The Laureate 2018/20

KMB Batch of 2018-2020

Merdeka

No other day could beat the glory of Merdeka Celebration Day, the day all the hearts
of Malaysian have been longing for. MARA College Banting is no exception, with flags
seen flying high in all parts of the college as a resemblance of commemoration of the
great deeds done by Tunku Abdul Rahman and his allies to proclaim independence for

our beloved Malaysia.
It was a jubilant day. Lecturers were seen dressing up in Merdeka-themed clothes,
bathed in the ambience of freedom and liberty. The day was short-lived yet meaning-
ful. It's true after all, time flies when we had the most fun. Apart from the short gim-
mick commemorating the fallen warriors who died in the battle for the freedom we are
enjoying today, principally against the Japanese occupation during World War II and
the Malayan Emergency, which lasted from 1948 until 1960, there was also a fashion
show valuing those who were creative in their attempts donning Jalur Gemilang
themed outfits. The day was complemented with a sing-along of Warisan and Tanggal
31 by Sudirman, sowing further into the hearts of the community of MARA College

Banting, the love and passion for
Malaysia.

Indeed, we are blessed. We are
free.

Merdeka!

Raya Festival

First day of Syawal is one of the dates that Muslims have been waiting for. It is
time for them to celebrate their success of fasting for 1 month during Ramadhan.
The time for them to say their thanks to Allah, The Most Merciful, The Most Gra-
cious. It is also a time where people forgive each other, wearing new clothes and
visiting others’ houses.
KMB is also not missing this festival. Students are required to wear their best
Raya clothes for the occasion. The hall was decorated with ketupat, oil lamps,
and props that would resemble a feel of traditional Raya festival. Popular Raya
music can be heard playing throughout the festival, giving it an even more Raya
feeling. Of course, not to be forgotten, the main attraction of Raya festival – the
food. Students are delighted to enjoy a wide array of cuisines – ketupat, rendang,
sate, lemang, and kuah kacang.

Not to be forgotten also was the teachers of KMB. They were dressed ele-
gantly in their Raya clothing. Students took the opportunity to chat with the
teachers and enjoy telling their stories. A competition for the teachers were

also being held to make it merrier.
The Raya festival is surely filled with joy and laughter, as people cheered and

celebrated their success together. While people laugh and eat, it is also
hoped that KMB students do not forget the original intention of Raya festival

– to thank Allah for giving us strength to fast during Ramadhan.

Action Week

There is one thing that IB students fear a lot – IA.
During the heat of IA tasks, many students find it
hard to complete their IA’s. It is a common experi-
ence that will happen to some students. To help
them, the school authorities have assigned a special
week for them to gather information and experience.
For the whole week, there will be no classes, but
each day, a subject will take a period or two to do
activities. The students acted in dramas for English,
held cultural exhibitions for Malay, and even cele-
brated Pi Day with Choral Speaking.

These activities were designed in mind to help
students have sufficient information for their IA’s.
Despite the program being short, the students had
fun in taking part of the activities, and some stu-
dents found them to be helpful. The teachers are
always open in aiding students in their IA’s to help
them get 7 in their subjects.

Kendurian
(Ment Mentee Feast)

Upon entering KMB, every student is assigned a mentor. A mentor quite
resembles a parental figure throughout their entire 2 years in college;
monitoring their results, wellbeing, and doing everything in their power to
help them pass IB with flying colours. It becomes natural then, for the
mentor mentee group to form a close bond within that time as the group

learn more about each other along the way.
Therefore, in the week before the mid-semester break for semester 3, a
feast was held in KMB’s Dewan Selera for respective mentor and mentee

groups. The students arranged the meals with their mentors and
commemorated the event in pictures and videos.

Who knew? Who could have predicted that the feast would be their last
hurrah? Their last mentor-mentee session in their IB lives? Regardless, it

was a blessing that such an event was held; there is no doubt that the
mentors of Invicta are proud of their achievements and will remember all

the memories shared for years to come.

SPORT CARNIVAL

Sports. For many, sports is a common ground that bridges the gap be-
tween the many differences found in all people alike.

Thus, the MPP of 18/19 organised a week full of sports competitions that
ranged from soccer to ping pong to even chess, dubbed KMB’s Sports
Carnival.

For the ones who were in semester 3, the week felt like a breath of fresh
air in the midst of all the IA and EE deadlines, plus the stress of studying.

Every evening after class, the field and gym were filled not only with the
bright colours of Dartmouth Big Green, Princeton Tigers, Harvard Crimson,
and Colombia Lions, but also with blazing spirits and good sportsmanship.

The week ended with a victory for Darmouth with triumphant medals and
countless memories to look back on. All in all, it was a week to remember.

Minggu Penghayatan Islam

Islam is a way of life; that is a fact known by all. KMB has taken
initiative to incorporate this into the student’s lives by hosting Minggu
Penghayatan Islam in semester 3. It was a week-long event complete-
ly organized by the students, in which the theme of “Jom ke Masjid”
(Let’s Go to the Mosque) was chosen. In that week, many events were
held. For instance, the whole batch went and cleaned up a mosque,
listened to tazkirah, held forums, and even invited guests to give a
talk. Furthermore, quizzes and hafazan sessions were also held in the
spirit of Islamic Appreciation Week. The most memorable event would
be the Mosque Exhibition, where the students set up their own booths
and built models of famous mosques at the concourse.

It was a week to remember. KMB has always emphasized the impor-
tance of building a solid faith in Islam and making it a way of life
before the students pursue their degrees in different continents.

T.O.K. Camp

For every IB student, Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is a subject that leaves
their mouths open in confusion when unmastered. KMB has been aware of
this for many years, and therefore organized a camp to train the students
how to build Knowledge Questions (KQ) and answer them. This trip was
joined by students from MCKK and TKC, where the students were divided
into groups regardless of their school and had to learn how to work as a
team when instructed to come up with their own KQs at their chosen mu-
seums. History, the Arts, the groups took to the streets of Melaka to find
these KQs, building newfound friendships and memories along the way.

KASUKMA

For many sports-oriented students, KASUKMA is a perfect time to shine
and prove their abilities. KMB competed with many MARA
Professional Colleges, such as KPM Bandar Penawar, KPM Beranang, KPM
Seri Iskandar, and KPM Melaka. Many sports competitions were held for all
types of people, ranging from outdoor activities such as rugby and football,
to indoor activities such as badminton, ping pong, and even chess.

For most, sports had always been an outlet to relieve stress and KASUK-
MA was a perfect way for the students to be able to do something other than
pure studying. Everyone who represented KMB worked hard to win medals
and glory for the college. All in all, ask any student who joined and they will
say that although the event was physically strenuous and tiring, they en-
joyed it nevertheless.

CONTRIBUTIONS

Terkadang mungkin kita lupa

Terkadang mungkin kita lupa,
Rezeki kehidupan ini dari Dia.
Terkadang mungkin kita lupa,
Keputusan ini milik Dia,
Maka jangan disalahkan bila terasa tak mampu,
Kerana engkau milik Dia,
Dan kepercayaan itu juga dari Dia.
Terkadang mungkin kita lupa,
Dek terpesona dengan buih-buih dunia,
Sibuk dengan yang fana.
Hari-hari mengejar “berjaya” di mata manusia,
Tapi itu semua neraca kita,
Yang penuh limitasinya,
Walhal yang lebih kekal itu syurga,
Dan hakikat kehidupan itu untuk Dia,
Maka habiskanlah dengan taqwa.
Wahai sahabatku,
Jangan kau bangga,
Bila kejayaan itu milik kita,
Kerana tangan ini tak berdaya,
Tanpa diriNya.

Terkadang pabila kita lihat diri kita,
Sepertinya lebih (gah) dari semua,
Tapi itu tiada baiknya,
Bila dilihat diri masih kontang rohaninya,
Hakikat kehidupan,
Bukan untuk dibandingkan,
Dengan si fulan dan si fulan,
Sebaliknya untuk melihat diri yang semalam,
Dan masa depan.
Wahai sahabatku,
Jangan kau nyesal,
Tatkala, kau rasa kehidupan itu merugikan,
Kerana tiap saat itu penuh pengajaran,
Dan pabila kau jatuh tak dihulurkan tangan,
Maka ingin ku katakan,
Jangan ngalah...
Dan jika aku tiada,
Allah tetap ada,
Maka ku mohon, jangan tinggalkan Dia.

21/5/2020 Should be e day I end
my IB life yet e exam was canceed

So here,
[Exam was cancelled : Something for me to re ect]
Reminiscing back to the day when we were announced about the cancellation of the nal
exam, everyone was - shocked, panic, grateful, speechless *there were mixed feelings tho but
here is something that I would like to share that I believe there is something that Allah has
planned for all of us.

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, Dengan Nama Allah Yang Maha Pemurah Lagi
Maha Penyayang
Maka terangkanlah kepadaku tentang yang kamu tanam?
Kamukah yang menumbuhkannya ataukah Kami yang menumbuhkann-
ya?
Kalau Kami kehendaki, benar-benar Kami jadikan dia kering dan hancur;
maka jadilah kamu heran tercengang.
(Sambil berkata) : "Sesungguhnya kami benar-benar menderita kerugian,
We have been, struggling, giving our very best, burning the midnight lamp for this nal exam
and with all that, we gonna use that to pass the nal exam with ying colours. Yet here, one
thing I believe what Allah is trying to bersihkan is that, the fact that we're just His helpess serv-

yang bakal kita lalui as a student. Jadi, janganlah untuk kita risaukan kerana kehidupan masih perlu
diteruskan.
Doakan batch kami, Invicta 2020.

Bebas

Air mata jatuh berderaian,
Hati terikat terasa keberatan,
Mencari kebebasan,
Namun hakikat kehidupan,
Terperangkap dalam dunia yang tidak berkekalan.
Saban hari membebani diri,
Dari dosa yang tiada henti,
Saban hari melayan keinginan diri,
Hingga hidup menjadi tiada erti,
Melainkan untuk memuaskan diri.
Astagh rullah,
Aku mohon ampun kepada Allah,
Dengan hati yang jernih,
Untuk kembali kepada trah,
Yang suci lagi bersih.
Bebaskan diri dari dibelenggu,
Dengan memperbaharui nawaytu,
Supaya dapat bangkit dari lesu,
Untuk berlari ke dakapanNya yang satu,
Ya Rabbku.

20 Tahun

20 tahun.
Tuhan beri setaip yang kupohon.
Dari yang besar kepada yang kecil sekalipun.
Meski dosa tak pernah turun.
Meski syukur jarang meruntun.
20 tahun.
Orang kata hidup ibarat roda.
Tak selalu di atas akan turun juga.
Saban hari aku bertanya.
Bilakah akan tiba waktunya?
20 tahun.
Aku hidup berteka teki,
Sering ku risau akan diri ini,
Bersediakah kamu wahai hati?
Tuhan tak turut apa yang kau ingini.
20 tahun.
Kerana itu aku menghormati,
Juga amat rendah diri,
Dengan semua teman yang kecewa hajatnya hati,
Kerana telah terbukti berjaya saat Tuhan menguji.
20 tahun.
Moga kau kuat wahai diri,
Apapun suratan Ilahi,
Senyumlah dan terima seikhlas hati,
Itulah syukur yang hakiki.
Bagaimana kau mensyukuri 20 tahun pertama ini,
Tak kira apa pun yang bakal terjadi,
Moga kau terus syukuri 20 tahun lagi.
Dan lagi.
Sampai kau mati.

Ble ed

I remember us comforting one another whenever
one is going downhill,
I remember friends ooded into a tiny room
when one fell sick or downhearted,
I remember not being alone under any
circumstances (except during tests.. duh),
And I remember being blessed to be part of you
guys.
I remember getting rejected for numerous of
times,
I remember the feeling of not belonging just
because I came from an ordinary school,
I remember not liking all the IAs, EE and TOK
(they were tough and I mean it),
And i remember being blessed that we all have
gone through it together.
I remember them saying “we have chosen the best
among the best”,
I remember their voices echoing in my mind saying
“you are half way there dear”
I remember how promising and helpful they were
when things get egregious,
And remember being blessed knowing some candles
burnt themselves just to light the way for us,
Indeed, they are our teachers.
I remember how delightful we were when DS
served nasi lemak for breakfast,
I remember how some of us rushed in the morning
just so our dobi can get done on the same day,
I remember how adoring it was watching some of
us spend time with Baba’s cats
I remember us being mesmerized watching the
sunset and stars twinkling endlessly during the
night,
And so, I remember being blessed to witness the
beauty of Kolej MARA Banting.

A Pretentious Look
Into Thy Life as an

IB Scholar

KOLEJ MARA
BANTING

Somewhere and nowhere, all at once. Thou liveth in a land tucked away from all that both-
ers, full of scholars and wise folk trying to survive. Some argue that thy school situates too far from
civilisation, but we’ve not the time for such meaningless quarrels.

Let the night be dark and the birds be still, the shrill ring of the whistle pierces the air and
awakens thee.
“I literally just went to bed,” said thee, reminiscing on all the work that was just done beside the oil
lamp.

A quick bath, a short prayer; thy routine is to be done without fail. As a pair ye march to the
mess hall for breakfast. Eggs, bread, and tea will nourish thee for a morning of quills, parchment,
and a seemingly endless stream of work. After eating, thou shall not miss the daily mathurat, yet
another shield equipped to protect thee from harm’s way.

Today thou haveth the fortune to avoid the parchments and boards, in its place come the
alchemist lab, with white coats and cauldrons bubbling with potions of mugwort and uxweed to
further push thine intellect.

After hours of careful observation and calculations, to the mess hall goes thee, for yet
another meal of sweets and tea. Then come yet more learning, come midday thou start to fanta-
size of more sleep and thy warm bed. More prayers, more learning. Arithmetic, Alchemy, Physics-
all the information (and the work that comes with it) only continue to ow in.

Finally, however, classes were done. Thou speed to thy room and change into more physi-
cal attire. It was time for the best part of the day, frolicking in the grass as the sun sinks into the
horizon. Thou decided that all the running and chasing helped lock in what little sanity thou had
left.

As dinner approaches, thy friends gather at the café and share laughs while thy hungry
mouths gobble down everything set in the plate. It is fortunate that thou did not scarf down the
actual plate, so to speak.

As night approaches, that is when the grind starts. Folks gather in the library or open
space; all trying to study or complete the work assigned. Thou are not any di erent, settling into
thy favourite table and slaving away in front of the computer. For a while, thy friends meet and
discuss on problems and upcoming events. And gruelling work was done, and as tired as thou
may be, more work had to be done in thy room after midnight.

One more word, one more article, the mantra of “just one more” pushed thee through the
night, with the help of ca eine and adrenaline. But at last, thou had nally reached the word
count.

Thou proceeded to pass out in bed, and it felt as not even 5 minutes had passed before the
shrill sound of the whistle pierced the air again.
