Negotiable From page 1 SIMBARASHE MTEMBO MIRROR REPORTER MASVINGO – A Ngundu nurse who probably wanted to escape responsibilities strangled and killed his girlfriend’s baby during delivery and threw the body in a pit latrine. High Court Judge, Justice Garainesu Mawadze who expressed shock at the callous murder passed sentence today (Friday) and sent Ngonidzashe Mugabe to jail for 18 years. Ngonidzashe pleaded not guilty but Justice Mawadze found overwhelming evidence against him. The State outline is that Mugabe and Diana Rose Mudzingwa (32) were in an intimate relationship and Mudzingwa fell pregnant. Mugabe lured Mudzingwa to come and give birth at Ngundu Clinic where he works. When Mudzingwa who stayed in Waterfalls, Harare fell into labour, Mugabe instead of taking Mudzingwa to the clinic, took her to a place where he rented. Mudzingwa found just the two of them in the room and Mugabe started playing midwifery. Mudzingwa who was frail from labour pain was shocked to see Mugabe strangle the baby and stuff its nose and mouth with cotton. He then drowned it headfirst in a bucket, wrapped the body in a plastic bag and walked out. Mugabe later threw the body in a pit latrine. He then collected an injection from the clinic and injected Mudzingwa to stop her from bleeding. The incident happened on January 24, 2023. As if nothing had happened, Mugabe immediately afterwards went to the clinic for duty. The frail Mudzingwa reported the matter at Ngundu Police Station leading to Mugabe’s arrest. He showed Police where he had dumped the body. Justice Mawadze said there was no postmortem because the body was in state of decomposition when it reached Masvingo Provincial Hospital and he relied on Mudzingwa’s testimony and circumstantial evidence to reach his conclusion. He described Mudzingwa as a credible witness while Mugabe’s “testimony, and actions contradicted his age, and profession, and cannot possibly be true”. Mugabe said he was only having a sexual relationship with no prospects of marriage with Mudzingwa since he has a wife and five children. He also said that she had informed him that she was in a sexual relationship with another man when she fell pregnant. He claimed that he was confused and afraid of losing his job and family should it come to light that his girlfriend had given birth in his room. “Judging by the role of a nurse and a midwife you know the importance of a postmortem. If you had alerted the Police a postmortem would have been conducted and cause of death known. You didn’t want a postmortem and that is consistent with foul play. There is no confusion. You had clarity of mind to go and illegally take an injection from the clinic. “What completely destroys your story is that you are denying that there was foul play but you are agreeing that Mudzingwa accused you of killing her child. What did you do? You were supposed to report to the Police who would investigate. Instead you nicodemusly wrapped the body in a plastic bag and walked two kilometres and dumped the baby,” said Justice Mawadze. Ngundu nurse kills girlfriend’s baby during delivery From page 1 an dollar on the date leave is given to enforce the judgment. “On June 24, 2019, the US ceased to be a legal tender alongside the Zimbabwe dollar save for specified exceptions on which plaintiff does not rely on. Consequently, unless making an order related to said expectations, this Honourable Court can only order payment in local currency,” reads part of her argument. Makausi argued that a claim for defamation damages is not a transaction within the contemplation of Statutory Instrument (SI) 142/ 19 and that the Supreme Court rejected that a judgment in US$ contravenes SI 142/ 19. Makausi is represented by Samuel Banda of Advocate’s Chambers in Harare while Kikky badass is represented by Masamvu and Da Silva- Gustavo Law Chambers. Kikky Badass loses first round of US$500 000 lawsuit GARIKAI MAFIRAKUREVA HARARE – Justice Benjamin Chikowore has accused lawyers representing Harrison Marange, the man who bought Dzingai Mutumbuka’s US$600 000 house for only US$45 000 of delaying the matter and warned that there will be no further postponements of the case. Today, Marange and his wife Demiteria Zirenga’s lawyer asked for a postponement of the case at the High Court in Harare allegedly because his principal Tererai Hilary Gunje of Gunje & Chasakara lost a brother. Advocate Method Ndlovu was also not available because of the same funeral. Justice Chikowore said he would not have accepted the postponement had it not been for visually impaired lawyer Maimba who applied for the postponement. He said Maimba could not be ordered to read the papers and be ready in a short while. Laywer Maimba told the court that he got the papers a few hours before coming to court and therefore had no time to read them. Mutumbuka who is staying in the USA and is a senior World Bank executive is challenging the sale and eviction from his Chispite house. Justice Chikowore postponed the case to Wednesday 20 March, 2024. Dr Mutumbuka’s lawyer, Tomukudza Mudzimbasekwa of Sawyer & Mkushi Legal Practitioners opposed the postponement. Justice Webster Nicholas Chinamora who resigned last year following corruption allegations granted the order for Mutumbuka to vacate his house on a technicality. The order issued on September 18, 2023, instructed Mutumbuka to vacate the house (Case number HCH 4912/22) and assist the purported buyer with the necessary paperwork. The buyer of the house armed with Chinamora's order sought for Mutumbuka's immediate eviction. Mutumbuka then appealed. ELLEN MLAMBO MIRROR REPORTER HARARE – It doesn’t look like a serious case involving a snatched property worth US$ 600,000. The trial of suspects in the forgery of title deeds to former Minister Dzingai Mutumbuka’s plush house in the leafy suburb of Chispite was postponed for the fifth time on Monday. Witnesses some coming from as far as Chinhoyi are complaining about transport costs to court as Government reimbursements which are given in ZWL$ are paltry and sometimes never come. Magistrate Ethel Chichera postponed the case to March 21 2024 because one of the suspects, Tatenda ‘Shaft’ Wakatama (47)’s lawyer Enock Nengomasha was not there. He was said to be at the High Court. Detective Constable Tafadzwa Marashe was supposed to testify. The State alleges that Wakatama used his alleged girlfriend, Lynna Mlambo, a records supervisor at the Deeds Office to retrieve Mutumbuka’s title deeds and hand them over to the accused. Wakatama who is jointly charged with Prosper Biziweck and Jonah Ngome who is at large allegedly sold the house to Harrison Marange and his wife Demiteria Zirenga after making changes to the deeds. Mutumbuka has since been evicted from his house and a tenant who bought it for US$45 000 took occupancy. Mutumbuka trial postponed for the fifth time Dr Dzingai Mutumbuka.

Ward 10 Councillor, Sengerai Manyanga circulated a WhatsApp message on different residents groups warning them to be wary of a lion allegedly spotted on the fringes of Rujeko and Eastvale this morning. “We dispatched a team to look for the predator and we found nothing. Our team is back. We can’t find the workers who made the report to the councillor,” said Farawo. "Council workers have reported a lion spotted at Farm number 1 just after the pipeline between Rujeko and Eastvale suburbs. We urge residents from Aminas, Johane masowe, Eastvale, Hellen McGhie, Lower Eastvale, Sewage works and Rujeko to be alert and vigilant over the predator,” said Manyanga in the statement. International Women’s Day came on 8 March and is now history. It is a day that comes during March which is the International Women’s Month. The day in particular is meant to celebrate social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women with this year’s main theme being ‘’Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’’ This should be achieved by ‘’Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective.’’ When it comes to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, strong emphasis should be placed on those that are living with disability as this is one of the most disadvantaged groups. Of all people living with disability women and girls suffer more because of their gender and disability. How many men for example would want to marry a woman living with disability? Not many employers would want to employ a woman living with disability. How many women living with disability are voted into positions of power in politics, organisations and associations? How many females living with disability are promoted to high posts in the private and public sectors? The girl child in this category finds herself in a worse position. Defenceless she will be exposed to stigma, discrimination, sexual abuse and even ritual killing. In our own situation did the International Women’s Day make any difference to women, particularly women living with disability? As we go through March, the International Women’s Month are we in Zimbabwe investing in women and accelerating progress, their specific progress in particular which would actually turn out to be every one’s progress in the end. It is important to note here that the beauty and value of a human being does not lie in the wholeness of the body. It lies in the soul without which the physical body is nothing but a heap of dust and to dust it will inevitably return. Let us all then people living with ability learn to look at people living with disability as human beings equal to us in all aspects. The fact that someone is missing a limp does not make him or her less human. We are all created in the likeness of God who loves all, irrespective of our physical status, colour, creed and so many other differentiating aspects you may think of. Consequently we should love and respect each other, reason enough to celebrate every woman and girl child living with disability in an inclusive society. Celebrate the woman living with disability CHIBHORANI TALK WITH SEKURU TAURAI Vazukuru vangu muChibhoraniland, motosunga dzisimbe rino ratova gore rezhara mvura zvayaita hwakumukwaku ichisiya ivhu riine nyota. Please tighten your belts, we are in a drought. Yes, they warned us the weather people and said that we are going to have below normal to normal rainfall. These days they are fairly accurate when they foretell weather patterns unlike some days back when their predictions did not happen. Now the rain season is almost over and what they predicted is coming true. It would actually seem that most areas of the country have received below normal rainfall. Below normal translates to inadequate rainfall for growing crops. This in turn means that there will be very little or no food production resulting in zhara pachibhorani, real hunger in Chibhoraniland. We will also need the most precious liquid in the world for animals and creatures, vegetative sustenance, industry, drinking and other numerous purposes. You see, this liquid is so precious to the extent that given a choice between water and so called precious diamonds any normal person will chose water because water is life and without it you are dead. Now the powers that be are telling us that no one is going to die of hunger. When it comes to food distribution we hope that the distributed food will be available for all deserving citizens, deserving as in whoever is hungry irrespective of colour, creed, tribe or political affiliation. History tends to repeat itself, let us have a break this time around so that no one dies of hunger. One prob- lem is that zhara into- tuma kuba. When hungry some of our fellow citizens will not hesitate to steal, rob, kill and engage in corrupt activities and we are already beginning to see a serious upsurge in these cases. As time goes on we will definitely see more and more of this happening in our beloved country even kwedu kuno kumachonyonyo. Yes even the diasporans who left their country to join the diaspora really love their country Chibhoraniland. You all know that Chibhoraniland used to be the breadbasket of Africa and beyond. Now sometimes we are forced to beg for food from neighbours we used to feed. Of course we can blame climate change for our hunger woes but we also need to blame ourselves especially when we plan poorly and fail to take farming as a business and continue to idly sit on productive land without producing anything. Hunger negatively affects children, especially the girl child as many of them will drop out of school, become sex workers or are sold off in marriage. Yes, in times of famine our ancestors used to give away the girl child in exchange for food. Today parents and guardians do it for US Dollars. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Page 7 15 - 21 March 2024 www.masvingomirror.com Kwekwe Round up PRISCA MANYIWA-MASUKU MIRROR REPORTER KWEKWE – Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe (WCOZ) has called upon welfare organizations including Government to avoid weaponizing food aid because this will see an increase in sexual abuse and child marriages. Speaking in an interview with The Mirror, WCOZ Kwekwe District chairperson, Rosewitte Matsveru urged welfare organizations to prioritise women and the girl child in food aid distribution. She urged welfare organisations to neither politicise nor weaponise food against girls and women. In Zimbabwe food aid is distributed along political lines with known opposition supporters blacklisted from Government aid. “2024 is a difficult year for women, mothers and the girl child. The drought makes women and girls vulnerable to sex and child marriages as they struggle to get food. “We therefore urge authorities to come up with strict policies to protect the girl child in this difficult period. “We already have cases of child marriages in our neighborhoods. With this drought it’s going to be worse and I am calling upon the Government and whoever is going to bring food to prioritize the girl child and women,” said Matsveru. “We want all women regardless of their political affiliation to get food. Any partisan distribution will make women and girls vulnerable and they may be forced to offer sex in return for food,” she said. Zimbabwe Association of Church related Hospitals (ZACH) representative in Kwekwe District, Chamunorwa Marange expressed the same sentiments. ZACH operates in Kwekwe District, giving a range of services to gender based violence survivors through their mobile One Stop Centers (OSCs) and at their main OSC at Kwekwe General Hospital. “I would like to urge the girl child to protect herself from these vultures that will abuse her in return for food aid. Girls must always remember that there is tomorrow for them,” said Marange. He said that although his organization is carrying out a lot of awareness on such issues, many women will find it difficult to stick to advice given because of the need for food. “We are doing demand generation for One Stop Centre services and SASA dialogue meetings with communities linked to OSC outreach forums. They pretend to hear but they don’t practice it,” he said. He called for more awareness on the new law that criminalises marriage to children under the age of 19. “Child marriage cases are on the rise because most people do not know about this new law on marriages. Secondly the law is trying to de-construct an already existing culture of marrying young girls,” he said. Don’t weaponise food aid against girl child – WCOZ warns Rosewitte Matsveru.

Participants were warned that 40% of Zimbabwe’s tuberculosis (TB) cases start from mines and there are several other ailments which don’t affect miners immediately but are felt later in life. The programme which focused on topics like workplace rules, worker health, worker safety, and drug and substance abuse took place at Trust Ford Mine in Kwekwe. Some 50 miners from Zhombe, Silobela, and other mining areas in Kwekwe attended the training and the programme was facilitated by Wilson Simbarashe Maenzanise, and Oswald Ndlovu. Basics of safe mining raised at the indaba were that miners should employ trained managers, workers should wear protective clothing and there should be no consumption of alcohol at the workplace. “As miners you should make sure that your managers are trained and they have a blasting license. The key responsibility of a manager is to ensure that workers have complete protective clothing. “It is also the duty of the owner of the mine to make sure that all your employees are well protected to prevent fatalities,” said Maenzanise who is a mines inspector with the Ministry of Mines. He warned that 30 to 40% of TB cases in Zimbabwe emanate from mining. It is the miners who then spread the disease in the communities where they stay. “Some people lose their sense of hearing in the long run because they work in the mines without putting on their earplugs. “We also encourage miners to desist from taking alcohol or any drugs and substances because if they work under the influence of drugs or alcohol they may cause serious accidents,” said Maenzanise. “We are here to capacitate miners on responsible mining as we know they handle a lot of hazardous substances and different chemicals. In some cases there are incidents where livestock drink contaminated affluent from mines. “We are saying miners should operate within stipulated regulatory frameworks,” said EMA Provincial communications officer for Midlands, Ndlovu. The duo reportedly had a serious argument which escalated into a fight over a girl whose name was not given. Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident. The two had a misunderstanding over a girl, and the scuffle degenerated into a fight. Ncube reportedly drew a knife from his pocket and stabbed Ndlovu once on the neck and he became unconscious. After suspecting that Ndlovu might be dead, Ncube ran away from the scene. Police are appealing for information on the whereabouts of Ncube. “We urge members of the public to always solve disputes in a peaceful manner and not to resort to violence,” said Mahoko. The market has 282 vendors and the only other toilet nearby is a pay toilet. The problem of toilets was reported since 2020. Kwekwe Residents and Rate Payers Development Association Secretary General, Alex Homela who is also a vendor told The Mirror that vendors and customers are relieving themselves in a nearby bush and along the railway line and this is a time bomb for diseases like cholera. “We pay to council every month to use stalls at the market but they cannot provide us with decent ablution facilities. There are 282 people here with lease agreements but we don’t have toilets with running water. “Toilets are closed at 4 pm and open at 8 am which means farmers who bring their products early have no access to toilets. We raised the issue with council but they are not acting,” said Homela. Councillor Dialis Muradzikwa, the chairperson of the health committee said she received complaints about lack ablution facilities and she and other female councillors would soon be visiting the place to assess the situation. “I was informed about the problem and we will visit the place together with my fellow women councillors to see how best we can assist,” said Muradzikwa. Zimbabwe Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises director in Kwekwe district, Alfred Mkandhla said he is aware of the situation and has raised the issue with council. “I am aware of the problem. As an organization we tried to raise our concerns with the council but it has been years now and the matter has not been addressed,” said Mkandhla. Kwekwe Mayor, Albert Zinhanga said the vendors can use pay toilets nearby. “The toilets are there at the market but they are pay toilets. They have complained that the pay toilets are too expensive and we are looking into the matter,” said Zinhanga. 282 vendors at Mbizo market use bush toilet Kwekwe Mayor Albert Zinhanga and his deputy Councillor Janet Ticharunga. The workshop is being organised by 4-H Zimbabwe Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation working with youth across the political parties in the country. The objective of the meeting was for PWDs to raise issues affecting them before and during the election period. Some of issues were to get preferences like not waiting in long queues, providing sign language, shade for those with albinism and getting ramps and appropriate ablution facilities at polling stations. Another concern raised by the PWDs was lack of sign language at polling stations. They also wanted to be included in peace building processes because of their vulnerability and marginalised situation in cases of violence. 4-H Zimbabwe in partnership with the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) held a pre-election capacity building and engagement workshop with 50 PWDs in Gweru last year. 4-H Zimbabwe Director John Muchenje confirmed the engagement in a telephone interview with The Mirror. The concerns were raised with the NPRC and forwarded to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC). “We want to pursue the matter and see what ZEC did about the concerns. The process is continuous so we are also already working on continuing to improve our situation ahead of the next election,” said Muchenje. Muchenje said ZEC made a prompt response towards elections and made a communique to the effect that all PWDs will not stand in queues. She was speaking at Chitora Secondary School Grounds in Shurugwi last Friday where hundreds of women from across the country gathered to commemorate International Women’s Day. The theme of the day was invest in women to accelerate progress. Mutsvangwa was accompanied by her deputy, Jenifer Mhlanga, MPs’ and heads of Government departments. The event was colorful because of 100 exhibitors who had their wares on display. Mutsvangwa said one of the leading contributory factors to GBV is the lack of empowerment for women. “One way to reduce GBV is to reduce poverty among women. Women must be given access to economic resources and opportunities so that they are better placed to take care of their families and participate in society. “Community resilience is strengthened by empowering women. Women must be empowered so that they have the ability to take care of their basic needs. “Women are facing many challenges including lack of access to education, health care and economic opportunities. I am calling for more action to address these issues and ensure that women are able to fully participate in the society,” said Mutsvangwa. Midlands Police spokesperson, Emmanuel Mahoko said there is a general misconception that GBV cases are decreasing. He said the reason why there is such a misconception is because many women are so disempowered that they are not able to make reports to Police. He said that many cases go unreported hence the illusion that GBV cases are decreasing. “I am calling for more education on GBV,” said Mahoko. Mhlanga hailed women in Shurugwi for successfully engaging in organic farming. “Women of Shurugwi have been able to successfully grow crops without the use of harmful chemicals which is not only better for the environment but also for their health. Issues of GBV sometimes increase due to poverty, so poverty needs to be addressed through empowering women. We are here to commemorate International Women’s Day and we need to motivate each other as women so that no one can be left behind,” said Mhlanga. We have so far covered nine provinces in the country and tomorrow we will be finalizing our consultations in Mutare,” she said. Chaturuka mentioned droughts, cyclones, global financial crisis, population growth, low levels of awareness on SDGs and sanctions as challenges on SDGs implementation. SDGs were adopted by United Nations member states in 2015 with the aim of implementing them by the year 2030. The 17 SDGs mainly focus on economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection. Masawi had an opportunity to address stakeholders at the farewell function for his predecessor Aiden Mhere held at Triangle Country Club last Thursday. He said he was a man of a few words but hinted that he would be using some techniques from Tongaat Hulett South Africa where he used to work. He said he would be setting aside a day that farmers will come and familiarise with the operations of Tongaat including the sugar milling factory. Masawi takes over from former CEO, Aiden Mhere who went on early retirement last week. “I am a person of a few words but I know we are going to work well with farmers. I plan to set aside a day for sugarcane farmers to get a feel of the operations at the mill. We will not operate secretively, I saw this in South Africa and it really worked,” said Masawi. Earlier farmers had complained that they are not conversant with the operations of the mill and at one time small scale sugarcane farmers demanded to be given raw sugar by THZ instead of the miller selling the sugar on their behalf as per their agreement. Masawi said setting a day to meet farmers will give the sugarcane farmers an appreciation of how the mill works. Masawi joined Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe as Milling Operations Director in September 2012. He holds an M Sc. Chemical Engineering (Sugar Technology) degree and is a seasoned sugar technologist with 35 years of regional industrial and corporate management experience. He has held various roles within the Sugar value chain. Masawi is no stranger to the Zimbabwean operations, which he joined after fulfilling various roles at ZSR Corporation Limited, where he started his career in the Sugar Industry in 1988 as a Chemist at Harare Refinery. From there, he picked up several roles such as Operations Manager and General Manager at ZSR Bulawayo and Harare Refineries; and later as Chief Operations Officer and Executive Director for Star Africa Corporation until July 2012. He joined Tongaat Hulett Zimbabwe as Milling Operations Director in September 2012 to be later appointed as Executive: Milling Operations and Technical Services from 2018. He then moved to Mozambique as Managing Director for Tongaat Hulett Mozambique. There he and his team successfully implemented the turnaround of the Mozambican operations and today Xinavane is one of the best performing mills within the industry. In 2021 he was promoted to the Chief Technical Officer of Tongaat Hulett group. Working closely with the South African operations, him and his team successfully contributed to the turn around and improved performance and efficiencies of the South African mills. ALVINA CHIWANIKA MIRROR REPORTER SHURUGWI - Shurugwi businessman, Nicholas Gara is poised to revolutinalise Zimbabwe agriculture by processing his crop and coming up with the final product there in the fields. Nicholas Gara who is expecting 47 tonnes of maize this year despite a ravaging drought told The Mirror that he acquired a machine to process sunflowers right there in the fields and produce oil. This is not common in Zimbabwe and will likely be the first such venture. Gara owns a farm at William resettlement 25 kilometres west of Shurugwi and he is also the owner of Nichrut Lodge and various mines in Shurugwi. He attributes his good maize crop this year to flood irrigation made possible by drawing water from a nearby mine. The 38 hectres farm produces crops like rapoko, beans, ground nuts, maize and sunflowers. It also creates quite a lot of employment for the local communities. “My aim is to industrialise, starting in the field and ending the whole process in the fields. I have procured a machine that will allow us to press sunflower seed into oil which will then be sold to the local community and also used at my hotel. This is a major step towards the farm’s goal which is self-sufficiency and food security,” said Gara. He expects to host the district agricultural field day for the sixth time this year because of his major successes. “We are drawing water from the mine which is 800m away from the fields and irrigating. As you can see we are expecting a bumper harvest of 47 tonnes. In each field we have 100 cobs per line, times 45 lines. We expect to harvest 8 tonnes of sunflowers,” said Gara. Collet Mapepa, the farm manager said that they started planning for the season as soon as they heard that there will be an El Nino induced drought. “We got it from the Met Office that there would be drought and we started ploughing on October 8, 2023. We placed our emphasis on irrigation. We also grew drought resistant crops like sorghum and rapoko to feed our road runners which are 300,” said Mapepa. Questions asked include why the council sold stands on a Zanu PF Heroes’ Acre and at the Zanu PF Women’s League Hall at Nyika Growth Point. He was also questioned on Hanyani, a private company which Chibhi and the finance director allegedly formed to do business with the council. There was reference to a negative council audit report during the meeting which is the current basis of an investigation against senior council officials. Chibhi left the meeting held at the council boardroom at Nyika Growth Point in a huff and bought a bottle of poison on his way home. He left the receipt on a table at home and went to another house he was building nearby and drank the poison, according to sources close to the family. The Mirror established that Chibhi was called to the meeting at around 12 pm by Kudakwashe Gopo, the Zanu PF district political commissar and he turned up. The meeting ended around 3 pm. Gopo confirmed calling and summoning Chibhi to the meeting. “Yes I am the one who called him to the meeting and he attended. I however cannot comment on any other issues because I am not allowed by the party,” he told The Mirror. Present at the meeting were party bigwigs like former Army general Englebert Rugeje, Bikita East MP Court Zevezanai, former Education Minister Gabriel Machinga, Senator Anna Rungani, Central Committee member Univester Mukwena and Provincial member Simon Muchafa. Four chiefs were present at the meeting and they are Marozva, Budzi, Mabika and Ziki. Bikita RDC chairperson Thomas Mataga and five council committee chairpersons were also present. Rt Lt General Rugeje did not answer his phone most of the day yesterday. It is not clear what authority Zanu PF has to summon and question a CEO of a local authority whose line of reporting is through councillors and the Ministry of Local Government. The meeting buttresses allegations of a Government Policy which directs local authorities to report to Zanu PF. The DCC chairperson, Chamunorwa Taruona however insisted that the suicide could be for personal reasons. He said the meeting with Chibhi was cordial and at no time was he harassed. “The meeting went on quite well. No one harassed him. We wanted him to clarify some grey areas. After the meeting, we went home. No one thought he would take his life. I think he had his problems at home,” said Taruona. Mataga said the meeting even pledged to support Chibhi during the difficult time that he was being investigated for corruption. “I didn’t think he would take his life. We even told him that we were behind him and all his problems were under control. We supported him,” said Mataga. After noticing a receipt on the table, Chibhi’s wife allegedly became suspicious and followed him to the new house. She allegedly found him writhing in agony and took him to Silveira Hospital. Chibhi was transferred from Silveira to Masvingo Provincial Hospital where he passed on around 3 am on Monday. His burial is taking place today. Cheza is one of the 61 farmers settled at Mahara Farm but the only one who was evicted by the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development after making investments of US$200 000 on the farm. Cheza’s lawyer, Nyasha Maguranyanga of Mutendi, Mudisi and Shumba Legal Practitioners argues in the appeal that Justice Mawadze erred in granting his eviction as the eviction itself is unconstitutional. He also argues that Cheza had a right to be consulted by the Ministry before it made its decision to evict him. “The Court aquo erred in making a finding that appellant had no right to be consulted first before being evicted from the farm in question as an illegal settler, whereas the appellant at law is entitled to be consulted and heard before any adverse decision is taken against him,” reads the appeal. Cheza seeks an order from the Supreme Court that makes him the lawful owner of the plot and the Ministry and those seeking to take over the farm be barred. Cheza built green houses at the farm, sunk boreholes, installed a solar power system, has 105 cattle, 136 goats of an expensive breed, 56 sheep and employs 50 workers whose only source of liveli- hood is the farm. Former CCC candidate Cheza appeals against eviction THERESA ZIBOWA MIRROR REPORTER MVUMA— Two men from Mvuma have been sentenced to 24 months in prison each for stealing from a Canadian national who had pitched his tent in the small mining town. Sub-section 12 states that if the proceeds of such sale are not sufficient to meet all the expenses and charges referred to in sub-section 11, the balance of such expenses and charges may be recovered by action in any competent court against the owner of such vehicle. In conclusion, abandoning vehicles can have significant consequences particularly when they are towed away by the police, local authority, or road authority which include financial penalties; obstruction of traffic and safety hazards; aesthetic and environmental impact; legal violation public nuisance; costs of removal and disposal and loss of ownership rights among others. To avoid these consequences, vehicle owners should responsibly dispose of unwanted vehicles through proper channels, such as selling, donating, or recycling, rather abandoning them on public or private property. The screen gate to the High Court was locked and Chirumhanzu RDC Ward 20 Councillor Joseph Mutendi (38) was put in leg irons as the verdict on his appeal was heard. Justice Mawadze, sitting with Justice Zisengwe upheld the verdict by Magistrate Constance Mutandwa. Mutandwa sentenced Mutendi to 15 months in jail and suspended eight months. Mutendi who wanted the seven months custodial sentence to be altered to community service appeared jointly with his accomplice Collen Tigere (41). The duo defrauded a client looking for land of US$9 000. Mutandwa suspend five months on condition of good behavior and a further three months on condition that the duo restitute Learnmore Dzenga US$2 350. In passing judgment, Justice Mawadze said courts are overwhelmed with cases of fake offer letters produced by unsuspecting land seekers in Mvuma. He said Mutendi is a Zanu PF councillor who should understand Government’s policy and stance on selling and allocating land. “Documents were forged in the matter and this goes just beyond word of mouth. The crime was committed by a gang and this shows premeditation to commit fraud. You were just greedy and have actually prejudiced someone of his hard-earned United States dollars. The Magistrate did not ere in giving you the sentence. What message will we sent to others?” he said. Mutendi met Dzenga on April 3, 2022, at Mandizvidza Truck stop, Mvuma and misrepresented that he owned a 50 hectare plot in Binga Estates, Mvuma that he was willing to sell for US$13 000. Dzenga went to see the plot with Mutendi’s accomplices Takunda Zenda and Anderson Hamandishe who are still at large. He then agreed to sell the land to Dzenga for US$11 000. Dzenga paid US$9 000 in installments and was issued with a fake offer letter backdated to August 9, 2019, and a signed document acknowledging receipt of his installments. Mutendi also phoned him acknowledging receipt of the money. He discovered that the offer letter was fake and was issued another offer letter backdated to August 2021. Dzenga later went to erect structures on the land and was chased away by Mambewu Shumba who claimed ownership to it. Dzenga went to Mvuma lands office and was told that he has a fake offer letter and he filed a Police report against Mutendi and his accomplices. The signed acknowledgements of receipt and two fake offer letters were produced as exhibits in court. Chirumhanzu councilor goes to jail over land fraud Joseph Mutendi.

The Mayor of Gwanda Councillor Thulani Moyo told Two Nations that vendors should obey council laws. “Gwanda is one of the towns with vending stalls but if we move around, they are empty, people come and register for a table, but decide to go and sell by the road side, the laws should be obeyed that people should go to their designated area to avoid accidents,” said Moyo. He emphasized that selling by the road side is a criminal offense. “According to the Urban councils act, selling good or foodstuffs at any undesignated place is an offence and it can cause accidents, hence I want to urge every vendor to abide by the laws and go to designated areas,” he said. Team leader for Gwanda community economic justice Trust, Lungile Masuku, she said the vendors should abide by the laws. “I agree with the council because having vendors selling everywhere in town is making it difficult for council to keep the mining town clean. Papers and empty bottles are lying all over the place, this also causes friction between the council and vendors,” said Masuku. In an interview with Two Nations, Shantel Mokena, a vendor, said that they face difficulties to sell at the vending stalls. “We are having a problem with those who are not registered and prefer to sell in corridors. If we go to the stalls, we end up not getting customers. We call on council to force everyone to register and we all go to the right place,” she said. Bambanani has 106 registered vendors, NSSA stalls has 29, Njanji has 12, while Phakama has 82 registered vendors. MOG urges the utilization of vending stores Mayor Thulani Moyo.

They said [the ultimatum] will only last for three weeks or 20 days from the date they kidnapped the children and if there’s no action from the government, they will kill all of them,” said Aminu Jibril, a resident of Kuriga village, in Kaduna state, where the school is located. The children were kidnapped on March 7. Jibril also told CNN that the perpetrators said the kidnapping was “a way of getting back at the government and security agencies for killing their gang members.” The member of the Kuriga community said he believed the kidnappers got his number from the head of the school’s junior secondary section, who was kidnapped alongside the students. More than 300 students were taken early Thursday morning by armed bandits on motorcycles who stormed the LEA Primary and Secondary School in Kuriga village, in Kaduna’s Chikun district, the state’s police spokesman Mansur Hassan told CNN on Friday. Some of the students were rescued but 287 of them remain with the kidnappers. About 100 of them are from the primary school and the rest from the secondary school. The Kaduna Governor Uba Sani said in a statement Thursday that his government was “doing everything possible to ensure the safe return of the pupils and students.” Sani also said a member of the community who confronted the abductors during the attack was killed. Kaduna state, which borders the Nigerian capital Abuja to the southwest, has grappled with recurring incidents of kidnappings for ransom by bandits and has witnessed several mass abductions in recent years, including in the district where the LEA Primary and Secondary School is located. In 2021, at least 140 students were kidnapped by armed men from a private secondary school. The incident came just months after around 20 students from a private university in Chikun’s Kasarami village were abducted by gunmen. Five of those students were killed after a ransom deadline was not met, family members told CNN at the time. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Page 29 15 - 21 March 2024 www.masvingomirror.com Religious News FR ISIAH DHLIWAYO This theological reflection puts forward liberation theology as situational/contextual and aims to comprehensively seeks to give voice to the marginalized, powerless, needy and poor. It emphasizes salvation or redemption as an element of both the mundane world and an eschatological reality. The society constitutes human beings who are socio, economic, political and historical realistic in their daily lives. The future happiness in heaven concept is a thorny in the flesh amongst Christians especially the poor who are continually getting poorer and poor with promises of a pie in the sky.To this Marxist socialist critique exposes social injustice as the fundamental cause of poverty. According to Gutierrez (1988:83ff) he puts it forward that liberation praxis is a historical process that takes note of the totality of human history ,starting from creation to redemption. My thrust with regards to the poor draws attention in the backdrop of my contemporary life citing culture, political climate and church. Thus the God of the covenant is present and still active among the poor of history. The preferential option for the poor and marginalized of society is eximiously revealed in the Exodus paradigm of liberation of Israel from captivity in Egypt and how God's love for the poor is shown. The poor are vital.Their journey to redemption and liberation shows that the poor are not only freed from oppression ,but they are given power to be proactive reminants and agents of their own history.Simple put forward, the poor are their own liberators ,they can liberate themselves from any exploitative and oppressive social structures of any kind. Gustavo Gutierrez who is a protagonist (among others including Jon Sobrino,JoseMiguez Bonino,Leonardo Boff)for Liberation theology done in the context of massive abject poverty in Latin America together with his experience of living and working among the poor people of Rumac paints his works as vital to the discussion of this theological reflection. We live amongst the poor and the community experiences the all and sundry of the poor ones.James 3:18(Msg) highlights the need to cultivate communities when he says that you can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoys its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor. It takes both Gods power and our effort to produce a loving Christian community together with the poor people. Liberation Theology protagonist,Gutierrez works cites that poverty done in relation and identified with Jesus Christ who himself became poor to liberate us is really an evangelical exigency.,which critically exposes material poverty as dehumanizing and seriously divorced and never be a Christian ideal. The parable of the Good Samaritan emphasizes precisely what preferential option for the poor is all about.God loves us all.The voiceless are given voices through adoption of liberation theology as it subvert history when the poor and marginalised erupt from the margins to the public space as they become proactive agents of their own history. Thus according to (Gutierrez,cf.Gibellin 1979:12-14) at a conference held in 1968 known as Medellin Conference and after, poverty as an evangelical exigency was acknowledged as a truly Christian concept that can be reinterpreted and translated to solidarity with the poor, commitment to the liberation of the exploited classes and renewed involvement in radical liberation of the poor.Truly God has a salvific plan for both the poor, oppressed and oppressors.! +263773426115 [email protected]) Theological Reflection - Critical Social Analysis of the Poor
The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Religious news Page 30 15 - 21 March 2024 www.masvingomirror.com PART 4 The gospel is a universal message,it is for all men inspite of their diverse cultu ral, traditional, educational and ethnical backgrounds... It is for both the educated and uneducated Small and great Poor and rich.. It is good news to the hearer. This is why Jesus was precise when he gave instructions to his disciples, He commanded them to go and preach the gospel to everyone and everywhere... The preaching of the gospel is a sacred work and an awesome responsibility which was committed to the body of Christ which we must all approach with fear and trembling because it involves the the eternal destiny of souls, hence we must preach the word in season and out of season(at every opportunity inspite of man's reactions, comments, oppositions, resistance and responses)2 Tim 4:2-3 We preach the gospel whether man wants to hear it or not.. Woe unto us if we preach not the gospel(1 Cor 9:16-18)for necessity has been laid upon our shoulders. Paul reiterated his point in his letter to the Romans,he thus wrote, Rom 1:16 For I am not the least bit embarrassed about the gospel. I won’t shy away from it, because it is God’s power to save every person who believes: first the Jew, and then the non-Jew. The gospel is not news that brings fear or condemnation it is good news that brings joy unspeakable. The good news is called the gospel of peace(Eph 6:15, Rom 10:15) The glorious gospel of Christ(2 Cor 4:4) The everlasting gospel(Rev 14:6) The gospel of the grace of God(Acts 20:24,32) The gospel of our salvation(Eph 1:13) It reveals the endless, unsearchable and inexhaustible riches of God's grace in Christ.. Through the death, burial and resurrection of his Son God worked and completed our salvation, this he did to display the loviliness of his immutable character(Mercy and Grace) Paul puts it this way, Ephesians 5:5-7 That even though we were dead because of our sins,he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. 7 So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. Souls saved are the trophies of God's grace.. This why we must be more bold and intentional in engaging ourselves into world evangelism,we were sent to the nations of the world to preach the gospel(Mark 16:15-16,Matthew 28:18- 20,John 3:16,2 Cor 5:17-21).. In his wisdom God has ordained the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe... The apostle of grace wrote, The Message that points to Christ on the Cross seems like sheer silliness to those hellbent on destruction, but for those on the way of salvation it makes perfect sense. This is the way God works, and most powerfully as it turns out. It’s written, I’ll turn conventional wisdom on its head, I’ll expose so-called experts as crackpots. So where can you find someone truly wise, truly educated, truly intelligent in this day and age? Hasn’t God exposed it all as pretentious nonsense? Since the world in all its fancy wisdom never had a clue when it came to knowing God, God in his wisdom took delight in using what the world considered dumb—preaching, of all things!—to bring those who trust him into the way of salvation. 22-25 While Jews clamor for miraculous demonstrations and Greeks go in for philosophical wisdom, we go right on proclaiming Christ, the Crucified. Jews treat this like an anti-miracle—and Greeks pass it off as absurd. But to us who are personally called by God himself—both Jews and Greeks—Christ is God’s ultimate miracle and wisdom all wrapped up in one. Human wisdom is so tinny, so impotent, next to the seeming absurdity of God. Human strength can’t begin to compete with God’s “weakness.” God's wisdom is salvation God's wisdom is Christ God's wisdom is revealed in the gospel of Christ... The weakness(the writer uses a figure of speech in explaining a great truth concerning our salvation here) of God (God becoming a man to take away our sins by the sacrifice of himself once and good for all time)is wisdom.. Heb 1:3,10:12) This gospel is good news it makes us conscious of the sacrifice of Jesus, his work not our works His faith not our faith His love not our love His efforts not our efforts. The church has dwelt must on preaching sin instead of the gift of righteousness. On what people must not do and must do to be blessed, accepted and loved by God instead of pointing them to the sacrifice of Jesus which is the basis of their blessings and acceptance... Let's wake up to our call and proclaim Christ and him crucified.. 1 Corinthians 2:2 It is the gospel of Christ that saves... Ps Trymore Dzobo TOPIC; Understanding what is the gospel

The dancehall star, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, is one of Jamaica’s most popular artists and has collaborated with performers such as Jay-Z and Rihanna. Kartel, 48, has been in jail in Jamaica since 2011 over the disappearance of his associate Clive “Lizard” Williams, whose body has never been found. After a 65-day trial, one of the longest in Jamaican history, Kartel and three others were convicted in 2014. Kartel was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 35 years, later reduced on appeal to 32 and a half. Last month, Kartel and his co-defendants mounted their final possible appeal at the judicial committee of the privy council in London, the final court of appeal for Jamaica and some other Commonwealth countries. Their lawyers argued the trial judge wrongly handled allegations that one juror offered J$500,000 (£2,500; $3,200) to fellow jurors to return not guilty verdicts. The defendants’ appeals were allowed on Thursday, with Lord Lloyd-Jones saying the trial judge’s decision to allow the juror alleged to have offered bribes to continue on the jury was “fatal to the safety of the convictions”. The privy council sent the case back to the court of appeal in Jamaica to decide whether Kartel and his co-defendants should stand trial again. www.theguardian.com Vybz Kartel.

"Chief Chitsunge; Gandanga reBuhera" were the words emblazoned on the Chief's house, for the Chief regarded himself as the terror pirate of Buhera, you'd best be advised to tremble and run. For above the words aforeqouted, was a painting of a chief, yielding a knife. The Chief's house faced Chimvuri mountain, from which the skool's name was derived. Yes, Chimvuri mountain where the juicy succulent berries called magwingiziri could be found, bright maroon and delicious. In the mid to late seventies, St Bernard Chimvuri developed a reputation of being invincible. The exploits of its soccer team were well known as far as Chirasauta, Chiturike, Hande, Mahoko, Nerutanga, St Johns Chifamba in Gaza, and places yonder. It featured, among others, the dribbling McDee, the aggressive left footed Mhondiwa, the ruthless Costa Chikomo and a fast striker who was notorious for cheating with his hand. And the students of St Bernard Chimvuri, led by a gifted teacher called Mr Nyamututa, would edge the soccer team on with song and dance; "St Bernard is the darling of the heart. Why can't you accept, St Bernard is the darling of the heart?" And Peminus Magunda of St Bernard would outpace everyone else in the long distance race; "There races Chipodzana. He's gone, forget about catching him" And an energetic teacher called Mr Manjengwa won accolades with the school choir. St Bernard Chimvuri dominated in all aspects. A teacher called Cephas Nyoka coached drama and poem recitation. St Bernard Chimvuri was unbeaten when they recited the Shona poem; "The Wetlands of Buhera." "The wetlands of Buhera Situate west of Manyika. The land of Vahera, Museyamwa the bull Eland. It's portion is settled by Vazungu, Gambiza of the big breasts, Mutungi wechitete, chikobvu chinobandika, Hamadede, hamandaswa" It was a moving poem based on the need for conservation versus the destruction of the Mushuku fruit plantation by the actions of a dimwit. The dimwit who is described in the poem as "datawindi rechirume and chireshe chemukadzi," takes a large rock to the trunk of the Mushuku tree, pounding it to shake down it's tasty fruit, not caring whether the tree dried through his/her thoughtless conduct. And St Bernard Chimvuri was unbeaten in the Physical Education (PE) competition where a teacher called Mr Madzivanyika drilled the learners to perform physical exercises with military precision. The PE competition tested the ability of the contesting teams to accurately follow certain exercise routines, both in terms of posture and co-ordination. The teacher would instruct the pupils to move from one exercise routine to the other. The success of the team depended on the chemistry between the teacher and his pupils. And St Bernard Chimvuri excelled in PE throughout the reign of Mr Madzivanyika. The pupils would stand erect in straight lines, stomach in, chest out, and a wide-eyed pupil, on cue from Mr Madzivanyika, would detach himself from the rest and run to the front and face the adjudicators, and in a confident voice yelled; "What do you want here?" The straight jacket pupils behind the wide-eyed pupil would chorus in response; "Peeee Eeeee" The wide-eyed pupil would run back to his position in the straight lines of pupils, and at the command of Mr Madzivanyika's voice, the pupils would commence well choreographed exercise routines. Captivating! Spectacular! The crowd would go into a frenzy of cheering, whistling and ululating. And St Bernard Chimvuri always won. Until "The Teacher" came on board. "The Teacher" was a recluse. He didn't patronise the nearby Chimvuri bar with other teachers to partake in the waters that make men wise, and women otherwise. Neither did he participate in the rowdy drinking binges at Matimati Village near Chief Chitsunge's house and its menacing message. "The Teacher" lived with his wife, but the couple had no children of their own. They lived with a small girl. The small girl could be seen walking, countless times, to and from the skool's well which was near Father Gandiya's house, carrying a huge water bucket. She didn't play with other children. "The Teacher's" wife was a shrew. She didn't socialize or gossip with other ladies in the skool compound, neither did she show respect to any mere mortal, but walked instead with her nose pointed skyward, as if all humans beneath her stank to high heavens. Nearly every evening, the wailing voice of the small girl could be heard reverberating from "The Teacher's" house, crying out in agony and pain. She was being subjected to a severe beating by "The Teacher's" wife, for reasons that could not be established. But still the beating of the small girl by "The Teacher's" wife would not relent. It would go on into the late hours of night and into the wee hours of the morning. It was heartrending. And "The Teacher" would sit through it all, without uttering a word. This notwithstanding, "The Teacher" was still appointed PE instructor for St Bernard Chimvuri after Mr Madzivanyika left. In the year of "The Teacher's" appointment as PE instructor, the skools athletics show was held at Holy Family Skool near Dorowa. "The Teacher" hovered nervously around the PE team exhorting them to do their best. Onether teacher helpfully pulled "The Teacher" aside and surreptitiously shoved a bottle of brandy into "The Teacher's" hand. Much to everyone's surprise, "The Teacher" drained the contents of the brandy bottle and smacked his lips with evil relish. And suddenly, "The Teacher" was confident and energetic. He demanded more brandy, and emptied it in the blink of an eyelid. The adjudicators called out the name of St Bernard Chimvuri. The moment of truth had arrived. "The Teacher" staggered into the arena with his pupils in tow, his pupils terrified to boot. And the chaos began. "The Teacher" stood and swayed in front of his pupils, issuing incoherent instructions in a slurred voice, staggering. And the pupils responded in kind, colliding into each other and cursing. Confusion. The adjudicators saved both "The Teacher" and his pupils from further humiliation and misery. "St Bernard Chimvuri is disqualified " And the St Bernard team, led by the wide-eyed pupil, left the arena hanging their heads in shame, with "The Teacher" bringing up the rear, completely dazed and oblivious of, depending on which side you are, the anguish and the uproarious laughter which he had caused. Many years later, the wideeyed pupil wrote an article called "The Teacher," wondering whether "The Teacher's" domestic circumstances aforedescibed, were the direct and proximate cause of "The Teacher's" behaviour on the fateful day. The Mirror: Ihwai nekuhwikwa Sport news Page 36 15 - 21 March 2024 www.masvingomirror.com Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke says it will be ‘two to three years’ until the club is back at the top CNN - Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has welcomed British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe’s investment into the club, saying that the new co-owner can restore the European powerhouse to its glory years. Yorke concedes, however, that for the time being the Red Devils will not be able to compete for the English Premier League title. Speaking to CNN Senior Sports Analyst Darren Lewis, the former United striker said that Ratcliffe, one of Britain’s richest men who has recently acquired a 25% stake in the club, “wants to get Manchester United back, certainly at the top of the tree.” Yorke added: “There is so much negativity that is coming out of the football club that it seems to manifest itself on the football pitch. “And I think, with Sir [Jim] Ratcliffe being there, it will give us that energy and an impetus to go forward. I really do believe instead of many years to get to the top, it will be a matter of maybe two to three years before we get back to where it was.” Yorke scored 66 goals in 152 games for United and was a key part of Alex Ferguson’s squad that won the the mythical treble – the English Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League – in 1999. Yorke would go on to win a further two Premier Leagues with the Red Devils before leaving the club in the summer of 2002. Jim Ratcliffe has recently bought a stake in Manchester United. Jim Ratcliffe has recently bought a stake in Manchester United. However, the club has struggled under a series of managers since Ferguson’s departure almost 11 years ago and is currently sixth in the Premier League under Erik ten Hag. The 52-year-old Yorke is under no illusions about the mountain of work that awaits Ratcliffe at Old Trafford, particularly concerning the lack of recent silverware. “We are some way off the pace, and I think for me that’s where I’m disappointed,” he said. “We really should be in the [Premier League] top four relatively comfortably, and it hasn’t been that easy a ride for us. It’s always been an uphill battle and I know that the current manager, he’s doing his best. Gabriel celebrates scoring the 1st Arsenal goal during the Premier League match between Arsenal FC and Newcastle United at Emirates Stadium on February 24, 2024 in London, England. Related article Arsenal players ‘living the dream’ after underlining title credentials with impressive win “He had an outstanding season last year, and I thought this was going to be the time that United would be able to kick on. It hasn’t really materialized. “We are playing for fourth spot, not even third or second. We are playing for fourth spot at this stage.” Up next for United is a hugely important league game against rival Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, an opportunity to close the gap on fifth-placed Tottenham in the table – and damage City’s chances at a fourth consecutive Premier League. But Yorke just can’t see anything but a victory for the Citizens: “City look obviously odds-on favorite going into this game and I expect them to get a result. I’d be very happy to get a point in the game.” United had been on a run of five straight wins prior to a 2-1 home defeat against Fulham last weekend, though a midweek FA Cup victory against Nottingham Forest went some way towards atoning for that loss. “The Fulham game is a real setback, in my opinion,” said Yorke. “Going into the derby, obviously with City really in terrific form and having their key players back, I feel playing away from home is always going to be a struggle. “I’m very optimistic. I’m a Red throughand-through, and I want to see United back to where they belong. But I do believe that they will come off second best in this game. I just can’t see City losing any more ground to the [league] leaders, Liverpool.” One of City’s key weapons is Norway’s imposing striker Erling Haaland. He’s scored 17 goals in the league this season and earlier this week fired five past Luton Town during City’s 6-2 FA Cup win. Haaland runs with the ball against Bournemouth on February 24. Yorke believes the only thing that could stop Haaland being the greatest Premier League goalscorer of all time would be a move away from England. Former Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer tops the list with 260 goals, ahead of Harry Kane – now in Germany with Bayern Munich – and two United legends: Wayne Rooney and Andy Cole. “[Haaland] is a real goal machine,” said Yorke. “I think Alan Shearer is still the current [record] holder in the Premier League and was a real goal machine. Haaland is definitely in that sort of bracket.” Even though Yorke highlighted Haaland’s brilliance in front of goal, he still doesn’t think the 23-year-old could get into a combined team of United’s treble winners in 1999 and Man City’s from last season. Only one Man City player, in Yorke’s eyes, could maybe – possibly – make the bench of that all-time team. “I think Kevin De Bruyne would probably, likely, get in, and I think he’s the only one. He may get on the subs bench I think eventually,” the ex-forward said with a cheeky grin. “But from a starting point of view, it’s very hard to look beyond our treble-winning team. We had good balance, good structure.
