“Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” Happy Easter!, this is not only a great greeting but a beautiful reminder of our reality as people of God. Our happiness comes from the reminder of who God is, what he has done for us, and who we are able to be due to his grace and mercy. The paths of life have quite a way to teach us, shape us, and attempt to determine who we are and what we should be about. At times the experience of pain and suffering attempt to determine our lives as misery. At times the experience of failure and error attempts to determine our lives as worthless. Jesus' passion, death and resurrection is the beautiful expression of love that reminds us that we are greater than our life experiences because we are created in the image and likeness of God. Yes, it is true that the human heart is quite capable of choosing paths that bring it to misery and to a deep sense of worthlessness. It is also true that God continues to reach out to us to rescue us from the power of darkness and death so we can continue to journey in the light of life. Scriptures remind us that the disciples truly expressed the lowliness of humanity: ran, betrayed, negated, rejected, and greed. However, the scriptures also depict very clearly the desire of God that all hearts might be united to him. His mercy and compassion recognize the frailty of the human heart to give it the necessary grace to be restored to its original essence, the creation he had made. We are told that the disciples were behind closed doors in fear; experiences of the human heart in times of trouble. We are also told that Jesus came to meet them where they were to set their hearts in peace, give them what they needed and to send them off into mission. It is interesting that the disciples were motionless, almost as if tied by their failed life experiences, and Jesus sets them free, “Peace be with you” and restores their essence of life “as the father has sent me so I send you” messengers of the good news of God. As you celebrate Easter, remember that it is not so much as to what you do in life, but how much you allow God to do for you and through you. Happy Easter. Fr. Como el Padre me ha enviado, así también los envío yo”. ¡Felices Pascuas!, este no es solo un gran saludo sino un hermoso recordatorio de nuestra realidad como pueblo de Dios. Nuestra felicidad proviene del recuerdo de quién es Dios, lo que ha hecho por nosotros y quiénes somos capaces de ser gracias a su gracia y misericordia. Los caminos de la vida tienen una gran manera de enseñarnos, moldearnos e intentar determinar quiénes somos y qué deberíamos ser. A veces la experiencia del dolor y del sufrimiento intenta determinar nuestra vida como miseria. A veces, la experiencia del fracaso y del error intenta determinar que nuestra vida no vale nada. La pasión, muerte y resurrección de Jesús es la hermosa expresión de amor que nos recuerda que somos más grandes que nuestras experiencias de vida porque somos creados a imagen y semejanza de Dios. Sí, es cierto que el corazón humano es muy capaz de elegir caminos que lo lleven a la miseria ya un profundo sentimiento de inutilidad. También es cierto que Dios sigue tendiéndose la mano para rescatarnos del poder de las tinieblas y de la muerte para que podamos seguir caminando a la luz de la vida. Las Escrituras nos recuerdan que los discípulos expresaron verdaderamente la bajeza de la humanidad: corrieron, traicionaron, negaron, rechazaron y codiciaron. Sin embargo, las Escrituras también describen muy claramente el deseo de Dios de que todos los corazones se unan a él. Su misericordia y compasión reconocen la fragilidad del corazón humano para darle la gracia necesaria para ser restaurado a su esencia original, la creación que él había hecho. Se nos dice que los discípulos estaban detrás de puertas cerradas por miedo; experiencias del corazón humano en tiempos de angustia. También se nos dice que Jesús vino a su encuentro donde estaban para poner sus corazones en paz, darles lo que necesitaban y enviarlos a la misión. Es interesante que los discípulos estaban inmóviles, casi como atados por sus experiencias de vida fallidas, y Jesús los libera, “la paz sea con ustedes” y les devuelve la esencia de la vida “como me envió el padre, así los envío yo” mensajeros de las buenas nuevas de Dios. Al celebrar la Pascua, recuerda que no se trata tanto de lo que haces en la vida, sino de cuánto permites que Dios haga por ti y a través de ti. Felices Pascuas. P. Jose Morales, Parroco
