P ra i s e t h e L ord , who heals the brokenhearted. T he great majority of us at one point in our lives have experienced a broken heart. A broken heart can be the result of a multitude of experiences in life, especially those that seem to be out of our control. Situations like the disappointments in a relationship, arguments, betrayals, loss of employment, lack of direction or motivation in life, illness, loss of a loved one and catastrophes, to name a few, can be the cause of our broken hearts. It is also important to note that when our hearts are broken our faith is usually questioned and in many cases we question the presence of God. In the scripture readings that we heard proclaimed this weekend we hear how Job seems to enumerate a series of hopeless situations. Jb 7:1-7 In the gospel, St. Mark also identifies all those that are brokenhearted that are looking for hope, for a solution in their lives. (Mk 1:29-39) At times it may seem that the scriptures are summarizing our lives. Nonetheless, in those same scriptures we also find hope for our journey. In the gospel acclamation we read, “Christ took away our infirmities and bore our diseases.” (Mk 8:17) and to the psalm we responded, “Praise the Lord, who heals the brokenhearted.” (Ps 147:1-6). It is beautiful to note that in the same word of God we identify with the brokenness of humanity and we also identify the God that is close at hand. Therefore, whenever we experience difficulties in life it is important to acknowledge them, to reflect on them and specifically to pray about them. It is in prayer that we encounter the God who not only understands what we are going through, but gives us the wisdom and strength to take the necessary steps to peace and tranquility. May the God of all goodness, always make himself present in the good and bad times on the journey and may he show us the way to accompany and assist all those in need around us. Fr. Jose M., Pastor A l a b e m o s a l S e ñ or, que sana los corazones quebrantados L a gran mayoría de nosotros en algún momento de nuestras vidas hemos experimentado un corazón quebrantado. Un corazón quebrantado puede ser el resultado de multitud de experiencias en la vida, especialmente aquellas que parecen estar fuera de nuestro control. Situaciones como las decepciones en una relación, las discusiones, las traiciones, la pérdida del empleo, la falta de rumbo o motivación en la vida, la enfermedad, la pérdida de un ser querido y las catástrofes, por nombrar algunas, pueden ser la causa de nuestros corazones quebrantados. También es importante señalar que cuando nuestro corazón está quebrantado nuestra fe suele ser cuestionada y en muchos casos cuestionamos la presencia de Dios. En las lecturas de las Escrituras que escuchamos proclamar este fin de semana escuchamos cómo Job parece enumerar una serie de situaciones desesperantes. Jb 7,1-7 En el evangelio, San Marcos también identifica a todos aquellos que tienen el corazón quebrantado y buscan esperanza, una solución para sus vidas. (Marcos 1:29-39) A veces puede parecer que las Escrituras están resumiendo nuestras vidas. Sin embargo, en esas mismas escrituras también encontramos esperanza para nuestro caminar. En la aclamación del evangelio escuchamos: "Cristo hizo suyas nuestras debilidades y cargó con nuestros dolores." (Mc 8,17) y al salmo respondimos: “Alabado sea el Señor, que sana a los quebrantados de corazón”. (Salmo 147:1-6). Es hermoso notar que en la misma palabra de Dios nos identificamos con la fragilidad de la humanidad y también identificamos al Dios que está cerca. Por lo tanto, siempre que experimentemos dificultades en la vida es importante reconocerlas, reflexionar sobre ellas y específicamente orar por ellas. Es en la oración que encontramos al Dios que no sólo comprende lo que estamos pasando, sino que nos da la sabiduría y la fuerza para dar los pasos necesarios hacia la paz y la tranquilidad. Que el Dios de toda bondad, se haga siempre presente en momentos buenos y difíciles de la vida y nos muestre el camino para acompañar y asistir a todos los necesitados a nuestro lado. P. José M.
