This building is considered as a composite structure as it used multiple materials
for its construction. The following materials are used for different parts of the
buildings for various reasons.

Roof
V-shaped Clay Roof Tiles
Clay roof tiles are tiles that are molded at high
temperatures, and the density of the tiles are according to
how long the tiles are heated. The color of the clay tiles
used in constructing the building is Terra-cotta. This type
of roof tile is suitable for hot climates due to its physical
and chemical properties.
Longevity
Clay roof tiles have longer lifespan than many other types
of roof tiles, hence, clay roof tiles can last over a hundred
years.
Durability
Clay roof tiles are fire-resistant and do not rod. They can
also withstand extreme climates and hot temperatures.
Aesthetic Appearance
As the style is inspired by Spanish and Mediterranean
designs, the roof tile appears to be more appealing and
trendy.
Insulation
Clay tiles are known to be one of the best insulators and
since the tiles underlay each other, it allows a natural and
forced convection through the tiles joints and the channel
from the eaves to ridge. Hence, providing a cooler
environment.

CONCLUSION
Rumah Tangsi, one of Kuala Lumpur’s most well-kept heritage
buildings, has had a long and illustrious history that spans a century.
It began as the Loke Chow Kit Mansion, home to the magnate who
gave Kuala Lumpur's trendy Chow Kit district its name, and has
since been transformed into two hotels, a home for an architects'
association, and now a cultural and community space. This
historical building that was part of “Loke Hall” and now Rumah
Tangsi would not be standing today if not for Kuala Lumpur City
Hall’s intervention in the 1980s, in response to concerns from
members of the public, with PAM as a part of the effort. PAM has
successfully met the challenge and fulfilled the obligation to restore,
refurbish and maintain this building in a good state of repair.
The heritage buildings therefore stand as continuing testimony to
the city's commitment to conservation.

SUMMARY &
RECOMMENDATIONS
The opportunity to visit a historic structure was both significant and
wonderful. There aren't many historic structures that have stood for a long
time, due to the everchanging environment and development of the
country.
The opportunity to visit and study Rumah Tangsi in Kuala Lumpur was
given to us with great respect as researchers. It's understandable that, as a
heritage building, its current existence is still valuable today in terms of
sharing its cultural identity with the rest of the world. It's one of Malaysia's
most important heritage buildings, defining the country's culture in
contrast to modern structures.
It was also highly valued during the walkthrough, where the feature's
history, function, and current state were all appreciated. The mansion's
symmetrical layout, as well as articulate ornaments, have brought the
traditional essence up to date. Upon entering the building, we were
greeted with a warm atmosphere.
