Robert Kauf Award for Excellence in Teaching




The Robert Kauf Award for Excellence in Teaching is given to outstanding graduate

teaching assistants on the basis of exceptional portfolios representing either an engaging
and insightful lesson plan or a well-developed teaching statement.





Teaching Portfolio (Graduate students can apply repeatedly)

Needs to include the following:





1) Student teaching evaluations,


2) One faculty teaching observation

3) One observation by the Language Program Director

4) A three-page page lesson plan (Ph.D. students who apply a second time for the

award should create a syllabus for an advanced language-based course).








Teaching Statement Portfolio (Graduate students can only apply once)

Needs to include the following:





1) Student teaching evaluations,

2) One faculty teaching observation


3) One observation by the Language Program Director

4) A 1.5 page teaching statement









Submission: Please submit your portfolio as ONE file. Clearly indicate whether you
are applying for the Teaching Portfolio or Teaching Statement Portfolio award.
