SPONSORSHIP PROOF OF PERFORMANCE

18th ANNUAL FIGHT FOR AIR CLIMB VIRTUAL FIGHT FOR AIR CLIMB

Principal Park | Des Moines, IA Climb Your Way
Saturday, May 15th, 2021 May 2021

To Our Trusted Community Partners –

On behalf of the American Lung Association in Iowa and the Local Leadership Board, I would like to
express our sincere appreciation for your support of the American Lung Association’s 2021 Fight For Air
Climb –Des Moines presented by EMC Insurance Companies.

As the nation’s leading organization fighting for healthy lungs and healthy air the American Lung
Association has been saving lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease for more than
100 years. Our mission is to save lives and our vision is a world free of lung disease. With your help we
are able to fund research, provide patient resources and education programs, and advocate for critical
public health policy.

In 2020 and 2021 the spread of COVID-19 across the globe and in our communities reinforced the critical
nature of our mission. The work of the American Lung Association has never been more important.
This year we rose to the challenge of having a safe, in person event by moving the Fight For Air Climb
outdoors to Principal Park. We implemented our Climb Safe Commitment which included spatial
distancing, health screenings, sanitation protocols and face masks—which ensured that our climbers
could participate in our climb safely. We also created a robust virtual participant option with our Climb
Your Way program.

With your help, the 2021 Fight For Air Climb raised over $176,000 to support lung health! Your support
and involvement provide the American Lung Association with the opportunity provide Iowans who are
impacted by lung disease with the resources, fund critical research, and advocate on behalf of our
communities.

Thank you once again for your continued support of the life saving work of the American Lung Association
and the 2021 Fight For Air Climb.

Arthur Brown, DBA, MPH
Chair, Local Leadership Board of Iowa

FROM OUR CLIMBERS…

“It was a great event, well organized and we loved that it was outside!”

“Great event - as always. Loved being at Principal Park!!”

“I just wanted to tell you that of the 5 (in person) climbs I've done, this has been
my favorite. Being outside made it easier to breathe, parking was easier, the
line up wasn't as congested, and the fun of having the baseball stadium was
cool all on its own.”

“This was such a GREAT event – well organized and very fun. The volunteers
were awesome!!!”

“We had a GREAT time at the Climb this weekend.”

“This was an amazingly well organized and coordinated event! Thank you so
much!”

“This was a fantastic location venue! Thanks for all your work in making it
happen!”

“Thank you for all you do and for offering this again! Looking forward to next
year.”

MOVING FORWARD

2021 marked the 18th Anniversary of the Fight For Air Climb in Des
Moines. Because of partners like you, we have raised $3,460,815
over the past 18 years.

We couldn’t do this work without you.

We look forward to coming together again in 2022 for the 19th
Annual Fight For Air Climb in Downtown Des Moines, and to
continuing our partnership to in improve health and prevent lung
disease. We can’t wait to see you on the stairs again next
Spring!

ASTHMA: Every day, children and adults with chronic asthma try to

minimize and avoid the things that trigger an attack. Although there is no
cure, asthma can be managed, which is where we come in.

The American Lung Association is a recognized authority for asthma health
professionals, school personnel and families who are impacted by the

disease. And so, every day, 365 days a year, thousands of people across
the country turn to us for support and free resources to manage asthma at

home, work and at school. To learn more about the Lung Association’s
resources on Asthma go to Lung.org/Asthma.

LUNG CANCER: Last year, our annual State of Lung Cancer

Report showed that lung cancer survival rates are improving. However, the
report also showed that lung cancer remains the country’s #1 cancer
killer. Curing lung cancer will not be a single event, but a continuous
progression of meaningful breakthroughs over time. Those breakthroughs
are only possible because of the sustained and reliable support from Fight
For Air Climb participants like you. To learn more about the Lung
Association’s efforts on Lung Cancer, go to Lung.org/LungCancer.

OUR WORK IN ACTION

COVID-19 is not the first, and it will not be the last respiratory

pandemic that we will face. That’s why we created the COVID-19 Action
Initiative and committed $25 million to end COVID-19 and protect against

future pandemics. By participating in the Fight For Air Climb, you are
helping to PREVENT future outbreaks by investing in respiratory virus
research. PROVIDE free lung health education and masks to those in

need. PROTECT public health by advocating for COVID-19 and flu
vaccines in underserved communities of color. To learn more about our

research and work around COVID-19, go to Lung.org/COVID19

VAPING & TOBACCO: For decades we have been helping people

quit tobacco for good. Now we’ve leveraged that experience and expertise
to address the alarming youth vaping epidemic through our nationwide
Vape-Free Schools Initiative. One in four teens has vaped, and the number
of middle and high school students using e-cigarettes increased to 5.4
million in 2019. Vaping can permanently damage lungs. When you
participate in the Fight For Air Climb you support our work to end the youth
vaping epidemic. To learn more about the Lung Association’s work around
the Vaping epidemic go to Lung.org/Quit-Smoking
