Frequently Asked Questions

? What is Title I?
A Title I is a law which makes schools that
have significant economic disadvantages
eligible to receive more money.

? How do I know if my child is Title I?
A Since JJC is a schoolwide Title I school,
every child, K-5th, is a Title I child. If you
would like to know if your child is in an
intervention group, please contact Mrs.
Dailey.

? What can I do to help my child?
A The number one thing our Reading
Specialist recommends is a shared reading
time with your child. A few minutes a day
makes a huge difference!

? Why do I have to fill out so much
paperwork?

A Title I is governed by a strict set of laws
which require the school to document
everything we do. If you do not fill out all
the paperwork, we could lose some of our
funding.

? Why does my child have to take so many
tests?

A We have worked hard to reduce the
amount of testing we do at JJC. Please
ask us which tests your child will take this
year!

activities for families throughout the year. Here
are some past examples:

Annual Spaghetti Dinner

Several schools will come
together for a free

spaghetti dinner, free
books, and a chance to take advantage of
community resources.

Local Book Fair

JJC Title I usually hosts a Scholastic book fair in
the spring. If funding is available, we will
provide free books for each child!

Family Activities

Here at JJC, we will have an
activity on the third Tuesday of most months.

We are focusing this year on our goal of
increased achievement scores by 12% in
Reading and Math. Please partner with us as we
reach for the stars! Whatever we do together,
we always provide food, fun, and learning!

Title I Staff

 Reading Specialist
The Title I Reading Specialist works with small
groups of students and collaborates with teachers
in the whole class setting. She also collects and
analyzes data from our various assessments to
better plan schoolwide instruction and
intervention. Mrs. Sara Dailey is our Reading
specialist for the 2016-2017 school year.

 Academic Coach
. An Academic Coach works with teachers to plan
and implement effective lessons across the
curriculum. She also works with the teachers to
help them collect, organize, and analyze the data
from our various assessments. Melanie Meck will
be our Academic Coach.

 Counselors
Our counselor meets with students who are
struggling with behavioral, emotional, or social
problems. She also keeps in close contact with the
parents. Beth Jacobson will be our Counselor.

 Professional Service Personnel
Also, classroom helpers, called PSP’s, are
working several days within the classes. The
PSP’s are retired teachers who come back to help
students who need extra attention.

Title I & Funding
 Title I is short for Title I, Part A of the
Elementary and Secondary Education Act
of 1965, which was Reauthorized by the
No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
 Our school is a “schoolwide” Title I
school. Schoolwide=every child.
o Schools with 40% or more of
children on free or reduced lunch
can qualify for Title I services.

 As a parent, you have certain rights
involving your child’s education. Please
look at the material provided. Knowing
your rights will help you help your child!

If you have more questions, please contact
me at school!
