FamilyFunZone TheFamilyFunZonehasanewlocationthisyear.Itwillalsobelocatedatthe southeasterncornerof16Mile&Gratiot,butintheparkinglotonthenorthand eastsidesofthebuilding,along16Mile.TheFamilyFunZoneishometothe KidsZone,communityservicegroups,foodvendors,andfreelive entertainmentonCruiseDay.ItisperfectadditiontotheCruiseandoffers somethingforeveryone!
2023GrandMarshals-Rock4Tots FromLefttoRight:HowieHurula,JimmyKlapp,MargieAnders,Screamin’ScottRandall, “Loco”Joe Evangelista,andJoeMagolan (seenextpage) Rock4TotswasstartedbyMargieAndersbasedonherchildhoodexperiencewiththeGoodfellows bringingChristmasgiftstotheirdoor.Asachild,shehadnoideathatSantabroughttoystoallchildren, andthatheonlyselectedcertainchildren.Growingup,hergrandmotherandmotheralwayscrocheted dressesforthedollsthatSantaprovidedtootherchildreninneedthroughtheGoodfellows. Yearslater,shewouldgetbacktogetherasJimmyKlapp,whoatthattimewastheownerofThe DawghouseonGroesbeck.Jimmywantedtohostatoydriveathisbartocollecttoysforthe Goodfellows,whileMargiehadanideatobringthebringthemusicindustrytogethertohelpthe childreninthecommunity,liketheendofthemovie“It’saWonderfulLife”whenGeorgeBaileycame home.ThetwoofthemreachedouttoScreamin’Scottandtogether,thefirstRock-4-Totseventwas puttogetherintwoweekstime.
2023GrandMarshals-Rock4Tots Theeventwassuchahit,thatpeopleinthecommunityjustwantedtohelp,especiallyLocoJoe,who wasaperformerforthe1stannual,whojumpedonboardandelevatedourevent.Fromtherewe formedacommitteeandformalizedtheeventandworkedwithBobTurner,theClintonTownship GoodfellowsPresidentatthattime,toensuretheproceedswouldbenefitthechildrenofClinton Township.Overtheyears,someofourvolunteersandcommitteememberswouldvisitthewarehouse andhelppackagethetoys.Overtheyears,theeventhasmovedaroundhereandtherebasedon Jimmy'sownershipofthebars,buteventuallylandedatFreddy's,whichsofarhasbeentheperfectfit. Rock-4-Totscollectsnewunwrappedtoys,giftcards,andaccepts cashdonations.Throughouttheeventthereare50/50raffles, andanarrayofraffleitemstochoosefromincludingaR4T exclusiverockboxfilledwithswagfromtheR4Tperformers. Localmusiciansentertaingenerousdonorswith20-minutesets throughouttheevent,whichalsoincludesaholidayjingle. Thisyear’sshirtfeaturesline-artdrawnbyEliotErlandson, withoursponsorslistedontheback.Theshirtscomein twouniquecolors-CarolinaBlueorElectricGreen. 20thAnniversaryCruiseEvent Thisyear,weareproudtobecelebratingour20thyearofcruisingGratiotAvenue.Thisevent gotstartedwithasmallcommitteeandthesupportofafewbusinessessuchasDorianFord, MoranChevrolet,andtheAlibiInn,alongwiththesupportofTownshipSupervisorBob Cannon.TheClintonTownshipGratiotCruisehasalwayshadapriorityofpeople’sloveof classiccarsandhotrods,buttherehasalwaysbeenafamily-friendlycomponentandto ensurethatGratiotAvenueshinesonCruiseday.Here’stoanother20yearsofcruising GratiotAvenue!
