St. Mark’s Senior Secondary Public School, Janakpuri, New Delhi - 110058
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK… Ms. Inderpreet Kaur Ahluwalia
Greetings to all!
It’s a great honour to be appointed as the Principal of St. Mark's
Sr. Sec. Public School, Janakpuri. Therefore, at the outset I
convey my gratitude to the School Management for reposing
confidence in me to lead as Head of the School, which has a
strong foundation, that all my predecessors have nurtured in the
years gone by. This trust is a perpetual source of motivation that
inspires me to leave no stone unturned in bringing about
reformative measures that would enrich the educational journey
of every student of SMS Janakpuri in the coming years. It will
be my sincere endeavour to carry forward the legacy of
St. Mark’s Group of Schools wholeheartedly, and take the
institution to greater heights.
It is my firm belief that each child deserves to be acquainted with an array of avenues, so as to trigger
curiosity in their exploring minds, for pursuing areas of interest and promote meta- cognitive thinking. As
we face challenging times, I take inspiration from Arundhati Roy’s essay, 'The Pandemic Portal’ -
‘Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This one
is no different. It is a portal between one world and the next. We can choose to walk through it, dragging the
carcasses of our prejudices and hatred, our avarice, our data banks and dead ideas, and smoky skies behind
us, or we can walk through lightly, with little luggage, ready to imagine another world and ready to fight for
it.' I, therefore, aspire to align my belief with the evolving education system and pioneer 'a culture for
change', wherein, every student from elementary class onwards shall receive intellectual pedagogy and be
given an exposure to the right environment, which will help them hone their academic and vocational skills.
This approach will pave the way and prepare our students to face the challenges of the real world that awaits
them outside the safe confines of the school. My endeavour will be to give the students wings to fly and
make each one of them capable of excelling in every opportunity that comes their way. It goes without
saying that with the blessings of the School Management, wholehearted support, hard work and
perseverance of the faculty and staff members and cooperation from the parents, this belief will be
translated into reality. I am fully confident that 'Together we can and we shall' provide the best learning
environment to our students, that will empower them to share space in the world, as proud global citizens.

Foundation Day Loyalty, Truth & Honour
Foundation Day is a special day for a school when the entire family has a chance to not only celebrate the beginning
but also to take stock on the significant developments achieved over the years and chart its future progress. This year,
though the celebration was on a virtual platform, the spirit and zeal to mark the 46th Foundation Day was evident
amongst all of us, despite being geographically apart. Various activities were organised for the students of primary
wing on the occasion. Our tiny tots of Classes I & II showcased their imagination and creativity in the greeting card
making activity. The theme was based on wishing good luck and prosperity for the school. All the students
enthusiastically took part in the activity. The students shared their creation online. The bright splash of colours on the
cards symbolized the spirit of love, care and respect, wishes and gratitude towards their school. Students of Class III
displayed their creativity by making beautiful and colourful frames. Some of them gave imaginative captions to their
creation, which showed how much they missed being physically in school. A Collage making activity was organized
for students of Class IV. The students created impressive collages on the topic: My School. The students enthusiasm
and zeal was visible in their commendable work of collaborating information and presenting it in a glorious manner
showcasing their love, pride and regard for the Founders, Management and Teachers. The students of Class V
energetically participated in the Foundation Day fun activities organised virtually for them, where they walked down
the memory lane and innovatively brought out the memories of the beauty of the inspirational years spent in the school
through their artistic skills. Their enthusiasm, out of the box ideas and creative spirit were praiseworthy. The Educators
felt indebted to be part of a profession where the enriched learners expressed their gratitude artistically through their
own Inspiration Trees. They pledged to carry the legacy of SMS Janakpuri to even greater heights. It was a nostalgic

GRATEFUL HOPEFUL JOYFUL
It has been quite rightly remarked by the German writer Eckhart Tolle that ‘Acknowledging the good that
you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.’ 2020 has been a year fraught with
challenges, the foremost among them being the Covid 19 pandemic. However, 2020 has also been a year to
look back and reflect on the things that we are grateful for – the things that hitherto went unnoticed and
unacknowledged. We have learned that we are stronger than we expected ourselves to be and inspite of
various roadblocks, we still can be hopeful and optimistic for a bright future. Lastly, 2020 also gave us the
time and opportunity to relish the simple pleasures and joys of our lives. Joy has, after all, proved to be an
incredibly powerful companion during suffering. On the lines of being in gratitude and spreading hope and
joy, our school presented ‘Grateful Hopeful Joyful’, the virtual cultural program that was put together by
the students of Classes VI-VIII.

ones’. She appreciated the way the show was presented, with complete optimism and the unstinted
contribution from the students, teachers, and parents. The euphoric performance of the students with

ASIA – EUROPE FOUNDATION
Our school has always encouraged the students to explore the world through various exchange programmes. Even this
year, when everyone was confined to their homes, students and teachers got an excellent opportunity to collaborate
with various schools across Asia and Europe. The details of the four projects are given below:
Under the ASEF first project ‘Cross Country Education’ the students and teachers collaborated with Zanneio Model
Junior High School of Greece. The members introduced each other, which was followed by the virtual tour by the
students of our partner school. They also shared the information about the monuments of their city. Taking the project
forward, the second meeting was held during which the students of our school provided Virtual tour of their School
wherein they explained the educational system, class room set up of Indian schools and highlighted the infrastructure,
faculty, curriculum and extra-curricular activities of their school.
The magnificent ancient monuments of Delhi were also shown to them through interesting presentations focusing on
the history, structure and location. It was a great experience for all the members to know about the educational system
and the culture of the partner country. The sole motive of the second project, ‘Better Together - Parents & Teachers’
was to discuss ideas that would enhance and promote the wellbeing of students, parents and teachers as one unit.
The third project, ‘Look in Reach Out - Mental Health for Teachers’, focused on the mental health of teachers and how
it is necessary that the mental and psychological needs of the teachers are met in order to ensure the best teaching-
learning outcome.
The fourth project, titled TE(A)CH Tips & Tricks focused on introducing various Ed-Tech tools in the entire teaching-
learning atmosphere. With the world having switched to online mode of learning, it was the need of the hour to discuss
various tech tools and platforms that are being used by schools across Asia and Europe and to have the best possible
blend of those tools to make the teaching-learning process effective and fruitful.
