terminated employees would be entitled to $0.32c per every US$1.00 that was due to them. Based on the provision made for terminal benefits using the formula of 32 cents per dollar, the terminal benefits due to you will be US$77 gross subject to Tax. “Your gross amount comprises Cash In Lieu of Leave (CILL) paid at $0,32c per US$1. The amount due to you of US$77 net of tax will be paid to you through Gains Wholesalers by 31 December 2023.” Mutasa the corporate rescue practitioner for Metro Peech argued that the payment was the best that could be salvaged. He said a worse scenario would have emerged had the company been liquidated because both creditors and employees were going to receive 0.07 cents per US$1. “As a Corporate Rescuer Practitioner, I feel this was the best option we had. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Local news Page 8 26 January - 01 February 2024 www.masvingomirror.com PRESS STATEMENT Chief Inspector Paradzai Cephas Mudavanhu Masvingo Traffic Office -In-Charge Phone: +263 39 226 2979 Email: parmuda1974.mp@gmail.com The Zimbabwe Republic Police Masvingo Traffic, would like to discuss an important topic related to road safety, specifically focusing on drivers who fail to stop after an accident. This behaviour is in direct violation of Section 70 of the Road Traffic Act, Chapter 13:11 in Zimbabwe. It is essential for us to understand the significance of this law and the consequences of failing to comply with it. Section 70 of the Road Traffic Act, Chapter 13:11 in Zimbabwe states that it is mandatory for any driver involved in an accident to stop immediately; if a person involved in such accident, is injured render to such person as he may be capable of rendering and such person may need; if such person in the accident is killed to take all reasonable steps to guard the corpse; to give such person all the personal information as Required; and to report such an accident at a police station as soon as reasonably practical, in any event, within 24 hours. The same act goes on to penalises the drivers who fail to carry-out any of the prescribed duties above. Unfortunately, there have been instances where drivers choose to ignore this legal obligation and flee the scene after an accident. This behaviour is not only illegal but also poses significant risks to other road users and may lead to severe consequences. Failing to stop after an accident is a serious offense with potentially severe consequences. Let's explore some of the reasons why this behaviour is not only illegal but also detrimental to road safety: •Collection of Evidence - stopping at the scene of an accident allows law enforcement authorities to gather crucial evidence that may be necessary for insurance claims or legal proceedings. Information such as photographs of the accident scene, witness statements, and other relevant details can be vital in determining liability and facilitating a fair resolution. •Legal Consequences - drivers who fail to stop after an accident can face serious legal consequences. Section 70 of the Road Traffic Act prescribes penalties for such offenses, which may involve fines, imprisonment, or both, depending on the seriousness of the accident and the resulting damages or injuries. Additionally, hit-and-run drivers may also face civil lawsuits from the affected parties seeking compensation for their losses. •Moral and Ethical Responsibility - failing to stop after an accident is not only a violation of the law but also a breach of one's moral and ethical responsibility towards fellow road users. By leaving the scene, the driver not only escapes potential liability but also denies the injured party the chance to receive immediate medical attention or assistance. •Accountability and Responsibility - when a driver fails to stop after an accident, they are essentially evading their responsibility for the consequences of their actions. By fleeing the scene, they deny the other party involved the opportunity to address any damages, injuries, or losses resulting from the accident. •Medical Assistance - in case of injuries sustained by any party involved in the accident, immediate medical attention may be required. By leaving the scene, the driver deprives the injured individuals of the possibility of receiving prompt medical assistance, potentially worsening their condition or even endangering their lives. •Impacts on Accident Investigation - when a driver flees the scene of an accident, it becomes challenging for authorities to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the incident. This can hinder accident investigations and delay justice for the affected parties. It is crucial that drivers involved in accidents cooperate with law enforcement officers and provide accurate information to assist in determining liability. •Importance of Reporting - victims or witnesses of hit-and-run accidents play a crucial role in apprehending the responsible parties. Reporting such incidents promptly to the police and providing them with as much information as possible, such as vehicle descriptions, licence plate numbers, or any other relevant details, can greatly aid in identifying and locating the fleeing driver. •Public Safety Concern - drivers who fail to stop after an accident pose a significant risk to public safety. Their actions not only demonstrate a lack of regard for others' well-being but may also indicate underlying issues, such as irresponsible driving habits, disregard for traffic rules, or potentially impaired judgment. It is crucial that we collectively condemn such behaviour and promote responsible driving practices to ensure the safety of all road users. In conclusion, drivers who fail to stop after an accident, as stipulated by Section 70 of the Road Traffic Act in Zimbabwe, are acting unlawfully and showing a disregard for the safety and well-being of others. It is vital that we raise awareness about this issue, promote responsible driving, and encourage individuals to fulfill their legal and moral obligations after an accident. By doing so, we can work towards creating safer roads and a more responsible driving culture in Zimbabwe. Thank you.

Metro Peech shareholders are Spear Africa Holdings of Mauritius (39,2%), Midosa Investments, a Zimbabwean company (40,8%) and Andrew Sean Baker a natural person and owner of Metro Peech and Brown. Some factors leading to insolvency included the conversion of bank loans (US$5 million loans) from $ZWL to US$ which led to the ballooning of the debt, disparities on the black market vs interbank rate, competition from the black market, top-heavy structure and subdued governance systems and structures. Companies owed by Metro Peech included manufacturers, estate agents, local authorities, media companies and shareholders through loans. Metro Peech was technically insolvent as of July 31, 2023, with a negative net asset value of US$8,878,492. It also had a negative net asset value of US$12,631,411. Metro Peech was first opened in Masasa in 2010 and it had 13 branches in major towns throughout Zimbabwe by the time it went under rescue operation last year. On 24 August 2023, the board made a special resolution to voluntarily Place the company under rescue management. The company at that stage failed to pay bank loans and interest. It had a high gearing ratio. It could not pay rentals, staff salaries and meet Statutory obligations. It had inadequate working capital. The struggling company has been unable to pay its 497 employees, their salaries on time since August 2023 and paying 50% of NEC rates and also failed to settle rentals. “SSCG is already invested in a wholesaling business in Gain Cash and Carry (“Gain”) and the acquisition of Metro Peech & Browne will result in positive synergies taking place. It will inject a minimum of US$8 million as working capital and settle US$390,200 for Corporate Rescue Practitioner fees and legal fees including the Master’s fees. SSCG also acquired Metro’s Non-Current Assets that included land and three buildings in Mutare, Masvingo, Chiredzi and a piece of land in Marondera as well as Motor Vehicles, Computer Equipment, Furniture and Fittings for US$4,909,981. SSCG is a significant player in the Zimbabwean market with investments in Wholesale and Retailing. Gain Cash and Carry boasts of over 60 outlets nationwide. Metro Peech snapped for US$13,5m File Pic.

Mhona said the initiative is in sync with Vision 2023 that also entails infrastructural development. He also said that aerodromes in Hwange and Binga will also be refurbished. He added that all aerodromes across the country, some of which were under the purview of the District Development Fund (DDF) and the military will be resuscitated for civilian use. THERESA ZIBOWA MIRROR REPORTER CHIKOMBA— Four Chikomba Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) councillors have filed an urgent chamber application challenging their suspension from council by the District Development Coordinator (DDC) Michael Mariga. Mariga suspended Collen Zvarevashe (Ward 11), Amos Reza (Ward 10), Fexil Zhakata (Ward 9) and Ishmael Maukazuva (ward 12) for filing an application for a declarature to nullify all council committees at the High Court. They were suspended in December last year. The four CCC councillors allege in their urgent chamber application dated January 19,204, that they have not been served with any official communication of their suspension. They are also arguing that Mariga does not have the power to suspend them. Mariga and the local authority are the respondents in the matter. “…We were never served with any official communication or letter showing that we had committed a misconduct that therefore we were being suspended from conducting council business. Only a resolution passed and pronounced by the 2nd respondent (Mariga) at the meeting of the 11th of January 2024. “The actions of the 1st and 2nd respondents are in contravention of Section 157 of the Rural District Councils Act which is clear that the one who acts on councilors is the Minister and he is the one vested with powers to suspend or dismiss a councillor if there are reasonable grounds that that councillor has committed some misconduct. Contrary to the said section we never received any letter of suspension from the Minister,” reads part of the urgent chamber application. The four councillors approached the High Court in Harare seeking an order to nullify all council committees on the basis that they were imposed by the council chairperson Israel Dhikinya without elections being conducted. The quartet initially approached Chivhu Magistrates Court but withdrew the application after agreeing to resolve the matter in a full council meeting with Zanu PF councillors and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bullen Chiwara. May God give the Masiyatsva family comfort during this difficult time MAY HIS SOUL REST IN ETERNAL PEACE Redcliff Mayor - Councillor Clayton Masiyatsva Why both South Africa and Israel are welcoming the UN court’s ruling in a landmark genocide case A historic ruling by the United Nations’ top court in a genocide case against Israel on Friday was welcomed by the three main parties it involved: Israel, South Africa and the Palestinians. But at the same time, no one got what they asked for. The International Court of Justice in The Hague, the Netherlands, ordered Israel to “take all measures” to prevent genocide in Gaza after South Africa accused Israel of violating international laws on genocide in its war in the territory. It rejected Israel’s request for the case to be thrown out, but it also stopped short of ordering Israel to halt the war as South Africa has asked. “I would have wanted a ceasefire,” said South African foreign minister Naledi Pandor after the ruling in The Hague. She said that she was still satisfied with the outcome. Israel went to war with Hamas in Gaza after the Palestinian militant group launched a brutal attack on the country on October 7, killing 1,200 people and taking more than 250 people hostage. The war has resulted in the death of more than 26,000 people in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, and left much of the enclave in ruins. Israel has pledged not to stop its campaign until all the remaining hostages are released and Hamas is destroyed. South Africa's Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Ronald Lamola, center, and Palestinian assistant Minister of Multilateral Affairs Ammar Hijazi, right, address the media outside the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Netherlands, Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024. The United Nations' top court opens hearings Thursday into South Africa's allegation that Israel's war with Hamas amounts to genocide against Palestinians, a claim that Israel strongly denies. Israel’s war in Gaza has exposed a deepening global divide The case at the ICJ marks the first time Israel has been brought before the court on accusations of violating the 1948 UN Genocide Convention, which was drafted in part due to the mass killings of Jewish people in the Holocaust during the Second World War. Still, many Israelis hailed the ruling on Friday as a win for the Jewish state. Eylon Levi, an Israeli government spokesperson, said the court “dismissed (South Africa’s) ridiculous demand to tell Israel to stop defending its people and fighting for the hostages.” Avi Mayer, the former editor in chief of the Jerusalem Post called it “a devastating blow to those accusing the Jewish state of ‘genocide’.” “The most dramatic thing is that no ceasefire was ordered,” Shelly Aviv Yeini, head of the international law department at Israel’s Haifa University, told CNN, adding that a potential ceasefire order was Israel’s biggest fear, especially as it would have come as over a hundred hostages remain in Gaza. The discourse in Israel has so far focused on only ending the war once the hostages are freed, she said, adding that Israel would have “struggled to live” with a ceasefire order that doesn’t guarantee the return of the captives. “So, I think this is quite (an) expected outcome, and something that Israel will be able to comply with,” she said, adding that the court’s order for Israel to deliver humanitarian aid and report back to the ICJ on its actions is “doable.” A ‘dark day’ in Israel’s history Despite the outcome being perceived by some as being in Israel’s favor, experts warned of the reputational damage faced by the Jewish state. “I would not call it a win, but I would say it could have been worse,” Robbie Sabel, professor of international law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, told CNN. “The fact that in public eyes there’ll be an association that Israel’s acts could have led to genocide, clearly this is harmful public relations.” Friday’s measure was an interim measure by the ICJ as the court considers a full ruling on whether Israel is guilty of violating the Genocide Convention. That ruling could take years. Sabel said that while he is “absolutely convinced” that the ICJ will eventually find Israel not guilty of genocide, he worries that by that time “the public may have forgotten that.” “If they had asked us to stop defending ourselves, we would have had a problem, and at least we don’t have that problem,” he said. Yeini said it was nonetheless a “a very dark day” in Israel’s history. For some Palestinians, however, the court’s ruling didn’t go far enough. Mohammed el-Kurd, a Palestinian activist from Jerusalem, said the ICJ failed on South Africa’s “most important request” to suspend the military operations. “Not shocking, but stings nonetheless,” he said on X, formerly Twitter. “Until the Israeli regime’s genocidal assault on Gaza stops, we should keep protesting and disrupting in every way possible. This is today’s lesson,” he said. CNN

What you receive you did not achieve. You do not achieve gifts of benevolence. Your gifts bestowed by God’s governance. Gifts you call yours really not yours, What’s mine and yours really all ours. What you do, never done on your own, Enabled by the Enabler, there’s no crown. Born naked with nothing to claim, What you have the Creator’s aim. Giving the given your one mission, Mission to be obeyed without omission. Given to you to give those not yet given, It is by love that you should be driven. What a privilege to give those without, Bestowed by the Giver you have no clout. The generous Giver could have given directly, He chose you as giver to give indirectly. A torrent of gifts coming from one spring, Given to you chosen giver for you to bring, A channel of gifts channeling from the giving King. Claiming ownership of gifts you give is thievery. You’re just a messenger entrusted with delivery. Servant of the given humble yourself before the given, A mere messenger channeling gifts to those given. Servant of the Giver humble yourself before the Giver, A mere messenger obeying commands of the Giver. Done not for rewards he will reward as he wishes, Up to the Giver to reward with whatever riches. Enough for the servant to obey the master’s command. Created to receive, giving is the greatest command. Let us all therefore receive to give, Giving back to the Giver who generously gives, Giving all to all we all have to generously give.
