OUR PASTORS
Lady Jestina Charles
Lady Jestina Burke Charles "Lady Charles'' is a virtuous woman; kind-hearted;
God-fairing; compassionate; hard-working; “effervescent and artesian”,
Searchlight.
Lady Charles resided in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago for five years from
which Lady Charles did an exceptional job. The work which she did was not for
her glory but for the glory of God also to help shaped and encourage the minds of
those whom she came in contact with. As the saying goes 'God has a lot in store for
us'; on her return to St Vincent and the Grenadines, Lady Charles reignited the life
of Bethel Georgetown which was located on Back Street, Georgetown. Thereafter,
Lady Charles begun the journey God laid out for her; she revived Sunday school,
created a Young's people group, both of which were expanded to the other
assemblies; was a Sunday schoolteacher and Superintendant. Lady Charles did not
stop there but was ordained as a Minister in 1953; created Bethel Care ''Love
Table", and started WMC group; weekly Lady Charles along with either of her two
companion (Cheryl Adams and Gwenivere Barker) used to visit schools carrying
God's good news to the kids in the form of Bible stories and songs.
Moreover, Lady Charles is a Nation Builder; “she never had any children of her
own, but Charles who has been a teacher for many years has cared for and guided
many youngsters by instilling values especially during their impressionable years
and even ensured that they were fed”; “also helped young mothers to acquire skills
for gainful employment such as dressmaking and cake decorating”; “she personally
took in and raised eight children.” Searchlight Newspaper
For an exceptional work towards Nation Building in St Vincent and the Grenadines,
Lady Jestina Charles was named and awarded the 2006 Regional Unsung Hero
Award. Thereafter, Lady Charles was awarded the OBie Award.
Finally, “"Lady" Charles regards it all as the work of the Lord and not her work,
therefore when she leaves this world, she is confident that the elderly will not go
unfed, foster children will continue to have a home, and young ladies will continue
to receive life skills training because the Lord will ensure that His work continues”;
“I am so concerned about this young generation. They get weary so easily, they are
not willing to reach out to others the way it use to be.” Searchlight Newspaper
Lastly, despite a minor setback Lady Jestina Charles recovered with renewed
strength from the Lord and continues to do the Lord's work where she is still active
in the Women Moved with Compassion group, Bethel Care, a student of the Adults
Sunday school class, and sometimes ministers at the various assemblies. Lady
Jestina Charles is Bethel Gospel Assembly St Vincent Assistant Pastor and the
spouse of Bishop Hollis Charles.
Bishop Hollis Charles
Bishop Hollis Charles is a man of valor, a humble, kind-hearted, and God-fairing
person who has obeyed God’s calling and is reaping the benefits that God has in
store for him. He as a Pastor because there was a need to shepherd God’s people,
however, he never had an interest in being a pastor because he had the ambition to
become a singer. Thus, God laid His hands on him and lead him towards becoming
a pastor and so he decided to fill the pastoral position. Bishop Hollis Charles’
favorite memory verse is ‘what shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world or
what shall a man give in exchange for his soul’ Matthew 16:26. This is his favorite
because the things in life are just temporal but the spiritual things are eternal as we
can have all we want in this world but we have to leave it behind so we have to
make sure we have the spiritual things first to mobilize cause Jesus said ‘seek ye
first the kingdom of God and all His righteous and all other things shall be added
onto you’ Matthew 6:33.
As a result, Hollis Charles was ordained as a pastor in 1967 and he has been
serving in the pastoral ministry for almost half a century as in 2017 he celebrated
his fiftieth year in ministry. Thirty five years later after being ordained as pastor,
th
Pastor Hollis Charles was then inaugurated as a Bishop on October 27 2002.
Moreover, the time arose where Bishop Hollis Charles took up leadership of all
assemblies of Bethel Gospel Assembly St Vincent. Bishop Charles noted that in
managing all three assemblies it was a very hard task especially when he had to
rotate on different Sundays among the assemblies where he would be in
Georgetown or North Union and once a month he would be in Owia. Bishop
Charles is thanking the Lord for the many persons that were willing to hold down
the fort while he was at different churches. Thus, it wasn’t easy but the Lord gave
him the strength and wisdom to lead all assemblies.
On December 17 2012 Bishop Hollis Charles was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II
th
Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Lastly, Bishop Hollis Charles is the Senior Pastor of Bethel Gospel Assembly Mt
Bentinck, North Union, and Owia and oversees all operations of each assembly.
Pastor Calvert Williams
Pastor Calvert Williams is a man of honor; portraits a democratic leadership style;
a kind-hearted; God-fearing; humbly; open-minded person. As the saying goes
‘God can turn bad situation(s) into a good future; when Pastor Williams was a
youth, he was heading in the wrong direction on his way towards splitting hell
wide open; thus he realized that the road he was on was a bad one. Hence, he
stopped, made a U turn and gave his life completely over to God and made Him
Master of his life. Pastor Williams made the wise decision surrendering his life to
God and vowed to live for Him until His return.
Moreover, Pastor Williams states that for him living a Christian life wasn’t easy as
a teenager growing up, he made it with God on his side and the encouragement he
received from some of the elders within the church. Just like any other person he
made mistakes but he didn’t let them keep him down.
After becoming a member of Bethel Gospel Assembly, Mt Bentinck Pastor
Williams rose to the position of a Sunday school teacher then to Sunday School
Superintendant. He did not stay there he also was a member of the Men’s Ministry,
Youth Ministry, and the Choir from which he arose to the position of Choirmaster.
Years later Pastor Williams migrated to Canada where he spent 11 years. While
there he sharpened his construction skills and attended Bible School.
Thereafter, he returned home and was given the responsibility of Pastoring the
Bethel Gospel Assembly, Mt Bentinck. Not too longafter he was ordained as a
Pastor in August 2013.
Lastly, Pastor Calvert Williams is still a Minister of the Gospel and loves it as he’s
the presiding Pastor, sound technician and is incharge of the choir. He is married to
Lady Currel Williams.
