The residents who spoke to The Mirror said the spewing clouds of dust and fumes are a health hazard. "As Stone Clare residents, we are living under a health hazard. We inhale cement dust each day and the problem has affected some of us. "We have been at loggerheads with the cement producer for many years but nothing has changed so far ," said a resident, John Phiri. Environmental Management Agency (EMA) Kwekwe district officer, Daniel Magombedze confirmed receiving reports from the residents over the issue. "Yes we received complaints from Stone Clare residents in Redcliff over dust pollution coming from the cement manufacturing plant. "The problem was first attended to in September last year and we made observations. "The company was ordered to submit its action plan stating their mitigation measures which include among others tree planting and paving of their roadways,“ he said. He said they made a follow-up in November last year to assess compliance but nothing from the action plan was implemented. "As EMA, we again made follow-ups in November and December and most recently in February this year. Findings on the ground indicated that they were reluctant to adhere to the action plan," he said. He said last year, the company was fined US$5000 for failing to comply with emissions standards. Redcliff Mayor, Vincent Masiiwa said they held a meeting with the cement company on Wednesday afternoon over the matter. 'We held a meeting with the company management and they have promised to deal the pollution issue. "The plant seems to be OK but there is dust surrounding the plant and their roads normally caused by haulage trucks ferrying cement. This dust then affects nearby residents especially those at Stone Clare area. "The company has promised to put measures in place to deal with this dust pollution and we shall continuously monitor Livetouch as a local authority," he said. Livetouch spokesperson, George Makonese said they are working hard to address the dust pollution. "We have been issued with tickets by EMA and we are currently working hard to address the issue. We have transferred our dump site to a place which is far away from the residential areas and we are going to continue doing all the best so that we work together with the residents," he said. He said the company was going to plant gum trees which will serve as dust traps, pave the roadways and address other sources of dust pollution. According to health experts, fumes and dust compromise air quality which in turn affects the skin, eyes , lungs and the nasal passage. Continuous exposure to dust and gases, smoke and fumes can lead to illnesses like asthma, mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis among other respiratory diseases. Outcry over Chinese cement factory pollution From page 1 ter Director Munyaradzi Bidi has said. He bemoaned partisan distribution of food aid that leaves out the most deserving and needy, diversions in between storage and distribution points, discrimination and corruption that is rampant throughout the country whenever there are drought relief programmes. He called on Government to make a complete overhaul of structures involved in welfare distribution including those at village levels that are responsible for selection of beneficiaries of aid. World Food Programme (WFP) estimates that there are 2.7 million people who face starvation this year. He said previous drought relief programmes in the country were marred by partisanship distribution that left out the most deserving, diversions in between storage and distribution points and discrimination. According to the World Food Programme (WFP),Zimbabwe is likely to face severe food shortages this year with an estimated 2.7 million people facing starvation. According to the World Food Programme (WFP),Zimbabwe is likely to face severe food shortages this year with an estimated 2.7 million people facing starvation. Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZAAC) spokesperson Thandiwe Malobane urged all those with complaints of partisan distribution of food aid to approach the Commission. “We call on citizens who have reports on partisan distribution of food aid to come forward and provide our offices with information,” said Malobani. Speaking in an interview with The Mirror two weeks ago, Bidi bemoaned partisan distribution of food aid particularly this year when most people face starvation because of the debilitating effects of the EL Nino induced drought. "Non-partisan civil servants, churches and civil society organisations should take the centre stage when it comes to the selection of beneficiaries and distribution of aid. Involvement of traditional leaders and councilors should complement a fair and just process. “We need a robust corruption risk management system," he said. He called on Government to introduce tighter measures to bring a stop to corruption around the distribution of welfare. The Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, July Moyo said no food aid should be politicised. “We advise all those in the food aid and distribution matrix not to politicise any food aid. “All village heads and committees should make sure that they register every household so that no one is left out,” said Moyo. "As ACT-SA, we welcome efforts by President Mnangagwa who is engaging his colleagues in the Southern Africa region to find collaborative ways to deal with the El-Nino induced drought. In as much as this is a welcome, there is need to ensure that what he mobilises benefits the needy. "We urge the President to deal with corruption around food aid rto protect the vulnerable and needy," said Bidi. Rope in churches in relief aid distribution - ACT-SA

The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Page 3 19 - 25 April 2024 www.masvingomirror.com PRISCA MANYIWA-MASUKU MIRROR REPORTER KWEKWE - Uncontrolled artisanal mining has become a serious threat to water bodies around Zibagwe, Kwekwe and Zhombe, this is according to the findings made by the team drawing master plans for the Midlands Province. Zibagwe Rural District is already facing critical water shortages because major water bodies are silted due to artisanal mining and stream bank cultivation. Some dams that are seriously affected by siltation are Exchange Dam (Silobela) that is 39% silted, Totororo Dam (Zhombe) is completely gone because mining is actually happening inside the dam. Ngondoma irrigation is under threat because the holding capacity of its dam is now around 51%. Artisanal miners are mining inside water bodies in Zhombe and Silobela and this has also destroyed irrigation schemes due to shortages of water. Lead town planner, Johnson Mikuku revealed these findings to journalists during the presentation of findings at a Kwekwe Hotel. “As part of our findings the district has a critical shortage of water. We have so many water bodies in the district but they are silted. “Some irrigation schemes that operated for 20 years have collapsed because of siltation of dams,” said Mikuku. He said the current planning must therefore bring about mitigatory measures and buffer zones to protect the priceless water bodies. Lord have mercy! Women are heartless at times. Even if when you had turned into a cabbage, they don’t give a f^cking damn about that. That reminds me of this other story that happened in Brazil. This is a true story. Nothing out of this world but a story of how women can be so crazy. The woman in question is said to have wheeled a dead man into the bank and tried to get him to 'sign off' a loan in her name while holding his head up. Bank footage showed the woman telling the dead man to grip hold of his pen hard as she placed it between his fingers and encouraged him to sign a piece of paper at the bank branch in Bangu, a neighbourhood in the western area of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A bank worker witnessing the scene told the woman even told her that he didn't think what she was doing was legal because the man didn’t look well, and was so pale. In which she replied that he was like that before she told the dead man: 'If you're not well, I can take you to hospital. Do you want to go back to the hospital again? The deceased pensioner, Paulo Roberto Braga, 68, had passed away a few hours earlier. The woman who wheeled him into the bank, Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes, was arrested at the scene and told police she was his niece as well as his carer. Officials have appeared to signal they are related and are said to be checking CCTV cameras inside and outside the bank to see if Mr Braga's family member was on her own or with alleged accomplices amid suspicion they could be dealing with an organised fraud. The results of a post-mortem to establish the cause of death have not yet been made public. As a man, you are supposed to trust the woman you love but this ungrateful species can put stuff in your meal to be able to secure your life insurance savings. This is exactly what is happening in Bikita. I am told an accountant with the Ministry which specialises in schools and illiteracy, Oh! Let us continue to honour them by memorialising our historic sites and correctly documenting our rich liberation war history for both present and future generations. Dear Comrades and Friends; This year’s commemorations, come on the backdrop of the climate change induced El Nino drought. It is the worst drought in 40 years, which is affecting the entire SADC region. I am aware that many of our communities, including here in Manicaland Province, have been affected by the low rainfall which resulted in poor harvests. As such, earlier this month, I invoked a nationwide State of Disaster on the Drought to allow our Government machinery and institutions to give special attention to mitigating the negative impact of the drought. Government, committed to wholeheartedly attending to the needs of our communities. In both rural or urban areas, no Zimbabwean will succumb to starvation. Adequate resources are being mobilised towards national food security. The Food Deficit Mitigation Programme is gathering pace following the identification of vulnerable communities and households in every district and ward. Drawing from our traditional heritage, cultural norms and values, we are tackling drought in unity, no-one and no place will be left behind. Meanwhile, my Government is implementing a robust winter cropping programme, as we broaden our Strategic Grain Reserves. Furthermore, measures are in place to reactivate winter maize projects in Chiredzi, Muzarabani and Binga. Fellow Zimbabweans; Government is alive to the adverse impact suffered by our people as a result of currency volatility and inflation. Last week, my Administration launched a new structured gold-backed currency, the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG). Nyika yedu irikuenderera mberi. Ilizwe lethu liya phambili. Our ZiG currency is anchored by our God given gold and other strategic mineral resources, as well as foreign currency reserves. This development, will boost our confidence and pride in our own national currency and further help protect our currency from attack by the country’s detractors. This is our currency; we all have a duty to support this transformational development. Further, measures to encourage savings and reduce excessive bank fees and charges have also been put in place. The overall economic outlook remains bright. Our country’s GDP is now exceeding US$47 billion up from US$16 billion in 2018. This shows that we, the descendants of the Great Munhumutapa are a resilient, focused, determined and hardworking people. Zimbabwe is winning. Following the successful completion of the Beitbridge-Harare highway, focus has now shifted to the Harare-Chirundu section. The broader road rehabilitation and construction projects across our country’s provinces will continue to be supported. The Second Republic is committed to ensuring that Zimbabwe becomes a robust digital economy and knowledge-based society. This has seen the expansion of the fibre-optic network backbone infrastructure and the adoption of responsive policies and measures to promote access and use of ICTs. Industry players, are called upon to operate within our country’s laws. Social media platforms must be used responsibly to defend our independence and national pride as well as to educate, maintain unity, harmony and drive production and productivity in all our communities. The freedom we enjoy today is priceless and irreversible. On this special day, let us once again make a pledge and promise to stand firm and resolute in defence of our rich liberation heritage. Edson Ushe (43) will be back in court on Monday. He is facing indecent assault charges. The incident allegedly happened around 7 pm on December 24, 2023, in Gweru. Ushe is represented by Easau Mandipa of Mandipa and Mutatu Legal Practitioners and he is denying the charge. Circumstances are that Ushe visited the girl’s house to see her parents who were away in Bulawayo. He found her playing with two minor friends and stayed with them for 30 minutes. Monica Mungwena prosecuted. Gweru church leader in court for ‘ fondling’ minor SIMBARASHE MTEMBO MIRROR REPORTER MASVINGO – Gutu Magistrate, Edwin Marecha on Monday postponed the trial of Gutu District Deputy Development Coordinator (DDC) Benedict Buddy Gwede (41) to April 29, 2024, because the State is still carrying out investigations. Gwede is facing criminal abuse of charges after he allegedly stole a date stamp from his immediate boss, Gutu DDC Chiedza Tafireyi and certified a fake land offer deed. He also received an application for land and issued an offer letter, a role that does not fall under his office but the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement. He was arrested by the Police on Friday, March 22, 2024 and spent the weekend in remand prison. He is out on US$300 bail. Tafirei’s date stamp was used to authentic an illegal offer letter he gave to Joseph Muzapi for Plot Number 21, Craig Farm, Gutu. The farm belongs to businessman Francis Toringepi. Circumstances of the case are that Toringepi who has ownership of the farm since February 10, 2015, suffered losses when Muzapi went to the farm armed with a fake offer letter and destroyed his crops in December last year. Contrary to his roles, and sometime in 2023, Gwede personally received a land application from Muzapi at the DDC’s office whereas land applications should be submitted to the Gutu District Lands Office. He then took advantage of Tafirei’s absence and wrote an offer letter for Plot Number 21, Craig Farm, Gutu in Muzapi’s name. He also stamped the offer letter using Tafirei’s date stamp without her knowledge and approval. He went on to write a letter to Gutu Rural District Council (RDC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Alexander Mtembwa to effect ownership change of the farm and handed the letter and offer letter to Muzapi’s friend Innocent Tarugarira. Muzapi went to the farm after the local authority had effected the changes sometime in December 2023. He hired a tractor that ploughed Toringepi’s crops and ordered his workers and family to vacate the farm. Toringepi was informed of the matter and he filed a Police report in Harare leading to investigations into the matter. Rachel Murape prosecuted. Martha Mbedzi (27) from Beitbridge appeared before Diana Masiiwa of Chiredzi Magistrates’ Court facing allegations of stealing a car from South Africa. The stolen car is a white Renault Duster with South African registration number. It is in the state case that on September 27, 2023 the car was parked at 155 Watermare Road South Africa and it disappeared that same night. Mbedzi was then seen by ZRP driving the car along TangandaNgundu Road with her daughter. An investigating detective on the matter from South Africa Jephry Berry Lucas (50) told the court that the vehicle was stolen from South Africa. Berry Lucas said he received the report of a stolen vehicle from the ZRP that's why he came to Zimbabwe to make further investigations. Lucas confirmed that the car belongs to an old man from South Africa, and when the car was stolen the complainant reported to Silverton Police Station. Woman hides in sugarcane field after being chased by Police over stolen car MIRROR REPORTER HARARE – Court 14 resembled a funeral on Monday afternoon as family members wailed loudly after six suspects including Prosper Bizwork who allegedly forged title deeds and illegally sold former Cabinet Minister Dzingai Mutumbuka’s Chisipite mansion were denied bail by Harare Regional Magistrate Donald Ndirowei. This time Bizwork (48) and five others applied for bail in another case in which they forged documents for property number 589 Rietfontein Township Lot 5 in Borrowdale, Harare which they sold for US$92 000 against a market value of US$400 000. Family members who least expected wailed loudly after Magistrate Ndirowei pronounced his bail decision. Ndirowei said in his bail ruling that the State has a strong case against all the six. He said that the accused could not distance themselves from the evidence placed before the court by the investigating officer, Eric Chacha of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZAAC), particularly the forged identity documents, the agreement of sale and acknowledgement of receipt of funds. In the case of Bizwork, he said that the accused had a pending similar case and his release could see him absconding or even committing new crimes. “Once such evidence is produced, heads naturally turn towards the accused persons to rebut such or at least to give plausible or probable defence to the allegations. “From the submissions by the counsel for the accused persons, no submissions were made to explain or to distance the accused persons from the evidence produced by the State i.e. the forged identity documents, acknowledgement of receipt of funds and sale agreement,” said Magistrate Ndirowei. He said that in coming to his decision, he made a careful balance between the interests of justice and the accused fundamental right to liberty as protected by the Constitution. Some of the lawyers who represented the accused persons were Enock Nengomasha of Zuze and Chambers, Mushayi M Makoni of Mandizha and Company and Eric Simbarashe of Absolom and Shephard Chambers. ‘Fraudster’ in Mutumbuka case denied bail Dzingai Mutumbuka.

The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Page 21 19 - 25 April 2024 www.masvingomirror.com ELLEN MLAMBO MIRROR REPORTER MASVINGO – There is serious boundary encroachments among provinces and districts as livestock is moved from one area to another in search of water and grazing, Masvingo Provincial Agritex Officer/ Provincial Agriculture Deputy Director Nobert Masiiwa has said. This is causing serious problems for the Department of Livestock Research and the Ministry’s programmes to control the spread of diseases and in particular January disease. Speaking in an interview with The Mirror at Makoholi Research Institute review and planning workshop, Masiiwa said there is a lot of vandalism of fence by farmers encroaching into neighbouring Provinces for grazing. Masvingo districts which include Gutu, Chivi and Mwenezi share boundaries with Midlands Province's districts of Chirumhanzu, Shurugwi and Mberengwa respectively. “We encounter problem of diseases particularly January disease and tick borne in districts which share boundaries with other Provinces. The challenge is that the time these cattle go for dipping is not the same and hence evading the spread of diseases becomes a challenge. Unless we raise awareness with consented efforts to all boundaries, we will continue to have residual January disease,” said Masiiwa. He said Government efforts through the Veterinary Services Department and Livestock Department should be consented on raising awareness to border areas between provinces. Department of Livestock Research Director Andrew Chamisa urged farmers to respect boundaries at both district and provincial levels. “We urge farmers to get animal movement permit before they take their cattle to other provinces. This is important in terms of disease control and in reducing cattle theft. We also urge our Police on the highway to stop and establish if animals being moved have required papers,” he added. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Page 22 19 - 25 April 2024 www.masvingomirror.com International News Vietnamese property tycoon sentenced to death in $27bn fraud case A prominent property tycoon has been sentenced to death for her role in Vietnam’s biggest-ever fraud case. Truong My Lan, the chair of the developer Van Thinh Phat, was found guilty of embezzlement, bribery and violations of banking rules on Thursday, in a case that has shocked the country. A total of $12.5bn (£10bn) was embezzled, the equivalent of almost 3% of Vietnamese gross domestic product, but prosecutors said on Thursday the total damages caused by the scam now amounted to $27bn. “The defendant’s actions … eroded people’s trust in the leadership of the [Communist] party and state,” read the verdict at the trial in Ho Chi Minh City. Lan was found guilty of swindling money from Saigon Commercial Bank (SCB) over a decade. She had been tried alongside 85 others, including former central bankers and government officials, as well as previous SCB executives. The trial is part of a national corruption crackdown led by the secretary general of the Communist party of Vietnam, Nguyễn Phú Trọng. The campaign, which is also known as “Blazing Furnace” and has increased in recent years, has led to the indictment of thousands of people, as well as the resignation of two presidents and two deputy prime ministers. Lan, who was arrested in October 2022, had denied the charges. A relative told Reuters before the verdict that she would appeal. The death sentence is an unusually severe punishment for a corruption case. State media reported last week that Lan told the court she had joined the banking industry without sufficient experience and blamed a “lack of understanding of legal matters”. She said she had “thought of death” in desperation, and asked the court for leniency for her husband, a Hong Kong businessman, and niece who were on trial as accomplices. The verdicts announced on Thursday followed a five-week trial that has been covered in great detail in Vietnam’s tightly controlled state media. Documents related to the trial, kept in 105 boxes, weighed 6 tonnes, according to VN Express, which reported the authorities had installed security cameras and fire safety equipment to protect the evidence ahead of the hearings. More than 1,000 properties belonging to Lan have been seized, and nearly 2,700 individuals were summoned for the trial, which included 200 lawyers. Dr Nguyen Khac Giang, a visiting fellow at the Vietnam studies programme at the Iseas-Yusof Ishak Institute, said the case was unprecedented, and a milestone in Vietnam’s anti-corruption crackdown. It was, he said, “the biggest case against a private business, with the biggest number of defendants, the biggest number of evidence and of course, the biggest number of money involved”. Although Lan did not directly hold executive power at SCB, she owned 91.5% of the bank’s shares through third parties and shell companies. She was accused of setting up fake loan applications to withdraw money from the bank over a period of 11 years, from 2012 to 2022. The loans accounted for 93% of the total credit the bank has issued, according to state media. To cover up the fraud, Lan and other SCB bankers were accused of giving state officials $5.2m, the largest bribe recorded in Vietnam. The money was handed over in Styrofoam boxes, Do Thi Nhan, a former chief banking inspector at the State Bank of Vietnam, said during the trial. Nhan said that after realising the boxes contained money, she refused the boxes but that Lan declined to take them back, state media reported. Since 2021, thousands of people have been indicted for corruption in the country, in what analysts have described as the most comprehensive anti-corruption effort in the history of the Communist party of Vietnam. Last month, the Vietnamese government announced the resignation of its second president in as many years, Vo Van Thuong, over alleged “violations and flaws” that had “negatively affected public perception, as well as the reputation of the party and the state”. He had been in power for just over a year after his predecessor, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, was forced out because of corruption scandals involving officials under his control. Evaluating public sentiment in Vietnam, a one-party state, is challenging. However, social media comments suggested many were shocked by the scale of the scandal, said Giang. While some welcomed the state crackdown, others questions how corruption on such a huge scale could go unchecked for so long. “[The case] might indirectly signal that the state hasn’t really been doing well in terms of managing the system in terms of the increasingly complex market economy and also the state is incapable of controlling their own public officials,” said Giang. Truong My Lan found guilty of embezzling from Saigon Commercial Bank in case that was part of wider crackdown

To page C2 19 - 25 April 2024 ChipingeTimes ChipingeTimes Mother to child HIV transmission, a challenge in Manicaland ELLEN MLAMBO CHIPINGE TIMES REPORTER CHIPINGE – Manicaland province is having a challenge of HIV transmission from mother to child because mothers are not registering pregnancies at clinics in time, Minister for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza has said. He said the transmission is highly preventable if women take up the available HIV prevention services. Mugadza said this at the belated 2023 Provincial World Aids Day commemorations held at Gaza Stadium in Chipinge last month. The commemorations were held under the theme “Let Communities Lead”. “The province is having a challenge of HIV transmission from mother to child which is highly preventable if our women take up the available HIV prevention services. The majority of these infections are as a result of missed opportunities in enrolling pregnant women on the prevention of mother to child transmission,” he added. Mugadza said the Ministry of Health and Child Care has adequate medicines to prevent transmission of HIV from the mother to the child. He said communities have to take part in child protection thus ensuring that no child is unnecessarily exposed to and born with HIV by making sure that all pregnant women register early and deliver at health centres. “Communities also need to address several cultural vulnerabilities that put women and children at increased risk of HIV infections. Our traditional and religious leadership are therefore being called upon to sensitise their communities and followers to address these vulnerabilities,” he said. He said the province reduced the HIV prevalence from 22,86% in 1996 to 9,65% by 2022. Another achievement worth celebrating is the epidemic control where-in the number of new HIV infections is lower than the number of deaths. He said new infections are higher in women than men and life expectancy for people with HIV has increased. Mugadza added that groups at the highest risk of HIV/AIDS are girls and young women between 10 to 24 because of intergenerational sex. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Page 24 19 - 25 April 2024 www.masvingomirror.com Religious News MIRROR REPORTER SOTI SOURCE, GUTU – Bhakita, Roman Catholic Masvingo Diocese’s newest missions has received a donation of a 5Kv solar power system worth US$5 540. The donation was made last week by Virginia Takaona-Holmes who won the system in a NetOne competition. Father Bakuri who is the Priest-in-Charge received the solar power system on behalf of the church. The assistant-priestin-charge is Father Hamadziripi. Speaking on behalf of the family, Matthew Takaona who is a twin-brother to Virginia said the family decided to donate the solar system to Bhakita because the two priests at the mission did not have power after the old system broke down. He said the donation was also in honour of their late father, Augustine Tsikirai Takaona who was one of the founding chairpersons of Bhakita Mission and worked in the same area as an Agricultural Extension Worker. Takaona said it was the duty of Catholics to look after their priests adding that it did not augur well for a church of such great faith to have struggling shepherds. Scores of Catholics danced with joy at the small handover ceremony. Father Bakuri thanked the Takaona family for the donation and said he will always have it and indeed all Bhakita members in his prayers. He urged other Catholics to emulate the gesture. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Sports news Page 26 19 - 25 April 2024 www.masvingomirror.com Bernardo Silva penalty: Did Kepa help Real Madrid's Andriy Lunin make crucial save? One of many talking points to come from Real Madrid knocking Manchester City out of the Champions League quarter-final was Bernardo Silva's weak penalty in the shootout. As usual with social media, there are theories circulating that Madrid's keeper Andriy Lunin might have been helped by his team-mate, the on-loan Chelsea stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga - with TV footage showing the two players deep in conversation, hands covering mouths, just before the spot-kicks. Luka Modric took Madrid's first penalty and saw it saved by Brazilian Ederson, but the momentum swung back in Real's favour when City midfielder Silva lofted the ball tamely into Lunin's arms. The Ukrainian keeper was a picture of calm as he planted his feet and easily collected Silva's shot. In the 2019 EFL Cup final penalty shootout between Chelsea and Manchester City, Kepa famously refused to come off for replacement keeper and penalty expert Willy Caballero and faced five City penalties as the Blues lost the shootout 4-3. During that shootout, Silva scored his penalty straight down the middle, as Kepa dived to his right. Social media 'detectives' were quick to dig that clip out and post online. Lunin told reporters after the match that conversations with Madrid's coaches had informed his decisions on the night. "I needed to take a risk with one of the kicks," the 25-year-old told Movistar Plus+, adding, "we picked one [to stay in the middle] and thank goodness it worked out in our favour." He told Marca afterwards there "were three players with whom we had doubts about whether to stay in the middle or not", adding: "In the end we chose only one because there are five shots and you can't stay in [the middle] all of them." Davide Ancelotti, assistant coach and Carlo's son, added that Kepa had influenced the choice of Real's penalty takers. Former Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic also had a penalty saved by Lunin after firing it just to the keeper's right - with TV footage showing match-winner Antonio Rudiger frantically gesturing to Lunin to dive in that direction. But was it another, more straightforward factor that affected Silva's penalty miss? The Portuguese playmaker had to wait about 40 seconds before taking his spotkick as City fans in the crowd refused to give the ball back. On TNT, former City defender Joleon Lescott said he thought that that "took him out of sync and out of his rhythm". Rio Ferdinand added: "It's a very long time when you are waiting there and you are thinking 'now do I change position? Now do I change where I go?'" www.bbc.com Silva struck the kind of central penalty that looks perfect - but only if the keeper dives early.

THE Sport THE Mirror 19 - 25 April 2024 www.masvingomirror.com masvingo mirror masvingomirror THERESA ZIBOWA MIRROR REPORTER CHIKOMBA - Chivhu Football Club (FC) has withdrawn its complaint of having 12 points deducted after ‘winning’ the ZIFA Eastern Region Division 2 last season. The club says that it is now pointless to pursue the matter as the Division 1 league is about to kick off and all clubs have paid their affiliation fees. Chivhu FC is merely demanding to be reimbursed expenses it incurred in playing the four unaffiliated clubs in the letter dated March 19, 2024. “As a club we feel let down by the delay in hearing our matter. Hearing it now will not give us our Championship, justice delayed is justice denied. Therefore, we wish to withdraw our complaint. However in your response to our complaint dated 24/11/23, you expressed your willingness to reimburse our costs incurred in fulfilling our matches vs Kotwa, Orangeview, Calvary, and AutoBeatrice,” reads part of the letter. Club chairperson Marufu Madhuveko told The Mirror that they decided to withdraw their complaint after writing several letters but to no avail. ZIFA did not respond to any compliant submitted by the club. “We decided to withdraw our case having realized that the Provincial board running our league took five months to arrange for the hearing given that the division one league teams had already paid their affiliation fees and the number of teams to play there already confirmed therefore this shows that the football administration is just a joke. However we are pursuing a refund of the expenses incurred when we played the unaffiliated teams,” said Madhuveko. Chivhu FC lost first place to Rusununguko FC after ZIFA deducted 12 points for playing Orange View, Auto Beatrice, Kotwa United, and St Lucy that were not affiliated. Chivhu FC withdraws Complaint
