“Freedom of Choice” July 1, 2000

A DEA officer stopped at our farm he said “I need to
inspect your farm for illegal growing drugs.”
I said “Ok, but don’t go in that field over there.” The
DEA officer exploded saying, “Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me!” Reaching into his rear
pants pocket, the arrogant officer removed his badge & shoved it in my face. “See this badge?! This badge means I am
allowed to go wherever I wish, No questions asked!! Have I made myself clear?” I nodded politely, apologized, & went
about my chores. A short time later, I heard loud screams, looked up, & saw the DEA officer running for his life, being
chased by my big old mean bull…. With every step the bull was gaining ground on the officer, & it seemed likely that
he’d sure enough get gored before he reached safety. The officer was clearly terrified. I threw down my tools, ran to
the fence & yelled at the top of my lungs “Your badge, show him your BADGE!!”

There was an old man, a boy & a donkey. They were going to town & the boy was riding the donkey, the old man walking
alongside. As they rambled along, they passed some women sitting in the shade. One of the women said, ''Shame on you,
a great lump of a boy, riding while your father is walking." The man & boy thought maybe the critics were right so they
changed positions. Later they walked by a group of women by the river. One said, "How could you make your little boy walk
in the hot sun while you ride!" So they decided that maybe they both should walk. Next they met some men on the road.
"How stupid you are to walk when you have a perfectly good donkey to ride!" one said. So both father & son clambered
onto the donkey, deciding they both should ride. They were soon settled & underway when they encountered some children,
one girl shouted, "How mean to put such a load on a poor little animal."
The moral ---you cannot please all the people all the time.

says the man, "She never did let me finish a sentence."

BANDIT’S CANTINA BAD JOKE LIBRARY-- Little Bruce & Jen are, but they know they are in love. One day they
decide that they want to get married, so Bruce goes to Jenny's father to ask for her hand. Bruce walks up to him &
says, "Mr. Smith, me & Jen are in love & I want to ask you for her hand in marriage." Thinking this was the cutest thing,
He replies, "Well, Bruce, you are 10. Where will you 2 live?" Without thinking about it, Bruce replies, "In Jen's room.
It's bigger than mine & we can both fit there." Mr. Smith says with a grin, "Okay, then how will you live? You're not old
enough to get a job. You'll need to support Jenny." Bruce replies. "Our allowance, Jenny makes $5 a week & I make
$10 a week. That's about $60 a month, so that should do us just fine." Mr. Smith is impressed Bruce has put so much
thought into this. "Well, Bruce, it seems like you have everything figured out. I just have one more question. What will
you do if you should have children?" Bruce shrugs & says, "Well, we've been lucky so far." Mr. Smith no longer thinks

A man took a cup of water & put it in the microwave to heat it, something he had done many times, he wanted to bring
the water to a boil for his coffee. The timer stopped, he removed the cup from the oven. As he looked into the cup, he
noted that the water was not boiling, suddenly the water in the cup 'blew up' into his face, due to the build-up of energy
. His face was blistered & he had 1st degree burns to his face. While at the hospital, the doc who was attending to
him stated that this is a fairly common occurrence & water alone should never be heated in a microwave, something
should be placed in the cup to diffuse the energy such as a wooden stir stick, tea bag, etc, (nothing metal). General
Electric's Response: Thanks for contacting us; The e-mail that you received is correct. Microwaved water & other
liquids do not always bubble when they reach boiling point. They can actually get superheated & not bubble at all. The
superheated liquid will bubble up out of the cup when it is moved or when something like a spoon or tea bag is put into
it. To prevent this from happening & causing injury, do not heat any liquid for more than two minutes per cup. After
heating, let the cup stand in the microwave for thirty seconds before moving it or adding anything into it.

Backroom Briefing: Cultivating the Garden State Weekly political notes from The News
Service of Florida By Jim Saunders ©2021. All rights reserved; see terms. TALLAHASSEE --- Gov DeSantis raised
money in NJ, & Democratic gubernatorial candidate Nikki Fried didn’t waste time trying to capitalize on it. “As COVID
hospitalizations remain near all-time highs, DeSantis went to NJ to raise money from a major Trump donor,” Fried’s
campaign said. Fried, the state agriculture commissioner who regularly spars with DeSantis, also tweeted: “Ted Cruz
bailed on his state to vacation in Cancun. DeSantis went to Jersey. So, yes, DeSantis is the worst.” Congressman
Charlie Crist, the other big-name Democrat in the gubernatorial field, joined the fray with a tweet: “Retweet if you think
it’s despicable for DeSantis to abandon a FL-in-crisis to go to a fundraiser in NJ.”
The NJ Globe political website reported DeSantis appeared in the oceanfront borough of Deal --- for a Sun morning
“high dollar” fundraiser for his 2022 re-election campaign. “Unlike 2014, when no GOP candidate would dare raise
money in NJ without the permission of Gov Christie, potential 2024 presidential candidates no longer hesitate to
cultivate donors in the Garden State,” referring to former NJ Rep Gov Chris Christie. It added, DeSantis “has already
raised $626,254 from NJ-based donors.”

SPECIAL REQUEST State Rep Sabatini, a Howey/Hills Rep running for Congress, is trying to call out
members of his own party over masks & vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic.. Sabatini sent a letter to the other
159 members of the Legislature about the possibility of holding a special session to ban mask & vaccine mandates.
“The public has a right to know which elected officials will stand up for their rights,” tweeted Sabatini, an attorney who
has filed lawsuits challenging local mask mandates. “Lawless local governments, radical school boards & woke
corporations throughout our state are violating the individual medical freedom & medical privacy of employees &
members of the public with onerous mandates that have no place in the Free State of FL,” Sabatini wrote in the letter,
which quickly drew rebukes from several Democrats.

--Justices to Hear Local Gun Regulations Case TALLAHASSEE --- The FL Supreme Court will take up a closely
watched case about a 2011 state law that threatens tough penalties if city & Cnty officials approve gun-related
regulations. Cities, counties & local officials challenged the 2011 law after the Feb 18 mass shooting in Parkland that
killed 17 people.

FL since 1987 has barred cities & counties from passing regulations that are stricter than state firearms laws, & the
penalties in the 2011 law were designed to strengthen that “preemption.” The law, for ex, could lead to local officials
facing $5,000 fines & potential removal from office for passing gun regulations. The local governments & officials did
not challenge the underlying 1987 law but contended the penalties in the 2011 law were unconstitutional. A Leon Cnty
circuit judge in 2019 found that parts of the law were unconstitutional, but a three-judge panel of the 1st District Court
of Appeal disagreed in April.

“Taken together, FL’s Constitution & statutes limit counties’ & municipalities’ powers of self-government by requiring
consistency with legislatively enacted general & special laws,” appeals court Judge Susan Kelsey wrote in a 14-page
opinion joined by Judges Stephanie Ray & Brad Thomas. “As the trial court correctly noted & appellees (the local
governments & officials) do not dispute, the FL Legislature likewise is authorized to enact general laws preempting all
regulation in an area of the law. As this case illustrates, the Legislature has exercised its preemption authority with
respect to firearms & ammunition.”

In a June 25 brief asking the Supreme Court to hear the case, attorneys for the challengers argued that local officials &
governments “are entitled, under the FL Constitution, to traditional legislative & governmental immunities that limit the
Legislature’s authority to punish local lawmaking.” “It (the 1st District Court of Appeal ruling) also threatens
fundamental principles of representative democracy enshrined in the FL Constitution,” the brief said. “Without these
immunities, the risk of a subsequent, adverse judicial determination of preemption will chill the ability of local
governments & their respective officials to fashion laws they reasonably believe are both necessary to protect public
health & safety & not preempted.” But in an Aug. 2 brief, lawyers in Attorney General Ashley Moody’s office argued that
the Supreme Court should not take up the case & said the state Constitution “expressly grants the Legislature plenary
authority over the state’s local governments.” “In the decision below, the First District upheld statutory penalties for
local officials who flout the Legislature’s preemption of local laws respecting firearms & ammunition. That decision is
correct & consistent with both precedent & the text & structure of the FL Constitution, which ‘establishes the
constitutional superiority of the Legislature’s power over (local) power,’” the state’s brief said, partially quoting a
Supreme Court precedent.

Attorneys for the local governments wrote in a 2019 court document that city & Cnty officials had been urged to take
actions after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting. Those requests involved such things as requiring procedures or
documentation to ensure compliance with background checks & waiting periods for gun purchases & requiring
reporting of failed background checks. But the attorneys said local governments refrained from going ahead with the
proposals because of the potential penalties in state law. Along with officials facing the possibility of fines & removal
from office, the law would allow members of the public & organizations to receive damages & attorney fees if they
successfully sue local governments for improper gun regulations.

Backroom Briefing: Bracing for 2022 Weekly political notes from The News Service of FL By Dara Kam and
Jim Turner 18 hrs ago ©2021 The News Service of FL. All rights reserved; see terms.
TALLAHASSEE --- After last year’s emotionally charged elections & in anticipation of what some predict will be a
tsunami of threats to elections officials, a bipartisan group of high-powered lawyers are joining forces & enlisting others
to offer free legal advice to elections administrators. They’ve tapped Pasco Cnty Supervisor of Elections to serve on
the advisory board for the newly created Election Official Legal Defense Network. The nonprofit is co-chaired by Ben
Ginsberg, a veteran Republican attorney who represented President George W. Bush’s campaign during the 2000
recount, & Bob Bauer, a longtime Democratic attorney who served as White House counsel under former President
Obama. Beckett. “It’s almost sad & unfortunate that we have to be talking about this. You know, odd-numbered years
are usually pretty low-key elections. It’s like last November just continues, sort of like Groundhog Day,” Corley told
reporters Wednesday during a Zoom call to announce the group. Corley said he was hit with death threats, & dozens
of racial slurs were lobbed at his workers following last year’s presidential election, despite FL’s smooth election. A
group of protesters showed up at the home where Corley previously lived with his ex-wife & son,

who were still residing at the house, he said. He received death threats on social media. The Pasco supervisor said he
had to enlist the aid of local & federal law enforcement. “The fact that an election administrator has to deal with the FBI
Joint Task Force on Domestic Terrorism, if that’s not troubling & (doesn’t) shock individuals to their core, certainly
nothing will,” Corley said. But what’s coming might be worse, Corley & others involved in the new group fear. “The
hostility & the tone of those reaching out to our offices is palpable,” Corley said. FL is among dozens of states that
have enacted new elections laws that, among other things, make it more difficult to vote by mail. FL’s law is the subject
of at least four pending federal lawsuits. The new laws, in part, are what prompted the creation of the legal defense
network, its leaders said. “We are really concerned about this potentially harming the administration of elections, & for
voters to start wondering about the impartiality of the administration of elections,” Ginsberg said. “It’s a huge problem.”

The FL law, approved by GOP legislators this spring, also includes a requirement that election workers staff “drop
boxes,” where voters can submit mail-in ballots, at all times. Supervisors who violate the requirement face $25,000
fines. “The net effect for my colleagues & I in FL is going to be, in a state where we’re all about fiscal responsibility,
doubling up on those resources. That’s taxpayer money. I’m not going to risk having someone snap a photo because
one of my co-workers had a potty emergency,” Corley said. “So the net effect is going to be hundreds of thousands of
dollars additional cost to taxpayers. For what? It’s ... No words.”

ONE LAST BIG SALE Already one of the wealthiest members of the Legislature, Sen Gainer, R-Panama City, has
seen his net worth grow 25% after selling the remainder of his fleet of auto dealerships. The 6 dealerships sold for $21
million. “This made quite a variance in my net worth as well as my cash on hand,” Gainer said in a statement he
included with an annual financial disclosure report that he submitted Aug. 26 to the state Commission on Ethics. “I kept
the cash in the businesses as well as my personal vehicles, antique cars, receivables, & non-essential items, I also
kept my interest in warranty reinsurance companies. This transaction represented 55 yrs in the automobile business.”
Gainer’s net worth stood at $59.445 million, up from $47.24 million in a report filed last year. He first got into the auto
dealership ownership game in 1968. While disclosure reports were due July 1, lawmakers had until Sept. 1 to submit
Reports had been posted on the commission’s website by all but two legislators --- Rep. Kamia Brown, D-Ocoee, &
Rep. Omari Hardy, D-West Palm Beach. The commission imposes a late fee of $25 a day starting Sept. 2.

WALK IT OFF Gov DeSantis, it appears, would hate for his Tampa Bay Buccaneers to get tripped up by National
Football League’s COVID-19 protocols. With the team he’s rooted for since growing up in Dunedin 100% vaccinated &
its Hall of Fame-bound quarterback Tom Brady recently acknowledging he caught the virus shortly after winning the
Super Bowl in Feb, DeSantis opined against the NFL rules for vaccinated players. “I hope that there'll be some
rationality brought upon this,” DeSantis said. “I mean, if somebody has had COVID & is vaccinated, all these different
things, you know, I would hate to see them put out just for getting some type of asymptomatic, you know, positive test.
So, hopefully they'll have some rationality to that, & we'll be full strength every single day throughout the season.”
Among the NFL’s rules, vaccinated players who test positive must isolate immediately. If they remain symptom-free
they can return as soon as 48 hours if they test negative in tests taken 24 hour apart. Another ex, players who
experience symptoms must wait until they are asymptomatic for 48 hrs & record back-to-back negative tests 24 hrs
apart. Brady told the Tampa Bay Times he expects this year could be more difficult than last year because of the
spread of the delta variant. "I actually think it's going to play more of a factor this year than last year, just because of
the way what we're doing now & what the stadium is going to look like & what the travel is going to look like & the
people in the building & the fans," Brady told the Times.

TWEET OF THE WEEK: “If you say someone is off his rocker then aren’t you saying he was at least temporarily
insane & not accountable for his actions? DeSantis is essentially admitting this guy wasn’t in control of his actions.” ---
Central FL resident & former NBA coach Stan Van Gundy (@RealStanVG), reacting to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ description
of a man arrested in a mass shooting in Lakeland.

---- CALIFORNIA GUN NUT REPORT-- the
Assembly Appropriations Committee passed Senate
Bills 264 & 715, two anti-gun bills which would
restrict gun shows in Orange Cnty & Costa Mesa, &
prohibit hunters under the age of 21 from purchasing
a hunting rifle or shotgun. These bills will now head to the Assembly floor, where they will soon be eligible for votes.
Please click the red button below to contact your Assembly member & ask them to OPPOSE SB 264 & SB 715.
Senate Bill 264, as amended, prohibits officers, employees, operators, lessees, or licensees of the 32nd District
Agricultural Association from entering into any agreement to allow for the sale of any firearm, firearm parts, or
ammunition on property or buildings that comprise the OC Fair & Event Center or properties in Orange Cnty & Costa
Mesa that are owned, leased, operated, or occupied by the District. This imposes a one-size-fits-all restriction to
prevent officials from deciding how to use venues. Senate Bill 715 limits when a hunting license satisfies the
requirements for adults under 21 purchasing a long gun. This means an individual who has purchased a license for an
upcoming season will not satisfy the requirements in order to obtain a firearm for hunting. Thank you for making your
voice heard against these bills!
----------- Provisions of AB 1237 that would make available to certain researchers a litany of information on gun owners
(including personal identifying information) have been resurrected in the Legislature. Please contact your lawmakers &
ask them to OPPOSE AB 173 & SB 173.

Assembly Bill 173/Senate Bill 173 require that the California Dept of Justice (DOJ) supply state information, including
personal identifying information, to the UC Gun Violence Research Center at UC Davis, & allows the DOJ to provide
this same information to certain non-profits & state agencies. This legislation creates grave privacy concerns, as well
as concerns that this information could be provided to groups that create biased “research” to push gun control policies
without actually researching root causes of violence.

MASSACHUSETTS NEWS--“As a Massachusetts resident & an avid car enthusiast, I am enthused to see the
introduction of a bill to remove the front plate requirement for the state,” noted Josh Shapiro to his lawmakers earlier
this year. “I believe that the removal of this requirement will both improve the appearance of all cars in the state, but
more importantly, it will help residents of Massachusetts by not requiring them to drill holes in their front bumper, which
can help improve the appeal of Massachusetts owned cars in states that do not require a front license plate. This bill
has the ability to bring Massachusetts in line with other states that have moved to lift the same requirement and would
accommodate cars that were not built with having a front plate in mind.” He and fellow residents are still waiting for the
legislature to take action on the bill this year. --SEMA

EPA FINES SPEED SHOP AS PART OF ITS NATIONAL COMPLIANCE
As the EPA targets & increases enforcement against automotive aftermarket
companies through its National Compliance Initiative, the federal agency is
harming legitimate businesses in the motorsports industry. Despite the EPA’s
nonbinding, informational claims that it is not targeting aftermarket companies
that produce parts for dedicated race cars, the EPA continues to pursue cases
based on supposition, impose inordinate monetary fines, & pursue legal actions
to the contrary. ----Recently, the EPA issued a fine against PFI Speed, a small
speed shop in Colorado, for selling just 37 Hondata S300s over a 2-yr span. The
fine was issued after co owner Leivestad complied with an EPA inquiry for
details about the co’s sales.

Without any other contact from the EPA, Leivestad was shocked to receive a
letter accusing the shop of selling illegal products. The letter included an $18,000
fine that, if not paid within 30 days, could increase to as much as $180,000. “I
was dumbfounded. I couldn’t even believe it. I am a speed shop & sell race
parts—I didn’t know that was wrong. I didn’t understand the basis of the EPA’s
claim, I didn’t go in front of any trial or talk to anybody from the EPA, & the threat
of ‘settle & pay within 30 days or else’ felt like a real shakedown intended to deny
my rights.” said Leivestad

To protect the motorsports industry against further EPA overreach, PRI is calling
on the racing industry & enthusiasts to unite & urge Congress to pass the
Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act. The bipartisan bill will clarify that
it is legal to convert street vehicles into dedicated race cars, & that businesses
can legally produce, market, & install racing products. “There are thousands of
legitimate motorsports businesses that are at risk of EPA overreach. The EPA is
putting these businesses—which are typically small, home grown, less
sophisticated shops—in situations where they have to take on the full might of
the federal government. The EPA is doing nothing to validate its enforcement
efforts, & these small businesses are left with little choice but to comply.”

The EPA, which is responsible for enforcing the Clean Air Act a 1970 law that
regulates motor vehicles on streets & Hwys throughout the US, has been fining
businesses such as PFI Speed for producing, selling, & installing race use-only
products. The products are often used on vehicles that began as street cars &
were subsequently converted into dedicated race cars that are trailered to & from
the track, & never driven on streets or Hwys again. The CAA only applies to
vehicles driven on streets & Hwys, & the EPA contends that it is not targeting
race-only vehicles. However, the EPA has pre-classified many motorsports
products as illegal & is issuing fines without investigating the circumstances. “The
RPM Act must be passed into law to provide the racing community with certainty
& confidence in the face of EPA threats.” Leivestad agreed: “I’ve been doing this
for 20-plus years, & it sounds like the EPA is trying to put us out of business. We
need to get behind the RPM Act & get it pushed through now, more than ever.”

-------T HE NAKED TRUTH--Naked woman driving a golf cart interrupted police
during 6-hr stand-of. It sounds like something straight out of an action-comedy
movie. A woman was arrested in Florida after she interrupted a police stand-off
by ploughing through the tense scenes on a golf cart - while naked. Jessica E
Smith, 28, now faces a charge for resisting an officer without violence after her
antics that disrupted the police, who say they were in the middle of a 6-hr armed
standoff with suspects near Tampa, when Smith made things even more difficult.
Police were first on the scene due to reports of someone shooting at others from
the roof of a home, according to WFLA. When the suspects fled the area,
officers chased after them. A gun was fired by one of the suspects towards
bystanders, but fortunately, no one was injured, - though, during their attempted
escape, the suspect allegedly shot himself in the leg. As all this was happening,
Smith drove into the crime scene in her golf cast, despite several Pinellas Cnty
Sheriff’s Office patrol cars marking the area, according to court documents. Despite being warned by officers to get out
of the cart, Smith allegedly ignored their demands & continued to drive toward the target’s home. Her “actions &
inability to follow directions put multiple deputies at risk for potentially getting shot at,” the affidavit read. Police were
eventually able to get Smith out of the golf cart & apprehend her with handcuffs. By Sinead Butler, Newsbreak

T_WEEKLY_NEWS2021 aspx . --- The Sturgis ‘Super-Spreader’
That Wasn’t. The Leftmedia’s hyped COVID fears of the
motorcycle rally proved unfounded.
As thousands of bikers converged in the Black Hills of SD for the
annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally during the 2 week of Aug, they
nd
were dubiously branded by the Leftmedia know-nothings as
dangerous COVID “super-spreaders.” The Washington Post
provided the typical hysteria with an articled titled, “Sturgis
Motorcycly Rally revs up, drawing though sands & heightening
delta super spreader fears.” But it wasn’t just the Leftmedia that
blasted SD for allowing the rally. Dr Fauci offered this politically
tainted prediction: “I’m very concerned … that we are going to see
another surge related to that rally. I mean, to me it’s
understandable that people want to do the kinds of things they
want to do. They want their freedom to do that. But there comes a
time when you’re dealing with a public health crisis that could involve you, your family, & everyone else that something
supersedes that need to do exactly what you want to do.” Fauci’s authoritarian fearmongering came through especially
strongly, likely because SD Rep Gov Noem has steadfastly refused to encroach upon her constituents’ constitutional
rights. Further demonstrating that Fauci’s concerns are tied more to politics than science was his silence over
Obama’s 60th birthday bash. Hundreds of guests turned up to celebrate at the former president’s estate on Martha’s
Vineyard, yet not a peep came from the doc over it being a potential super-spreader event. Now that the end of the
Sturgis rally is done — the accepted incubation period for the manifestation of COVID infections — has the event lived
up to the Leftmedia’s hype? As Hinderaker observes: “The U.S. as a whole averaged 276 new covid cases per
100,000 population over the last 7 days, while SD averaged only 156. SD has fewer new cases than all surrounding
states except Minnesota & Iowa, which have 5% & 4% fewer new cases per 100,000 than SD, respectively.” Did the
Leftmedia talking heads admit that their super-spreader concerns were much ado about nothing? As everyone already
knows, the answer is no. & there will be no follow-up mea culpa, because the issue isn’t really COVID at all. The real
issue is Americans being free to engage in their constitutionally protected right to assembly. That’s a freedom leftists
don’t believe Americans should be able to exercise without permission.--Thomas Gallatin Patriot Post

----THE DIGITAL DISCOVERY AREA IS
HOPPING THIS WEEK--This WW2 fire-
fighting trike is the strangest, coolest thing
we've seen. --Nile Bijoux During the early
1940s, pretty much every country that had
manufacturing capabilities was working hard
for their respective war efforts. Some were
building planes, guns & tanks while others
focused on the locals. That’s where this 1941
Kurogane Model 1 Fire Trikes comes in, a
three-wheeled firefighter used in Japan &
Malaysia. The story starts back in 1923, when
a massive earthquake demolished the city of
Yokohama, followed by tsunamis reaching as
high as 40’ & fires caused by overturned cooktops & ruptured gas mains, including a fire tornado. It was later called the
Great Kanto Earthquake &, after the dust settled, resulted in around 140,000 deaths. Afterwards, Yokohama & Toyko,
which was also battered by the quakes & fires, needed vehicles to help rebuild. Around the same time, Japan’s
government wanted to bolster its motorcycle industry, instead of relying on American, Italian & British imports as it did
previously. Tricycles were already popular in Japan as many could be used without a driving license (only required for
vehicles with a cylinder capacity above 750cc) & could easily access many areas, especially considering how the rail
tracks would have been damaged in the earthquake. It took a few years, but eventually, the Kurogane Fire Trike came
to be, designed to be a local response unit for fires. According to Motorworld, a Russian motorcycle museum that is
restoring the trike, it uses a transverse-mounted 1100cc V-twin engine of unknown origin & could well be the last one in
existence. Many were destroyed in the bombings of Nagasaki & Hiroshima. Apparently, this particular model fought
fires in Japan & Malaysia, which was where it was found. Interestingly, the instruments are all labelled in English,
which would likely have been a product of the move to Malaysia, as the country was colonized by Britain until 1957.
English would have then been spoken commonly, much more so than in Japan at the time. www.stuff.co.nz --

1.aspx --- NEW ZEALAND LOCKDOWN REPORT--Graeme Lowen’s personal view of
his first 2 days of the New Zealand wide Lockdown for 2021. Wed, Aug 18th 2021.
Lockdown No 2. A community case of the Covid was located in the Auckland area
only to find that the male had travelled to the Coromandel Coast as well before being confirmed that he had the highly
transmissible Delta Variant which has been wreaking havoc in Sydney (Australia). Although the borders had been
opened between NZ & Australia, they were closed about 2 weeks ago. The country was set into a 3-day lock down.
There was a bit of talk about a Level 4 lockdown during the day, but it was announced on the 6 o’clock news. Then all
the shoppers let loose. My experience was that I had been out in the van just before 6 & I had gone past the New
World & there were about 20 cars there. I went home, washed both windscreens & put the van away. Came inside &
asked Maree if she would like me to go & get a couple of loaves of bread & a bottle of milk? She thought that would be
a good idea &, armed with a few dollars I drove back up to the New World only to see the carpark totally FULL. I keep
on driving through & went back home. We did not need the bread & milk that desperately. Later in the evening I got
an e mail from a client out Ohai way & he said that he did not see me in the New World at 5 past 6. I told him my
version of events & he had been in there at 6 & by 10 past the place was over full of excited people.
I never thought to ask if they were all stocking up on toilet paper like last year. My day went along the
lines of this Day One of Lockdown No 2. I wasted some time sorting stuff on the computer until I got sick of it after a
couple of hours. I then spent some 3 hours sorting out my bench with all the scrap metal bit on it. It was only some 6
weeks ago that Michael had it all cleaned up. After Lunch I went back out & made up 3 different wooden boxes to
replace the worn out cardboard boxes holding spare bits like leather & rubber gloves that I have brought home from
America. I even found me another pair of knee pads from 2016! Graeme continued with his report for several hours
including how he painted the boxes, wanted to ride his bike, storm water drain complaints, home plumbing projects &
his vast array of event pins he’s collected in boxes & jars for 30 years…

Oh & a political comment: This Delta Variant has come in from Australia due to our opening of the borders & Kiwis
wanting to come home as soon as something untoward happens. They were supposed to get a test clearance before
leaving Australia but not all were honest about this. A group of a hundred tried to get back in without the required tests
& this may well be the result of it all. All those politicians & other people that had pushed for the borders to be
reopened, are now strangely silent about their efforts. None of them have put up their hand & said that they were partly
responsible for this out break.

Several hate slogans against bikers have appeared along the Schwarzwaldhochstraße
(B500) between Baden-Baden & Plättig. The messages are once again insulting the
dispute over motorcyclists, noise & frenzy. A topic that also affects the district of
Freudenstadt. Baden-Baden/Kniebis – It is death threats against motorcyclists that
capture the view along the Black Forest High Road, which is popular with bikers. "Lie down
in your coffin" is written according to the report of SWR Aktuell in yellow letters on the
road. And since last weekend, the message "Drecksau – Biker Trash" has been
emblazoned on the wall of a wooden hut. As the Offenburg police confirmed to the Black
Forest messenger, these & other smears appeared in the night. The trail of slogans begins
at the entrance to Baden-Baden & extends to the district of Freudenstadt. However, no
new messages have been added in recent days. The police are now investigating in all
directions & not only because of property damage, as it was first said. There is still no
trace of the suspects. The problem: The paint used is a mass product. "We are clearly
dependent on witness evidence," says the Offenburg police station. & the appeal also
goes to the biker scene itself. "It's only possible together," the police spokesman says to
the motorcycle community – with the hope of a peaceful coexistence between
motorcyclists & residents in the future.
If the perpetrators are found, they face a hefty penalty. According to the police, this ranges from a fine to 3
years in prison – depending on possible criminal records & other factors. How much the substantive statements can
influence the sentence, the police did not want to say anything yet. That is later a matter for the public prosecutor's
office. Paint smears have also appeared in the district of Freudenstadt, as the responsible police headquarters in
Pforzheim reports. "Verrecke" & "Kein Mitleid mit dem Pack" are emblazoned on the B294 between Seewald &
Freudenstadt. There, on July 19, a motorcyclist was killed in an accident. Whether there is a connection between the
accident & the embassies is unclear. More smeared places in the district are not known to the police headquarters
Pforzheim.Schwarzwaldhochstraße: Car & truck drivers also race, wishing someone an accident or even death is the
lowest level. That is not possible," says Helmut Klaißle, head of Kniebis. The place is not directly on the B500, but is
also repeatedly affected by speeders & noise. The head of the village distances himself from the hatred of
motorcyclists. "They are road users who are travelling too loudly & fast. This also includes truck & car drivers," he
clarifies. Some of them are members of the autoposer scene, who "heat up in the 50s zone at 130 kilometers per
hour". Klaißle always tries to appeal to the reason of the racers. "95% of road users drive decently. It's only a small part
that thinks they have to organize a race track here," But Klaißle's appeals to road users are not always taken into
account, as he himself knows: "Some people can no longer be reached with reason. Only punitive measures are
effective." & in his opinion, these should be violent & make themselves felt in the purse or on the driver's license of the
perpetrators.Link to the original contribution of the "Schwarzwälder Boten" from 21 Aug. 2021: https://www.schwarzwaelder-

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-57386704.amp ----- Germany to ship army beer home from Afghanista -- Germany
has begun to withdraw its forces from the country, Germany has announced it will fly more than 22,500 liters of beer
home from Afghanistan, as Nato forces prepare to withdraw. Commanders had recently banned soldiers from drinking
amid growing violence in Afghanistan ahead of the withdrawal Local forces were unable to sell the alcohol due to
religious & cultural differences in Afghanistan.

A defense ministry spokeswoman said that they had found a civilian contractor to repatriate the drinks. In April, US
President Biden announced that all its forces would withdraw from Afghanistan on 11 Sept 2021. Nato allies soon
announced they would follow suit. Since then there has been a surge in violence across the country. The government,
the US & Nato blame the Taliban, a hardline Islamist movement, who they say have so far failed to live up to
commitments to reduce violence - an allegation the group denies. 20 years in Afghanistan: Was it worth it? 'We have
won the war, America has lost' Der Spiegel first reported that German troops had a huge surplus of alcohol at their
bases in the country. German soldiers are normally allowed 2 cans of beer per day, or an equivalent measure of other
alcohol. More than 60,000 cans of beer & hundreds of bottles of wine & champagne are at Camp Marmal near Mazar-i-
Sharif in northern Afghanistan, the paper reported. Spokeswoman Routsi announced that the contractor will now fly
these back to Germany before the last German troops leave. Germany has more than 1,100 troops still in Afghanistan.
Some 59 of its soldiers have died in the country since the conflict began.

of the Gold Coast chapter of the Hells Angels M/C has been fined over an ugly pub brawl. Greg Pearce, 45, pleaded
guilty to affray at Brisbane Magistrates Court & was fined almost $3000 dollars over an ugly daylight fight at a Palm
Bch pub that left a man unconscious. CCTV released by police showed the brawl including footage of Pearce
repeatedly kicking & punching the 42-year-old victim before walking away. Police said the pair knew each other But
Pearce also copped a $700 fine for wearing a controversial nu on his jumper when he attended court. On the back of
the garment were the words "Angel" & "Brotherhood" with the nu 8173 – a nu associated with Hells Angels. Pearce had
the jumper custom made & checked by a lawyer to ensure it did not breach Queensland’s laws against wearing bikie
attire. The magistrate described the jumper as an inoffensive item, not usually associated with the notorious
motorcycle club & said it was not intimidating. But Pearce was still fined $700 for wearing it. While Pearce walked free,
he is facing possible prison time for breaching a suspended sentence & being caught with cocaine.

Once upon a time...a small boy named Basheer lived in a tiny Moroccan village. All his classmates hated him for his
stupidity...especially his teacher who was always yelling at him "you are driving me crazy
Basheer" One day his mother went to check out how he is doing at school and the teacher
told her honestly that her son is simply a disaster, getting very low marks in exams and never
had she seen such a dumb boy in her whole career. The mother could not accept such a
feedback and she took her son out from that school. She even shifted to another city. 25
years later, that same teacher had a cardiac disorder and she was advised to undergo an
open heart surgery. It was a complex surgery which only one surgeon could perform. Left with
no other choice, she travelled to consult the surgeon and the surgery was successful. When
she opened her eyes, she saw a handsome doctor smiling at her. She wanted to thank him
but being under the effect of anesthesia, she could not talk. he doctor too was staring at her
face which had started turning ominously blue. She was raising her hand trying to tell him
something but in vain and eventually died. The doctor was shocked and was trying to
understand what just happened, till he turned back and saw our friend Basheer working as a
sweeper in that hospital, who had unplugged the ventilator to connect his vacuum cleaner. If
you were thinking that Basheer became a doctor, it is because you have been watching too
many movies, TV series or have read too many motivational messages on social media.
Basheer is Basheer.
