Zvishavane sources its water from Ngezi River. Kamino Simango chairperson of Zvishavane Original Residents and Ratepayers Association however, accused council of failing to supply water consistently because it has not rehabilitated the water treatment plant.\"We appeal to law enforcement agents to monitor and arrest illegal miners upstream of Ngezi River. Residents should bear with us especially during this rain season; the water is too muddy. We need 40 bags of aluminium sulphate per day to treat water and supply residents. Aluminium sulphate cost 70cents per kg so we need 40 bags of 50kgs. Zv- ishavane Town needs 28 Mega liters per day but we are currently supplying 23 Mega because of the increased sludge being pushed in by the flooded rivers,\" said Keta.He said that the local authority has plans to urgently rehabilitate the water treating plant as the population of the town is growing with over 60 000 people now. In addition he accused illegal miners of vandalizing water pipes and damaging valves thereby stopping water from reaching the townKamino Simango chairperson of the residents association said that the council is failing to supply water consistently because they are failing to rehabilitate its plant. \"Council should stay ahead in terms of expanding service against population growth. Council should not rely on Zesa, it should have solar powered plant as an alternative to avoid back logs in water supply. The water treatment plant has aged and there is need for a new one or for the rehabilitation of the old one. We need new pipelines from Ngezi Water Works into town,\" said Simango.Zvishavane water costs shoot due to mining sludge Takarangana Keta.PROPERTIES FOR SALEContact: 0774138874RESIDENTIAL STAND FOR SALE IN CLIPSHAM VIEWS with the following features: access to tarred roads, electricity, water reticulation, use of septic tanks. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Page 413 March - 19 March 2026 www.masvingomirror.comBY MATTHEW TAKAONAMASVINGO – District and provincial education offices under the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education are closing countrywide with no money even to buy toilet paper, Masvingo Mirror has established. The whole education supervisory system has ground to a halt, said a senior officer in the Ministry of Education who spoke on condition of anonymity.“There is not a cent to run district and provincial education offices. There is no stationery, no toners, no fuel, no water, no electricity, not even toilet paper; schools inspectors are just sitting in their offices, they cannot go into the field,” said an authoritative source.Dozens of workers under Better Schools Programme Zimbabwe (BSPZ) were not paid since October last year when the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion froze BSPZ bank accounts due to rampant abuse of funds by provincial and district education officers.Although Government allocates US$800 million a year to Education through per capita grants, Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) and other facilities, there is nothing that has been dispatched in the last four to seven years. The entire administrative functions of the Ministry are now run through payments from parents under BSPZ.Authoritative sources told Masvingo Mirror that electricity and water was cut off at district and provincial education offices because of non-payment of bills. This means that many officers are not coming to work.Even when some officers turn up for work, they do nothing because all cars are grounded as there is no fuel. Schools’ inspectors who average 10 per district have not been going out into the field since last year, said the sources. Even then officers’ Travel and Subsistence Allowances (T &S) for schools’ inspectors backdating to 4 years ago are not paid. Another source told Masvingo Mirror that it was a mess at the double storey BSPZ offices in Mucheke in Masvingo recently after the City Council cut off water and Zesa switched off power. The District Schools Inspector (DSI), Ishmael Chigaba had to approach National Association of Primary School Heads (NAPH) and the National Association of Secondary School heads (NASH) to pay the water and electricity bills.Chigaba confirmed the situation in an interview with Masvingo Mirror but refused to disclose the entity that paid the bills. He referred questions to the Provincial Education Director, Shylatte Mhike who hardly takes questions from the media.“It is a big mess at Masvingo BSPZ offices in Mucheke. The toilets are clogged and there is no power most of the time. We were recently rescued by NAPH,” said a source.Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education spokesperson, Taungana Ndoro said everything is running smoothly because funds are being distributed to district and provincial education offices through Treasury. However, all offices contacted and visited by Masvingo Mirror laughed of this and insisted that there has been no disbursements from treasury for more than four years now.Education offices closing countrywide From page 1public and Government meetings where Zanu PF officials speak.Another woman identified as Ellen, using mobile number 0781083160 and calling herself national coordinator later followed with a WhatsApp message to Chiwanikwa’s inbox and accused her of attacking Zanu PF in her stories. She warned the reporter against writing negative stories against the President, Government and the ruling party. What irked the activists is that three weeks ago, Chiwanikwa attended a meeting at Nhemamushava Diptank under Chief Nhema in Shurugwi and covered the event as is with villagers, Village head Tinashe Muhloro Nhemamushava and Chief Nhema complaining bitterly to the Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Davis Marapira about the unavailability of dipping chemicals after they paid the full cattle tax to Government. The activists did not want Chiwanika to cover the truth of what the villagers said.Nyuke who has for the past two elections been an unsuccessful aspiring councilor later apologized to Chiwanikwa through WhatsApp messages. When contacted for comment, Ellen said she did not threaten Chiwanika. She told Masvingo Mirror that she is a ZRP and works with Police officers in her missions.“I work with Police in my party so nothing that you say scares me. Tell that reporter to go and file a Police report,” said Ellen. Sources said the woman is a vendor at a flea market in Shurugwi but when asked who she was, she said that she is resident in Harare. Her Econet number is not registered on Ecocash.Advocate Martin Mureri said Chiwanika should file a harassment complaint with the Police as her rights are being violated under the Cyber and Data Protection Act [Chapter12:07]. MISA Regional Director, Dr Tabani Moyo said no one is above law to intimidate journalists.“MISA reiterates its position that members of political parties, businesses community and members of society who are aggrieved about media conduct have right channels to utilise including Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe (VMCZ) and the Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) so that professional remedial action can be taken.“No political party members should be above the law in terms of harassing or threatening journalists as their work is enshrined in the Constitution,” said Moyo. \"Another person who is fighting against the party is Chiwanika let us all set our eyes on her, she recently reported a story about dipping chemicals shortage in Shurugwi of which is bad. By so reporting Chiwanika is fighting against vision 2030 and Constitutional Amendment Bill number 3. Let us all put our eyes on Chiwanika starting from today. The council had kept its hands off the schools and left the running and call to school heads and School Development Committees (SDCs).Kwekwe mayor Albert Zinhanga confirmed the development in an interview with Masvingo Mirror. He said that these schools have been failing to provide audit reports on demand from the local authority and this affected council budgets. The fees for some of the schools had gone up so much that communities cannot afford them, said Zinhanga.“I can confirm that we have resolved to take full charge of our five council schools that include Tasungana Primary School, Kushinga, Chana Primary School A and B and Dambudzo Primary.“We face challenges in terms of financial reports and audits such that when we request the documents we don’t get them. Secondly fees in those schools has become so high that residents cannot afford it,” said Zinhanga.“From now on we are going to be directly involved in the recruitment of school heads, bursars and we will participate in organizing elections of SDCs. Thorough vetting will take place before these people take up offices.“We will take non-performing heads back to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education,” said Zinhanga.Kwekwe Council worries over bad governance in schools It is reported that this week Transport and Infrastructural Minister, Felix Mhona is going to lead a ministerial tour of road rehabilitation projects in the Matebeleland North and South Provinces to assess progress before the next Independence Day celebrations to be held at Maphisa Open Grounds on April 18.While road rehabilitation is badly needed and appreciated, what we are witnessing sometimes are shoddy roadworks quickly done on previously neglected roads just before national events, mostly to allow guests to travel in some measure of comfort to and from the venue. Unfortunately after the event little or no further maintenance is ever carried out on such roads. A typical case is the road that connects Gutu Mupandawana and the Chivhu - Bhuhera highway. After its tarring project was abandoned well before completion some years ago, the critical road which links the provinces of Masvingo and Manicaland turned into a bush track that is a nightmare to drive on, taking almost two hours to cover 50 kilometers. However just before the 2024 Uhuru Celebrations held at Murambinda 4 graders suddenly appeared and graded the road in two days. Now 2 years down the line the road is as bad as before due to neglect. One would imagine that walking towards 2030 we would be seeing such a road and many others getting better and better due to diligent rehabilitation and maintenance. But no, the roads are actually getting worse and worse with no one taking care of them. So where then, are we going as a nation?Where are we going?COMMENT

Currently the ammonium cost contributes to 78% of costs so eventually we want to get to a point where the prize of fertilizer drops to between $17 and US$22 a bag.“Currently it takes us 30 to 45 days to import ammonium so if we can produce it locally it will only take us four to five days to produce so then this plant will be able to get to full capacity with production of 240 000 tonnes per annum out of the 340 000 tonnes that our country requires so we will be able to produce 60% to 70% of what the country needs,” said Shumba. The company currently has 162 employees and employment will increase to 300 once operations resume, added Shumba.“We have currently restored electricity and water and we are working on other utilities that we require and subsequently that having been done we will be working on major mechanical maintenance on all the equipment and the certification as required in ammonium nitrate production.“We anticipate to finish maintenance work around April 24-25, it is a bit of a slow process because the plant has been off for a couple of years. We expect the first bags of fertilizer somewhere in the first and second week of May with stable operations expected beginning of June,” said Shumba.Sable Chemicals to reopen in MayVice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga (rightI with Sable Chemicals CEO Harrison Shumba after the tour of the companyBulawayo, March 11, 2026 - Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe has launched a five-year Scholarship Fund in partnership with the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) which is set to open doors for talented students who need financial support to pursue university education. The Stanbic Bank Scholarship Fund is an all-encompassing educational resource set to empower students with genuine financial needs who excel academically.Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe Head of Brand and Marketing, Tariro Memo said the five year partnership will help five students every year, starting from the August 2026 intake. She said the scholarship covers everything a student needs to succeed such as full tuition, accommodation, meals, lab and equipment fees and a brand new laptop adding that this enables beneficiaries to focus fully on their studies without worrying about financial pressure.“This is more than a scholarship. It’s a chance to change lives. We want to give talented young Zimbabweans the opportunity to study, innovate, and build the future they dream of. We believe the next generation of leaders, scientists and creators are right here in Matabeleland, and we are honoured to support them,” said Memo. She said the beneficiaries, who will be drawn from the Matabeleland provinces, will be chosen by a joint committee from Stanbic Bank and NUST with priority going to students who show strong academic ability and genuine financial need. Memo said the Standard Bank Group subsidiary’s purpose is to drive Zimbabwe’s growth and education, particularly STEM education, is foundational to that growth. She said in support of gender equity, three out of the five spots will be given to female students.NUST’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Mqhele Dlodlo, welcomed the partnership, saying it demonstrated a shared vision between the two institutions.“By committing resources to student scholarships, Stanbic Bank has demonstrated its belief in the transformative power of education. This noble gesture aligns perfectly with the Government of Zimbabwe’s thrust to ensure access to education for all, regardless of backgrounds or circumstances,” said Professor Dlodlo. He said the move by Stanbic Bank was also in sync with NUST’s firm conviction that educating the youth, who are tomorrow’s leaders, is not the responsibility of one institution alone but of all stakeholders in society. He urged the recipients of the scholarships to seize the opportunity with wisdom and diligence reminding them that education is not only a privilege but a responsibility.“To Stanbic Bank, we extend our deepest appreciation. However, robots will not replace human beings in terms of values, ethics, human compassion, cultural values, genuine care and respect. She urged women to teach their children the values of Ubuntu which she said machines and robots will not be able to bring.“Technology is advancing and many jobs will disappear in the next 20 years. We must prepare our children for that future by teaching those values that cannot be replaced by machines. We must teach our children something unique that AI cannot replace and that is Ubuntu. When the time comes where you have a robotic pharmacist and a human pharmacist, people will have to choose.“Even if a robot is programmed to greet people, a human being with Ubuntu will always stand out because genuine care, respect and compassion cannot be programmed,” she said.Ruswa encouraged women to pursue financial independence and strengthen their understanding of money management. She said while many people learn financial concepts in school, true success depends on financial intelligence, which involves applying knowledge to real-life situations.“Financial literacy is about understanding concepts, but financial intelligence is about applying that knowledge to create opportunities and grow wealth,” she said. The event was attended by Sunungurai Chingarande, Vice Chancellor of the Women’s University in Africa who was the guest of honour, Nanzelelo Ndlovu, Director of Legal Services at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) and Psychology lecturer at GZU Sanganai Kasinamunhu and women from different places in Zimbabwe.Global technological developments such as electric vehicles, automated systems and artificial intelligence-driven services are already reshaping the world of work she said.Ruswa said women in Zimbabwe historically had limited participation in financial decision-making but the situation is gradually improving as more women become involved in business and leadership. She urged women to mentor the girl child and encourage them to pursue business-related studies and entrepreneurial opportunities.Ruswa grew up in a humble household where her mother worked as a vendor and taught the family important survival skills. Those early lessons in business and practical life skills helped shape her entrepreneurial journey, which later led to the establishment of several successful enterprises. A salon later gave birth to hardwares, shopping malls and now schools.“As we celebrate International Women’s Day we must remember the mothers who worked tirelessly to impart life skills to us. Those lessons shaped many of us who are now captains of industry,” Ruswa said.Ubuntu is Africa’s shield against negative effects of AI Ashell Ruswa

Katsande was acquitted by Justice Sijabuliso Siziba at the High Court in Mutare recently. The judge quashed both sentence and conviction. Katsande had been convicted of defeating the course of justice and sentenced to 12 months in prison by Mutare Provincial Magistrate Anne Ndiraya.Magistrate Ndiraya had commuted the sentence to 245 hours of community service.Justice Siziba concluded that the State failed to prove that Katsande intended to obstruct or defeat the course of justice. Siziba said the law requires proof of criminal intent.“Mistakes or poor professional judgment by prosecutors cannot automatically amount to a crime,” said Justice Siziba. Katsande was initially jointly charged with lawyer Benjamin Basikiti after they prepared a statement of agreed facts in the case in which a 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an adult male relative. The State alleged that the two falsely indicated that the sexual encounter had been consensual, resulting in the charge being reduced from rape to sexual intercourse with a minor.Basikiti was acquitted during trial, while Katsande was convicted after Magistrate Ndiraya concluded that he had failed to verify whether the minor had consented.High Court acquits Chipinge prosecutor KatsandeTimothy KatsandeDUMISANI CHAUKE CHIPINGE TIMES REPORTER CHIPINGE - The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Local Government, Public Works and National Housing chaired by MP Maxmore Njanji, on Friday held a public hearing at Chipinge Primary School following a petition against Chipinge Town Council by residents. The petition accused the local authority of failing to implement the Auditor General’s recommendations resulting in adverse reports for 2023, and 2024. It also alleged non-compliance with IPSA; poor accounting for assets, revenue and liabilities. There were also general complaints in the petition against poor maintenance of roads, abandoned projects, unserviced stands, opaque procurement processes and deteriorating water infrastructure. The petition also raise the issue of high bills, lack of budget consultations and the deterioration of public amenities such as swimming pools and the golf course.Other members of the Parly Committee were Albert Nyakuedzwa, Ropafadzo Makumire and Happymore Chidziva. There were about 50 residents who attended the hearing and the majority spoke positively about council leading to the lead petitioner, Godwill Mlambo complaining that people were paid to paint a glowing picture to the Portfolio Committee. In December 2021, Chipinge Town Council Secretary, Susan Dube was fired for gross incompetence in the discharge of her duties. The petition, submitted in September 2025, called for urgent oversight of council operations.Mlambo alleged that genuine petitioners struggled to participate as they were seated at the back while others had been mobilised to speak in favour of the council. He alleged that some hands were greased to speak in favour of council.“People were bussed in to disrupt the proceedings, and genuine residents were not given a chance to speak as they were seated at the back. The whole public hearing was jeopardized because people no longer independently spoke their minds but tried to please the funder. Residents want the hearing redone. Residents expect Parliament to be objective and to carefully sieve through the information that was presented,” said Mlambo. The Chipinge Residents and Ratepayers Trust (CRRT) spokesperson Tatenda Sithole said the hearings allowed residents to voice concerns regarding governance, financial management and service delivery while noting improvements in some areas.“CRRT commends Parliament for creating space for residents to be heard and for engaging all stakeholders, including through visits to public amenities. Despite attempts by unprogressive elements to disrupt proceedings, the hearing demonstrated the resilience of community participation,” said Sithole.Council Chairperson Kingston Dhlumo dismissed the allegations that some attendees were paid to support Chipinge Town Council during the parliamentary public hearing. He said the petition did not represent the views of all residents.“ The committee saw for themselves that council is functioning properly. The petition reflected the concerns of a few individuals, not the whole community,” Dhlumo added.Tshuma said the visit aimed to assess governance, financial management and service delivery at the local authority.“We are here to listen to residents, examine council-managed assets and ensure statutory requirements are met,” he said. The committee is expected to compile a report based on the submissions, site inspections, and council presentations to guide Parliament on the next steps for improving governance and service delivery in Chipinge.Parly holds public hearing against Chipinge Town Council

His jail sentence is likely to go beyond 200 years in prison as he still faces two counts of murder after he shot and killed two Police officers three weeks ago.Today he again appeared before Regional Magistrate Innocent Bepura.Magistrate Bepura today convicted Munyanyi on six counts of armed robbery, one count of attempted murder, six counts of theft and six counts of unlawful entry. He was given 10 years on each of the six counts of robbery, seven years on a count of attempted murder and another 10 years on counts 8 to 19 which involved theft and unlawful entry.Passing sentence, Magistrate Bepura described Munyanyi as a danger to the public for carrying out a series of violent offences using firearms.“It is ruled that the six robberies were committed under aggravating circumstances through the use of firearms. The offender used violence, stole cash, cellphones and other valuables. His conduct shows that he is a danger to the public and society,” said Magistrate Bepura. On the count of attempted murder, Magistrate Bepura said Munyanyi’s actions showed clear intent to kill after he shot a complainant in the abdomen.“In count seven of attempted murder, the offender shot the complainant on the abdomen. This demonstrates how dangerous the offender is,” he said.Bepura added that Munyanyi had committed a spree of serious offences which warranted a severe penalty.“The offender committed a spree of serious offences and such conduct calls for a severe penalty. There is no way to escape a custodial sentence. The court must send a clear message to would-be offenders that such criminals must be removed from society in order to protect the public,” said Bepura. On July 23, 2025, at Village 22 in Mushandike, Munyanyi pointed a firearm at Trybest Mahlazi and robbed him of US$300 and a Tecno cellphone. On August 2, 2025, in Mucheke A, Masvingo, Munyanyi used violence against Shepherd Mtetwa before stealing US$5 300, a Dell laptop, an Honor cellphone and JuiceCard airtime. On December 26, 2025, at house number 520 in Newstands, Chivi, Munyanyi pointed a gun at Forgiveness Chinyoka and stole a Samsung S21 cellphone and US$6000.The court further heard that in January 2026, in Munana Village under Chief Madyangove, Munyanyi threatened Nyarai Pirimukai with a pistol before stealing US$460, ZAR700 and a black Dell laptop. On January 21, 2026, also in Munana Village, Munyanyi again used a pistol to threaten Josephat Madzivire and robbed him of US$25 and an Itel A20 cellphone.Another robbery occurred on February 13, 2026, in Rujeko C, Masvingo where Munyanyi pointed a gun at Richard Musekiwa and stole several gadgets including a Samsung Galaxy S26, another Samsung cellphone, a Huawei P30, a Samsung Note 9 and a silver laptop.Five days later, on February 18, 2026, Munyanyi shot Musekiwa in the lower abdomen with a pistol in what the State said was attempted murder. Munyanyi however told the court that the shooting was accidental. The court also heard that Munyanyi committed several unlawful entry and theft offences across Masvingo between March and July 2025.On March 9, 2025, in Mucheke, he allegedly broke into a house through a window using a sharp object and stole US$600, R500, a Samsung Galaxy A03 and an Honor cellphone.Later that month, on March 30, he unlawfully entered premises at Masvingo Polytechnic and stole a Tecno cellphone belonging to Graciano Tanaka Mangezi. On April 1, 2025, in Chikuni Street, Rujeko C, Munyanyi unlawfully entered a house and stole an iPhone 14 Pro Max and US$700 belonging to Blessed Mutize. On May 4, 2025, in Rhodhene’s Marula Street, he forcefully opened a kitchen door at Victor Mutya’s house and stole a colour television.Another unlawful entry occurred on June 12, 2025, in Hillside where he broke into Takawira Nyahu’s house and stole a Fusion television. The last incident occurred on July 25, 2025 in Zimre Park where Munyanyi stole a 42-inch television belonging to Roderick Maluka after forcing entry into the premises.Liberty Hove prosecuted.Zaka ‘cop killer’ gets record 149 years in jail

I am struggling to raise US$500 for my son’s surgery and my two young children have outstanding school fees payments. I am appealing for financial assistance so that Ngonidzashe can undergo surgery. Life has been difficult for us,” said Chimuriwo.Chimuriwo said Ngonidzashe was born prematurely at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare in 2003 and he was diagnosed with a heart condition when he was just 2 months old. A patient monitoring machine is used by healthcare workers to measure and display vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen levels, helping medical staff quickly detect changes in a patient’s condition. The group’s Director Stephen Gwinyai Mutsongodza said the donation was meant to complement Government efforts in improving access to healthcare.“What motivated us is to try and contribute in a small way possible so that Zimbabweans can access medical services from our Government health institutions,” said Mutsongodza. He also encouraged other businesses and stakeholders to support the health sector through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.Mutsongodza said his institution was also contributing to the health sector by sponsoring students pursuing medical degrees at local universities such as the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) and the National University of Science and Technology (NUST).About 10 students sponsored by the school are currently studying medicine, with the intention that they will eventually be deployed in the country’s ten provinces to help improve healthcare delivery.“When these students complete their studies, we hope they will contribute to improving the country’s health delivery system,” he said. The hospital’s Sister-in-Charge Faustina Mutasa expressed gratitude.“We greatly appreciate this donation. Taking vital signs is important to ensure that a patient is stable. With this machine we can start with initial observation of the patient before conducting further examinations,” said Mutasa.First Class donates to Victoria Chitepo Provincial HospitalMutsongodza handing over the machine to SIC Faustina Mutasa
The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Health news Page 2813 March - 19 March 2026 www.masvingomirror.comBY CATHERINE MUROMBEDZICORRESPONDENTAs the global community prepares for World TB Day on March 24. Zimbabwe is intensifying its domestic efforts under the optimistic theme: \"Yes! We can end TB!\" Far from being a mere slogan, the country is translating these words into grassroots action, aiming to consolidate recent gains and push towards total elimination of the disease.Grassroots mobilisation has been a success story of TB survivors in the national response.A similar exercise took place in Domboshava, Mashonaland East Province.Leading the charge was the Zimbabwe National Network of Tuberculosis Survivors (ZNNTBS). It is a non-profit organisation that has quickly become the heartbeat of the national response. The network recently hosted a high-profile TB Pre-Commemoration event in the rural heartlands of Domboshava District, at Parirewa High School grounds. The choice of location was deliberate. While urban centres often have easier access to information, rural communities lag behind.Stanley Sibanda, Vice Chairman of the ZNNTBS, expressed his satisfaction with the community’s engagement.\"Our inaugural commemorations were held last year in the urban setting of Dzivarasekwa, Harare. For our second year, we intentionally moved to a rural setting to ensure no one is left behind,\" Sibanda noted. \"The turnout was beautiful. We saw a cross-section of society: traditional and church leaders, headmasters, teachers, students, the community itself and local business owners. As survivors, these moments allow us to reflect on our journey and assess exactly where we are in this fight.\"A partnership of policy and people was palpable. The event was bolstered by the strong presence of the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC). The Guest of Honour, Dr Fungai Kavenga, Deputy Director in the AIDS and TB Unit, lauded the survivors not just as former patients, but as essential \"foot soldiers.\"\"We recognise your work as a vital cog in the national response,\" Dr. Kavenga told the gathering. \"The Ministry views the success of our TB programme as a shared responsibility. Your commitment to community outreach ensures that the science of medicine meets the reality of the people.\"The national TB story is a success amidst significant challengesZimbabwe’s TB trajectory is currently a success story on the African continent. According to MoHCC data, 21,600 cases were diagnosed in 2025. This steady progress led to a major international milestone: Zimbabwe’s removal from the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) list of the 30 high TB-burden countries. However, the path forward is not without hurdles. Public health experts warn of four primary threats to the current progress:Delayed Health-Seeking Behaviour: Many patients wait too long to visit clinics, leading to advanced illness. Many with poor health seeking bhaviour are men.Stigma: Social shame continues to drive the disease underground.Drug Resistance: The interruption of treatment for Multi-Drug Resistant TB (MDR-TB) remains a clinical concern.Funding Gaps: A decline in global funding threatens the sustainability of local programmes. The Face of ResilienceAmong those leading the charge against these obstacles is Barbra Farashishiko, a founding member of ZNNTBS and a leader in the Mabvuku/Tafara community. For Farashishiko, says her \"status\" is her greatest tool for advocacy.\"In my community, everyone knows me. I am open about my history with TB because it is a living proof that the disease is totally curable,\" she said during the Domboshava event. \"Working alongside the National AIDS Council (NAC) and District AIDS Coordinators has opened doors for us. When we knock, the leadership listens, the coordinators are well known in all communities.\"As March 24 approaches, the message from Domboshava is clear: Zimbabwe has the momentum, the survivor-led leadership, and the political will to turn the tide. The goal is no longer just \"control\" it is a definitive end to TB.Mite Mpofu,Mashonaland East Chairman, the man on the ground in the district, oversaw the preparations.\"We are self-funding. The success of this event was made possible with the help from the business community and the traditional leaders. The Ministry of Health provided us with transport and 50 t-shirts for the event. As you know, funding is shrinking. We are grateful that the community has a buy-in. Refreshments were provided, thanks to all who assisted us to hold a successful day. The Chiefs, village heads and councillors offer us their full support to end TB. As an organisation, we are received well in our province,\" said Mpofu.Zimbabwe is ramping up its efforts to combat TB with innovative strategies. Dr Kavenga outlined the country's plan to intensify TB case finding. The ministry will deploy digital Xray machines in high-traffic health facilities, communities with high HIV prevalence, prisons, and mining areas. Mobile X-ray units are also being implemented to reach remote areas, while community-based screening is getting a boost with AI-powered diagnostic tools. The private sector is being roped in to support TB case finding, and systematic screening is being scaled up among high-risk groups, including HIV-positive individuals, prisoners, and miners. Dr Kavenga emphasized that these efforts are crucial in the fight against TB.\"On the innovation front, Zimbabwe is set to introduce AI-powered computer-aided detection systems for X-ray analysis, integrating AIdriven diagnostic tools with existing electronic health records,\" he said. A pilot project was recently taken in the Midlands Province. The country also plans to leverage AI-powered chatbots to enhance effective diagnosis. With over a decade of experience using GeneXpert, Zimbabwe aims to expand its molecular diagnostic tests for rapid TB diagnosis.Dr Kavenga stressed that ending TB requires a multi-sectorial approach, emphasizing the importance of public-private partnerships. \"Many hands and heads are better than one,\" he said.Dr Kavenga highlighted the critical role of community-based organisations in detecting outbreaks and supporting TB efforts. \"We value them as an important stakeholder,\" he added. As Zimbabwe gears up to commemorate World TB Day, the country is poised to turn the tide against tuberculosis. With survivor-led initiatives, government support, and innovative strategies like AI-powered diagnostics and digital X-ray machines, Zimbabwe is making significant strides towards ending TB. Despite challenges like funding gaps and stigma, the collective effort from organisations, communities, and the government signals a promising future. The goal is clear: end TB, not just control it.Feedback: [email protected] Accelerates Drive to End TB: Survivors Take Centre StageFrom left Chief Chinamhora, Goromonzi DMO Dr Mundawaro, Ishe Gwindi , Deputy Director Aids and TB Unit Dr Fungai Kavenga who was the Guest of honour, Parirewa High School Headmaster Gift Madzomba in green and area Councilor Mr Mazhambe,Dr Fungai Kavenga, the Deputy Director in the AIDS and TB unit was the Guest of Honour at the TB precommemorations in Domboshava recently.

The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Page 3013 March - 19 March 2026 www.masvingomirror.comBy Dr A.S Mutambanesango In a world that values speed and instant gratification, patience can seem like a lost art. But as Christians, we’re called to a different way of living. Patience is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), and it’s essential for our growth, relationships, and witness.Patience isn’t just about waiting; it’s about trusting God’s timing and sovereignty. Patience builds on trust and faith. When we’re patient, we acknowledge that God’s ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9), and He’s working all things for our good (Romans 8:28). This trust allows us to rest in His presence, even in uncertainty. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it.Jesus exemplified patience in His earthly ministry. He didn’t rush, even when faced with opposition or misunderstanding. He took time to teach, heal, and love (Matthew 9:20-22, Mark 1:35). His patience with us is a model for how we should treat others. We see this in how He handled His disciples, the crowds, and even His enemies – with compassion, kindness, and patience. Some years back, we had poor communication. We could not get instant replies for distant communications but we could patience made us to wait for two or more weeks before getting replies. We knew replies would come. We could wait for a bus for many hours without knowing where the bus is and at what time it would arrive. At times the bus would not arrive but we still remained patient and hopeful to the next day. Eventually the bus would come and we would start the journey. Patience pays and it is necessary in life.Patience is crucial in our relationships. It helps us listen, understand, and respond with love (Ephesians 4:2, Colossians 3:12). When we’re patient, we create space for others to grow and for God to work in their lives. This is true in our families, friendships, and communities. By being patient, we show others the love of Christ. In our personal lives, patience helps us endure trials and persevere in our walk with God (James 1:3-4, Romans 5:3-4). It reminds us that God’s timing is perfect, and His plans are worth waiting for. This is where we learn to trust Him more, to rely on His strength, and to find peace in His presence.Cultivating patience isn’t always easy, but we can ask God to grow it in us. We can grow patience in other people. We can be role models or we can teach others to be. We can spend time in prayer, asking Him to increase our patience. We can reflect on God’s character and promises, trusting in His goodness. We can practice self-control, taking a step back before reacting. And we can focus on others, looking for opportunities to serve and love.As we grow in patience, we’ll reflect God’s love and character to a world in need. We’ll trust His timing, love others well, and find peace in His presence. This is where we find joy, not in the absence of problems, but in the presence of God.The importance of patience: A biblical perspective BY PASTOR JOSEPH MUZHUZHAIn the life of faith, one of the greatest barriers to experiencing the miraculous is unbelief. Scripture repeatedly shows that faith invites divine intervention, yet unbelief quietly shuts the door to what God desires to do. For believers seeking to witness God’s power at work, understanding the destructive nature of unbelief is essential. The Bible teaches that faith is the channel through which God’s promises are received. Unbelief is like water that extinguishes fire. It stifles faith. When doubt takes root in the heart, it weakens confidence in God’s ability and willingness to act. As a result, the miraculous that could have manifested is delayed, diminished, or completely hindered.Unbelief often arises when circumstances appear greater than God’s promises. People begin to rely on what they see rather than what God has spoken. When fear, logic, or past disappointments dominate the mind, faith loses its strength. In such moments, individuals unknowingly cancel the very power they are praying for.The ministry of Jesus provides a clear example. In several instances, miracles occurred where people believed, yet in places where unbelief prevailed, mighty works were limited. This demonstrates a spiritual principle: faith activates divine possibilities, while unbelief restricts them.Unbelief also creates spiritual stagnation. Instead of expecting God to move, people become comfortable with ordinary outcomes. Prayer becomes routine rather than expectant, and hope slowly fades. When faith is neutralised, the believer’s spiritual life becomes powerless. The antidote to unbelief is a deliberate cultivation of faith. Faith grows through hearing and meditating on God’s Word, trusting His promises even when circumstances seem contrary. It requires a conscious decision to believe God above doubt and to stand firm in expectation.Ultimately, the miraculous thrives in an atmosphere of unwavering belief. When faith is protected and nurtured, the impossible becomes possible. Therefore, believers must guard their hearts against unbelief, for it is the silent enemy that neutralises faith and limits the manifestation of God’s power.PRAYER: Oh LORD. Deliver me from the Spirit of unbelief in Jesus` name!Pastor Joseph Muzhuzha is a Minister of the word with UFIC Masvingo City Branch. Founded by Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa in 2008. Zimbabwean musicians are poor. Pain- fully poor. If one were to make a rough estimate, nearly nine out of ten musi- cians in Zimbabwe struggle to survive from their craft. Yet the tragedy is not only about a lack of money in the music industry. The deeper problem is that the little money circulating in the industry often never reaches the artists who actu- ally create the music.Instead, it is swallowed by a network of so-called promoters and producers who have mastered the art of exploiting des- peration, ignorance, and ambition. Many musicians either do not know the laws that protect them, or they simply do not know what steps to take when they are cheated. As a result, they become easy prey. The Myth of the Zimbabwean “Promoter”Let us start with the people who call themselves promoters. In the real sense of the word, a promoter is someone who invests in an artist, builds their brand, markets their music, organizes performances, and gradually takes them from obscurity to stardom. A true promoter takes risks, spends money, and grows together with the artist. But in Zimbabwe, that definition has been turned upside down. What we have are not promoters. We have opportunists. They are like hyenas lurking at a distance while the lion hunts. When the lion finally makes the kill, the hyenas rush in to steal the meat.Zimbabwean artists usually struggle alone to build their names. They record songs with their own money, promote themselves on social media, and perform at small shows hoping to be noticed. Then the moment a song becomes pop- ular—suddenly the “promoters” appear. They do not come to build the artist. They come to harvest the fame that already exists. When a Song Becomes HotA good example is the case of Jacob Moyana, whose song Munotidako once set the streets on fire. When that song exploded, it was every- where. People sang it in buses, markets, bars and weddings. It became the sound of the moment.Suddenly, the self-proclaimed promot- ers emerged from every corner.Jacob Moyana was suddenly billed to perform alongside Zimbabwe’s biggest names. Posters were printed. Shows were organized. The pro- moters knew very well that the public wanted “Mu- notidako.” That was where the money was.But once the hype cooled down, what happened? The same people who were scrambling to work with him disappeared overnight. The artist was discarded like chewing gum that had lost its sweetness. The Case of Paradzai MesiThe same pattern repeated itself when news spread that Paradzai Mesi was returning to the stage. Fans were excited. Music lovers were curious. There was a sense that something big might happen.Immediately the vultures circled again.Promoters rushed to secure shows. Posters were designed. Interviews were organized. Not because they believed in rebuilding the artist’s career—but because they smelled money in the excitement. But when they realized that the expected gold mine might not materialize, they quietly backed away.Once again, the artist was left standing alone. So the question must be asked honestly: Do we really have promoters in Zimbabwe? Or do we have business people who disguise themselves as promoters while conning artists? The Other Problem: Producers Who Delay ArtistsThe second group that is increasingly frustrating Zimba- bwean musicians are music producers.Artists across the country are complaining about a disturbing trend: projects that take years to complete. In a normal professional environment, recording an album should take a few weeks or months, depending on the scale of the project. But in Zimbabwe, it is not uncommon for a single project to drag on for two years or even longer. This is disastrous for musicians, especially those who sing about current affairs or social issues. Music that is relevant today may become meaningless two years later.By the time the album is finally released, the moment that inspired it has already passed. The “Studio Kings” Who Deliver NothingA number of artists have quietly com- plained about certain young producers who have turned delay into a business model. These producers are often broke, yet they carry themselves with an exag- gerated sense of importance. They boast about their lifestyle. They brag about not taking a kombi into town. They act like celebrities in their own right. But when it comes to deliver- ing the work they were paid for, they suddenly develop mysterious illnesses, endless excuses, and unexplained delays.A project that should take three months suddenly takes five years.Meanwhile, the artist has already paid studio fees, production costs, and some- times even promotion expenses. The musician waits. The career stalls. The opportunity disappears. The Cost of SilenceThe tragedy is that many artists remain silent. Some fear damaging their reputation. Others fear being blacklisted from studios or shows. And many simply do not know that they can seek legal redress. But as long as this culture continues—where promoters exploit success they did not build, and producers delay projects they were paid to complete—the Zimbabwean music industry will remain trapped in poverty.Talent alone will never be enough.Time for AccountabilityThe time has come for musicians to understand their rights and use the laws of the country to protect themselves. Contracts must be written. Deadlines must be enforced. Payments must be transparent. The music industry cannot grow when the people entrusted to support artists are the very ones holding them back.If the system does not change, Zimbabwe will continue producing talented musicians who never reach their full potential. And the industry will remain what it sadly is today—a marketplace where the artist works the hardest but earns the least. In the next article, we will begin naming and exposing some of the producers and promoters whose actions are damaging the careers of many Zimbabwean musi- cians.“Hyenas in the Studio: How Fake Promoters and Lazy Producers Are Bleeding Zimbabwe’s Musicians Dry”
