Q1 SALES WRAP
Message from the General Manager
Welcome to this edition of the Boom Times. Well, March 31 marks the halfway point of the 2016 financial year, where does the
time go? Year to date has been a challenge for our new machine sales, but the team has done a terrific job in in fighting for every
order in a very competitive market, and have set a good platform for the business to gain momentum as we head into the second
half of the year. Our service teams continue to deliver pleasing results both in our workshops and in the field and our Parts team
who have seen some changes this year also continue to deliver pleasing results.
March is also the month that Conexpo is held in Las Vegas. Conexpo is the largest construction equipment expo in the world this
year. It is held every three years and is a favourite show for many Australian customers. This year there was upwards of fifty
Australian customers who visited the JLG stand and they saw numerous new and exciting innovations displayed by JLG through-
out the week. These included a concept machine showing 'Automatic Chassis Levelling' a real game changer in our industry and is
hoped we will have a prototype unit available to show in the next three years. We also released a new H800AJ 'Hybrid" unit,
which will go into production in the new year, as well as demonstrations on JLG's new ‘Virtual Reality’ Boomlift Training. This was
a real hit with customers as they actually got to get into a basket and operate the Boomlift through an obstacle course using
virtual reality technology. There was lots of other new innovations and machines that were launched at Conexpo, so please go
onto our website, jlg.com hit the Conexpo icon and you can watch a series of videos showing everything that happened during the
show.
Locally, our annual Hire and Rental show – ‘HIRE 17’ is being held in May and we will also being showing some new and exciting
developments in the industry. This year’s show is an exciting one for JLG with the release of a number of new machines including
the 1500AJP – the world’s tallest articulating boom lift. We will also be launching our new 1932R scissor, Toucan T10E ‘L’ and our
4045R, 12 mtr narrow electric scissor. Also at on our stand, we will be showcasing our new ‘Virtual Reality’ operator training
technology which I mentioned earlier, which I’m sure will be just as big a hit here as it was at Conexpo.
So I hope you enjoy this edition of not only some of the new innovations I mentioned, but what your fellow work mates are doing
around the branches.

Darwin Ship Lift
The Darwin ship lift and common user facility will be designed to meet the needs of the general maritime sector and the current
and long-term needs of the Department of Defence and the Australian Border Force, while supporting local jobs and economic
growth in the Territory.
The Darwin facility will enable maintenance and servicing of Defence and Border Force vessels, as well as commercial and private
vessels including from the oil and gas, and marine industries.
On 15 August 2016, the Northern Territory (NT) Government announced that Pearl Marine Engineering had been selected as the
preferred proponent to enter a negotiation phase for the Darwin Ship Lift and Marine Industries (SLAMI) Project.
The SLAMI Project will provide a ship lift and common user facility which will cater for wet and dry dock ship maintenance and will
support Darwin’s position as a growing logistics and marine services hub.
Pearl Marine Engineering proposes to deliver the SLAMI Project through a wholly owned subsidiary of the Paspaley Group,
Northern Ship Support Pty Ltd.
The SLAMI Project will be underpinned by a statutory access and pricing access regime that will ensure a truly open access,
common user facility model is achieved. The statutory regime will be regulated by the Utilities Commissioner.
Over the coming months, due diligence studies around the facility design and bathymetric requirements will occur in parallel with
commercial negotiations with Pearl Marine Engineering.
The NT Government intends to enter final binding project agreements in 2017 with construction to commence shortly thereafter.
On behalf of JLG Industries I would like to congratulate Ben and Jess Foden on the long awaited arrival of Evelyn Elizabeth Foden.

SALES
With a strong 1st quarter it was expected this would continue on into the 2nd Quarter. Daniel and Tracey have worked well to ensure
this did happen. With Daniel knocking on doors and working the phones he achieved some great deals sold to Pacific Hire, In 2 Access,
All Star and Tutt Bryant. Whilst at times there has been a mountain of work to get done, a measured coffee and great teamwork within
the whole branch is getting it done.
SERVICE
The service department have continued their strong start to the year. Smashing each months’ budget to set up the business for the
remainder of the year. Mick and Rebecca have had little time to breath with constant work keeping staff busy. An additional Van is
being added to the field team with no end in sight to the growth this year. The workshop is no different with 4 staff currently working
at Coates reducing the workshop depth of knowledge. Additional staff have been put on and planning in place to to make things run a

location Coates were extremely pleased with our quick response to such a remote location.
PARTS
Like the entire branch parts are not being left behind and are smashing last year. Great work by David in the field and
the organisation by Lawrie has helped achieve these numbers. Locally mine spec has become the norm on some sites
and we are selling many items that customers could probably source themselves. Lawrie is also smashing the
stocktake starting the second batch of van 6 monthly stocktakes.
It was also a busy period for several families with David and Emma Johnston welcoming William into

hospital. Both Paul and Amelia are now in a great routine of looking after Imogen.

With our recent office renovations complete the Queensland team are now all located within the same open plan office space.
Operationally this is a huge advantage in that sales, service & field service now have a better understanding of each department and
communication between our teams is constant. Queensland has experienced a marked increase in new machine sales enquiries from
December '16 onwards. Majority of these have been for the retail market with the construction and mining sector having had a
marginal increase in calls received. We believe these enquiries are in anticipation of new projects that are expected to commence late
in 2017.
With Q3 upon us we have a big task ahead in meeting our end of year targets however, we are confident in closing off the year on a
high. The trick for us now is converting these enquiries into sales.
Our service team have busy throughout the last quarter with major inspections, fire trucks pre deliveries and general maintenance. We
expect to be ahead of our YTD budget by the end of March. None of this would have been possible without the hard work and
dedication of the great Queensland team we have & a big thank you goes out to everyone !
Late March Queensland experienced Cyclone Debbie which slowly swept across
the North Qld coast. This category 4 storm has brought up to 500mm of rain &
flooding in some coastal areas whilst providing much needed drought relief to
the central Qld farming areas. Unfortunately, with such storms comes the
huge costs of destruction which will only be calculated in the coming weeks.
Between two major hire companies they have delivered between 400-450
generators into the effected region with some equipment coming as far afield
as South Australia.
Some interesting statistics released by the SES which highlighted
some of the equipment and basic essentials made available in
preparation of the recovery effort following Cyclone Debbie:
750,000,000.00 ltrs of bottled water
363,000,000ltrs of drinking water transported in tankers.

CHANGES TO PPE POLICY
There have been recent changes to our Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Policy in relation to the use of Fall Arrest Equipment when
operating an Elevated Work Platform (EWP).
It is an internal requirement that all persons in the platform of a EWP must wear fall protection equipment with a lanyard attached to
an authorised lanyard anchorage point while operating a EWP elevated. This applies to Scissor and Vertical Lifts operated in an elevated
position, a harness is not required when either of these categories is operated in a stowed position.
The requirements for Boom type EWP remains unchanged with a harness to be worn and attached to an authorised anchorage point at
all times during operation. We are currently reviewing the options for fall restraint harnesses in order to meet our internal
requirements. This will be completed in the coming days.
Please see below the type of harness required by product category, confirmation of harness requirements can be found in the
operator’s manual.
• Boom Lifts – Fall Arrest Harness
• Scissor Lifts – Fall Arrest Harness
• Vertical Lifts – Fall Restraint Harness (Liftpod, AM, MSP & MVL)
These changes have been implemented based on a risk assessment and internal practices in place globally within JLG. Please contact
Matt Farrington on 0400 376 985 or via mrfarrington@jlg.com if you have any questions.

TIPS TO STAY SAFE AT WORK
Workplace injuries are preventable. Here are a few tips to help you stay safe at work.
1. Complete a Take 5 for each new task, identify and manage risks.
2. Ask your supervisor to watch and check that you are doing the job the right way.
3. Speak up and let supervisors know if you think a task is too dangerous or difficult for
you.
4. Ask questions and check with supervisors and co-workers when you aren't sure or
can't remember how to do a job safely.
5. Learn what to do and where to get help in an emergency.
6. Always follow company policies and procedures.
7. Always wear any personal protective equipment provided by your employer.
8. Report all injuries, incidents and near misses.
9. Look out for and report hazards, if you see something say something.
10. Keep an eye on your co-workers, especially if they are new to the workplace.
11. Feeling tired and or fatigue can lead to dangerous mistakes.
12. Discuss any safety concerns with your manager or supervisor.
SIMPLE SAFETY TIPS FOR FORKLIFT OPERATORS
Every year, an alarming number of forklift operators are involved in workplace accidents.
According to Worksafe Victoria (Forklift Safety - Reducing the Risk), between January 1985 and January 2003 there were 48 deaths in Victoria
associated with forklifts. These statistics show that collisions with pedestrians and loads falling onto pedestrians were the main contributor and
accounted for 56% of the fatalities. It is recommended that forklifts are segregated from pedestrians by having exclusion zones where forklifts
cannot enter areas where there are pedestrians.
10 SIMPLE SAFETY TIPS FOR FORKLIFT OPERATORS
1. Complete a Take 5 before each new task, assess the risks and hazards
2. Ensure the daily pre start and pre operations checks are completed
3. Never exceed the manufacturer’s maximum lift capacity
4. Familiarisation with the equipment, refer operators manual to familiarise.
5. Seatbelts should be worn correctly if available
6. Obey all site safety signs such as speed limit and stop signs
7. Use caution and avoid turning when negotiating grades, ramps and inclines
8. Slow down and sound your horn as you approach an intersection or corner
9. When getting off a forklift ensure the parking brake is set, the forks are
lowered and controls are neutralised.
10. Forklifts are designed to lift and move loads, not people.

Australia and New Zealand begins the journey in Building a Culture
of Continuous Improvement
Over the past few months extensive planning has been going on behind the scenes
to ramp up our efforts in the area of formal Continuous Improvement (CI) and a
comprehensive implementation plan for both office and blue collar areas of our
business.
This push towards cultivating our environment to focus on continuous improvement
is necessary to ensure our continued success. CI focuses on process improvement.
These processes produce innovative products or deliver premium service for our
customer. CI focuses us on establishing a partnership with our customers and
learning what they want/don’t want.
In the gaps, where we are not meeting expectations, lies an
opportunity to apply CI tools and methods. Our focus is on team work
to solve problems, design new and enhance existing products and
align our efforts along the value stream. In doing so, we provide a
better experience for our customers, both internal and external.
These efforts require every team member, every day to
recognize their role in the CI process and their work’s
value in meeting JLG’s targets.
To kick start our journey we welcomed,
Eric Mellott and Melissa Lutz from the
Access Global Quality and Continuous
Improvement Education Section to
Sydney. With their assistance, we
were able to train Leaders from
throughout the region in a 3 day course,
Continuous Improvement Fundamentals.
This class introduced the philosophies, methods
and tools that are used in CI throughout Oshkosh.
Myths were dispelled that CI was solely a function or set of
methods for the shop floor; over 60% of CI activity at JLG is
based on office processes.
In addition, 7 Leaders were identified and went through the
Continuous Improvement Event Facilitator Course. This course is the
first step in the certification process for CI Facilitators.
The next course, Introduction to Continuous Improvement, a one day course, explains
the basics and is a necessary foundation course for all team members. Sydney, Brisbane,
Melbourne and Perth locations had team members (office staff at some locales too!)
received this initial training. The training will continue as our local team was provided
with the tools to continue the trainings. This self-sufficiency will ensure that all team
members in our region will receive this training in the upcoming months and that it will
be added to our onboarding process.
At Port Macquarie, our engineering, training and manufacturing leaders were given one day training on the 8D Problem Solving
Method. Two local trainers were identified and a kit given in order for this training to be readily available in our area.
Also during this time, a Continuous Improvement Event was held to develop an implementation plan for CI throughout our region. A
Continuous Improvement Council was also set up for the region. Wayne Downes was identified as the CI Council lead. This CI Council
will align us with other regions in North America and EAME that have CI Councils that help Access align CI activities and efforts around
the globe.
As you can see, it’s been a busy few weeks for us. But…it doesn’t stop here. Look for updates as to when you’ll receive the initial CI
training, if you haven’t already. Many of you may be invited to be a part of some type of continuous improvement activity. As a team
we’ll be going through the initial information collected during the waste walks that were performed and report back to you about those
opportunities. We hope that you are as excited as we are to begin our journey and make positive change happen!
